More Cup Magic
Dissertation be damned, I'm setting up to watch the intriguing Burnley vs. Arsenal match from Turf Moor of FSC. And there are plenty of other good matches today, including Liverpool's trip to Luton and a tricky fixture for Big Sam's Newcastle at Stoke.
How many more Premiership clubs will fall today? Join me to see.

Arsenal: Lehmann, Sagna, Toure, Senderos, Traore, Eboue, Silva, Denilson, Diaby, Bendtner, Eduardo.
Subs: Fabianski, Djourou, Justin Hoyte, Randall, Lansbury.
Referee: Alan Wiley (Staffordshire)
Looks like Arsene's going with the young side that did over Blackburn in the League Cup recently. And it's a return for Mad Jens!
It's the Leeds show up front for Burnley, with Robbie Blake and Andy Gray leading the line. They didn't score many for us in our worst year in league football last season, so they shouldn't trouble Arsenal much.
This match reminds me of a time when I was out in LA in the spring of 2003 and the Gooner found me a pub to watch an FA Cup match involving Leeds. The pub was also showing a Burnley match on another screen and there were two ex-pat Burnley fans at the bar watching it. I asked them how long it had been since they'd seen a Burnley match live on telly and they said matter of factly - fifteen years." I feel their pain.
Oh dear, Fulham's season just keeps getting worse and worse. They've just conceded a goal to Bristol Rovers in the third minute at Craven Cottage.
Oh, what a scare there for the Gunners! A decent cross over and Lapaty hit the crossbar with his header.
And Derby have conceded a goal to Sheffield Wednesday at home. So the cellar dwellers are clearly set on concentrating on their woeful league form, eh?
GOAL Arsenal 1-0. Oh, that was too easy for Eduardo. A simple ball over the top from Toure and Eduardo walked through and poked it home.
A half chance there for Andy Gray but Lehmann had it covered.
Burnley haven't thrown in the towel yet. They're definitely giving it a go, but they're passing is just a little sloppy.
Gilberto nearly nipped in there with a header from a corner that's cleared off the line. That was almost two-nil.
The commentator reckons that Burnley is "asking questions of Arsenal." Of course they're all - "Can you clear away pedestrian balls chipped into the box?" And the answer sadly is - "yes."
Sheffield Wednesday are now 0-2 up over Derby.
Fantastic overhead attempt there by Bendtner. Shame that it was rifled at Kiraly.
Blimey, suddenly Derby have sprung back to life with two quick goals to equalize.
And David Healey has scored for Fulham. They must be playing in green today, then.
Half-time: 0-1 Arsenal. Wenger will be reasonably satisfied. His young side hasn't exactly purred like the first team does at times, but they've done enough to see off a mediocre Burnley side.
Nice interplay between Bendtner and Eduardo there and the Croatian was in again but stroked it wide this time. Should have been 2-0.
Hey Bob, I am here.
Derby came back from 2 down to tie it up before half time
Did that deserve a red?
It was a nasty challenge but only a yellow, don't you think
Heya, Dave. I saw that! And Fulham came back as well.
Lunging challenge there from Lafferty and he's off. Straight red and deservedly so. Nasty challenge. And Burnley are down to ten and surely done for now.
And the Burnley faithful are booing Gilberto off the pitch now. Charming.
These football stars of today are a bunch of fairies though
You must have been glad that Don Revie's team was mentioned during this game. Andy Gray's dad Frank and his uncle Eddie.
Fulham have fallen behind again to Bristol Rovers
Nice cross and Gray was almost in there.
Fulham are tragic.
Torres not in Costa Del Pool's starting line up. He isn't even in the squad.Crouch and Kuyt start up front.
Fulham have tied it up
Are you going to be watching The Toon match.
Skysports News is on after this game.
Did you see Leeds' goals yesterday. Some good uns.
Two nil to the Arse. Nice passing
Is this Traore any relation the magical Jimmy that had his best moment at Turf Moor?
Didn't see the Leeds goals; I'll check it on YouTube. I will be watching the Toon. Should be a good one.
Yeah, that's his brother. He's a bit better than his brother too.
Will Rafa go if Pool lose today?
I am not sure about Rafa. How about Big Sam?
Definitely.
Didn't Ade Akinbiyi take Leicester down to the Championship with him a few seasons back?
Pepe isn't in goal for Costa
The Toon have Man Utd and Arsenal away in the next three weeks
Arsenal seem to be in full flow now after that second goal. There could definitely be a third or fourth.
I'm hoping that his tenure at Newcastle will run Fat Sam out of football altogether.
