THE PREMIER LEAGUE STARTS HERE!!!
HERE WE GO
HERE WE GO
HERE WE GO
So, an early start to the new season. Sadly, we pretty much all know who will win it...but...will there be surprise? Can Areteta and Conte have North London be in contention for the title. Will Chelsea survive the end of the Roman Era? Can ETH start a new dynasty at OT?
How will the newbies fare? Will they all go down again? Forest(3rd) are favorites of the three to survive.
Will Leeds and Everton keep safe this season after last season's exploits?
It all starts today with a London derby at Selhurst Park as the Eagles host the Gunners. One of the few games ALL WEEKEND that NBC actually puts on the telly!!!(Poor Form)
Wish I was with the Dahlgren Clan at the Cottage watching with them but at least we have LOB.
Join me,
UWS

USA coverage starts
Only TWO of ten matches on the opening weekend on the telly....I hoped Becky would have apologized but she didn't
Where did Arlo go?
Just read...went off to LIV golf for millions.
Good riddance
I hate the Five Subs rule...it only helps the big sides. They complain they have so many games...it is because you are successful!
The top teams can change half of their starting line up during a match with no drop in quality
Unfair in my book
Crystal Palace (possible 4-3-3) Guaita; Clyne, Guehi, Andersen, Mitchell; Schlupp, Doucoure, Eze; Ayew, Edouard, Zaha.
Substitutes: Johnstone, Ward, Milivojevic, Mateta, Hughes, Ebiowei, Richards, Riedewald, Plange.
Arsenal (possible 4-2-3-1) Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Partey, Xhaka; Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli; Jesus.
Substitutes: Turner, Tierney, Holding, Cedric, Lokonga, Elneny, Nketiah, Pepe, Nelson.
Referee Anthony Taylor.
Afternoon, Dave! Thanks for getting us started this season. We've just finished up a lovely lunch and are settling in. I can't wait!
I'm just fine with Peter Dreary on the mic for the coverage this season. He's a familiar voice.
Welcome Bob and Steve and Kate and of course M&M!!!
The M&Ms are particularly fussy this afternoon. They've been banished to the Pack 'n Play.
Well...they know Leeds aren't on the docket!!
Good Afternoon, Bob and Dave. Here to join you for the start of the Prem season
Great post, Dave. Thanks for getting us started.
Afternoon David
Here we go
I know this match is one of the televised matches. I think the other one is the late one tomorrow. Am I correct? I hate the five sub rule too. It's bloody ridiculous.
Yup....that is it!!!
RUBBISH....where's the big season opening!!
Will this be the norm?
Is Steve spending time with the twins? Will he still once the match kicks off?
Sadly I think it will be the norm. At 10 AM I may have one match on the ROKU and one on the computer
Steve's been great in helping out over the past week, but we're both taking a break for the match.
Well done to you and Steve. Glad you both will be able to focus in on the matches. Tomorrow will be the first full day of matches with the twins
I will need to set an alarm for the matches tomorrow as I have been sleeping until 8:30 to 9 on average. It will be a slight adjustment
I haven't been sleeping well recently so I will probably be up but if I happen to be getting some sleep...I won't interrupt it
Sorry, Dave - I hope that you get some kip at some point. I could use a nap as well.
In terms of first touchline fight , Tommy Tuchel vs Lamps tomorrow and Tommy Tuchel vs Antonio County next weekend . I opted for Tuchel vs Conte for first touchline fight/spat. It was a tough call to make
I second that . Some extra kip will definitely help.
Robbie Earle with the day off . I guess he will be around tomorrow
I'm surprised Wolves is eighth favorites to go down. They should be around tenth place.
Brum takes the lead vs the Terriers
I expect Wolves to survive but to slip down to the bottom half. They've been quiet over the summer.
That's a good point, Bob. I haven't kept up with all the Summer activity, but did enough research to see who stood out on both ends of the table.
Here we go then - teams coming not.
Nice start to NBC coverage....they join at SP and all you hear is the crowd sining...
What the f**
What the f**k
What the f**king hell was that.....classic
This is Palace's tenth consecutive season in the Prem. Who would have predicted that?
Palace fans singing "Bad All Over."
Agreed, Dave. Nice lyrics
I have never been to SP....which is very surprising. It was very close to my aunt and uncle's house in Sydenham.
I know by brother went there and forevermore thought David Swindlehurst was rubbish!!
Pass on my best to Steve and his Gunners
I do have one complaint about Drury.... you don't have to always just hell the shooters name as he is about to swing his leg...be more creative
WE ARE OFF!!!
Arsenal's kit is copying one of Leeds last season
I know I picked Saka to score the first of the season
Who did you guys pick?
I didn't hear about Benteke....where did he go in the MLS?
Great run by Jesus....how did Arsenal not score there!!!
