The New Season Starts Here!
It's been a long barren summer without a lot of top level footer, so I'm even more excited than usual for the start of the new season. It all starts this morning at 10am with the beginning of the Championship season. Recently relegated Burnley got off to a winning start at Huddersfield yesterday - can their promotion rivals match them today?
That's just a teaser for the Community Shield match, the annual curtain raiser for the season. This one has even more spice than usual, as both City and Liverpool have new look attacks. I despise the big money that City have to throw around but I have to admit that I'm looking forward to seeing Erland Haaland rip it up.
Of course, I've got my hands full with the twins this season, but I'll hope to join you for at least some of the action. Bring it on!

Good Morning, Bob. Thanks for getting us started. Due to having visitors and the numerous Summer activities I'm behind the loop on things,. Didn't realize Bad Kompany is now the Burnley manager. I'm expecting a change in their playing style, and his appointment probably due to the takeover in the middle of last season.
Morning, David - I'm just settling in with a bagel and cuppa for the morning's footer. I feel the same way that you do - I'm well out of touch with the news. I'll have to do some research this week for my PPP picks.
Me too. Just got back from taking Elizabeth to Walmart. You had better brekkie than Yours Truly, who had a bowl of Special K.
Burnley now in Good Kompany ?
I used to be a massive Bad Co. fan back in the day. I saw them at Art Park, the venue where we saw Steve Miller Band and Peter Frampton back in 2018.
Which match are you going to watch on ESPN+. Cardiff v. Norwich caught my eye.
I just checked FOTMOB. That's the only 10 AM match on Plus, so I guess I'll watch that. Canaries should be one of the favorites to go up, so this will let us gauge if that's true.
The late Championship match is the Teesiders vs Baggies . Is there another more important match on at that time???
Got the match on the ROKU telly
Cardiff vs Canaries is underway
I suppose that the Baggies are promotion favorites - not sure about Boro.
Great to have the footer back.
I Based on the second half of last season I would think the Teesiders are more favored by the bookies. Teesiders finished seventh and Baggies were mid table. Maybe the Baggies signed new players
Agreed. I think yesterday a Company of players kicked off the season.
Hey Guys
Welcome to a new season.
I have 5Live on my phone for updates
I mowing the lawn in a minute
I'll be back
It seems as if Cardiff have been active in the market in the summer; Norwich - not so much.
Not sure if you all know the latest about Elizabeth?
Morning, Dave - great to have you on board for the new season.
"Joel - mow the lawn." Remember that day?
Cardiff managed by former LUFC striker , Steve Morison
How is Elizabeth doing, David - give us the update.
Morison was not really an Elland Road legend, if truth be told.
I wanted to wait until more people are on the blog. She has extreme pain in her left arm, took her to the emergency room on Thursday and they put her arm in a sling and gave her a shot for pain. They said they really couldn't do anything else until Wednesday when she sees the orthopedic doctor because her bloodwork, X-rays and EKG were normal. She has been lying down on the couch most of the day due to the pain and has been going to bed early.
She insisted on going grocery shopping despite the pain . They put her arm in a sling , but she sometimes functions without it.
Salord on top vs Jayne Mansfield as is Barrow at Stockport on their return to the Football League
Bob are you trying to say that Jim was the Morrison that was more of a legend???
I'm really sorry to hear that, David. Was there an incident recently where she injured her arm or is it a longstanding issue?
Absolutely - Jim (not Steve) can always light my fire.
Evil Lions one top vs the Potters as are the Tangerines vs the Reading Railroad
Thanks, Bob. Elizabeth has been like this for a month . We're not sure how is started. That's why I could not justify leaving Elizabeth alone three days with a 100 lb dog. Jacquelyn is gone most of the day at work
Back to COVID rules where five subs are allowed. Don't like it
Bob, first season on the blog wher4e you've had the first pun. Well in
Rotherham on top vs Swans.
Thanks, mate - I try but you're the punmaster.
Cambridge on top vs Fake Dons as is Not a big Club vs Pompey. Wycombe two up vs Richard Burton
I hope that the doctors can sort out that problem. That doesn't sound like fun at all.
Cheers, mate.I'll continue as long as people don't tire of me doing that
Thanks, mate. It took the insurance a while to find an orthopedist that would took her insurance . Hers is only good own North Carolina while mine can be used across state lines.
