Good morning Robert
I am here for the duration today
Costa vs Citeh followed by Sunderland vs Arsenal on FSC and the the second Merseyside Manc match of the day at OT with United vs Everton
Magic! Welcome, mate. It seems like a long time since we had a long, leisurely natter on a Saturday morning. I've been looking forward to it. I've got a brilliant stream up through VSS, while ESPN are still on the creepy hunting show.
1205: Liverpool v Man City
Liverpool: Reina, Carragher, Skrtel, Agger, Insua, Mascherano, Lucas, Kuyt, Gerrard, Babel, Ngog. Subs: Cavalieri, Aquilani, Riera, Aurelio, Benayoun, Kyrgiakos, El Zhar.
Man City: Given, Zabaleta, Toure, Lescott, Bridge, De Jong, Barry, Wright-Phillips, Ireland, Bellamy, Adebayor. Subs: Taylor, Onuoha, Johnson, Santa Cruz, Tevez, Kompany, Weiss.
Tevez on the bench? And where is Robinho? I don't know about that.
Why does Rafa fancy starting Lucas over Benayoun all the time? Then Yossi comes on and scores a crucial goal. I don't get it.
Looks like there are two links for SS starting at 8 o'clock
It's Manc Land vs. Merseyside today, isn't it? Wow!
ESPN coverage has finally started. About time; I was really pulling for the deer to survive.
I've got a VSS link going.
I will leave it on for the half time stuff at least
I've been looking forward to this weekend tilt as well
Who do the Mighty Whites have today?
I had forgotten that Anelka played for Citeh - how many bloody Premiership clubs has he played for?
We've got the Seagulls in Brighton today. Remember that we have a game in hand from last weekend.
Computer slightly behind the TV
ESPN do keep up to date unlike FSC
"This is Anfield." Luv it!
Looks wet at Anfield.
Lost my link right away.
Who would you like to win today?
I really want Costa to fall deepter
Good to hear Never Walk Alone being song.
Rafa singing along to "You'll Never Walk Alone." Marvelous!
Definitely Citeh for me today, but I'm surprised to hear that from you.
Citeh are the only team to lose only once
TO UNITED!!
SEE!!!
Citeh win the toss and switch them around!
Citeh win the toss and make Liverpool attack the Kop end in the first half. Interesting.
Why does it surprise you? I have never been bothered by Citeh. They have been irrelevant.
can't say that about Costa
The Reds straight into the attack here. An early goal would really light the touch paper.
A rainy Anfield but they still watered it before the match
But how long will Citeh be irrelevant if the Fake Sheikhs keep pouring cash into the club?
A bit frantic and ping pongy right at the moment. The ref isn't blowing up for much either.
What a save by Given!
Oh, must be. No Given just about scrambled it away after the header from Skrtel.
It still almost went in at the back post and then the defender swings and misses as it goes out of bounds
Agger's down after a clash of heads. He'll need treatment for sure.
Stretcher being called for by the ref
Who's that warming up?
Apparently it's a Greek defender Kyrgiakos - and he's stripping off to come on.
dunno but probably some Spanish geezer
He probably has some Iberian blood in him
ooh, Barry could have done better there. Where was the defender?
Gareth Barry was in acres of space in the Liverpool area but he didn't seem to know what to do with it. Headed tamely at Reina.
Useless pass by SWP
Gerrard and Babel go down hurt
More injuries. This time it's Babel down.
Gerrard seems to have been slapped in the face
I just turned on SS.
Merson has some strange mustache growing
The first link for SS on VSS is great
Chelsea won't have Drogba, Bollocks and Lampard today
Shame they are playing at home to Wolves
Again, who do Leeds play???
Ooh, that was nasty from Carra and he goes into the book for it.
Carra gets a yellow
Citeh have won once in 28 years at Anfield
Babel doesn't look right. He'll need to come off. Struth - Liverpool will only have one sub left!
Babel is going to have to go off
Costa make their second substitution inside the first 20 minutes... keep dropping down Costa
Benayoun to come on. Well, he was going to come on eventually, wasn't he?
On come Benayoun... why wasn't he starting in the first place?
