Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Subs: Rustu, Zengin, Zan, Emre, Topal, Senturk, Gungor, Boral, Kazim-Richards, Akman, Sarioglu, Erding
Referee: Lubos Michel (Slovakia)
Again it's Robbie Mustoe doing the color this afternoon. Shame, that. I really enjoyed Andy Gray's commentary during the matches earlier in the week.
It's really tipping down here in Zurich, which isn't making this match any more attractive.
The Turks definitely look like the superior side, moving the ball around well at times, but the conditions aren't making it easy for them.
First real shot on goal there from Switzerland's Inler. It was a daisy cutter that troubled the Turkish keeper on the skippy surface.
Decent move there from the Swiss, who've come alive in the past five minutes, leads to a shot on goal by Barnetta.
Free kick to Switzerland now...
Driven in and Demirel did well to save it.
If the rain keeps up, the referee could easily call it off. The surface is quite appalling now, with lots of patches of big puddles of standing water.
Hey, I am here for a few minutes. I have to go over to Kathy's dad's house in a few secs.
I read a good line about this one...
"Turkey and Swiss make a good sandwich but not a good football match"
Tuncay performed a rather elaborate dive on the edge of the box and Lubos Michel has bought, giving the Turks a dangerous free kick here....
Oh, it came back on the post. Banaglia might have got a touch there. Yes, Turam did head it on goal and it came off the post. Very close call.
How's you day been Doctor Dre?
Nice one! Welcome, Dave! What have you heard from Tony today?
He is home. He came home yesterday. I got a short email from him and he said he will send another soon
Good day. I'm working on the revisions now as I have a June 30th filing date.
Also, I got great news about my schedule up in Fredonia. Three sections of the same course - one preparation! Two day teaching schedule (Tuesday and Wednesday mornings). Are you jealous?
And the Swiss score.
This rain is unbelievable. What a help it was for the ball to stop
GOAL! A farcical goal there with the ball held up by the rain twice. But the Turkish-born Swiss striker Hakan Yakin has stuck the knife into his country of birth to put the hosts up.
Wow, you'll be able to come east for long weekends!!!
I'm off, be back soon
That makes the group situation fascinating. Almost no one predicted Switzerland going through in this group, despite the good record of hosts at major tournaments. But if this result holds up, they'd be on three points.
Oh, Yakin has just missed a sitter for #2. How did he miss?
Definitely, mate. I'll be on the road visiting you and me mates in Boston, for sure. Also KC interviewed at a school in Queens (York College) yesterday, so it's possible she'll be in the city. It's all up for grabs now, as Brian Moore would say.
TTFN
Yakin's in again but ruled offside. The soggy pitch really is making this match absurd. Yakin looked like bleedin' Gene Kelly there traipsing through the puddles.
I can't believe that the authorities haven't called off this match. It really is ridiculous at this point. Any kind of fluid play is impossible.
Coming up on half time. With the hosts in the lead, does the ref dare abandon the match?
I am back
Boy the Swiss should have scored again just before I left
Half-time: Switzerland 1-0.
The hosts will be mighty happy with this score. It's been an even match so far ruined by the weather, to be fair. Jakob Kuhn's boys won't matter about that, though. This could play them back into the tournament.
Half-time or should I say squeegee time
You're back?!
Second half starting...
I can't believe this match is going on.
Fateh Turim isn't wasting any time with the changes. Senturk and Topal have come on for Turkey.
I'm really liking the look of this teenager Derdiyok. Funny name, but we'd have him down the Elland. S'pose he wants to play in Coca Cola League Division 1?
Lubos Michel spotted a wily handball by a Turkish player there and he's received a yellow card for his trouble.
The Turk doing his best impersonation of Adebayor against United at OT.
No one made a big deal about that one.
WHY?
Senderos takes a big tumble into a muddy bog on the sideline and comes up looking splotchy.
We all hate Manchester United?
Btw, did you see any of the early match?
