I'm finally settling in to enjoy the first match.
Hey Bob,
I'm here...busy days recently
Sorry I haven't been my normal self!!
Morning, Dave - no worries; we're all busy these days. I'm just glad that you're enjoying the tutoring.
Celtic won at Ibrox in Old Firm Derby this morning
They have built a gap at the top now...after Stevie G buggered off
"enjoying"...I guess! It is easy but tiring!
I'm enjoying the pay at the end of the month
So what were your thoughts on yesterday's draw
Two points lost or one point gained?
The team on display at Upton Park this morning:
West Ham United (4-3-3): Fabianski; Fredericks, Zouma, Dawson, Cresswell; Rice, Soucek, Fornals; Benrahma, Bowen, Antonio. Subs: Areola, Coufal, Masuaku, Diop, Alese, Noble, Kral, Vlasic, Yarmolenko.
Everton (4-3-3): Pickford; Kenny, Keane, Godfrey, Mykolenko; Iwobi, Doucoure, Van de Beek; Gray, Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin. Subs: Begovic, Holgate, Branthwaite, Price, Alli, El Ghazi, Gordon, Dobbin, Rondon.
I've been thinking a lot about it. I think it was two points lost and it's worrying, because now I think we only have one clearly winnable match left - away to Watford next week. Even that is questionable, as Watford looked really good at Anfield in the morning yesterday. They won't be pushovers.
DVDB was supposed to be starting but dropped out late
Did they it was an injury?
But do you think the teams below can get that many points?
What is your schedule ?
Did you see your gaffe is on MIB later on today?
We've got seven matches left. I don't think that we can count on getting anything from three of them - against Chelsea, Citeh and Arsenal. That leaves four matches where we might pick up points. Next week is crucial - away to Watford. It's a must-win. The other three are by no means easy wins - away to Palace, home to Brighton and then away to Brentford on the last day. So, I could easily see us ending up somewhere around 35 points. Will that be enough? I don't know.
Busy folding laundry....great goal by Cresswelll... too much like JWP from yesterday!
Wahay! Lovely free kick from Aaron Cresswell. That certainly helps.
What's my gaffe on Men in Blazers?
So, it's really going to rely on the results of others. A loss for Everton today, for example, is very helpful.
When I was chatting with Doug Fusella a couple of weeks ago, this is the way that I saw the others' run-ins:
Norwich - 6 possible pts left = 23 points (relegation)
Burnley - 15 possible points left = 36 points (safety)
Watford - 7 possible points left = 29 points (relegation)
Everton - 10 possible points left = 35 points (relegation)
Leeds - 11 possible points left = 37 points (safety)
At that point, I thought we'd win yesterday - thus 37 points. Now it seems more like 35 points, which would mean relegation because of our inferior goal difference vs. Everton.
Good Morning,ob and Dave. Didn't know you all had posted a thread.
Boy...that was a lot of laundry!
Jessie M on Men in Blazers
I was going to go thru the other teams fixtures... I know Everton's is so rough
Toffees play Burnley on Wednesday and also have a make up against the Hornets. Those will be crucial
Hammers one up at the end of a competitive half. Aaron Cresswell bent it like Beckham
We're doing laundry too.

Hi David
Good Morning, Dave.
Off for walkies....Shad is not very understanding!
I still main tain that 35 points will be enough to stay up this year. That means Leeds needs five more points . Two wins will definitely do it
Canaries definitely down even though not clinched. Some key matches are Burnley vs Toffees Wednesday, Hornets vs Burnley , and Hornets vs Toffees, which has yet to be assigned a date and far as I know.
Have fun on walkies
I still think the three going down will be Canaries, Burnley, and Hornets. Toffees will come down to home form as they travel horribly. I don't see Leeds going down
The second half is underway from the London Stadium
There was a West Midlands Derby in the Prem yesterday and one in the Championship today.A return to St.,Andrews for Brucie as Brumvs Baggies kicked off a few minutes ago
Back on for the second half - I'm hoping that West Ham can keep this up.
Good Morning, Bob. I thought it was a scrappy first half separated by a moment of quality.
Hiya, David - welcome to the party!
Hammers up to fifth place ahead of United on goal difference and Spuds on goals scored.
Cheers, Bob. Glad to be participating
Rich Arlison wins a corner off of Jarred Bowen
Bloody hell - a goal out of nowhere from Everton. That's a big blow.
