Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Footie Trivia Question of the Week

Since we're concentrated on Euro 2008 qualifiers this week, here's a hopeful one about England goals:

"Who are the top three England goalscorers in the history of the European Championship tournaments (that is, only goals in the finals, not the qualifiers)."

Good luck, lads!

I don't know this.

When you say championship, do you mean from 1980? That was the first WC type tournament, am I right?

Yeah, since 1980. Here's a hint: think about the tournaments that England have done well in.

Lineker, and Shearer are my guesses.

Spot on with Shearer, Gooner. He tallied seven goals in tournaments. I believe that we saw five of those at Euro 96 and he went on to score two others at Euro 2000. I seem to remember a winning header against the Germans in the group stages of that tournament. How about the other two?

Not Teddy Sheringham hopefully?

Nope, Ready Ted merely had two goals in that match against the Dutch that we saw in 96.

How about Rooney and Scholes

Roon is #2 with four goals - all of them at that brilliant Euro 2004 that made his reputation before getting crocked in the quarters against Portugal. He hasn't scored for England since!

Not Scholes. I can't remember his scoring at all for England in the Euros.

He did score during the '04 Tourney. I will check,
He scored against Croatia in 4-2 win.
He also scored in the 3-2 loss(after being 2-0 up) to Portugal in 2000
