A Very Intriguing Afternoon
It's a very intriguing afternoon of footer today, with two Champions League matches and a relegation dogfight in the Premier League. Of course, I'll be focused on the match at Turf Moor where 19th place Burnley host 17th place Everton. A point is the ideal result for Leeds fans, of course, which would move Burnley up to 18th ahead of Watford but keep them mired in the relegation zone and would keep Everton four points behind my beloved Leeds on 26 points.
Alongside that one, Chelsea host Real Madrid and Villareal host Bayern in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals. I'll be helping Kate out with some car repair so I might be a bit in and out, but I hope you'll join me if you have time.

Good Afternoon, Bob. Thanks for getting us started. Young Irishman, Nathan Collins , signed this past Summer from the Potters, put Burnley in the lead, then half a dozen minutes later , Rich Arlison tied it up from the spot
Leeds eight points clearer of the drop zone as they were before kickoff. Burnley move ahead of the Hornets on goal difference. Leeds eight points clear of those two teams and the Toffees now four points clear
Max Coronet down for the count as a rocket of a shot from Anthony Flash Gordon nearly knocked him out for the count
Hey Boys
Done with tutoring for the day.
Still not convinced what is the best result
He's up and I thought the shot hit in there tummy , but I think it was more the meat and potatoes area with no gravy
No reason why this match couldn't be on the telly
Good Afternoon, Dave . I don't know either. Glad you're finished for the day
They are off at the Bridge
Who meets who in the semis?
Coming in to this match, the Toffees had a win and two draws one the road. The rest defeats. Won at the Amex on August 28th, Desmond at ER in September, and new 1-1 at SB ob December 16th. I once owned a lemon and it traveled better than that.
Dangerous cross by Chelsea there
Citeh or Athleti vs Chelsea or Real
Bayern or Villareal vs probably Liverpool
Real were second best vs PSG except for about 20 of the 180....they scored three in that time!
Could be a rematch of last season's CL Final or a Madrid Derby, possibly
That was a wild second half. Benzema defeated Mbappe 3-2 on agg. PSG blew it and I think Mbappe is a free agent at the end of the season
Will England have three of the four semi-finalists?
Knock out the Spanish whenever possible
I'd like to see Bayern and the English lot in the semis.....Bayern to win!!
I would normally like an English team to win!
I always rooted for Pool, Forest and Villa back in the day
I just don't want any Treble, Quadruple or back to back from these three
Thanks for the semi line up
Could it be CIty Liverpool Triple header?
I think there's a very good chance of three English clubs in the semis and Bayern surely the favorites in their tie. Not sure who to root for if it's a repeat of last season's CL final. I hate both teams . I think you do too.
Glad to help. Could very well be Citeh vs Pool triple header. prep this weekend , Cup semi next weekend, then CL Final around Memorial Day Weekend. I hate both those clubs too., I like Bayern and their manager. I wanted him to come to United
If Everton win....Leeds and Everton would have breathing space
If Burnley win....Everton and Leeds would be closer than wanted
Everton want another pen
It was touched but it didn't cause him to go down...hate the crap
The announcer said Lamps would love to take a 1-2 halftime lead to the dressing room. He's jumping to conclusions and the announcer needs got realize the Toffees last won away in August
"there is contact"
Hate that crap
Real hit the bar...should have done better!
OH! Vinicious Junior misses a Real sitter. Put through then then turned a Chelsea player then with just Mnedy to beat had a shot clip the top of the bar.
Going to the screen... that means a pen....almost all of the time
Penalty it is
PENALTY TOFFEES . LUFC ACADEMY FOULS THE YOUN G UKRAINIAN
Everton have a pen...up comes Richarlison.....1-2
GOAL! RICH ARLISON WITH A PAIR OF PENALTIES TO GIVE THE TOFFEES A 1-2 LEAD
Both penalties were scored in identical ways.
Earlier Bob said he wanted a draw or Burnley win but then said bugger when they took the lead
To0ffees now half a dozen points clear of the Hornets. Burnley seven points from safety
Militao booked for fouling Kai from behind . Should he have been sent off? A Real break for the Spanish team
There's a case top be made for any result. Hard to see Burnley getting 35 points if they lose tonight
Nice save by Courtois off the free kick on his return to SB
A trio of stoppage time minutes at Turf Moor
Villareal takes a shock lead vs Bayern
Their run in might be easier but make it harder by them losing and then Everton can lose all of their HARD games and finish below Leeds too
Lamps will be so smug if they win this
Forest one up vs Coventry and now up to fifth place. Baggies two up vs second placed Cherries
Damn...they're my only hope of non-City/Pool winner!