According to Talksport, only 16,000 at Turf Moor. A disappointing attendance. They didn't lower any prices.
All over at Pride Park. It has ended up all square at 2
Shame about that. Also, Burnley fans will have known that they weren't going to see the Arsenal first team.
Wednesday have forced a replay with Derby - or should that be the other way around?
Another 2-2 result at the Cottage.
Full-time: 0-2; a stroll in the mud for the Arse kids.
All over at Burnley. They did well but Arsenal were just too much.
I know all the Arsenal players weren't on show but still a strong side.
I hope that the Skysports is live and they go for updates at Luton
I'll be back in a couple of hours
See you then, mate!
Liverpool take the lead in the 73rd minute but Luton equalize after 76th. The game is now into the last five minutes. A replay would be heaven sent for Luton's coffers!!
Congratulations Luton.
According to talksport, Liverpool were outclassed. Luton wanted the replay without a doubt.
Many Congrats
Hey Dave, would you look at the size of that Britannia Stadium. There is certainly some money bouncing around Britain these days. Blimey!
They've got Dom Matteo...
No, he's with the physio...
la la la la
And we're off at the Brittania,
strange decision of Big Sam to make Smiffy club captain
I have to juggle this match and my Giants against the Bucs
How many times have we said, "Good to see wee Michael Owen back..." but still...it is good to see the kid back.
Giants? Bucs?
He'll be off in about 20 minutes
Good bright start from Stoke. Newcastle look nervous, don't they?
The Bucs are from Florida, right? In that case, "Go Bucs!"
Shut it with the Bucs!!!
Sir Alex in the flat cap. Ecky thump!
Ecky ecky thump. Classic line Robert!!
Nice touch from wee Mikey there, but that's how he crocked himself against Sweden during the WC.
The weather does look appalling there. How's the weather in Scotia today?
Lots of snow on the ground and a wee bit nippy but we are supposed to be up into the fifties on Tuesday
70 degrees now in the Swamp. High of 75 today. Sunny.
Trivia Question
What was Stoke's old ground called
I like the weather change so you can stick that 75 up your left nostril
Viduka should have done better there. Nice turn, though. He's been at the pies again, by the look of him.
The Pottery?
Nope, good guess but nowhere near
It actually dropped into the 40s for about 36 hours at the beginning of the week and it made headlines in the local paper. They had pictures of people in big puffy parkas on the front page.
Wimps
Erm...the Victoria Ground, which had been their home ground since 1878.
That was a Ricky Roberts cross shot.
ooh, you cheat
Oh, I never! ;-]
Go on, Mikey! Ohhhhhhhhh.
Owen almost in there.
Bugger, the computer is ahead of FS.
WHY ARE THEY DELAYED
Why is Alan Smith playing a defensive midfield role? He's a bloody striker!
Bugger, the Bucs just scored a touchdown
Maybe they get a few pennies off on the Sky feed if they're delayed. I wouldn't put it past them.
Hey have you checked out the two bog trotters on Red Devil Radio? I was listening to it Friday. Bit too much of the scum for my liking, but you might like it.
Go Bucs!
Agreed
I'll take a listen
1833: "I'm hopeful that makes us a more attractive proposition. Hopefully, after tomorrow one or two things might happen."
Luton boss Kevin Blackwell after the 1-1 draw with Liverpool (The Hatters must find a buyer by 1700 GMT on Monday)
Bloody Kevin Blackwell, eh? I think we're still paying him off, along with El Tel, O'Leary and the postman's wife.
He didn't do bad for you.
Wasn't he pushed out by Bates?
I thought he was okay with the Leeds fans
Yellow card for your old boy Nicky Butt.
Smiffy will be next
He had to go once he'd planted us at the bottom of the Championship. That should have never happened.
Smiffy's always good for a card.
Weren't they favorites for promotion after losing the playoff final
What was Cresswell playing at there. Useless.
Yeah, but a lot of fans blame him for bottling it in the playoff with Watford. He didn't play the strongest side. Then we started so poorly the next season. He had to go.
That was a Joel Hunter pass from Jose Enrique.
I'm falling asleep - this is dire.
I love the derisive cheer that goes up then when one minute of extra time is announced.
The Giants tie it up with your Bucs
Half-time: 0-0 - a bit of a bore this one. I'm hoping for better in the second half. I'd heard on 606 how well Stoke were playing but they haven't impressed me so far, apart from perhaps Radibe.
TOUCHDOWN GIANTS!!!!
