Premier League Doubleheader Sunday Opening Act Followed by the Big Show
It's an interesting Sunday with ramifications at both ends of the table, starting with the Seagulls vs Foxes and concluding with the marquee match of the weekend, United vs the Gunners. The Gunners will finish the weekend top ,no matter the result at OT while one up to fifth if they win. Join me for all the action.

Morning, David! Thanks for getting us going. Brighton have just wrapped up a rampant 5-2 victory over Leicester that solidifies their improbable position in the top four and Leicester rock bottom.
The match at the AMEX just ended and the Seagulls thrashed the Foxes 5-2. It was Desmond at the half, but somehow the Foxes collapsed in the second half after a decent first half performance. The beginning of the end for the Brodge?
You're welcome . Glad you're here to support us, but you may be neutral today, hoping for an really entertaining match
As you stated the Seagulls are fourth and the Foxes are bottom with only a solitary point , which was on opening day. now three points behind four different teams.Either United or Chelsea will end the weekend in fifth place
Some matches in the Championship today. The Reading Railroad defeated the Potters 2-1 to move up to third place, a point behind the Canaries
Tangerines one up at the half at the Terriers ,who are second from bottom, four points from safety
Evil Blades one up at the half at the KC and top a, a point ahead of the Canaries.
The team news out of OT:
Manchester United (4-2-3-1/4-3-3): De Gea; Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Malacia; McTominay, Eriksen, Fernandes; Antony, Sancho, Rashford. Subs: Heaton, Dubravka, Lindelof, Maguire, Ronaldo, Fred, Casemiro, Shaw, Elanga.
Arsenal (4-3-3): Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Lokonga, Xhaka, Odegaard; Saka, Martinelli, Jesus. Subs: Turner, Tierney, Smith Rowe, Nketiah, Holding, Cedric, Tomiyasu, Vieira, Marquinhos.
Referee: Paul Tierney (Salford)
I think that Graham Potter's team are playing above their ability right now. They're just not that good. They should be mid-table with the lack of talent they have.
Looking forward to seeing your new boys Casemiro and Antony today.
Marc Antony , who was signed from Ajax where he was one of the Ten Hag's reunited with his old boss as he makes his United debut. Being groomed to be emperor of rome?
Casemiro has made a few sub appearances. Starts on the subs bench yet again today
Good point about the Seagulls today. They look good in the second half against a poor Foxes side. They started well last season too, and like last season should finish mid table. Last season was their highest ever finish in the top flight.
Just think of it this way, which of Brighton's starters today would you swap for United's starters today? Any?
They're off from OT!
COME ON MAN UNITED!
Arsenal playing in the same kind of all black kit that we were sporting yesterday. And look what happened there.
I've always thought that Leo Trossard would be a good United player. Maybe Christian Gross and Robert Sanchez too. Those are three that make that side tick and basically responsible for the Seagulls being so high up in the table. Take away those three players and the match vs the Foxes would have been relegation six pointer
United straight on the front foot and then Jesus breaks.
Not a fan of the black kits. Too Gen Z for my liking
But would you swap Sanchez for De Gea? Or Trossard for Ronaldo?
Poor free kick from Zinny headed away by the first man
Sanchez for De Gea would be a horizontal move IMHO. Ronaldo doesn't even start so I might swap him for the much younger Trossard.Ronaldo has looked off the pace, but not Trossard. I would take him more than any other Seagull. Trossard a definite. Gross and Sanchez are maybes
Gabriel not signing Sledge Hammer to Bruno as his compatriot, Jesus , went down.Is up and okay to continue as play resumes
OH! Eriksen volleys into the side netting off a cross from Dalot. Best United move of the match
Oh - Saliba should have scored there - big chance!
Evil Blades go two up at the KC and look to finish the weekend top of the Championship
Ramsdale pushes away a shot from Sancho
And just like that, Martinelli breaks forward and scores. Sorry, mate.
BUGGER!MARTINELLI GIVES THE GUNNERS THE LEAD! ERIKSEN TOO EASILY TACKLED IN MIDFIELD AND THE GUNNERS BROKE
VAR check on a foul on Eriksen.
Do I smell a foul by Odor Guard on dirksen. May be called back. VAR checking. I think it will be disallowed
Paul Tierney to the m monitor which means it will be disallowed
Paul Tierney going to the screen - it will be overturned.
PHEW! It's disallowed
And it is. We're back to square one.
Steve must be livid. Cursing in the Streets of Alex?
I'll take all square as the final result which would be the first draw of the Ten Hag era
Just to let you know I smelled that foul by Odor Guard before they showed the replay
Hey Boys
I am home
Ben White wins a corner off of Eriksen after Varane was caught faffing about
Good morning, Dave. Glad you're here for the big match
Don't like Dixon on the mic...not very biased!
Im ignoring the smelling pun btw
In terms of your VAR text, the Seagulls really should have won 6-2. Their opponents did the Fox Trot in the second half rather than play football.
I guess you think that pun stinks.
When is Casermero going to get a game?
