Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Good Afternoon, Bob. Here to join you for the crucial matches. Toffees vs Palace about to kickoff on USA. The other two matches kickoff on the COCK at 3.
How is everything ? You should be excited.
Here are the stakes for my beloved Leeds United today. If both Everton and Burnley win today, we're just as good as relegated. That cannot happen. If both sides draw, it's still very, very difficult for us. However, if even Burnley loses, then I think we're odds on to stay up.
They're off from, Goodison Park.
Hiya Boys
I am here...my 2pm ended early
I am here until 4:30
Afternoon, David - they've kicked off at Goodison. I'll be turning over to the match at Villa Park on The Cock at 3pm.
If Burnley lose at Villa Park then they need a better result vs the Toon than Leeds at the Bees. I would say 50-50 for both Leeds and Burnley
Don't say odds on. I'd prefer Burnley having to go to SJP instead of playing at TM
Good Afternoon, Dave. How are you?
Mansfield beat Northampton yesterday....awful end of the season for Nhants....win your last name but still get caught on GD and not go up on goals scored!
Then lose in the semi
Toffees in the best position to stay up even if they lose today
Handbags....glad Palace look up for this one
Bit of argybargy between Anthony Gordon and Wilf Zaha early doors.
Can't you watch both Bob?
Typically Childish behavior from Zaha on Flash Gordon, who despite his talent likes to dive and overreact
Welcome, Dave - thanks for joining us. I'm all full of jitters here. These matches are soooo important.
I'm going to watch the match from Villa Park on the IMAC and the one from Goodison on the telly
My laptop can't handle the streaming.
Flash Gordon more like Ming the Merciless with the corner headed away by the first man
During Everton/Brentford match, the commentator said if Everton go down it would be the biggest relegation since United in 1974. I would think that is correct
Or would put City going down in the 80s?
Flash Gordon whining like a baby. Toffees down to ten men the last two matches. The same today?
It's an absolute cauldron inside Goodison. Every little challenge is being greeted by either cheers or boos.
I',m going with 1974 since Citeh weren't nearly the club they are today. I agree with that assessement
It would have been so much better if Chelsea beat Everton and United at least got a draw!
Get a new computer mate!!!
An early Palace goal is needed to silence the home fans
Oh - Ayew with a half chance. Palace look like they've come to play, I'm happy to see.
I would love that, David - I'll take another couple of red cards, too.
I totally agree with you about not as big as they are today but they won the league in 68, Cup in 69 and were always near the top during the Bell, Summerbee and co years
Villa crushed Burnley away...same again with their last home game of the season please...make the fans go home happy
To supplement what Dave stated,Young Cloughie's Jayne Mansfield will play Swindon or Port Vale in the L2 playoff final. Port Vale take the lead vs Swindon and now Desmond on agg. Former Un item player , James Wilson with the goal
Yeah - I would say that this is the biggest since United. Although you can't forget our relegation in the Noughties.
Again, Palace aren't on the beach!!
United will get walloped by them on Sunday if they pressure United at all
I guess Citeh's relegations were second to United in 1974 unless the Toon in 2008 and 2016 were second or do they get the bronze medal for that?
You're right, Dave - I'm happy to see that. I'm hoping the same is true of Villa and Newcastle when they play Burnley.
Very true about Leeds
When were you down? 80s?
Top flight for the whole 90s? With a league title....CHEATS
Leeds relegated in 1982 and 2004. We should do a thread on that subject.. Sound like a plan
If Everton went down, they would come straight back up.
Palace seem untroubled early doors while Toffees running around like cock roaches sprayed with raid
Oh - Zaha nearly played his mate Mateta in there. Promising.
It would depend upon whether the Toffees can keep their players or if they decide to clean house and go with a youth team. If the Toffees can keep their players they should go back up easily, but I wouldn't expect Rich Arlison and Picks to stay
Free kick to Toffees in the Palace D
I was about to change channels but Richarlison wins a free kick in a dangerous area.
They're off from Villa Park.
