I had a rotten week on the predictions last weekend. Here are my picks for today:
Burnley 1 Sunderland 1
Arsenal 2 Wigan 0
Villa 2 Pompey 0
Bolton 0 Stoke 1
Hull 1 Brum 1
West Ham 1 Liverpool 2
Oh dear - someone's invited Tommy "Onion Bag" Smyth to the party on ESPN2. Tommy's like a bleedin' boomerang. Just when you think he's gone, he's back again and attacking your head.
The preview show is mercifully brief and here we are with the sides coming out at Turf Moor.
And we're under way. This is the first duff fixture that we've had so far on ESPN2's early morning coverage. It'll need some goals to sustain interest. Let's hope we get an early one.
Sunderland with a good start here. They look a completely different side to that which finished last season still fighting relegation on the last day. They spent a packet over the summer.
Oh dear, Frazier Campbell was nearly in there. Tense moments for the Burnley defense.
Darren Bent's been the real surprise of the season. I've never rated him but he has scored four goals in the Premier League so far this season. I don't get it.
The Sunderland keeper Jensen has been one of my favorites this season. Burnley have already played four of last season's top five and he's a big reason why they've earned a few points.
Penalty to Burnley!
Yes, Anton Ferndinand made a total hash of the tackle and it was a stone cold penalty. Good call.
Alexander steps up and....1-0!
I don't know about that penalty. It was toe poked straight down the middle. Very cheeky.
That will make things interesting. Burnley were still looking shell-shocked after that 4-0 thrashing at Anfield last weekend and it was their first real attack.
Burnley with a let off there. Bent was allowed to ghost in on a backpass but Bent bobbled it straight at Jensen.
I reckon that my 1-1 prediction is looking pretty good here.
Burnley midfielder Chris McCann is not going to be able to continue after picking up knock. Joey Gudjonsson coming on for him.
Half an hour in and Burnley are just about hanging on to this 1-0 lead although they're giving away a lot of possession in midfield.
Kenwynne Jones is up and warming up on the sideline, so perhaps Stevie Bruce is putting some pressure on Campbell and Bent.
GOAL! Lovely ball in from Andy Reid and Bent had time to turn and slot past Jensen. He had to score!
1-1!
A suspicion of offside there for me but Darren Bent's now level on five goals with Rooney and Defoe.
Five minutes to go until half time now. That score will do me nicely.
Bent has another pop from distance. Well over the top. Burnley have to shut him down.
Hey Bob,
I am up. I was following the match in bed and then I just took Matt to his soccer team car wash.
I agree with stuff you said earlier.
The penalty was very strange. He came straight to the ball instead of the side. If I was a keeper, I would have guessed it was going down the middle
The Sunderland goal was definitely on-side
Just saw that there are two links for Soccer Saturday on VSS
Half-time: 1-1 at Turf Moor. Nicely poised at the interval and ESPN2's luck continues.
I agree with you about the pregame show but I happy how they go to the ground for the teams and not pop in right at kick off
Half time
I have the Sky half time stuff on VSS
Morning, Dave. Thanks for agreeing with me. That's always a wise choice.
I'll be checking out those links right now.
Cheers, mate. Great link on VSS.
I am not going to be here for the Battle of Manchester tomorrow.
I have a game
I don't know if you read my comment last week but
Arsenal play United with a perfect record.. Lose
Spurs play United with a perfect record... Lose
Citeh play United with a perfect record... ?
Bring on CHELSEA
Are you going to be able to watch any of Leeds Liverpool midweek? I know it is on the computer.
I won 't be around because of Tom's game. I won't be around for United's game with Wolves on Wednesday because of Matt's game
We're back on at Turf Moor and the SS panel is still rabbiting on about the Villa match to come.
Tom is watching the prem goals from last week so I have to watch this game on the computer
Did you know that Sky Sports News show all the goals on the Saturday evening show. They never used to be allowed to show them!
Wednesday's my busiest day, unfortunately, so I'll be ducking in and out of it. I've got one class at 2 and another at 5. I'm very nervous about it.