Almost a brilliant pass with his first touch
Did you see that Big Sam is going to have an operation on a coronary artery? He is going to miss their next three matches
I'm not surprised - Fat Sam is a bypass waiting to happen!
SS saying that United could be behind by 8 points before they kick off.
They say that they played well at the Bridge but can't score goals.
We are way behind Chelsea and Arsenal in the goal scoring stats.... that is not the United way
Now, it's Kolo Toure who's down for the count. The physios getting plenty of exercise today.
Merson really has to shave that thing off!!
Adebayor hasn't done much today
That was a late flag for Ade. I thought he was in for a moment.
So, is Gus Poyet going to spread his magic today for the Seagulls?
I hope not!
They won at Southampton last week.
Is it at Elland Road?
All the panel pick 'just' Man United
That is an unfortunate look for the Merse. I'm surprised that the boys aren't giving him more stick for it.
Nope - it's in Brighton today.
Good word... unfortunate
Where are the ESPN goals!
Great move by Citeh but SWP knocks one wide
He should have done better
SWP blows one wide - should have done better with it.
Would SWP make it into your squad for SA?
No
I would take Mikey before him
The zip seems to have gone out of this match.
There is Lennon, Milner and Beckham that plays in his position.
Owen could always score
Agreed. Lennon and Theo would be my choices in that position.
What are your predictions today?
Theo too
Five minutes left of the half for one of the sides to break the deadlock. I'm ready for my breakkies.
What did Jeff say to crack everyone up?
From Dean_Machine89 on 606: "Both sides are cancelling each other out. It's what happens when both sides play 4-5-1 with two defensive midfielders."
I didn't catch it.
6 minutes of added time
you couldn't catch a cold!
SWP has been hopeless today
Fourth official holds up six minutes of extra time, prolonging our agony. This has not been the spectacle I had been hoping for.
John Gregory agrees with me
Lucas tries a shot from Stanley Park but gets blocked
I'm off to fix the coffee - I've had enough of this.
SS talking about Heskey and Carew.
How can Fab use the excuse of not picking Owen for not playing and still pick Emile?
Just say that Owen isn't in your plans!
Half time
DIRE
Pompey United on ESPN next week at 10
Lovely jubbly
Next Sunday... two derbies.... Everton Costa and Arsenal Chelsea
Ooh, that sounds like a big Sunday!
Uh oh it's Mr Onion Bag on the half time show.
Will you be watching the MLS Cup Final? Didn't think so!
Citeh have replaced their skipper with an English U-21 player.
I'm hoping for much better in this second half. Even the crowd sound bored now. Very unlike Anfield.
Wow - Liverpool are out of the CL if Fiorentina win at home in mid-week. That doesn't sound promising.
Ian Darke asking that question that you posed earlier. Do these sides really need two holding mids, especially the home side?
Liverpool have a chance from a free kick now.
GOAL! Gerrard whips it in and I think it's an own goal but Skrtel is claiming it.
1-0 Liverpool!
I was in the loo for the goal. Just saw it again
Not very good marking by Adebayor
Liverpool up into fourth on the strength of that goal, tied on points with Spurs in fifth but with superior GD.
Any changes from any team
Well, is Adebayor really the person you want marking up in the six yard box at a free kick?
Yes, Citeh brought on Onuoha, who despite his Nigerian sounding name is apparently an England U-21 prospect. Home grown by Citeh. They said Citeh's captain came off - who is their captain?
Tevez coming on for Barry
Is SWP still on.. if so, why?
Carlito coming on for Barry. Positive choice there. Citeh need a goal, they don't really need two defensive mids now.
Yes, and I agree, he should be off.
I always wonder your point. Defenders come up for set pieces and are marked by strikers! Aren't they dangerous!
Oh dear - the ref's not happy. Yellow card for Lucas.
I'd like to see Citeh tie it up here
I guess a draw would be best
I mean, tall strikers can play a role defending at a set piece just by being another big man in the area blocking things. But just about every side has a defender who scores a lot of goals from free kicks. Who would you have marking up John Terry at a set piece - Berbatov or Rio?
That is who does!
That's quite enough of the horse placenta jokes please. I'm still enjoying my breakfast.
Well, Chelski are a particularly difficult side to mark up at set pieces because you have to worry about Drogs, Ballack, JT, Alex and even Ivanovic if he's playing.