Flappy does exactly that at the corner then
GOAL ! MASON HOLGATE SCORES WITH A LONG RANGE SHOT TO TIE IT UP
Effan looking to sit up controversy by saying the goal should ben disallowed for a foul on Flappy. It was poor goalkeeping then ball watching by the Hammers as Rich Arlison laid it back for Holgate to strike home a rocket from the edge of the box.
Defensive Davie will be livid at the poor goalkeeping and poor defending off the corner. That was the Toffees first shot of the match on target
Hammers down to seventh place down below United and the Spuds.,
As I mentioned above, Norwich and Watford are the two sides who are clearly down.
That leaves three sides - Burnley, Everton and Leeds - battling to avoid that last spot. The problem for us is that Burnley and Everton have a lot more matches left than we do. If I'm right, both of them can reach 35 points or more - and that was even before that equalizer. I assumed that this match would be a West Ham win. A point here makes the situation for us even worse.
Toffees now four points clear of the drop zone and four points behind Leeds
I guess the good news , if it is, is that Burnley and Toffees face each other on Wednesdayand one , if not both will drop points.
Yes! That's more like it!
GOAL! SMASH AND GRAB ON THE BREAK AS ANTONIO WENT ON A RUN AND FORCED A NICE KICK SAVE FROM PICKFORD THEN JARRED BOWEN PUT IN THE REBOUND TO GIVE THE HAMMERS A 2-1 LEAD
Yes - a draw in that match would be very helpful.
Bob owes a special thank you to Iwobi as he failed to con trot the pass from thew Ukrainian player. Then Fornals picked out Antonio, who went on a long run, forced a kick save from Pickford then put away the rebound
Toffees back to three points clear of the drop zone. , Hammers back up to fifth place ahead of Spuds and United
Big matches are Burnley vs Toffees on Wednesday, Hornets vs Toffees, and Hornets vs Burnley. Someone will drop points in all those matches.
Wahay! Michael Keane sees red! Everton down to ten men!
It goes from bad to worse for the Toffees as Michael Keane is sent off for a second booking for a clumsy foul on Antonio just outside the D
Michael Keane will be suspended for his return to Turf Moor on Wednesday, but he's in such poor form that it may be good news for the Toffees
OH! Free kick from Cresswell curled just wide
Bob, do you agree with Efan that it's no sympathy for Michael Keane? He will be devastated that he will be suspended for the big match against his former mates on Wednesday.
No sympathy at all for Michael Keane.
Toffees last away win was at the AMEX on August 28th and last away point was at SB, of all places, when they drew there the day we moved into this house in December. Interesting history lesson????
Hat's off to Alex Iwobi for that mistake. Lovely.
Like for like as Mark Noble on for Jarred Bowen
So, if Everton were to go down, would there be any of your players that United might be interested in?
Based on those miserable Toffees away stats and the fact that they have had players sent off left and right since Lamps took charge that a professional better would favor Burnley? Surely they would beat ten men who travel miserably, but you never know
I am back...Shadow kept going and going and going
Dele Alli looking a bit forlorn on the sideline now. I really thought that the move for him in January might kickstart his career again, but that hasn't happened.
Are you feeding him prunes, Dave?
I would definitely be interested in young Anthony "Flash" Gordon . Otherwise , none of them would do any better than play in League Cup matches
Wonderful short corner by Eveton there!!
Moronic
Not sure if anyone mentioned, but VDB was injured in the warmup,. That's why Mason Holgate is playing in midfield
Welcome back, Dave. Never heard of feeding prunes to a dog
Any opinions on my 10:30 question why Burnley may be favored by the bookies on Wednesday? Also at 10:28 I posted the Toffees away day Blues that may help with the 10:30 question
This score is good news for Bob and bad news for the two Dave's
Anthony Flash Gordon on for DCL
Just śaw the Keane yellow....every tackle can get a card in today's card...Some tackles are just fouls
Not even Jordan Pickford - England's #1?
Or DCL?
Taking off your striker when you need a goal!
I wish we were back when a yellow card was here and there and a red card was rare!
Now days....there is never a game without a yellow and red happens too frequently
Nice break from the Hammers. Long run from Declan Rice then passed to Fornals whose pass was cut out for a corner
I agree with you about the yellows and reds. Reds used to only be for fighting.
