United's backline looks a wee bit shaky without Vidic and the Neviller in there - Rio, O'Shea, Heinze and the 'orrible Orange. They'll have to be good to keep out Roma tonight.

2:36 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

They've just mentioned that Roon hasn't scored in the Champions League since 2004! Given that he hasn't scored for England in a competitive international since Euro 2004, what the hell has he been doing for the last three years!

2:38 PM

Roma are going for an early strike, earning a corner in the first few seconds of the match. United will have to whether the storm in the early going.

2:47 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

A complete bollix by O'Shea nearly let Roma in there. Pull your finger out, lad!

2:49 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Tommy Smyth is right for once - ManYoo are completely under siege here. Dangerous free kick to come....

Totti to take and.....it goes wide.

2:51 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

VDS was completely beaten there, just standing and praying but fortunately it was just to the right. Whew!

2:51 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

The first decent attack for United and its through Skippy of course, attacking the fullback and squaring a decent ball to Roon, who fluffs his shot.

2:59 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Another bad foul by Scholes right on the edge of the box. I think the United midfield is desperate to help out the back four and are committing fouls in bad areas.

Totti again....and its straight through the wall and collected by VDS.

3:00 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Scholesy is having a shocker today. That ball was so overhit that O'Shea didn't have a chance of getting to it.

3:02 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Another decent chance for United. Roon is put through on the left, but his cross is to no one in particular.

3:03 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Roon is nearly in there from an excellent Michael Carrick ball, but Doni collects. United starting to come into this one.

3:07 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Another dangerous free kick here for Roma, this time indirect.

It'll be nicked to Totti and.....he strikes it into the wall.

3:10 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Another clumsy challenge by Scholes - he's a lucky boy not to be in the book.

3:11 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Twenty five minutes - Still 0-0.

3:12 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Scholes has been begging for a booking and not he's got his wish. He's now out of the Old Trafford second leg. What a silly billy.

3:12 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

A bit of United pressure here. A free kick swung in wins a corner. Giggs to take.

Hi, I am at home
How have United looked?
It sounds like Roma have been domintating.
I saw Schole idiotic tackle.
This is what the Beeb says,
2011: Paul Scholes goes through the back of Christian Wilhelmsson and gets a deserved yellow card, which means he will miss the second leg. Silly Scholesy. He's some player, but as my gran would have said - he can't tackle for toffee.

Chelsea have just fallen behind

Cricket update
Sri Lanka 235
England 82-2 after 22 overs
Both openers went for pittance

3:20 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Scholes is OFF
Should he have gone?

3:20 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

And now Scholes is in trouble again...yes, he's off! Oh dear.

3:21 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

We're screwed

How many games will he be out?
Still the one?

3:21 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What do you mean YES?

Surely you want the English time to go through

3:21 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Hey Dave, Roma started off quickly and you lot were really under the cosh for the first ten minutes. Your back four doesn't look sound and Scholesy's problem is that he was having to drift back and help out. I don't know why Carrick can't tackle and track back - isn't that his bloody job! So you've been giving away silly free kicks in dangerous areas.

You had a good period for the past ten minutes but Scholesy's red card will make it really difficult.

3:22 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I thought the second yellow for Scholes was a bit harsh, but you have to know that he had several really bad fouls before his first yellow, so I just think that the ref was fed up with his ginger nonsense.

3:24 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Scholesy was already out for the return leg; this will surely mean a couple of games out, right?

I'm definitely going for United tonight. I'm always for the English in Europe. Always.

3:24 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I agree, the can't tackle for toffee tackle was only a few minutes before.

3:25 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Glad to hear it.
Your YES was for affirming the sending off not pleasure

3:25 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

England cricket update - 98 for 2 after 24 overs. They look in good shape. Ian Bell in particular is having a fine innings and closing in on his half century. Since they haven't lost too many, they can throw the bat around if the run rate drops.

3:26 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What has Fergie done, moved Solskjaer back a little? Roon?

3:26 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Looks like OGS is on the left

3:26 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Right, I did think Scholes had to go but I wasn't happy to see it. My reaction was "Oh dear." I hate all Italian teams, you know that.