I haven't got the SS link going. It is already on? I thought it started at 3
Don't Leeds and Costa play Tuesday?
Yup
Leeds vs Costa is on Tuesday 2:45 kick off
Good Morning everyone .
I'll be popping in and out today . Have to go to Mildenhall in a little while .
Morning Bruv
A shout for handball. It certainly did hit Frazier Campbell's hand but it was definitely unintentional.
Ah, Tuesday's a bit better for me. Class at 2 but I should be able to catch a bit of the second half.
Morning, Tony!
The Beast did well to save from Campbell there.
David Nugent coming on....
Finally got the TV back
It is about 10 seconds ahead of my computer
KJ about to come on
Just turned on SS instead of the game
Luv it
Stevie Bruce is rolling the dice a bit. Kenwynne Jones on to complete a three pronged attack for Sunderland.
Turf Moor sounds good
Who do Leeds have today?
Home?
Nugent nets it in for Burnley
Nice header
GOAL! Nugent scores his first for Burnley! Great header from Eagles' cross.
2-1!
Leeds have Gillingham at home. I'm reasonably confident.
That header has blown my perfect prediction. I could still get 15 points if Sunderland equalize.
Nugent with a a funny... grabs the linesman's flag and points to the corner
Fifteen minutes to play in this one.
What has happened to Sunderland here. They were bossing it in the first half
Not exactly Rio
1419: TV replays from that last spell of Burnley pressure seem to show Anton Ferdinand using his arm as he shepherds the ball to safety, under pressure from David Nugent. Giving away one silly penalty is clearly not enough for one match.
Absolutely. They seem have to run out of ideas. They could have been 2-0 in the first fifteen minutes.
The SS men still are pronouncing Jozy's name wrong
Interesting story. I was reading an article about the Chelsea transfer win ban that my Dad sent. It had a picture of a side that Chelski ran out for an FA Youth match that included several players who Chelski signed before they were 16, triggering the FIFA action. Three were bought from the Leeds academy!
Story on JA
"Jossy?"
Huh?
Burnley wrap it up... great goal
AltidorE
Oh dear. I was watching Jozy and I missed Burnley's third goal. Nugent with a brace. Good curler on the turn there.
Nugent scored bags of goals for Preston... nothing for Pompey and now bags for Burnely. He must like the Northwest
It's "Al-ti-dor," Jeff. Get it right!
That was nasty by Bardsley... ex United player
Yellow
Into stoppage time, now.
A bit rash from Kieran Richardson there. Into the book. He must have learned that at OT.
ESPN get their goals again
Stuum
So, Adebayor is suspended, Tevez, Robinho and Santa Cruz are injured. Good time to play Citeh, don't you think?
It is over
Burnley 3 Sunderland 1
I told you Burnley wouldn't be relegated!
Full time at Turf Moor. 3-1 Burnley. Wonderful start for them. 10 points from six games.
Hope so
Burnely up to 8th
Sorry, that's nine points. Still early doors, mate.
Looks like FSC are setting up the Villa match. I'll be looking for Arsenal v. Wigan at the top of the hour.
Me too
I will still keep the sound of SS on though
That sounds like a plan.
I've got the lucky Leeds shirt on and am looking forward to following the Leeds. It looks to be the ideal line-up so my expectations are high. We're level on points with Charlton, with Bristol Rovers and Huddersfield 4 and 5 points points behind. I'm hoping to extend that lead.
Our resident Celtic fan Someone Said will be happy. Kilmarnock have heldchampions Rangers to a draw in earlier play.
Altidore and Venegoor of Hessilink sound like a dynamite pairing.
TAKE THE BLOODY SHIRT OFF!!
IT AIN'T LUCKY! (while they are playing)
The Arse link working well. Just off
Villa and Arsenal both start on the front foot. Both get a run into the box
Free kick chance at the Em
And we're away! I've got a great stream up for the Arse-Wigan match on VSS. Villa on the box and SS yammering away in the background.