COME ON VILLA
Oh - grazes the post. Phew!
Encouraging for Bob is that Steve G takes every match seriously . Stef ie G won't allow an early vacation
Decent effort by Richie...off the bar
OH! Free kick from Rich Arlison clips the top of the bar
oooh....how did no one get on the end of that ball inside the six!
Kevin Long heads out for a Villa corner
Villa starting quickly...keep it up...score three early!!
I'm over on The Cock for the match at Villa Park now - come on, the Villans!
Of course, all the Everton fans will cheer a Villa goal
Agreed, and Leeds fans too
That's what I want, Dave. If Burnley lose both matches, it's all academic. We'll be safe because of that last gasp equalizer against Brighton.
All Villa pressure so far - I luv it!
Burnley will Digne in on a corner conceded by Luca from the second floor
Oh - McNeil was nearly in there.
Nasty elbow there from Barnes on Mings. Should be a red card. VAR checking it.
VAR checked for an elbow...nothing given
GOAL TO PALACE
WAY HAY! EZE DOES IT AS MATETA HEADS IN THE WELL FLOATED IN FREE KICK
VAR check is complete and Ashley Barnes is a lucky boy.
Wahay! That's fantastic news! Just need a Villa goal now.
Foxes take the lead at SB in basically a meaningless game. Goal; all the way from Maddison avenue
Eze does it, Bob. BOOM BOOM!
A Villa goal is more important.... Burnley are the team that could mean Leeds need nowt at Brentford
Agreed, Dave. The match at Villa Park is the more important of the two
Absolutely, mate. Eze peasy.
Oh - and Chelsea have conceded to Leicester. Lovely jubbly.
Oh why oh why did Everton beat United and Cheslea!!
And us! They beat us 3-0 at Goodison!
Oh - Buendia nearly in there. Wins a corner.
I think this is the closest the Toffees have come top being relegated since the late 90s when they had to win the last match of the season to stay up and defeated Wimbledon 3-2 Where I think there were a couple of goalkeeping errors
Michale Keane heads out a teasing cross from Zaha for a Palace corner
The Guardian reporter is saying that Everton are really nervous now while Palace are enjoying themselves.
Eze does it as the Palace corner was basically a pass to Picks
I agree with the Guardian
Matty Cashes in on a block by Charlie Taylor for a Villa corner
OH Nick Pope does well to turn around a shot from John McGinn off the corner
Cash wins a corner. Come on, now - one off Ming the Merciless' head.
Oh great save by Nick Pope from McGinn's curler.
Will Hughes booked for a foul. Toffees free kick
Toffees players and coaching staff going bonkers over a minor foul from Ayew. A booking , but the announcers wanting controversy
Looking at the replay now I see why it could have been a red. Scissors foul by Ayew on Flash Gordon, but I think the ref got it right
TWO NIL PALACE!!!
Almost a red....and then a goal for Ayew!
WAY HAY1 JORDAN AYEW POUTS PALOACE TWO UPO . A COMEDY OF ERRORS BY THE TOFFEES ON A PALACE COUNTER
In the League Two playoff semi-final, it’s Port Vale 1-0 Swindon (agg: 2-2). James Wilson has scored for Vale, as he did in the away leg.
Wahay! I'm luving that. We just need a goal here at Villa Park for the hosts and I'll be an extremely happy chappy tonight.
Coleman failed to cut the mustard as Mateta picked his pocket then two goalkeeping errors by Pickford then Jordan Ayew walked the ball in the back of the net from a yard out
Such a shame Leeds weren't ahead the Toffees
Leeds have dropped into the zone as Burnley kicked off
James Wilson showing what he learned at the MUFC Academy
Agreed, Dave. I think the results vs the top six are the difference between the teams. All this after the Toffees started the season so well.
Come on Villa!!
A question for Bob and Dave., Have Toffees supporters in advertyently made thin gs worse for the Toffees with the cauldron of an atmosphere?
Just one goal would mean Burnley would have to come out and score...floodgates?