I think the guy that is hurt right now should have shot after he cut inside
It was a great turn but get the shot off
1903: "It takes some getting used to seeing Michael Owen without an injury. You expect to see Halley's comet at the same time."
strikinglyhandsome1 on 606
Nice hit by Nicky B but should have kept it down
Hopeless from Nicky Butt. Bring back Jermaine Jenas!
YIKES!!
I don't think that has ever been said before about JJ
Smiffy started as a striker for us, he played in the hole for you lot, now he's a defensive midfielder. Does that mean he'll be playing in goal at his next club?
I think Fabio is looking for him to take over for Robbo
Someone must like Jenas; how else could he maintain a professional career for this long.
I can't see it!!!
If this tie stays even then 12 of the 32 matches will have gone to a replay.
The draw tomorrow morning is going to be crazy looking
Oh dear, wee Mikey was just too wee there to nod it in.
Scramble in the box, off the post and a great cross by Duff and Mike would have scored if he wasn't Wee Mikey
Yeah, and there are several Premier League clubs who will have to replay, including Liverpool, Citeh and probably this lot. Six are already out.
We both had a funny wee remark
Your lot, Arsenal and Chelski must be breathing sighs of relief that they were able to get through this hurdle without a replay. It's likely to have an effect on the Premiership.
Great minds think alike, eh?
If Newcastle get a draw their fans better be scared.
They brought back Championship side Birmingham to St. James' last season and got walloped FIVE ONE
Too right. Newcastle is on for a slide down the table.
Butt clearly thinks that the goal is twenty feet high; he needs his prescription adjusted.
Sadibe's coming off; he was the only decent player for Stoke. Some big beardy bloke on for him. He looks fatter than Viduka.
What a stop on the line
And the fat beardy bloke should've scored with his first touch. Good save but if it wasn't for that extra slice of Christmas pud that he indulged in, he'd had knocked that one in.
More scramble eggs going on in the Toon box
Good description
"They've not seen anything this exciting for years here in Stoke."
That says it all, eh?
I meant to give you a hard time for you picture choice for this and the last posting.
IT IS BLOODY CHELSKI HOLDING IT!!
Couldn't you have a pick either RED or even white ribbons on it. Wait a minute, did they have photographs way back in '72?
The quality of this football is shocking. One bad ball after another, deflected shots, ricochets off into touch. Pure pinball football.
They are the current holders, you wally. You'll notice that whoever is holding the Cup is cut out of the picture. You lot will actually have to give a toss about the competition in order to get it back won't you?
Stoke are putting the pressure.
Feast your eyes on this:
http://www.ozwhitelufc.net.au/images/teams/1971-72%20FA%20Cup%20Winners.jpg
Oh, inches away for Stoke again.
LISTEN, WE SHOULD HAVE ONE THE DAMN THING LAST SEASON!!!
If Giggs scored the tap in we would have been the holders!!
We have won the bloody thing ELEVEN times!!
Oooh, agonizingly close. Was that off the hand for the deflection
That should have said WON not one, duh
United favorites for the Cup
3 to 1
Arsenal and Chelsea 4-1
Havant and Waterlooville 10,000 to 1
As I said, if Ryan could put down his cellphone for two seconds, you might actually have won it again for the 12th time.
We won it in '04 against Millwall but have dominated the finals in '05 and '07 and lost both
Might be worth a flutter at 10,000 to 1.
Not really
Boo hoo, "our trophy cabinet is so bare that we need to win everything in sight." I feel for you, mate. Really. It must be hard.
At least someone understands
Thanks for the good thoughts
How are my Bucs doing?
Who is this West Country Wurzel Gummidge bumpkin doing the commentary? He's rubbish.
Giants got a fumble off the second half kickoff. The Giants just missed a third down and are kicking a field goal as I type and it is TRUE BLUE
Bucs 7 Giants 17
Kathy just delivered home made Fish n Chips for me. I am drowning it with vinegar. Lovely jubbley
Why take off Viduka? Couldn't he score a goal
Lucky boy. Is it wrapped in newspaper?
I wish
The pies just arrived for Mark. He's off.
Make mine plaice and chips with a battered sausage on the side. Hold the vinegar. Lovely.
Yet another shot from Nicky Butt into Row H.
Battered Sausage for me too.
No vinegar, you're nuts
Off the outside of the post by Vids sub
Full-time: That was horrible - 0-0.
Good chatting with you, though, lad. Good luck to your Giants and enjoy the snow.
The Toon Army make some noise and that is it.
Big Sam is still in the Cup.
Twelve replays needed.
Now back to the league.
Great to spend the afternoon with you Bob