Thanks for your support, Bob. Greatly appreciated. I thin you understand why a trip to the reunion couldn't happen
Maddox was fussy early on today but he calmed down the moment that the football came on. Soccer fan in the making?
Barrow two up at Stockport on their return to the Football League. Wasall two up vs Hearts in Pool
Yes, that's perfectly understandable.
Sure sounds like Maddox is a Footballer in the making. How about Macy. Is she a calming influence?
Salford two up vs Jayne Mansfoe3l;d as is Mot;ey Crewe at Rochdale. Tommy Lee on a hat-trick
Bolton on top at PR. Bolton may be one of the promotion favorites in L1
Jocks season starts today too.Rangers won 1-2 at Livvy
Sad to see that Ipswich, who've been mired in L1 for years now, are 1-0 on the opening day to Bolton. Both sides have seen better days.
In the Scots Championship Cove Rangers on top vs Raith Rovers . Three consecutive promotions for Cove in their first three seasons in the Football League?
The two of them usually stir each other up, actually.
Actually Bolton in the lead . I think their one of the favorites for promotion
That sounds about par for the course. That will probably be a pattern throughout the years based on my experiences.
How close in age our your girls?
Talking about Ipswich vs Bolton. Weren't both part off Monty Python's Dead Parrot sketch???
They are seventeen months apart
Neither of these sides are pulling up any trees today.
Wycombe three up vs Richard Burton. Liz Taylor is amused
Cheltenham on top vs Posh
Agreed. This has been a dull first half
Blackburn on top vs QPR as is Bristol City at the KC. That's not idle gossip
Northants on top vs Colchester, thinking of what might have been
Barrow three up at Stockport County. Tough return to the Football League
Chris Sutton United on top vs Newport . He'll smoke to that
Partick prickly Thistle two up at Crocodile Dundee, who are lacking in bite. More like bitten
Swans tie it up at Rotherham
Tractor Boys tie it up at PR in the Dead Parrot Derby
Cheltenham two up vs Posh
Cedric the Kipper Kipre feeling puckey due to being booked
Newport ties it up atChris Sutton United, Stevenage on top at Tranny

It's 0-0 at the half in the Welsh capital. The second half can't be any worse
Half time and I'm on diaper duty.
Hey Boys
Just finished the lawn
I remember the sign well Bob!
Stinky job!
Give my best to Elizabeth
Thanks , Dave. I will let her know. Everybody's support is greatly appreciated.
Second half underway from then Welsh Capital
I would be surprised if your lawn mowing is less stinky than the first half was. Dave, you would have called it bloody typical modern day football.
Diaper suty symbolic of the first half of this match
GOAL ! CARDIFF TAKE THE LEAD . ROMAINE LETTUCE TOM SAWYERS WITHA LONG RANGE DEFLECTED SHOT THAT WAS KRUL ON TIM IN THE CANARIES GOAL
GOAL! On his debut, Sawyers fires the Evil Bluebirds into the lead. 1-0!
I think that was the first second half goal in the Football League today
Welcome back, Bob. I think my description was more interesting, but glad you're back on board
Harrogate two up vs Swindon
Pompey tied it up at Hillsborough, but the hosts now leading 2-1. Both Bob and Dave are none too pleased
Trany ties it up vs Stevenage. Stockport pull sit back to 1-3 on their return to the Football League
OH! off the bar from Kenny McLean. Nearly tied it up
Tangerines take the lead at newly promoted Killie who had a one season absence
Cove Rangers two for two in their first two season in the Scots Footie League. Two up vs Raith in their first ever match in the Championship
Partick Thistle three up at Crocodile Dundee
Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic one up vs Forfar in their first ever match ion the Scots footie League
Forest Green in the ir first ever match in L1 one up at Joey Barton's lads, who were partners in promotion with them
I am back after cooking some ground beef
I haven't tuned in the match....good thing!!
Pompey ties it up at Hillsborough. Now Desmond
Desmond on Saturday as Wednesday lose the lead twice to Pompey!
Welcome back Dave. Congratulations on the tying goal at Hillsborough
According to the experts, Ipswich are favorites to go up this season with United's ex coach in charge
They fell behind at home to Bolton but now 1-1
I want them to go up again!