Shot from Gomes Addams easily saved by Jack Butland
Good question. Well....the team started really on Sunday...I think...because of the crowd
Matty didn't Cash in as his near post upper 90 shot pushed around by Nick Pope
Spurs could finish up ahead of Chelsea
Sadly, both Spurs and Chelsea play the two relegated sides
Thanks, Dave .Did the Toffees lose the plot because of the atmosphere? I don't know because I was on the road
That's right - one Villa goal would put us back in charge. All we would need to do on the last day would be to match Burnley's efforts. We could also rely on some help from the Gunners against Everton.
Agreed, Dave. I feel for Steve. as the Gunners look resigned to an EL spot, but the future looks bright for the Gunners who improved this season
I'm sure Steve would love to see the Gunners stick it to Lamps. I think the Gunners once beat the Toffees 7-0 when Moyes was in charge of the Toffees. A repeat would do nicely along with a Villa win tonight
Villa need to stop the bloody short corners....put in the box!
Not happy about these short corners.
Oh - Buendia had a free header! Put it over.
Everton only is in the picture if Leeds get anything at Brentford. If Leeds lose, they are safe!
A Barber Shop Quarete off stoppage time minutes at Goodsin Park where the Toffees fans are singing the Blues
Bloody hell....knock it off Pope
Just let it in!
Oh - another great save by Pope from McGinn!
OH ! Great save by Nick Pope off a half volley from McGinn
Of course, Villa Park has Claret and Blue on all four sides of teh ground
Useless corner...again
Pope and Ramsdale deserve to start for England more than Picks. Just my opinion
I agree, Dave - is he auditioning for a move?
Claret and Blue didn't work well for Scunny. Hope the same is true for Burnley
Everton want a pen... off the knee...nothing given
Oh - Chambers had a chance from the short corner routine. Got under it.
Chewbakka fouls Josh on the Brown Hill as Palace is two up at the half
The last time Everton were in a perilous position... mid 90s... 2-0 down at home to Coventry and going down....they won 3-2 and survived
Marcos Alonso has leveled it for Chelsea.
Not happy with Villa's display going forward....get your fingers out
Olly Watkins fails to Cash in with a free header off a cross from Matty as he heads well over.
Rubbish header from Watkins - Cash's cross deserved better.
Thanks for the clarification, Dave. I thought it was against Wimbledon, but it must be the sky blues.
I agree, Dave - it's been all Villa pressure but they're missing the guile of a Coutinho.
We were supposed to go last night but it was cancelled for Covid reason but we were rescheduled for tonight .... Kathy and I are going to see my favorite musical...My Fair Lady at Proctors in Schenectady
Is he being rested to play 'for' Liverpool?
Will Gerrard win the Premier League for Liverpool
That was a stupid push...free kick chance for Burnley
Naughty by Buendia on Charlie Taylor
Free kick comes to nothing
Buendia fouls Charlie Taylor and now the Burnley boys can come up.
Hope you and Kathy enjoy the play. Elizabeth and I went to a musicians showcase at the local theater the day before Mother's Day
Great question, Dave. In 2014 Stevie G virtually won the league for Citeh with that famous slip. Interesting final day of the season on Sunday
Really cynical stuff from Burnley. They're just playing for a point.
Villa Park sound pretty quite...come on fans...this is the last time you will see your beloved this season
Stupid foul by Ayew but the media ALWAYS want red cards
Everything is bouncing off Watkins like he's made of stone.
BUGGER! POENALTY TO BURNLEY AS BUENDIA BRINGS DOWN THE CORONET
Burnley have the right to play like that
Again....Everton could be already safe
BUGGER HELL...penalty to Burnley
SAME STUPID CHALLENGE BY BUENDIA
Oh bugger! Burnley have a penalty!
Players are morons!!
What was Buendia thinking? This could send us down.
Come on, Emi!
Second penalty of the season for Burnley...missed their other one vs WH.... up he comes....Bugger....one nil
BUGHGER! ASHLEY BARNES PLACES IT IN THE CORNER SENDING MARTINEZ THE WRONG WAY. SORRY, BOB
Come on Gerrard...what kind of manager are you?