Blocked by the wall
I'll take it off at half time if things aren't going well.
Fredonia and Scotia both have the same things going!
Empty seats at the Emirates, why?
The commentator on the Arsenal match is called "Sven Shroter." Never heard of him!
Merson..."all of a sudden, nothing happening"
I don't like ....
To recap.. what scores do you want in L1?
The Toon take the lead at SJP
Newcastle are already 1-0 up. Stephen Taylor with the goal.
Play up Pompey, Pompey play up
Play up Pompey, Pompey play up
I'm using my limited mojo on Leeds. I want a win there, that's it. I don't care about Charlton. They can go ahead and win today. Sure, it would be nice if Brentford could take something off Bristol Rovers. Not sure I want Millwall to beat Huddersfield. I can't stand them.
Righto sir
Southend take the lead at Brighton
Cambridge take the lead at home against Wrexham
Lost my Arse link for a bit
I've lost my Arse link. You?
Oh dear - there's a goal for Bristol Rovers. That'll take them within two points of us.
Millwall take the lead
Huddersfield have fallen behind though. They'll drop a bit.
Whoa
Leeds take the lead!
Jermaine ...Bradley Johnson
Funny name!!
Yesssss!!!!!
Bradley Johnson with our first goal and his fourth of the season!!
1-0 to the good guys.
I think the commentator just assumed that Jermaine was the goalscorer before he checked his monitor.
GORDON BENNETT!!
The Tractor Roys are losing again!!
Is Roy in trouble?
Two nil to the Horrible Lions
The Tractor Boys are already behind. 1-0 Doncaster.
And now Millwall are 2-0 up!
Maybe it's a good thing that Keano didn't put money down on property in East Anglia. He can't be long for that job. They're in the drop zone, no?
Still no Arsenal link!
WBA take the lead at Boro
They are absolutely in the drop zone
They have to give him time thoough
Tried the link again and it is working
RVP should have scored there
Sounds like Arsenal are missing a lot of chances. Does RVP actually ever score any goals?
Hi Guys . Just got back from town .
Thought you would like to know I
Treated myself to fish and chips
from Snushalls . Excuse me while I
eat them .
Cardiff losing at home to QPR
Sotton have taken the lead
Charlton winning at Carrow Road
YOU BUGGER!!!!
I WANT SOME!!
Charlton are 0-1 up at Carrow Road. So it's just about all going to form. Charlton and Leeds now on 22 points, Bristol Rovers on 18, the Dons on 15, Huddersfield down to 14 in fifth now.
I've hardly watched the Villa Pompey game... the TV is the other side of the room!
That is mean, Tony.
Pompey go close ... should have done better
Pompey haven't been too bad but they don't look like they have anyone who can stick it in the net.
I look down for a moment and I miss an Arse goal
1 nil to the Arsenal. It is their Dutch scoring machine defender!
I'm back up on my Arse link now too. The Gooner is hosting my parents this week, so I'm not sure that he's able to watch the footer today.
Vermaelen, eh? He's been their best player this season, for sure.
Are seeing your parents?
Say hello to them for me
Merson says Jozy's name again
John Barnes' lot have fallen behind again!
Heskey's warming up for Villa.
TWO NIL!!!
Well done
Johnson scores again!
YESSSS! Bradley Johnson with a brace. He's now level with Beckford on 5
2-0!
How can Fabio say that Owen won't be considered for England because he isn't a regular... how about Heskey?
Bristol Rovers now 0-2 up on Brentford. I don't care.
Bristol Rovers are two up
My Arsenal link is always going out
WBA are two up
The difference between Owen and Heskey is that wee Mikey is useless. Come on, if he weren't wearing United colors now, you wouldn't have him in the reckoning. How many sitters does he have to miss for you lot before you turn on him?
Penalty to Villa!
It looks like Spike Lee's in the crowd at the Emirates. Trust him to find the trendy club in North London. He's got a Yankees cap on, though. Shame.
Looked a good penalty to me.