Well wide by Roman Emperor, Marc Antony
He has had several cameos as a sub. I'm surprised he's not starting, but I guess United have done fine without him the past three matches
Welcome, Gary Player. How's your day going? ;-)
Dod you get any birdies or Eagles, or did you have some bogeys?
Saliba booked for a foul on Sancho
Bruno down for United . Went down rather easily . Typical.
That was not a red of VVD didn't get one
United haven't done a thing since I've been watching!
Near post kick save by De Gea from Martinelli for a Gunners corner
United sitting back!!
ATTACK
Before you arrived Ramsdale pushed away a shot from Sancho and Eriksen volleyed into he side netting. Nothing much since then other then the disallowed goal
United fans starting to get frustrated with all of this Arsenal pressure.
Oh - great save by De Gea!
Tangerines win 0-1 at the Terriers, who remain second from bottom. a long way from the playoff final in May
Was that Rash who tried a stupid flick on!!!
Great save from De Gea
Arsenal deserve the lead!
Evil Blades win 0-2 at the KC and are top of the Championship, a point ahead of the Canaries
Not sure about Antony's neck tattoo look.
United broke then ended up slow and passing back
Geez....United can break...never get the ball into the box and then it goes to DeGea
ANTONY!!!!!
GOAL! New boy Antony scores!
WAY HAY! ANTONY GIVES UNITED THE LEAD ON HIS DEBUT
A little undeserved!
A little too much with the commentary
Gabriel was a Sledge Hammer, fouling Bruno in the build up . Two passes later , Rash put through Antony , who finished well from a narrow angle.
It is always great to have a new signing score early on.... The Gary Birtles Syndrome !
United ow up to fifth place. If they win this would be four on the trot after starting the season with two losses.
LOL, Dave! It took him a tad bit of time to score for United. Hopefully not the Martial Syndrome
Is this shades of 2004?
Long run by Rash and too long as he was easily dispossessed.
United need to score more
Didn't Birtles take a year to score a league goal?
Stupid back heel from Bruno...Knock it off
Rash down for United for the second time in a minute
Nice Peter Gabriel reference, David.
Yes Birtles did. The tad bit of time was a humorous reference to that. I think his first goal was in a 1-0 in vs the Swans
From the Beeb
The difference between Jesus and Rashford as number 9's is stark. Gabriel Jesus is smart and strong, Marcus Rashford the complete opposite.
Adam in Edinburgh
Interesting because I was thinking that Jesus hold up possession, allowing players to advance. Rash not so much
I'm trying to the positive and look at the fact that we're leading the league leaders. Deserved or not , we're ahead. I do realize that there's a half of footie to play
AN LOB blogging trio of stoppage time minutes
Hit that pas McTom!!
Cheap free kick awarded to the Gunners. So much for letting play flow this season
Strange not to kick that free kick into the box
He has MCTo main poisonings g, not that I'm trying to make excuses
Decent try by Antony
Off to make lunch.
If this result holds then the top five will remain unchanged for the first time this season
Cheers, Bob. Enjoy
HT
So far so good for my lot but no where near won yet
United one up at the half thanks to a debut goal by Antony
Back for the second half at OT
No changes by either manager at the half
Come on Man U
Come on Man U
Come on Man U
United can't sit back
Welcome back, Dave. We're sitting on a fragile lead
Just to let you know that since we have Antony, Anthony will not be starting for Elanga time.
Phew..miss it by Odegard
That miss kick from Odor Guard stunk after a pass from Jesus.
Arsenal want a pen...never
Then not too far wide by a great Saka player
Agreed. They're crazy if they think that's a penalty
Not sure why Jesus is complaining at De Gea. Trying to wind him up and put him off?
United need to attack teams
Arsenal well on top
Bob said he was off for lunch. More like the big midday meal of the day with the amount time he's been gone unless M&M are keeping himb busy
cross from Saka came off the top of the bar. Not sure he meant that, but then I'm not a member of the attackers union
I thought you would be Mr. Positive, LOL! Hope I'm not arsing about too much
However, I do agree that United are sitting back too much. It's a definite concern
Free kick chance for Arsenal
Antony off for Ronaldo
Stupid foul by Malacia on Saka just outside the United box
CR 7 on for Antony , who scored on his debut. probably feeling the pace of the Prem which is much different from the Eredivisie
MY telly was mute for a few seconds
1-1....totally deserved!
Awful from United
BUGGER! SAKA TIES IT UP!
Agreed, Dave. Sad , but true
All caused by losing the ball in the midfield
I think United will lose their first ever game in the Prem after leading at half time
Totally deserved for the Gunners
United haven't tried
United coughed up the ball too easily in their own half. Several passes later a pass from Odor Guard intend for Jesus , but the ball broke for Saka who too easily scored as United were asea.
That stat is correct if the Gunners do end up winning
Rash...offside but he didn't know...and was useless. He doesn't know what to do with the ball
Back in my seat after a lovely gyro lunch. Sorry about that goal, guys.