So far this weekend, you gained a point on everyone at the bottom of table apart from matching Norwich
Another set up fixtures down and better off for Leeds
I Guess Pickford , but he would sit the bench behind De Gea. Not interested in DCL. He's a one season wonder. I would see him on someone like Saints
West Ham's Ukrainian hero Yarmolenko coming on.
Jammy Lenko on for Ben Rama . Both teams now have a Ukrainian oil the pitch
Great move and run by Antonio and a great tackle
I think Burnley are the favorites Wednesday at Turf Moor because thew Toffees haven't won on the road since August 28th and their last away point on December 16th. Also, the Toffees have a poor disciplinary record since Lamps took over.
Textbook defending from Ben Godfrey
Yes, that's true because we had a relatively easy opponent this weekend. But I fear that we're going to have another period like we did in February when we get tonked by City, Chelsea and Arsenal and the others are picking up points. I just don't think it's possible that three sides will all finish at 30 points or less. Norwich and Watford will but Burnley and Everton will finish around 35, 36 or so. So, it's going to be mighty tough.
Colgate playing like a Mason as he's booked for tripping Fornals
That makes the match on Wednesday crucial, but I'm confident Leeds will finish above Burnley and Toffees . Playing better now that JM took over.
How many points do you see us finishing on? I'm thinking 35.
Not a happy match for Lamps against the team where he started his playing career. Strange as this sounds, this is on e of the Toffees better away performances of the season
You have more confidence in Burnley and Everton than I do
Of course, Everton do host United....not good for you guys!
Based on what I posted about the Toffees , their home matches will be key. I don't see them getting more than 33 points , so that must mean I see Leeds finishing above them. Leeds and Burnley will be really close. I will have a better idea after the match at Turf Moor on Wednesday
I guess you would want Everton to win or draw at Burnley
Keep them further away
Did you all see what I posted about the Toffees horrible away form?I knew it was bad, but didn't know it was that bad
All Leeds to worry about it one of them finishing below them
A Toffees away win would be a shock. Last poem win on the road was back on August 28th
that is crazy away from Goodison
Teams at the bottom dont' get that many points... Leeds are EIGHT points clear of the drop!
Based on what I typed at 10:46 I came up with Burnley, Hornets ,and Toffees finishing below Leeds based win what I have typed about the Toffees horrible away day blues
I see Leeds surviving . If they get 35 then that should be enough this season. Do you all agree?
I just look at the ten matches that Burnley have left - they're not playing any top half sides at all.
Four of their matches are potentially winnable, matches against the likes of Everton, Norwich, Watford and Newcastle. Add that to a provable record of Sean Dyche digging out of these situations. I think they'll survive - just.
In contrast, we've only got seven matches left, three of which are against top sides. That only leaves four matches where we might pick up points. So how many points do you think we get out of next Saturday away to Watford, then away to Palace, home to Brighton and finally away to Brentford on the last day. I'm thinking five points.
that was stupid by Cresswell
I don't agree - I see Burnley finishing on 36 points and Everton finishing on 35 points with better GD than us. Our GD is -33 while Everton's is -18.
Richarlson is being an idiot too...rolling around by that
That should get a card too
I just saw . Tough run in for Leeds. Key match on Saturday at VR. A draw would not be good , but not a disaster either. I think Leeds can defeat the Seagulls at ER on the penultimate weekend. That would leave Leeds needing another point. I think they can get that
Last chance saloon.....header...over the bar
And that is it
I am off to the loo
I hope you're right - Wednesday is going to be crucial for us.
It's over and the Hammers defeat the Toffees 2-1.. Hammers up to fifth place and the toffees three points clear of the drop zone. They have a key match at Turf Moor on Wednesday
I'm off to the shower. Back in a tick.
Bob, I I agree with Dave that you are giving the Toffees and Burnley too much credit. I understand your concern though
I'm back from a refreshing shower for the late one. I'm assuming that Newcastle are safe at this point on 31 points from 29 matches, but a big Spurs win might help morale at Elland Road, who knows.
Of course, you lot are hoping that the Magpies can pull one out at Shite Fart Lane.
Like Dave, I'm on laundry duty today, so I'll be a bit in and out of this first half.