My memories of them in the 70s and 80s...they shouldn't be in the third tier!!
Of course, I have my brother-in-law that is a big fan
What's on the menu for lunch or is the beef for dinner?
Evil Lions two up at home to Stoke
Both goals scored by Charlie Cresswell.... a loanee from Elland Road....get him back!!
I think that may be a promotion six pointer. Were both Bolton and Ipswich part of the Dead Parrot sketch? You are far more of a Python expert than Yours Truly
Pompey now lead 2-3. WAY HAY
Nothing...just had to cook it before the date was up
Fight at Cardiff. Will there be cards?
Been there done that. Sure it's tasty
PLAY UP POMPEY
POMPEY PLAY UP
I think Grant Hanley will be booked. The announcer wanted red
Wonder if Charlie Cresswell on loan may be an investment for the future as he wasn't getting much playing time at ER and this will give him valuable experience. Sort of an investment
Posh come from two down to make it Desmond at Cheltenham
Damn ....I didn't win the megamillions
Orient two up at Grimsby. N to a happy return to the Footie League for either of the two newly promoted clubs
Parrot Sketch?
Sorry Dave. You could have chartered a private jet to England. Hope you do better next time
Not sure but I thought Ipswich and Bolton (Notlob) were the two cities in the sketch. You and Bob would know better than Yours Truly. I might be wrong
GEE OH GEE Peery NG sent off for a second booking. Cardiff down a man
Real Dons two up vs Gils . Both partners in relegation
Rochdale pulls it back to 1-2 vs Motley Crewe
Wasall up by a Barber Shop Quartet vs Hartlepool
Barrow 3 up at Stockport at HT
Now it is 2-3
Stockport three down at the half have pulled it back to 2-3 vs Barrow on their return to the Football League
Stockport managed by Dave Chalinor , whom I think was Tranmere's long throw specialist when John Aldridge was in charge
Hope Erik Ten Hag can give halftime talks as inspiring as Cahllinor
Harrogate three up vs Swindon
Posh two down at the half now lead 2-3 at Cheltenham
Bristol Rovers two up vs Forest Green , who were partners in promotion. Forest's first ever season in L1
Derby take the lead at home to Oxford
Tigers tie it up vs Bristol City
Are the Rams one of the promotion favorites? :Looks like they kept a good number of players from last season. Have a rookie manager whom I think was Wazza's assistant
Now 3-3 at Hillsborough. Sorry, Dave
Northants now lead Colchester 2-1. Thinking of what might have been
Now ten vs ten as Grant Hanley sent off for a second booking for the Canaries
Northants lose the lead twice. Now Desmond vs Colchester
Cardiff are trying see off this 1-0 win - both sides on 10 men now. Sorry I was absent from the second half blogging. I was feeding Maddox.
3-3 at Hillsborough
Killie ties it up vs the Tangerines on their return to the SPL . Crocodile Dundee were three down vs Partick. Now trail 2-3
I don't remember references to Ipswich and Bolton in the Parrot Sketch, but I may be wrong.
Sorry...missed your Wednesday update
I don't either Bob
Welcome back, Bob. Has Macy been fed?
No problem, Dave. I had thought of it as a Saturday update, LOL!
Will Macy and Maddox be on the LOB in the future?
Sorry. I wasn't sure. You two are the masters of Python knowledge
Dave must be none too pleased at Seven minutes of stoppage time despite it being the lucky number
Did you see Sterling's first goal for Chelsea?
Missed a chance and it rebounded off his knee into the goal
I still thinks he stinks!
Hibs take the lead at St. Johnny
No I did not see his goal and yes he stinks,.
Forest green in their first ever L1 match take a late 10-2 lead at Joey Barton's lads. Both partners in promotion
Northants take a late 3-2 lead vs Colchester
Will you guys be watching the Women's Euro Final tomorrow?
July 31, 2022 at Wembley England vs Germany
July 30, 1966 at Wembley England vs Germany
COME ON ENGLAND
I think I will watch tomorrow. Should be interesting.
Hull score a last minute winner at home to Bristol C... real...not gossip
It's over and Cardiff defeat the Canaries 1-0
Teams coming out at the King Power
Canaries with a poor start but then Forest started poorly last season and look what happened
Klopp already complaining about how early the game is
It is for special circumstances because of the World Cup
Stop complaining that you played last and start first
STOP WINNING THINGS THEN!