The season started....where did you all go??
Good start for Arsenal
Here's what people have predicted for the first scorer in the Prem:
Bukayo Saka - AZ Kicker, MOT, UWS,
Wilf Zaha - Bee's Knees, Someone Said
Gabby Jesus - Blue Devil, Gooner, MUR, Red Devil, Red Dragon, oticoN, Swansong, Teddy,
Michail Antonio - West Ham Rising
Very good start - Palace really on the rack. Great stuff from Gabby Jesus and Martinelli should have tucked it in. Big miss!
Thank you
You're there!!
Where's David!!
I'm back. Sorry about that. The electricity went out just before kickoff then came right back on. The telly took five minutes to reboot then Jacquelyn rebooted the WIFI
Did I miss much?
Well, Arsenal have had a very lively start, with Gabby Jesus looking especially bright.
What timing!!
Welcome back!
All Arsenal....could be two up!!
Thanks Dave. I saw a couple of blocked shots. It looks like complete dominance by the men in pink early doors
Arsenal continue to dominate possession. Palace haven’t been able to threaten on the break, which is usually a strength, and at the moment it feels like a matter of time before Arsenal score.
I sure hope Jesus gives the Gunners the lead.
That would be useful, yes.
Palace have been Bad All over the pitch early doors. Sorry, Dave . I couldn't resist.
Palace look like the Lancers did when facing the English teams. Not able to get a touch on the ball.
Naughty by Doucourre on Martinelli.
Jesus win a Gunners corner
I was thinking, "Sad All Over."
Arsenal take the lead!!!
Martinelli?
GOAL! MARTINELLI GIVES THE GUNNERS THE LEAD FROM THE CORNER. POOR DEFENDING BY PALACE.
No one picked him....who will get the first in our pod?
Zinny wide open from the corner and headed across then headed in by Martinelli
GOAL! Great training pitch move from the corner, through Zinchenko, who nodded back across for Martinelli to make amends.
0-1 Gunners!
Macy and Maddox must have been thinking that Zinny was in timeout, he was so far apart from a Palace player
So, it's two points if it's the actual first goalscorer and one point for the first scorer in the pool.
LOL! Nice one, David!
Did Uncle Stevie drop Maddox or Macy when they scored?
Hoping Jesus will be the first scorer from our pod despite only getting a solitary point.
Stats break for Dave: Arsenal have had 66 per cent of the possession and five shots to Palace’s none.
Cheers, Bob. Wonder if Kate would like that
No - relatively subdued celebration from Uncle Stevie here.
Nice update, Bob. Another stat is that Arsenal ahead 0.46 to nil on expected goals. I think that's more accurate than possession.
Just poking around the internet... .HT in Germany....
Frankfurt 0 Bayern Munich 5
Steve may be exhausted from babysitting duty, LOL! Must be happy with the new signings from Citeh. I'm surprised they sold Zinny.
YIKES! Not good news for Dave's birth city. Five different scorers. Bayern with only 60% possession. Less than the Gunners
Blimey - how good are Bayern?
Ramsdale nearly pressed the self-destruct button there.
Uncharacteristically poor clearance from Ramsdale off a Palace player then a Gunners defender caught in possession then Zaha wins Palace's first corner
Not sure, Bob. Are Bayern really good or is the Bundesliga really poor? I'm not certain, to be honest
Ramsdale nearly caught in possession again.
Ramsdale is being very risky.....he needs to knock it off
Bloody keepers.....think their Maradona!
Weren't Frankfurt in the latter stages of the Europa League - they're not mugs.
Agreed, Dave. Safety first
Correct . They actually won the EL beating Rangers on pens in the final. Qualified automatically for the CL despite finishing mid table
First prem goal conceded by Palace since Ziyech scored an 89th minute winner in February.
Brum two up vs the Terriers at the half. Terriers not the same team without Carlos Corberan
What is that stat David?
Do you mean at home?
I was in a diner for that Chelsea goal...loved to see it on the screens
Ben White called for a foul on Jeff Schlupp.
I don't fancy Hudders to do much this season.
Great save by Ramsdale....only negative for Arsenal is it is only 1-0.
OH! Great save by Ramsdale after two free Palace headers off the free kick
Big save by Ramsdale - made up for the earlier mishap.
Ball was closer to him than I thought....he should have made the save
agreed, Bob. I didn't pick them to go up. I picked three teams you loathe
Agreed , Dave. Gunners should be up by several and a routine save after looking at the replay
Xakha Khan booked for a poor impersonation of Greg Louganis. Anthony Taylor was not impressed.
Xhaka picks up a silly yellow for simulation there.
Many Petit in the stands. A true Gunners legend.
A minute of stoppage time
Xakha Khan referred to as stupid. Not the first time and not the last
Palace's Odd Son, Eddie, with a shot blocked for a corner
Edouard nearly strikes a late blow in this half. Deflected over the bar by Xhaka.