Of course, they fell behind in the first leg last round
Tied it up very late and then walloped them in the second leg
Toffees lead 1-2 at the half. I hate both managers. Either one will be smug with a win
I still think Leeds will finish above both Toffees and Burnley no matter what the outcome of this match is
I'd like to see Forest up again
Me too
GOAL....great header by Benzi....... both home teams are behind
GOAL! BENZEMA GIVES REAL THE LEAD
GREAT header
Dahlgren-like bullet header!
Nice one two between Benzema and Vinicius Junior down the left then Junior crossed back for Benzema to score with a great header from the edge of the box and it landed in the upper 90
HE'S DONE IT AGAIN!!!
TWO NIL!
This was more like a Goldstein header
GOAL! BENZEMA AT THE DOUBLE AS REAL GO TWO UP AT SB
what a dive for the first pen!!!
A SWAN!!
Bob and I are flattered that we're being mentioned in the same breath as Real's goals. Cheers, Dave
Aaron Lennon didn't exactly make Bob proud of the lUFC Academy for the second pen
Hard to believe that Englands's two top keepers are the keepers in a relegation six pointer. It's mind boggling
His next goal, a 35 yard volley into the top 90, will be a Nocito goal
In terms of the playoffs I'm rooting for Forest. Bob may be going for the Terriers because their manager is Bielsa's former assistant at ER and well liked and respected by Leeds supporters
Love to see Chelsea get caught by Arsenal, Spurs and United.... lose to Palace in the Cup.... how I dream
That would definitely be a Nocito goal. a 180 degree turn in the box would be Nocito like too.,
If Palace win the Cup then seventh place is not good enough for Europe and sixth place would be the Conference League. United better improve to avoid either of those two fates.
I'll take that too
Diving header by Militao off the corner straight to Mendy. That was a free header
Hiya, guys - I've finally got Kate's car sorted out and am settling in to enjoy the second half of this one. I'm catching up with your comments from the first half.
I'm rooting for the Toon when they face Wolves on Friday
Come on, Desmond!
Real almost in again
Good Afternoon, Bob.Glad you were able to sort out Kate's car. Plenty for you to read in an eventful first half
I think any result if fine!!
Great save by Mendy then cleared away
Leeds with a big match at VR on Saturday and United need to help Leeds by winning at Goodison
Teams coming out at Turf Moor for the second half. Sean Dyche looks fired up.
Sean Dyche looks like he rattled a few teapots at the half. Hiss assistant, Ian Woan looks as if he was hit by one of them
Secon d half underway . The announcer said that Burnley has yet to win when trailing at the half this season
I hope you're right.
Burnley and Fulham both have corner tunnels opposite of the benches
I am guessing that Fulham's new stand will have the new dressing rooms and be on the tunnel side
I don't particularly like United's tunnel in the corner. They used to come out of the center.... if they redo the smallest stand....my stand....ok....the Bobby Charlton stand.... hopefully it will change too
What do you think about the whole Le Tiss flap?
A return to SB for Ancelotti. Criticized for finishing eight with the Toffees last season. Looking like the best manager of all time compared to Toffees managers this season
I still think this result is great
If you say Everton have such tough games....just stay ahead...Burnley would be miles back!!
BTW...Everton's next match....should be a home banker
People should keep off of Social Media
Did you google the 100 minute match crap?
Chelsea get a goal back!
GOAL ! KAI THE GUY PULLS ONE BACK FOR CHELSEA . NOW 1-2 AT SB
Nice cross from Jorginho and great header from Kai the Guy
I appreciate the shout-out for the "Dahlgren like" header. I wish I was as good as Benzema.
It's all Burnley pressure so far.
Benzi....misses!!
Oh - Richarlison nearly in for a hat-trick!
THAT was NOT Nocito like
Agreed with Dave. Le Tiss sounds like the equivalent of Trump fanatics. Disgraceful what he said about the invasion of Ukraine., Also a COVID denier and made a disgraceful comment about the Holocaust. He sound like a real scum bag who deserves to be nowhere near football coverage. Needs to go into permanent exile. Just my two cents worth
Header from Kai Havertz like Goldstein , Dahlgren, or Nocito?