The pitchforks must have worked. The pitch doesn't seem quite as bad now.
Nice finish for Semturk but he was unfortunately miles offside.
Derdiyok picks up a yellow for sliding wildly into Altentop.
And the Turks score.
Nice goal
GOAL! Fantastic. It's 1-1. A great ball into the danger zone and the substitute Semturk beats the keeper with his header.
Game on!
The Swiss nearly go right back down and score again. Hakan Yakin again is the danger man. Derdiyok is down on the turf.
The match is boiling over here as a corner comes over. The ref has called for the kick to be taken over again.
Half an hour left. Will be see a winner?
The Swiss are pouring it on now. Another corner in and Magna shoots wide.
Have you ever played this addictive game?

Wow, Chelsea get Scolari!!
No wonder why he wants Ron to leave England
As I reported this morning, Felipe Scolari has been announced as the new Chelski boss. As I said before - one more reason to hate Chelski.
Barnetta is making way for Vonlanthen.
I'll have a go at your puzzle game later tonight.
You'll like the puzzle.
Couldn't agree with you more.
More reason to hate the Blues
Robbie Mustoe is absolutely wrong about that. Felipe Scolari made his name at Gremio, the most thuggish side in Brazilian footie. Then he was at the helm during the 2002 WC qualifying campaign where Brazil lost their first matches in WC qualifying history because he was insistent on hanging on to old warhorses. Only Portugal have played good football under his leadership and that's because of the players IMHO, not him. I'm really glad that he never took the England job.
The Turkish center back Servet has a problem now, but he'll struggle on.
Fifteen minutes left - oh, Nihat surely should have scored from Tuncay's ball in.
Turks almost is again
Fernandes is coming off for Cabanas.
Shouldn't that be Switzerland "circling the wagons?" I reckon that Adrian Healey doesn't know his Western analogies very well.
Great save from Demiril there to keep out the Swiss counterattack.
The Swiss with a great counter attack.
Great through ball. The guy should have done better
Five minutes left.
Good free kick opportunity here from the Swiss....
Magna takes...and it's deflected for a corner.
No way was Senderos offside there. The fullback was behind the keeper.
Asik's in the wars now and he's been carted off with a huge gash on his head. They're down to ten men now.
Into stoppage time. This has been a thrilling match. Much more evenly matched than I'd expected. Switzerland have performed gamely.
AND THE TURKS ARE GOING TO WIN!!!!
Bugger I was rooting for the Swiss
GOAL! Oh, my word. The Turks have stolen it and the Swiss are out!
Jakob Kuhn looks sick as a parrot!
Turkey 2-1!
Me too - shame for the Swiss - they played their hearts out and that was a bit jammy.
Yes, the deflection took it over the keeper's head. Very unlucky.
I guess Turkey and Swiss don't just make a good sandwich!!
Today, in the first match, we had the first equalizer of the tournament and now we have our first come from behind win
Full-time: Turkey 2-1.
Fabulous drama in this match. The tournament has really come to life today. The hosts are the first team out of the tournament.
I'm off to get some more work done. Nice chatting with you, mate. See you tomorrow?
Winner take all for the Czechs and Turks.
According to statto, I think they are all even. What is the tie breaker?
Goals for and against are completely even. What happens?
Take care Doc
They mentioned this morning that it's the head to head match up. So Czechs vs Turks is the key. If Portugal were to send out a weakened side that got turned over by Switzerland, then they'd still finish top as they've beaten both the Czechs and Turks already. So, that Turkish goal will be a relief for Scolari. I don't expect to see Cronaldo, Deco, Simao and so on on Sunday.
Still, what is the tie breaker for the Czechs and Turks? They are dead even. If they draw, they will be dead even
Goals scored 2, Goals conceded 3
Can you help me Doc?
Dunno, Karel Bruckner and Fateh Turim have a duel?
Penaltys is the tiebreaker - i assume without extra time.
Thanks for clearing that up, Simon. I really didn't have a clue.
