Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

FOOTBALL TIME

Another week of games. I don't know what happened with Bob losing the internet but he asked me to keep the LOB flame burning.
Hope for some company.

Morning fellas.

Spurs have already scored against a very dodgy looking Fulham.
John should be pleased with the Hammers getting an early lead at Reading through Bellamy. Everton are also winning away at Bolton.
Early doors for everybody.

Good stuff Davey,

I'm down in the basement for a minute while the coffee brews and the bagel browns. We're still not functional in our kitchen yet.

Berbatov's finish was quite breathtaking, but you're right that Fulham are just clownish at the back. The two central guys each go for the same ball every time and Boca has been like the proverbial headless chicken.

Nice to see Clint get shot of Chimbonda to get his season off the mark.

11:03 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

AND Leeds are winning again!!!

11:06 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Wish I was down there with you guys

Exactly, now that they don't have to worry about the Carling. Shame that they had to meet quality opposition so early in the competition.

The Spurs game is essentially over as a contest so I'll natter away with you until the next match.

Fulham had the chance to reorganize at the back and maybe bring Healy on instead of Boaz... or Camara who just seems to lack quality. Obviously they decided for a 15-minute round of "Guitar Hero" instead. Hopeless.

It has to be said that Spurs problems are all at the back and teams that get thrashed by them really should look to what their forwards are capable of. I like to see Dempsey do well because of my interest in the US team, but he's so out of it for such long periods of the game. Smertin for such an elegant player who is able to boss the ball has not passed it forward it seems once this game. Simon Davies = Waste of Space.

Huge commentary on Jenas's abilities that in space and played through, he elects to pass it square to a player who's wearing the Fulham center-back at that moment. W-O-S.

Davey, I agree. Liverpool have added players this time that have synched up really well. Torres may not score as many as his detractors think he should, but his pace and strength free up so many options everywhere else. I fear them as well.

11:35 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Go back to the game.

Better still, get your brother to install a computer with the TV is sight!!!

I've been thinking about a laptap with wireless, but this kitchen remodeling and the boy's school bills have dented my bank account at the moment.

I'll stick with what I've got.

12:03 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Just looked up United's line up.
No Giggs.
Eagles in the starting line up.
Nani, Hargreaves and Anderson all starting.

Unbelievable finish for the Spurs match. Davey, I disagree, Spurs weren't robbed, they threw that result in the bin. Wasters and the amusing thing is that Jol is back in a hot-seat that he doesn't deserve. The directors would be better off dealing with their gutless players than the manager who's done great job bringing in Berbatov, Malbranque and Bale, bringing along Huddleston through the youth academy, and recognizing that wastes of space like Simon Davies should be sold. But if he's got a W-O-S like Jenas, and a back line in crisis, what's he to do?
Watch the directors sack Jol and bring in El Tel. HAH!

Did you see the goals from the L'pool game? Torres...? Absolutely rampant. And I forgot in the early thread about the Voronin character. Jesus, that guy looks like those characters that hung around speedway tracks in the '70s. Like a cross between Emmanuel Petit and some Russian mob assassin.

12:20 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Not a very impressive start by my lot.

12:31 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

As for Costa Del Pool.
Just wait til Torres has to play in a driving sleet in Bolton

Blogger gooner71 said...

That's when a psycho-killer from the Ukraine might just come in handy.

I'm out until the half.

12:35 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC!!!!

1:04 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I disagree. You've got what must be 70% of the possession, and only Tevez and Eagles working up front. Not convinced about Anderson. Saha for him at the half?

You won't run away with this but 2-0 to you in the end seems extremely likely.

1:10 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Looks like Saha is on for the second half. On for Anderson

1:20 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

It looks better to you than me.
I am very disappointed.
Come Louis

1:21 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That was good from Saha
He wasn't offside either

1:23 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

YES!!!!
SAHA

1:47 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Phew.
Total domination but not very dangerous.
Every year our goal difference is worth an extra point. NOT THIS YEAR
Have a great time with everyone this weekend. Wish I was there.

Inevitable. Sunderland aren't any good. Keano's determination and preparation is going to earn more points than points earned from within this squad. If it weren't for really bad teams this year, Sunderland would be packing for a trip downstairs already.

And you lot? You'll work Tevez and Nani into things more effectively, you'll get Skippy back, Hargreaves will become more comfortable and competent every match. I'd say right now, you're trying to win things in the league with a squad better suited to the CL-closed shop in defense and more defensive than attack minded in midfield. The good thing for you is the knowledge that the quality you have can endure through this patch of maybe less than stimulating form.

Just watched Sky Sports News.
Did you see the bust up Dennis Wise had with Blackwell. It looked like Wise did his normal jerk behavior. He had had his head on Blackwell like a head butt.

8:29 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

C'mon now. If Wisey had two feet on the ground trying to headbutt someone, he'd knock the wind out of that someone's chest!
