Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Back to the Prem

Now that those two Euro 2008 qualifiers are safely out of the way, it's back to the regular business of football. First up this morning on FSC - the North London derby from Shite Fart Lane. Drop by for a chat if you can, eh?

Fantastic free kick there from young Gareth Bale and Spurs are 1-0 up. Almunia was a bit suspect there, not covering his near post but I doubt that he expected the free kick to be hit to that area.

Blogger gatorbob said...

Adebayor has already had to chances saved well by Robbo, who has seemed to have gained some confidence from the two clean sheets for England this week.

8:47 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

And ManYoo have taken the lead through a header from the defender Vidic. They're now up into second place after that slow start to the season.

Blogger gatorbob said...

Another great save from Robbo from a sharp shot from Hleb. He's back to his best. And again at the feet of Adebayor.

Blogger United We Stand said...

Phew.
United have won!!!

Top of the table at the moment.

Great free kick from Bale. United almost got him.

Arsenal have had many chances. They have to put one away soon.
Costa del Pool saved a pen in the first half. I could really do with them losing

Good morning by the way.

Congratulations again for last night.
Going strong!!!
Did I get the trivia answer correct?

8:59 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

ManYoo have beaten Everton at Goodison by that lone Vidic goal - a priceless win for Sir Alex's men. I'm sure he's enjoyed this day better than his time in Euston Station.

Typical Arsenal from the Beeb

1354: You won't believe this but Arsenal are creating a lot of chances but not scoring. I know! Unbelievable!

They rip teams apart but don't score!!
Of course, my lot have score FOUR goals all season

Blogger United We Stand said...

Off the bar from Arsenal

Blogger United We Stand said...

Are you ignoring me Robert?

9:04 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Morning, Dave. I was just posting on the trivia thread. You were spot on with Roon. He's #2 with four, all at Euro 2004, if memory serves. But not Scholesy.

I'll keep thinking

9:06 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Interesting schedule on FSC.
London derby followed by West Ham Boro and then Chelski Blackburn.
I wonder if they are going to join the game at Upton Park in progress or show it on a half hour delay!!!

I wonder what game did Setanta have? Man Utd. or Everton?

9:08 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

You mean ManYoo vs. Everton or Pompey vs. Liverpool, right? I reckon it's the former. Odd schedule to the games today, though. I prefer everyone kicking off at 3 p.m., but that's just me.

9:14 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

As the half nears, Arsenal have had the better chances but haven't converted them.

Chimbonda's just been booked for flashes an "air yellow card" at the ref. Well in, referee.

9:17 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sorry about that mistake.

I agree with you about 3 o'clock kick offs.

Did you see the schedule for Saturday October 7th.

Aston Villa v West Ham
Man Utd v Wigan

AND THAT'S IT!!
Every other game is on Sunday.
I guess we will have to concentrate on United's win and Leeds 10th win in a row!!!

9:20 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I put another comment on the trivia post

9:33 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Pompey and Costa del Pool have finished scoreless.
United's reign at the top has ended. They are second on GD.

9:39 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I've heard that there's a weekend coming up when there isn't a single Premiership 3 p.m. kickoff! What's the world coming to? I can still well remember those lazy Saturdays having a kickabout in your backyard in Worly with the BBC radio on in the background.

9:40 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

"Alexander didn't do great." Boom boom.

9:41 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What was Berba doing. Just stick it in!!
Keeper went walkabout and Berba tried to round the last defender. WHY?

9:41 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Fantastic defending there from Toure. But Almunia was playing silly buggers again. There's no way he's an adequate replacement for Mad Jens.

9:42 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Great Memories

Blogger United We Stand said...

What a miss from Adebayor

9:43 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I would've stuck that one away.

9:44 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Well, let's not go overboard!!!

9:45 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

It's kind of odd being down here in the Swamp on a big game day. I spend the morning enjoying the FSC and then I go out in the afternoon and the whole universe is wearing orange and blue clothing and I think, "what's this all about!" I'm actually going to a game party today; it's the only time that I pay any attention to the gridiron.

9:46 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sounds like fun.
Shame I hate the Gators

9:50 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I really like Tom Huddlestone. You?

9:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I think he fifty times better than Jenas

9:51 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Why would you hate the Gators?! We don't even play anyone close to you! It's all SEC teams.

9:52 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Speaking of Hud should have scored

9:52 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

What's all the argy bargy between Almunia and Huddlestone there?

9:53 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

This game is getting chippy

9:54 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bugger, something happens in this match. FSC are behind.
SHOW IT LIVE!!!

9:55 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

There it is.
Good goal by the Arse

9:55 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh dear, Robbo was gaining some confidence back but he's thrown that one away. He should've stayed on his line and he got nowhere near that cross.

9:57 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Robbie Keane will want that chance back. Bale's off for Aaron Lennon - good to see him fit again.

10:00 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Spurs have had their chances but I only see one winner... they're wearing red

10:01 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, I agree. They're playing some scintillating stuff now. I really thought that Cesc was going to score there.

10:02 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Was Bale hurt. I know he got one knock
From the Beeb

1457: Gareth Bale is leading the way in BBC Sport's Player Rater but it's not enough for Martin Jol, who hauls him off and brings on winger Aaron Lennon for his first appearance of the season.

10:04 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, he was carrying a knock from the early stages.

Any idea of the Champs League schedule this week?

10:06 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I'll check on my DVR
Tuesday
Costa del Pool and Porto

Wednesday
Man Utd and Sporting

10:08 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What is your prediction for Upton Park?
Joined in progress or shown on tape delay?

What happened there on the line?
Good save?

10:09 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Lovely. I'll be about for the ManYoo. I'll be teaching all day Tuesday.

10:09 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

They seem to favor taped delay.

10:10 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The TV is behind the computer. There is a goal.
Are you delayed?

10:10 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I think that it was off chest rather than arm, but I'd like to see it again.

10:10 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Great goal.
He is scoring a lot this season!!!

10:11 AM

10:16 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, good on him. We're missing him at the Revvies, but he needs to be playing in the Prem. I heard some twat complaining about him on 606 but what do they want? He's their leading scorer.

Excellent finishing there from Bent!

Not much from RVP today - must be Ramadan.

Does Jol keep his job?

10:18 AM

I think that it may well be curtains for Martin today. A big game and losing after taking the lead.

10:19 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I think so too

10:21 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Berba looks very frustrating.
I wonder if he is already looking for a house in the North West for Jan?

10:22 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I've just noticed that Leeds are back in the drop zone based on today's action. Second bottom. Curses!

10:22 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

You're bloody not getting bloody Berbatov so just stop it. How many bloody strikers do you need?

10:23 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What a bummer
Forest have scored away and every other team are holding out for a nil nil

10:23 AM