Ashley Barnes converts and we're in real trouble. We need Villa to score two.
You beat this lot 3-0!!!
Leeds in the final drop spot. Toffees a point ahead and Burnley two pints clear. As things stand must win for Leeds at the Bees on Sunday and hoping other results go their way
Leeds will now need to win at Brentford...and Everton would go down
HT
Still time
Burnley on up at the half. Stevie G needs to rattle some teapots at the half
As it stands, we would need a win against Brentford on Sunday and some help from Arsenal.
Yes, still time but Villa need to pull their fingers out.
A shame it's not two points for a win because the Toffees would currently be in the relegation spot
Chelsea 1 Leicester 1 at half time
There second half its underway from Goodison Park.
COME ON PALACE!
If it finishes a draw at SB Chelsea all but third. Hard to see an eighteen goal swing on Sunday
Holgate clears for a Palace corner
Atrocious corner as Eze does it
Eze almost in....no pen given
Eze does it as he goes on a solo run, going past several Toffees then stopped by a last ditch tackle.
Delle sandwiches Schlupp as he went for the knockout punch like Alli
Andersen called for going Delle Alli close to the knockout punch. Not as Fairy Tale call on him
Bugger...goal for Everton
BUGGER! Michale keane pulls one back for the Toffees off the free kick
Long free kick headed back by Mason Holgate and a nice finish by Michael Keane. Poor defending from Palace off the free kick
Nice sweeper keeping by Jack Butland off a Toffees long ball.
Will Hughes called for a Palace foul.
MARK THEM UP!
I'm just back in my chair after a half-time break and I'm not happy about that Everton goal.
Second half underway from Villa Park as Palace make a defensive change. Milovojevic on for Will Hughes
We're away again at Villa Park again. Come on, you Villans!
Jordan Ayew gifts the Toffees a corner
Palace at the Gladys Street end playing like Gladys
YES....VILLA TIES IT UP!!!
WAY HAY ! BUENDIA TIES IT UP FOR VILLA MAKING UP FOR HIS ERROR FOR THE PENALTY
Yes! Emi Buendia redeems himself! Great finish that Pope couldn't keep out!
Unusual error from Nick Pope . Buendia passed win right to McGinn and his cross was volleyed in by Buendia off the chest of Nick Pope
Now then - Villa have the bit between their teeth. Let's go!
Very tight for the last drop spot. Toffees a point ahead of Leeds and Burnley
Agreed.
COME ON VILLA LET'S WIN IT !
VAR check on that Tarkowski off the ball incident. Nothing given.
OH! Pickford does well to turn around a shot from Mateta off a pass from Eze
Oh - McGinn nearly played in Jacob Ramsey there.
Kevin Long fouls Olly Watkins bear the corner flag., Booked for that
I hear that Everton are trying to push their luck and Palace are trying to hit them on the break.
Michael Keane booked for a late foul on Mateta
Wasted free kick by McGinn
That's correct, Bob
What a waste of a free kick from McGinn.
Zaha booked for a foul; on Delle Alli after he won a good tackle
Looks like Bertrand Traore is being readied to come on.
Come on Villa
Come on Villa
Come on Villa
Marc Gueye down after tackling DCL for a Toffees corner. Now back up
Jack Butland conmfp0rtably saves a shot from Doucourre from just outside the box
DCL goal vs Bees first since August 28th. Far worse season than last season
Watkins is hopeless. Goes down looking for something. Referee wasn't conned
Connor Gallagher on for Jeff Schlupp as a long range shot from Matty hit the seats where not much Cash is required
There is really no difference between an Everton draw or loss for Leeds. The only way Leeds can catch them is to win at Brentford
Why can't Villa bring on Ronaldo right about now?
DCL doing is best to impersonate Watkins
Bloody Hell...DESMOND
That is true - that's why the Villa v. Burnley match is more important.