He still needs a haircut!!
Grow up!!
That is it for the first half
Well done Arsenal...except for scoring only one
Eze's corner cleared and the Gunners one up at the half
Half-time arrives and the Gooners are happy so far. 0-1.
We are back for the second half
The second half is underway from Selhurst Park.
Just got your text...great pic
Second year in a row that the opening Friday nighter of the season is the Gunners on the road in a London Derby
Glad you enjoyed.
Nice cross there and the Arsenal defenders almost blew it...no Palace player going for the cross
This one going slighlty better for now
Jeff Schlupp with a shot blocked for a palace corner
Martinelli the first Brazilian too score the opening goal of a Premier League Season. That would mean any English top flight season.
Great stat
Wonder how many nationalities have done it
Not many, I would think
Eza's shot well saved....should have scored again!
OH! Eze does it as Ramsdale makes a great close range block on the counter her off a gunners corner
Thanks , Dave. I'm not sure, but that's a great question. Definitely worth researching
Terriers score their first league goal of the season . Now trailing 2-1 at St. Andrews.
Just read that Benteke joined Waza and Steve in DC
Stevie happy about that one?
Drury with his screaming at the free kick
Why didn't Odegard shoot....he was passing it
1-6 in Germany
Wild one at your city of birth
Interesting signing by Wazza. I think that's a good signing.
Brother Mike was born there too....TODAY
Well....years ago today
Peter Dreary says this is the hottest Summer ever in the UK
Happy Birthday Mike and Happy Belated Birthday to you.
NBCSN fourteen seconds behind.
The match in Frankfurt has just ended. Same score as Dave just posted.
104 does wonders for the summer average
Mike is up north somewhere with JHJ for a festival tomorrow
Agreed, Dave. That temperature is hotter than our hottest ever.
Nice to see JHJ going strongly. Long may it continue.
Thanks
Ayew with a decent run but rotten cross....awful
Not sure why they are having drinkies. Is it that hot at 9:30 PM. Maybe during the day, but surely not at night.
If this score holds then Johnno could get a point if M Mickey Antonio opens the scoring in the late Sunday match, which is the last match of the weekend.
Milovoyjevic on for Doucorre.,
I think the five sub rule is due to Prem clubs complaining about this season being too long.I disagree.
Partey time?Called for a foul on Zaha on what looked a fair tackle.
It's mostly Klopp and Pep complaining....again...it is ok for them that they can change half the outfield team and not have a drop in quality
Or we would have to wait until next week from one of these two teams
Just finishing up feeding Maddox; he thinks that his formula is tastier than this second ha;f
I agree. It seems that these changes are designed to benefit those two teams.
Eddie on for Jesus. so much for those of us who picked him to score first
Welcome back, Bob. Agreed. This has been a dull second half. How does the formula taste?
I agree with you, Dave - I don't think clubs need more subs. Look at this match. Palace have used one and Arsenal now two.
TWO NIL
Saka scores for Arsenal AND me!!
GOAL ! A GREAT SAKA PLAYER PUTS THE GUNNERS TWO UP
NOPE...it is an OG
Still up for grabs
Will that be changed to a Marc Guehi OG?
GOAL! Bukayo settles it for the Gunners!
One point for AZ, MOT and UWS.
Nope - it looks like it's going to be ruled an own goal.
It's over at St. Andrews . Brum have defeated Terriers 2-1
Eighteen year old Malcolm Ebiowei , signed from the Rams, on for Eze for his Palace debut
Everyone still on zero points in the PPP. That should change by tomorrow. Actually no. I have Millwall and Burnley in the top six pending tomorrow's results.
Gunners fans chanting Viera. Is that sarcasm?
Into stoppage time
An LOB blogging trio of those minutes
Arteta with a late stoppage time sub to irk Dave. Odor Guard replaced Albert Sambi Makamba
That's it
Congrats Steve...shouldn't have this close
I'm off for a nap
Talk to you guys tomorrow
TTFN
It's over and the Gunners win 0-2 at Selhurst Park. Congratulations, Steve
Cheers, Dave. Hope you get plenty of rest . Look forward to chatting tomorrow.
Arsenal off to a winning start this season - much better than last season's disaster at Brentford.
Agreed. I think Gunners were bottom after two matches last season. Better start this year
Cheers, boys -- I'll see you in the morning.
Cheers everyone. Great chatting . Enjoy the rest of the day and look forward to chatting tomorrow.
We are in East London
I'm forever blowing bubbles
Thinking about it, Haaland would have been a good pick for scoring first
Everyone, except John, picked a scorer in the Arsenal match
Yesterday, I noticed that Drury didn't go along with the other two's jokes...hopefully that continues