3:27 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

England have it the done.
Still 136 runs needed in 25 overs

3:27 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Good, that guy deserved to be booked. He is out of the second leg

3:28 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yes, the ref does the right thing and books Perotta for a ridiculous dive. Well in, ref!

3:28 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bloody hell!!!!

Pathetic defending

3:30 PM

Oh dear, that was tragic.

What's going on now. Some argy bargy between Solksjaer and the Phantom of the Opera.

3:31 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

He had every right to go for the ball.

I thought it was Batman

3:32 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Bugger - Bell has been run out for 47. England now 101 for 3 after 25.3 overs.

3:32 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Half-time - 1-0 Roma; it could be worse. If you can eke out a 1-0 or nick a goal, you should be in decent shape for the return.

3:33 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

England have lost another wicket

Bell was run out

3:34 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Great goals from Pool, especially that header from Crouchy. Reminds me of one of my efforts.

Blogger United We Stand said...

Uh oh... from the Beeb

"United fans appeared to charge the police and the police went in. It got pretty vicious. We're about 80 yards away but it seems to have quietened down now. We've just heard a loud crash and there is smoke over there. It is very, very nasty inside this ground now. I don't know if the Roma fans started this but they are happy now as it is between the police and the United fans."
BBC Five Live commentator Alan Green

2037: We're seeing pictures of the crowd scenes and it does not make for pleasant television. One fan has blood streaming down his face and is being dragged to his feet by police. The police are wading in with batons.

3:43 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh dear, they said something earlier about how the firms had planned to meet up in the squares later in the evening. Was the bloodied fan a United or Roma fan or could you tell?

3:43 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Think it was United

3:44 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

The England cricketers need to pick up the pace again. They're now 109/3 after 29 overs.

3:44 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

They are still ok
They still have 20 overs

3:46 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yes, Pieterson is picking it up. He's got his 50.

Oh, I meant to say:

"It's great to be a Florida Gator!"

(You have to imagine me doing the "Gator Chomp" with my arms.

I was out on University Ave. celebrating with my UF brethren until 2 a.m. Monday night - magical time!

They need KP to stay around.
Freddie is up next. He is due to have a good knock. Of course, so was Michael Vaughan... quack quack

Hey, they won the title a few years ago.
I won the pool because of it

2047: Thankfully it seems as if things have calmed down at the Stadio Olimpico and we're about to kick off. Things are under way at Stamford Bridge.

"At the time of the sending off there were missiles exhcanged between fans and after the Roma goal their fans charged the United section. The police got involved with a baton charge and all hell broke loose. You had seats being thrown at the police. Most of the missiles being thrown are bottles which are being sold inside the ground. The number of riot police has probably trippled. You really don't know what is going to happen next."
A Manchester United fan inside the ground on BBC Five Live

3:54 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

How on earth are they selling bottles inside the ground! That makes no sense!

Drogba does it for Chelsea again.

Are you going to watch it on ESPN Classic at 5

3:58 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, don't tell me anymore, eh mate?

England 129 for 4 after 32 overs.

3:58 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sorry

3:59 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The score is nil nil

3:59 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I'll telling you - a 1-0 loss tonight wouldn't be terrible under the circumstances.

3:59 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

So what does "Drogba does it again" mean? He's playing for them tonight....again? He's wearing flash boots....again?

4:00 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Good stuff from Rio there. He doesn't take any mess from Totti.

4:03 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Excellent goal, but Roma were really stretched there at the back, Roon completely unmarked, good finish.

4:04 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh dear, it's gone all pear-shaped again. Roma have got a second goal, a rather scrappy affair after a bad clearance from VDS.

And England have lost a sixth wicket. They're now in deep trouble, needing a little more than 100 runs.

4:14 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

England now 147/6 after 39 overs. This is going to go down to the wire!

4:24 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Whew! Totti was millimeters away from a third goal there. I'll say it again - United will be in decent shape if they escape Rome only 2-1 down with the away goal.

4:27 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Heinze goes into the book for not moving back at the free kick. Silly card there.

4:31 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

England now 155/6 after 39 overs. Someone is steadying the ship but they need to pick up the run rate soon.

4:34 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Full time - 2-1 Roma; I think advantage goes to United but the injuries and suspensions are revealing just how thin the squad is and how lucky they've been this season not having many big injuries.
