Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Switzerland vs. Ukraine

This is the weakest game of the round, so I'll be doing some work while this is on in the background. I'm tuning in mainly in the hope that my pick for Golden Boot - Sheva - gets a hatful today against a Swiss backline missing Philippe Senderos, who dislocated his shoulder in the last match. Come on, Sheva!

The Dahlgren family thanks you for your business!

Ten minutes gone and this is predictably competitive without being interesting. Sheva hasn't had a sniff yet - rats!

First chance to see the young Gooner Djourou, who looks a good prospect but won't be shifting Eboue out of the line-up anytime soon.

The "Mexican Wave" - the official indication that this match is a bore has started. I was happy to see that when the Ecuadoran fans started it up yesterday, the England fans just stayed in their seats, as if to say, "I'm doing that bollocks." I hate that crap too.

Very unlucky

Oh, Sheva nearly had one there. A header off the crossbar. He's on two before today and it would be lovely to see him get a hat-trick today.

Oh, Frei off the crossbar from that free kick. Nice effort. I didn't rate him before this WC but he's changed my mind a bit.

Why do you want Sheva to score... do you have him for the golden boot?

We tied 3-3.
I didn't score. I PLAYED LIKE CRAP!!!!
We have seven games per season. One season in the Spring and one in the Fall.
I have scored 12 and 14 the previous two seasons. This season TWO!!!!
A guy on our team was in Germany for some of the games and he bought one of the real balls. We played with it on Sunday. Boy was it lively!! It had a big bounce and it really moved in the air.

Hey guys, I lost Internet service there for a while. Not much happening in this match. My hope for a ton of Sheva goals has been in vain.

Blubber Boy is Greggie. Haven't heard anything from the lad.

Thanks for the invitation, Trev. Afraid I can't do it right now, but you'll be seeing me in December. A paper of mine has just been accepted to the College and University Faculty Assembly conference. Looking forward to it.

Surely a penalty there for Ukraine. The defenders were all over Veronin.

Of course, you have to pay

Pay for what, Dave?

Classic bit of commentary there:

Harkes: "It's been awful for the past half an hour."

JP: "Get ready for another thirty minutes."

Full-time: 0-0. This is pure Ambien material.

Rebrov has finally replaced the hopeless Veronin. Sergei scored a corker the other day in their 4-0 demolition of the Saudis. I don't know why he doesn't start?

Referee is not giving out too many cards today; you reckon Sepp's been on the phone?

This one looks like it's going all the way to penalties and only the most committed fans will give a toss who wins. Can I count the penalty that Sheva knocks in toward the Golden Goal count?

I am off to work.
I was telling Sir Trev to pay for me and you to go to DC

Ah.....enjoy work!

A chorus of boos as the teams switch sides to play out the last fifteen minutes before the inevitable penalty kick shoot-out.

You know it's dull when John "Square Ball" Harkes is complaining about the negativity of the two sides.

The Swiss finishing the stronger of the two. Strella had a good half-chance blocked a moment ago.

They've taken Frei out just now - he must not fancy a penalty. I don't blame him.

Well, that penalty shoot-out says it all about this match. Seven penalties taken, four missed - including all three for the Swiss. Neither side really deserves to be in the Quarterfinals, but Ukraine are moving on to a match on Friday with Italy.

Oh, and Sheva even had the nerve to miss his penalty - what a bugger!

this was the worst match. i buzzed through the second half of extra time because i knew that neither team were up for winning this one with a goal.

too right that vorobin was terrible. what a loser. and i would love to know that sheva will play that badly against us when we meet them. him trying to collect the ball off of our midfield suits me just fine.

the penalty-taking was simply awful. how can the swiss not score even 1 penalty in the end?

uhhhgghh! lousy game.

Do you feel for the Swiss?
They didn't let one goal in during the whole tournament and they are going home!!