Godfrey gets a yellow for time-wasting. Keep it up, Mikey boy!
You would have hit the target, eh Dave?
Bob will probably agree that Aaron Lennon disgraced the LUFC Academy when conceding the second penalty
Oh - off the bar! This is a right full-blooded affair.
OH! Jonjo Kenny with a cross off the corner of paoisdt and bar then bounces off Rich Arlison for a goal kick
Totally agree, but Aaron can redeem himself with an equalizer!
Wahay!
Jay Rodriguez ushers in Desmond! I luv it!
GOAL! DESMOIND AT TURF MOOR! J Rod and Charlie Taylor combined . Nice turn by J Rod then put Charlie Taylor down the left then went past Jonjo Kenny then his pass was diverted in by J Rod
Now settle it down, lads - don't go thinking that you can win this one. 2-2 is just fine.
Charlie Taylor's assist more representative of the LUFC Academy. Did her redeem Aaron Lennon?
I wouldn't be cheering...it could come back and bite you!
It goes back to Toffees four points clear of Burnley and Hornets ./Leeds eight points clear of those two. Burnley ahead off Hornets on goal difference
Leeds will remain eight points clear of the drop zone as long as Burnley fail to win
Nick Pop[e does well to turn around a bicycle kick from Rich Arlison after a cross was headed away
What an effort from Richarlison! What a save from Pope!
DCL heads over a nice cross
Nice cross from Micalenko
Oh - DCL nearly in there. Everton look the more likely.
Toffees with 71% of the possession and 50% of the score.
I might have to bugger off for a tutoring session.....grrrrr
Canaries hoists Burnley on Sunday. I'm guessing Bob will be rooting for the Canaries.
Sorry, Dave. This is a tough time to have to leave
Nice block there by Tarkowski as Gordon threatened.
Young Martin Branthwiaste heads just over from a corner. His only Toffees goal was in the 1-1 draw at SB in December
And just over the top from Braithwaite.
Shouldn't that be "Brain Waste," mate?
Boom boom!
Looks like a filthy evening in the great Manchester area tonight. I feel sorry for those Burnley kids. They look soaked through.
Two out of three of the Toffees non road losses this season tie in with Yours Truly. Win at the Amex the day after Elizabeth and I closed on the house in Harlingen and drew at SB the day we moved into this house. Not sure about the draw at ER in September. I don't have anything to do with that one
LOL! Nice one , mate. More like Brain freeze
Manchester looks like our weather of yesterday. Don't envy them.
Anthony Flash Gordon wins a corner off of Tark.
Just over twenty minutes left - settle down everyone.
How are Villareal and Bayern getting on?
bob, I'm sure you would love to see Rich Arlison being subbed any second
Villareal one up at the half
Like for like as Matty Lowton on for Connor Roberts
Lamps responds by bringing on Damari Grasy for Anthony Flash Gordon
Matty Lowton coming on now - might be an indication that Sean Dyche is settling for a draw.
Ziyech on for Kante as the second half is underway from SB
Kovacic on for Christian sen as it seems like Tuchel is changing to a back three.
GOAL! BENZEMA SCORES A HAT-TRICK AS REAL LEAD 1-3
Chelsea need a couple of goals.
Make that three goals!
A nightmare of a pass from Mendy about thirty yards from his goal meant for Rudiger a couple of yards from him, but picked up by Berzema and scored into an empty net from 25 yards out
Naughty by Lowton booked for a foul on Rich Arlison
Lowton picks up a yellow after only a couple of minutes on the pitch.
The holders are in Real jeopardy of being eliminated from the CL>
BOOM BOOM!
Benzema with consecutive hat-tricks . Had a second half hat-trick vs PSG in the previous round
I'd say so, mate. Benzema has ripped them apart tonight.
OH! Courtois superbly turns a round a long range shot from Azpi headed for the upper 90
Just about fifteen minutes left.
Oh - Pickers turns over a drive from Cornet.
Pickford does well to tip over a shot from Max the Coronet. Nice play for Wout and Charlie Taylor
Like for like as Matty Vudra brought on. Wout do you think about that substitution?