Derby win
No rest for the weary as the match will kick off shortly at the KP
Pompey draw 3-3
Right then - Cardiff have finished 1-0 winners. Not a great start for the Canaries, who have run away with the title the last two times they've been in the Championship.
On to the Community Shield link now.
Dave I agree 100% with your 11:57 post
Charlton took the lead in the 95th minute
Conceded in the 96th
Mentioned Forest's poor start last season. Will the Canaries emulate them?
Why are some fans booing the NA and singing other songs
IDIOTS
Finished Desmond in that match
Interested to see how Darwin Nunez fares for Pool and Haaland for Citeh
Barrow held on to win at Stockport
Favorites to go down win at favorites to go up
Praising Citeh for their performance vs Bayern at Lambeau Field . Let's see how they fare vs Bayern in an official match, not a friendly
They're off from the KP
We are off
YIKES! Plus thirty five seconds behind according to FOTMOB
Liverpool made three finals last season...won two of them...scored NO GOALS
Will you be full of praise and positive comments for these two throughout the match???
Nice stat, Dave
We're away at Wembley - here are the teams on display:
Liverpool (4-1-2-3) Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho; Henderson, Thiago; Salah, Firmino, Diaz.
Substitutes: Davies, Gomez, Konate, Milner, Keita, Jones, Elliott, Nunez, Carvalho.
Manchester City (4-1-2-3) Ederson; Walker, Dias, Ake, Cancelo; Rodri; Bernardo, De Bruyne; Mahrez, Haaland, Grealish.
Substitutes: Ortega Moreno, Phillips, Stones, Gundogan, Alvarez, Foden, Mbete, Palmer, Wilson-Esbrand.
I turned off 5Live because it was well ahead of the TV
5Live is ahead of ESPN2 for the W Euros too....No need to be delayed! Do they want to bleep out the language
Nice run by Salah then his shot into the side netting
Salah with a chance...outside of the netting
Welcome back. Must be , Dave. Way too far behind
I don't want City to get a hat-trick of titles....they could set a record and four on the trot!
United won 3 on the trot twice
Won 2...lost title on last day to Blackburn, won 2...lost title on last day to Arsenal, won 3 in a row.....won 3 in a row again too
Bob, Wembley busy this weekend for the Final tomorrow
This is being played in Leicester
Shot from KDB deflected into the side netting for a corner off of Van Dyke
I don't want Citeh to win four on the trot either but sadly favorites due to the signing of some Leeds born player. Wonder if Bob has heard of him. Sure you have, Dave
Kyle Walker was accused of making his run a fraction too early. Five yards offside is more than a fraction
Free header for Andy Robertson lands in the side netting. A back header was the better option
I like the purple in City's shirt....ala... late 60s
Well...City would only get three in a row this season...so there is hope
United to win the league....of course
That's true. Forgot about 2020
This match will always be the Charity Shield to me
I am not sure when they started or stopped it but I do remember a video of the 1974 CS match between Liverpool and Leeds(the famous Bremner/Keegan red cards match)
The teams came out of the tunnel with the captain carrying the First Division Trophy and FA Cup
That is a nice touch!
Didn't notice the purple . Thinking about Trooper and I having lunch in about half an hour
Thanks for the clarification about playing in Leicester. I just assumed it was Wembley.
I try to forget that season too
Nothing much to report about Erling Haaland so far. I can only remember a couple of touches. That's it.
Tssk....as if you have a couple of little 'uns on your mind!
Let's have Keano go out and mark him like he did with his dad
It's the Charity Shield for me too. Did the name change during the start of the Premier League era.
Hard to emulate Keano. That's what I call marking of the highest order.
GOAL ! TAA GIVES POOL, THE LEAD
GOAL! Liverpool strikes first. TAA with a tidy finish.
Nice Pool move and pass from Salah resulted in a n ice curling finish. May have taken a slight nick
Three First Names scores the first goal of the season
Did it take a deflection
Elizabeth called to be picked up from Walmart. Probably won't be back till midway in the second half.
Hate that Liverpool are ahead but happy to see City behind
North London or West Manchester for the Title please
These two can bugger off
The ESPN website is ahead of my roku
Grr