I had no sound either before the goal
Chelsea now in fifth place just ahead of United on goal difference. United in sixth right where you said they would be
Welcome back, Bob. Sound like a tasty lunch . Thanks, Bob
Fred about to come on. A sign that Ten Hag would settle for a draw
Bob, glad you liked the Peter Gabriel comment
WAY HAY! RASH GIVES UNITED A 2-1 LEAD
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rashford!!!
I still wish he'd be back to how he used to be
GOAL! Rash bursts through and scores like the Rash of old!
2-1!
Lucky deflection I think
United got possession in their own half and a couple of passes later Brun o superbly put through Rash who finished well past Ramsdale
Fred on for Sancho...very negative
Renaisscant. Peter Drury pulling out the vocab!
Fred for Sancho as Ten HAg is willing to hold on to the lead
What about Casimero
Does Ten Hag not rate him
As much as we've complained about Rash, he's responsible for both goals. A goal and an assist
Eriksen is a big help to United!
Not sure why we signed Casemiro if he's going to sit the bench. IS there a fitness issue?
Bruno has to finish that!!
Oh - Ramsdale makes up for his mistake there by saving from Bruno.
I think he is a better version of McTom or Fred
OH! Mixup in the Gunners defense and ramsdale rushes out to superbly block from Bruno after a poor clearance to fred
Keep attacking United!
You'd think that this would be the perfect scenario to introduce Casemiro.
Ronaldo with a flick to McTom....NOT THERE!
I agree, Dave. I would give Casemiro a chance.
IAgreed, Bob. I would have put in Casemiro instead of Fred
Oh - nice turn and shot from Gabby Jesus.
United back up to fifth. If this result holds then the top five will be unchanged for the first time this season
Poor cross from CR 7 after being played down the left by Bruno
Is history reference accurate? Marc Antony singed by United auditioning to be Emperor of the Roman Empire
Three subs to come on for the Arse. Looks like Smith-Rowe, Vieira, and Nketia.
I smell a change as Emil Smith is Rowed on for Odor Guard. Not the great Viera , but a debut for Fabio Viera as he 's on for Lokonga
ANOTHER ONE...WILL IT COUNT?
WAY HAY! RASH AT THE DOUBLE AS HE GIVES UNITED A 3-1 LEAD OFF THE PASS FROM ERIKSEN
IT COUNTS!!
I thought Eriksen should have shot
It will count as Ben White played Eriksen onside and he got behind d the Gunners high line then went on a run then passed for Rash for an easy tap in
Two goals and an assist. Not too shabby from Rash
Let's be positive . United lead 3-1 W e should be pleased. This is a work in progress
Breaking news....United have a ZERO GD
Casemiro about to come on ,getting instructions from Ten Hag
That's largely due to the thrashing at the Bees. Since then four wins on the trot if United don't blow this and now up to fifth place after bing bottom that day. We're on the right track for the time being
Rash hurt?
Rash and Martinez both off...not good
Casemiro on for Rash as Ten Hag shutting up shop
Tommy Ya Sopo on for Ben White. Maguire on for the first time in several matches as he replaces Lisandro Martinez. Maguire only on when United have a decent lead late in the match
Casimero loses the ball right away!!
Maguire with a yellow immediately
The first thing Maguire does is concede a stupid free kick in a dangerous position
I hope they are both not hurt badly
Into the wall!
Fred....can't find Ronny
Bugger
Into the wall by Xakha Khan then cleared
a shame . That could have been 4-1
This is one of those matches where both managers will have area to address based on this performance
Hard to believe that United are only three points out of first place
United can't concede....just make it simple
Crazy about where United are
Two big derbies on either side of the break for United. Hosting Leeds before the break and at Citeh in the Manc Derby after the break
Maguire still looks clueless
Agreed, Dave. United just need to see this out.
Maguire is definitely the weak link on the pitch
Saka in the book
That was late
Booking is fair
Get up...stop wasting time
Gooners must be thinking how they were win the front foot, couldn't put us away and from their point of view conceded basic, cheap goals. I bet that's what Arteta is thinking
Agreed. The last thing we need is to give the Gunners extra time
After the two derbies we will have a better idea how the Ten HaAg project is doing.
United have THREE defensive middies on right now
McTomain clears a from Fabio Viera over for a late Gunners corner
4 added minutes...please let it be ho-hum
Into a Barber Shop Quartet of stoppage time . Will we be singing a victory song in that genre?
Emil Smith Rowes over a shot to run time off the clock
Halfway through stoppage time
Bruno wins a corner off of what should have been a better [ass from Fred
Long range shot from Fabio Viera straight to de Gea
YES!
UNITED WIN!
It's over and the Gunners perfect record ends as United win 3-1 and are fifth . The Gunners still top,but just a point ahead of Citeh and Spurs.Top five unchanged for the first time this season
Congrats, guys - brilliant win!
Steve should still be confident about his side!
Thanks, Bob, Greatly appreciated. Agreed about Steve. i think both of our sides will be up there this season