Forest two up vs Coventry. Forest fifth . Teesiders now a point outside the playoffs , a point behind Evil Blades and Forest. Teesiuders drawing 0-0 with table topping Cottagers
Don't like it - I just want defenders on.
James Garner , on loan from United, with the second Forest goal. I saw it on the Rockford Files. Did you?
I saw the tempramental Teuton lose his temper. Not exactly a surprise
Inside the last ten minutes now - hang on!
Pretty much like for like as Dwight McNeil on for Aaron Lennon. The final roll of the dice from Captain Red Beard
GOAL ! MAX CORONET GIVES BURNLEY A 3-2 LEAD. BOB SINGING THE BLUES
Bugger, bugger, bugger!
Cornet may have won it for the Clarets!
I am indeed singing the blues - but Frankie Lamps even more. I can't believe that they conceded from a throw.
Bern Godfrey showing that they need to improve what's being taught at the Canaries Academy. Poor clearance by him off a cross from Charlie Taylor then Matty Vydra did well to pick out Coronet
Come on, you Toffees! Get it back!
Rondon on for Holgate for the last few minutes.
Bob, you need to be letting Ben Godfrey have it for that poor clearance. All he had to do was clear Charlie Taylor's cross. As former Defenders we know that's highly unacceptable. We learned that as young kids. Why hasn't he?
Leeds now half a dozen points clear of the drop zone and Toffees just one with a tough run in. Not a great result for you, but not a disaster
Godfrey is dead to me.
Just a reminder that the Toffees last road point wason December 16th , they day we moved in the house. You're starting toes why they do so horribly on the road.
An Everton win would have been worse, IMHO, but not ideal.
Nice Python reference. Not sure if it was a dead Canary , but something in that family
I think so too. A Toffees loss doesn't hurt you with that tough run in. Ancelotti looking like a genius for finishing eighth with close to the same players
Oh - Rondon had a chance there! Put it wide.
Poor header from Tark then DCL has a pass that has Ruined on and volleyed wide
Four stoppage time minutes to come now. Nail biting stuff.
Pickers will lump this one up - Pope bobbles it but then collects.
Mitrovic, who else , gives Cottagers the lead at the Riverside. He credits the repair of Kate's car
It's over and Burnley with a priceless 3-2 win vs the Toffees, who are in real trouble
Bollocks - all over at Turf Moor and Burnley have a precious win in their relegation survival campaign.
Toffees 68 year streak in the top flight in jeopardy
If the Cottagers win at the Riverside then they need just two more wins to clinch promotion
It all means that we're now six points clear of Burnley in 18th, but they still have two matches in hand on us. If they win those two, we're in real trouble.
I bet nobody in the PPP picked the Toffees to go down
I think that thanks to the Toffees being so inept and incompetent that Leeds is safer than you think. JusI'm sure Toffees fans would love to trade places with you.
Huge match at VR on Saturday
We'll need a hand from United as they visit Goodison on Saturday morning.
Kai the Guy with a shot off of Carvajal for a Chelsea corner
Yes . We will do everything we can to knock the stuffing out of the Toffees and even some caramel too.
Yes, we need to do that work, too. But I was impressed by Watford's attacking flair against Liverpool last weekend. There is no guarantee of a win there.
Leeds need a big result at VR on Saturday too.
Agreed, Bob. Other than Canaries and Toffees everyone near the bottom is in decent form. Leeds needs a big performance on Saturday
Nice of Miotrovic to credit kate's car repair for his goal. Do you agree?
Zizou must feel the win is safe at SB as he brings on teen, Eduardo Camavega, for Tony Cross.
Very nice of him. He's still a chippy bugger.
Well, I'm off to finish up a bit of work before dinner. Cheerio for now!
Courtly does well to save a long range rocket from Reese James.
Cheers, Bob. Great chatting with you. Enjoy the rest of the day
Cottagers have won 0-1 at the Riverside. Just two wins from promotion
Gareth Bale on for the hat-trick hero. Former Gunner, Ceballos, on for Valverde.
Forest have defeated Coventry 2-0 and are now in fifth place
A clash of heads between Kai the Guy and Nacho Hernandez. Both players down
Into a quintet of stoppage time minutes which may be more like seven
It's over at SB and Real all but in the semis as they have defeated the holders 1-3.
Villareal have defeated Bayern 1-0
