Ban Italy Now!
You're looking at the latest evidence that Italian football is out of control. In the past year we've seen Italy's top clubs involved in a match-fixing scandal, police killed in fan violence, players and fans using fascist slogans and gestures and now police violence against visiting fans. According to all reliable reports, Rome police attacked United fans on the way to the ground last night and then waded into them with full baton charges during the match. There's only one conclusion to be made here - UEFA should pull their fingers out and ban Italian clubs from European competition for five years.

I'm kind of surprised by the deafening silence on this issue on the blog. There has been a lot of discussion on footie sites this week. Some go as far as I do, others put equal blame on United fans - unfairly, I'd say - and most are somewhere in the middle, urging that Roma have to play its games behind closed doors.
That to me is a moot point as I fully expect that Roma and Milan - the only two Italian clubs left in the competition - will be knocked out by United and Bayern next week.
The most compelling argument I heard this week is that a long ban - similar to what English clubs had levied against them in the 80s - would actually be good for Italian footie. It would force the Italian FA to clean up its act. The clubs would have to set up proper facilities, break up the Ultras that run the terraces now and stamp out the corruption.
What do you lot reckon?