Back from walkies with Trooper. For some reason he wasn't very cooperative
We're on laundry duty day too and definitely going for the Toon. This match doesn't really have a bearing on Leeds season when you consider the bottom four are so far behind. A huge Spuds loss would help the two Dave's for sure
Doesn't sound like I missed too much
Joie Linton fouls Kulesevski about thirty yards from goal
OH! Curling free kick from Eric Dier not too far wide and comes off the stanchion
Not a happy return to St. Andrews for Brucie as Brum is one up vs the Baggies late on. This match is meaningless other than for local bragging rights
St. Max down for several minutes then gets up looking really dazed.
Play resumers and now St. Max off on a speedy run and booed by Spuds fans. I understand their frustration as he was down supposedly for the count then all of sudden, magically able top go on the speediest run of the match
Brum have defeated the Baggies 1-0 in an unhappy return to St. Andrews for Brucie in a West Midlands Derby
Back from laundry duty at the half hour mark. Still 0-0 and not a lot to shout for as far as I can see.
On the Leeds issue again, I just don't see us finishing with more than 35 points. I'll have to look at the tables in previous seasons and see what scores meant safety for the 17th placed teams, but I gut tells me that's not enough.
Number One Son fouls Joe Willock about a foot outside the Toon box. A definite striker's challenge
Oh my - what a hit by Fabian Schar!
Great time to score, too. Right before half-time. This would be a precious win for the Toon, probably all but assuring them safety.
GOAL ! NICE FREE KICK AS I WAS SINGING A SONNY AND SCHARR TOON IN MY HEAD. NOT A STELLAR FREE KICK OFF A POOR WALL AND POOR KEEPING BUT THEY ALL COUNT
VAR check now for a handball on Chris Wood.
VAR checking for handball by Chris Wood. I think this might be chalked off. Nothing doing as it counts
Tooin up to 14th place and I would think a point from clinching safety
Manquillo tackles Number One Son for a Spuds corner off a long solo run
GOAL ! NUMBER ONE SON MAKES UP FOR HIS ERROR AS HE TIES IT UP OFF THE CORNER
Here's the result of my research:
Last season, Burnley survived with 39 points
In 2019/2020, Villa survived with 35 points
In 2018/2019, Brighton survived with 36 points
In 2017/2018, Soton survived on 36 points
Sorry, Ben Davies with the goal. Corner headed wayward and eEric Dier kept the play alive playing it wide to Number OPn e Son and his great cross was well headed in by Ben Davies
Didn't take long for Spurs to get the equalizer through Son.
1-1
Last Season third from bottom Fulham had thirty points , so Burnley would have been fine with 31 points. Based on the number of matches left I'm coming up with 35 points being enough. We also need to see where those teams were at this stage of the season.
Not sure how Burnley will get fourteen points in their last ten matches. That's a tough ask. Ten points in ten matches is possible for the Toffees, but not a definite
So, who do you see going down - Everton? Burnley?
I looked at the Toffees schedule. I don't see the Toffees getting ten points . That's a really tough schedule and take in to account their horrible away form. I just don't see it
The match really came to life in that last ten minutes. A bit of argybargy in the tunnel as the teams go off.
1-1
It's 1`-1 at the half.
That's a tough question ,mate. It will be easier to answer after Wednesday. I think the Toffees are going down with the Hornets and Canaries due to their away form. I think their away form is going to come back and haunt them. Don't just blame Lamps. It goes back to Raffa too.
I see four winnable matches for Burnley, with matches against Everton, Watford, Norwich and Newcastle to come. Two more points against the six other matches. That's how I see them getting 14 more. The advantage for them is that, after yesterday's match with City, they don't have any big sides to play.
I'm assuming the Toffees will lose all their away matches except for possibly a draw at VR and even that's not a given. Getting nine points at home to in form Palace, a decent Foxes side, United , Chelsea , and Bees is a tough ask. Two wins won't be enough. I could see them defeating United and Bees with a draw at VR. I don't see them getting any other points.
