Brazil vs. Ghana

After yesterday's dearth of goals and attacking football, I'm hoping that these two teams can put on a samba show and a half. Anyone else out there to join me for the party?

I am rooting for The Black Stars all the way

Hiya - I could go both ways. I just want to see a good match and a deserved winner in this one. I've been bored by Brazil but I was disgusted by the cheating that Ghana did against the U.S. the other day.

BTW, Nick and Steven were going absolutely potty yesterday about the Portuguese on World Soccer Daily yesterday. "They represent all that is wrong with the international game and need to be thrashed on Saturday." Definitely!

They missed the kickoff yesterday morning - and then tried to blame it on the feed! What cheek! Any idiot could see that Uni had no problems with "the feed."

Thannk you sir,
I can gloat that I don't have to go back until after Labor Day.
When do have to go back Robert?

Blogger United We Stand said...

He may have been on there

11:05 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Big Ron was onside there! If he'd been able to crack that one with his left peg, that would have made a hell of a goal.

11:05 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

He almost did take a pop and that would been his second card of the tourney for kicking the ball after the whistle

I won't be returning to my school next year, Dave. I've got a one-year leave of absence so that I can finish up my studies at Gainesville.

I'll be teaching two classes, supervising student teachers and doing a variety of other grad. student types of things. I've got two conference talks that I'll be doing, so I'll be plenty busy. But I couldn't keep up the full-time teaching and driving - it was killing me. Semester starts August 23rd.

Goal, great run and move

11:08 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

That's the record for Big Ron! Suicidal defending from Ghana. Why would they play them so high up the pitch?

11:09 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

That's more of what we wanted. What a start! Now do Ghana have anything to offer in response?

11:11 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I don't think Ghana have a hope

Gooner and I were talking the other day about all of the early goals in this WC. There have been a spate in the first ten minutes, very few in the middle hour and then another spate of late goals. Any explanation for this?

11:12 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I have seen that stat from ESPN many times.
I am glad with the quick starts and the good endings but there never seems to be both in the same game.
I can see Brazil ripping this defense apart

Ron was nearly off to the races again, there. They haven't learned their lesson yet.

Muntari has to watch himself. He could have had two yellows already - and he's just back from suspension.

300 yellow cards! What a nonsense.

11:16 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Adriano picks up a yellow for "simulation" when one on one with the keeper. All he needed to do was slide it to the right for Big Ron and they were 2 up. Silly boy!

11:17 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Woah, they should have scored there.
He should have passed the ball. Glad to see him carded for the dive. Let's have a few yellows for the Brazilians and some more in the quarters

11:17 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Do the Ghana know the offside rule?

11:18 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Come on, get a good cross from a free kick.
Nice shot

11:22 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Why couldn't Ghana play like this against the U.S.? They look hopeless!

Oh, that one could've flown in!

11:22 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

a couple of good chances

11:23 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I think we can beat Brazil on the day. You?

11:23 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Absolutely but things always seem to go the Brazilians' way

11:24 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Brazil remind of the Argies in 2002 - spoiled for choices, loads of depth, but with a manager that's stuck on playing conservatively and sticking with the old soldiers. I'd be more frightened if Parreira were playing people like Cicinho, Robinho and Juninho.

11:25 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

ooh, that was almost a great ball

11:26 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Just turned on Wimpleton for a few minutes. Henman is about to win a five setter.
Agassi started awful but is on track.
Henman just won

what chance did I just miss for Ghana

11:27 AM

They are looking better going forward

Blogger United We Stand said...

take a pop from the top!!!

11:28 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I love how 'Cello keeps trying to introduce the topic of '94 into every conversation and Dave O'B clearly wasn't watching back then.

Oh, Amoah should've buried that. They're getting closer.

11:28 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

The chance that you missed was a nice through ball to Amoah that he just couldn't catch up - he's looking dangerous.

11:29 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

He even said no to Cello about US v Colombia

11:29 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Brazil are looking shakey

11:30 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Both teams clearly missed out on the defensive part of their basic training. This is schoolboy stuff.

11:30 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, O'Brien is thinking, "Colombia? That backwater in South America - how could that be an upset?" But 'Cello is right - it was a big upset - but it was TWELVE YEARS AGO! Time for him to move on.

11:32 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Ghanaians picking up loads of yellows - we could see some players going off here.

11:33 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

They are having their chances.
This is end to end at the moment.
Attack the Brazilians. TAKE NOT SVEN!!!

11:34 AM

Free kick for Ronaldinho....high, wide and 'orrible! Who said that, Dave? When? and who was he talking about?

11:42 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I agree with you.
No team, apart from Germany, have improved or impressed. The Argies looked good at first and now not so good. The Brazilians aren't that good.
We have no one to fear.
Spain?

11:43 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

"The shin guard protect the front of your shin not the side."
ISN'T THE SHIN IN THE FRONT!!!

11:44 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Well, it'll be either Spain or Brazil in the semis - either one will be tough, I reckon. But I'll be pulling for France today. I definitely have no fear of them. We wouldn't get the Argies or Germany until the final. Love to see Germany knock them out and get them in the Final. Classico!

11:45 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

This game should be 1-1 at this point. Brazil has taken its foot off the gas ever since scoring and should've given one up there.

11:46 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I would've thought that the shin was in the front, but I'm no Science teacher, Dave?

"High, wide and 'orrible." Who said it? When? About whom?

11:47 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Juan into the book now. Free kick just over the bar from Appiah. That save from Dida kept them in it.

11:48 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

GOAL: 2-0 Brazil; Jammy goal; decent build-up, but Adriano was miles offside and basically kneed it over the line. Good time to score. That might just kill the game off.

11:50 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Second half starting...no changes; this shows the lack of depth for Ghana. Shame. If one of those had gone in to equalize and Adriano had been called back for offside, we'd have a better match here.

Gyan yellow carded for petulantly kicking the ball away.

12:11 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Ghana really pushing this, as they should, and the Brazilian defense looking frail. I've never seen Brazil play the holding out/quick break game before. Amazing. Parreira has ruined these boys. They usually play a possession game even if things aren't clicking. These boys can be taken by a better side. Maybe Spain?

12:18 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Apparently the Ghana coach got red-carded at half time for protesting the second Brazil goal too vociferously.

12:22 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Whistles from the crowd for the Brazilians. This is not the Jogo Bonito that those Nike ads promised. Very negative. But ominously, they have kept Ghana out and have only conceded that one goal against Japan in four games.

Gyan has another go, but straight at Dida.

12:41 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

And now Gyan has gone off for a second yellow for an outrageous dive. That's curtains for Ghana.

12:43 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

GOAL: 3-0 Brazil. Ze Roberto; this is a bit sad, now. Harsh for the Ghana team, who have been the better side for long stretches today and but for some bad defensive choices and a refereeing blunder (again!) might still be in this game.

12:48 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Full-time: 3-0; Very flattering to Brazil. They can be beaten by a team with more depth and less naivete on the defensive side.

I'll be back in a few hours for the France vs. Spain match-up, which I'm very much looking forward to.