Jamie Milner to take...1-0!
STUPID CHALLENGE... almost as bad as Anton's
One nil
Given up on the Arsenal link
Morning folks. Mostly out today. Just watched Milner score the penalty for Villa.
And yes, quite pleased about Kilmarnock!
Just don't mention Tel Aviv ;)
Soton are 1-0 up but they're still in the red zone on -2 points.
Morning, Someone!
Oh dear - not much of a debut for big Sol Campbell. Notts County are 1-0 down at Morecambe.
Run ragged by Morecambe!
TINY OH
Gotta love the Merse. He's calling Taino "Teeneeyo." And the other lads are giving him stick.
Boy that was delicious !!!
Leicester are 0-2 up. A brace from Matty Fryatt.
SHUT IT!!!!!!!!!!
COME ON YOU SPURS!!!!
Alright, what did you have. Cod? Plaice? Battered sausage? Let's have it, Tony.
Ags scores Villa's second
WHAT IS GOING ON WITH PORTSMOUTH!
Pompey's going down. Villa 2-0.
Charlton two up against Norwich
Cod and chips .
Gabby Ag nets Villa's second. For a moment I thought he'd slipped and blown the chance but it flew into the top corner. No chance for Calamity.
The Baggies are now THREE up at Boro
B. Rovers are three up away as well
Vinegar?
Wot, no sausage! I wouldn't even get out of the door Snushalls without snarfing one of those beauties.
Charlton are 0-2 up now. Don't care.
Norwich get a goal back
Almost half time now. Norwich have got one back against Charlton. Come on, you Canaries!
MK Dons take the lead
Dave , you know I don't do vinegar .
Half time at Villa Park
Another goal for West Brom, they are running riot at the Riverside! Youssuouf Mulumbu makes it 3-0 to the Baggies against Middlesbrough.
I didn't know that... you're a plonker...just like Bob
DROWN IT VINEGAR!!
Nice one, Tony. Ditch the vinegar.
Off to kick the ball around with Jon.
Be back for the second half
I'm going to take a big risk and take the lucky Leeds shirt off at half time and jump in the shower. It's going back on if we get into trouble.
I am back
and I'm off again.
Picking up Matt
I'm back from the shower and Jeff Stelling is complaining about his beloved Hartlepool conceding three penalties today!
YESSSS! 3-0 Leeds! Jon Howson with his first of the season.
Hello Chaps!
The Gooner and The Principal from Feltwell are in the house.
Thomas Vermaelaaaaaaaaaan! 2-0
2-0 Arsenal! And it's that goal machine Thomas Vermaelen with his second. And apparently it's not a header from a corner - his forte - but rather a bullet volley. What a buy this boy has proven!
Welcome, mate! So is Vermaelen the best Arsenal player so far this season? It seems like it.
Stoke are 0-1 up against Bolton. Good stuff.
Millwall 3-0 up - Huddersfield dead and buried today.
Uh oh. The Gills have pegged us back to 3-1. I'm going to resist putting the shirt back on, though. Surely we can hang on to a 3-1 lead.
Soton are 2-0 up now. Could be their first win of the season.
Don't know about best yet, but certainly the most welcome and unexpected. Mind, he didn't look too clever against Standard in midweek.
How was the second goal? I've been on and off the link all match.
3-0 Arsenal! Eduardo with the rebound goal.
3-0! Eduardo picked up the carom after he'd banged it off the post. Actually, maybe Eboue's touch proved what put it past the keeper.
Sixty minutes gone at Elland Road. We're still dominating proceedings. I wouldn't mind another goal to seal the deal.
Watford have scored 2 in 5 minutes to level it against Leicester at Vicarage Road.
Yep the goal is credited to Eboue.
Arsenal's 2nd? Vermaelen curled a first time shot from about 25 yards out. It was pretty special.
Brentford have pegged Bristol Rovers back to 1-3.
Spot on, Gooner. The third goal has been awarded to Eboue.
Emile Heskey is coming on for John Carew at Villa Park.