If Burnley defeats the Toffees then the Toffees lose., which is what I expect. I'm predicting a draw when the Toon come to Turf Moor.Burnley get 35 in a best possible case which hurts the Toffees . I think 33 0r 34 is more realistic for Burnley, which means Leeds would only need one win and surely then get a win in their last eight matches. Leeds surviving. I still think the Toffees are going down
Second half underway and Dan Buirned for nasty challenge on Harry Kane
Much tougher run in for the Toffees than Burnley. Wednesday'smatch is really crucial
GOAL! MATT DOHERTY HEADS IN A FAR POST CROSS FROM HARRY KANE TO GIVE THE SPUDS A 2-1 LEAD
Kulesevski picked up a horrible pass from Dan Burn at the halfway line, passed to Harry Kane who went on a run win eright then his cross was dummied by Number One Son , the ball boiunced and Doherty headed in from a yard out at the far post
Spuds in fifth place. If they score the next goal then they will go in to fourth place ahead of the Gunners on goals scored
GOAL ! NUMBER ONE SON GIVES SPUDS A 3-1 LEAD AND NOW OVERTAKE THE GUNNERS FOR FOURTH
Nice one touch passing by the Spuds that started with Lloris. Several passes later Harry Kane played Kulesevski wild right . He passed to Number One Son, who took a touch then shot past the stranded Dubravka
One of the Murphy towns on for Joe Linton and Bruno Guimares on for Javi Manquillo as Eddie Howe makes a double substitution
Cross from Matt Target heads out by Roimero for a Toon corner off a pass from ASt. Max then the corner out for another
GOAL! CASINO ROYAL GIVES SPUDS a 4-1 lead. his first for spuds. A toe poked volley at the far post
Along Spuds possession down the left that culminated in a one two between Matt Doherty and Kulesevski then Casino royal toe poked the volley at the near post off the cross from Doherty
Number One Son put through by Harry Kane and shoots just wide e with just Dubravka to beat
Toon a point ahead of Leeds and still a better goal difference. Bob might be hoping from more Spuds goals
first time in five years the Spuds have score two plus goals in half a dozen consecutive Prem matches
Hoy Berg down holding his face. Not sure what caused that
The final roll of the dice from Eddie Howe as Lascelles on for Chris Wood. Sounds like damage limitation
I'm back from having a bite of lunch to see Spurs cruising it now against the Toon. 4-1. Wallop!
I really hope that you're right about Leeds' fortunes. It's going to be a very tough run to the end of the season with a lot of nail biting from yours truly.
Betancur replaced in the Wink of an eye by Harry and Kulesevski off for Moura of Lucas
So, what did you make of the invitation from David Vansuch? I've told that we're tentatively in, and I'd love to see everyone. The only complicating factors are adoption and a possible trip to VA.
Welcome back, Bob. What was on the menu. Did you feast on some Toon like the Spuds have?
I emailed David Vansuch and said I'm in. He never replied back. Should I call him?
Hoping for a double from, you. Adoption and reunion.
The last spot will be tight and I understand your nail biting.ASt least Leeds have improved since JM took over.
Just to let you know the Spuds are up to fourth place , ahead of the Gunners on goal difference ahead of tomorrow's match
The final roll of the dice from Conte as casino Royla comes off after scoring his first Spuds goal and replaced by Steve Berg-Wine
GOAL ! STEVE BERG-WINE MAKES IT 5-1 AS HE WAS SENT RHOUGH BY FELLOW SUB, LUCAS MOURA
A poor pass by scholar , who looks more like Cher was picked up in midfield then Lucas Moura got past Dan as he burned him then put through Steve Berg-Wine , who scored with just Dubravka to beat
If Spuds score a dozen more without reply then Toon will have a worse goal difference than Leeds.
Wow - 5-1!
David emailed me last night and said that he'd gotten positive responses from you and John Menditto. I think he's going to send out a group message next week. He just wanted to send introductory emails to individuals because he didn't want to surprise anyone with a group message.
This isn't doing Newcastle's GD any good, but I still think that they'll be safe with eight more matches to come. Realistically two wins from those will have them safe.
Kane has a go from distance. Hasn't really had his shooting boots on today.
A trio of stoppage time minutes
Thanks, Bob. I will wait for David's reply
It's over and the Spuds up to fourth as they thrash the Toon 5-1.
That's it - a Spurs win that helps Leeds out but puts more pressure on United.
I should be around for some of the mid-week matches, although maybe not tomorrow's Arsenal match. I'll look for you then.
Toon a point ahead of Leeds on 31 points, but Bob will be pleased that Leeds gained four on their goal difference
Cheers, Bob. Great chatting . Enjoy the rest of your weekend