Adebayor equalizes!!
Better corner by Craig and he was wide open!!
Big Nose not happy!
GOAL! Adeyabor levels it with a quite brilliant header. I don't know how he got the power in that. It was behind him. He was unmarked but he still had a lot of work to do. Down and into the corner beyond Reina.
1-1 - there's your result!
I've got a 2-2 draw as my prediction for this one. 1-1 would bag me 15 points.
My other predictions today:
Burnley 0 Villa 1
Chelski 3 Wolves 0
Hull 1 West Ham 1
Sunderland 1 Arse 3
United 2 Everton 0
Did you ever post your predictions?
What is your prediction for the match at the Withdean Stadium?
So then Liverpool are back where they started in 7th, Citeh in 6th. Citeh may fancy a smash and grab here. Pool have not played well.
I agree with John Gregory for a change - Tevez has made the difference.
He always did for my lot
We could really use him right now
I'm reasonably confident. We've got a good away record this season. I'll go 0-1 for the Whites. JB to score, of course.
15 minutes to get a winner
Citeh look the more likely
Snoddy with a brace is my guess
CITEH SCORE!!!
Tevez to SWP to Ireland!!
EASY PICKINS
Ireland wasn't offside? Wasn't he behind the ball
GOAL! SWP finally springs to life and supplies Ireland who tucks in. Has Skrtel gone off for an early tea?
THERE'S YOUR 2-2!!
Benayoun replies right away
GOAL! Liverpool are level! Benayoun - told you so. He always seems to score the crucial goals.
2-2!
Adebayor almost in!!
IT IS ALL HAPPENING!!
The ESPN GOAL MACHINE CONTINUES!
Suddenly the game is buzzing. Ade goes down in the area appealing for a penalty. Nothing doing.
Sparky is fuming on the bench. I'm not sure Rafa is that happy either.
If it stays the same, I bag 30 points to start the weekend. Lovely!
SWP tries one but it's well held by Reina.
SWP takes a crack!!
Could this be another 4-3er
WHY DIDN'T IRELAND SHOOT?
Breathtaking now. Where was this for the first 75 minutes!?
Liverpool's Italian signing Aquilani may be getting his chance finally. James Richardson's been big upping him on the Guardian Football Weekly. No, it seems to be Aurelio instead, so apparently Rafa is happy with the draw.
CL this Tuesday for Costa... is he saving his Italian for that?
Bloody hell - it doesn't let up for Liverpool does it? CL in midweek, when they'll probably get knocked out and then the Merseyside derby at the weekend. How long can Rafa survive?
Adios?
Useless free kick from Costa
1433: TEAMS Sunderland v Arsenal
Sunderland: Fulop, Bardsley, Da Silva, Mensah, McCartney, Malbranque, Cana, Richardson, Henderson, Reid, Bent. Subs: Carson, Ferdinand, Nosworthy, Zenden, Campbell, Murphy, Healy.
Arsenal: Almunia, Sagna, Vermaelen, Gallas, Traore, Song Billong, Ramsey, Fabregas, Rosicky, Eduardo, Nasri. Subs: Mannone, Vela, Walcott, Denilson, Silvestre, Arshavin, Eboue.
Will there be a winner? Or will it be Dahlgren with 30 points!
Why Benayoun off? He only came on as a sub in the first half. Do they pay him by the minute?
I didn't see that it was Benayoun that came off!
Interesting - Aaron Ramsey with the start for the Arse. I did hear that he was fantastic against Scotland.
He is coming off an injury. I thought he was out for a while with a hammy from the last game
Four minutes to come and then it's 30 points in the bag for me.
How many added minutes?
Tom just told me four
Gerrard has not done anything today
Oh, there's a talking point. Kuyt goes down in the box but Phil Dowd waves him off. There was some contact there with Bellamy. I don't know.
Corner to Costa
Well, in fairness, it was his brilliant free kick in for Pool's first. Skrtel just had to stick out a toe.
How do you let the ball come down to Kuyt's volley???
One more corner to come and then surely that's it. Gerrard walking at this point.
Last chance saloon.... Lucas heads it hopelessly!
That's it!!
Thirty points in the bag for RLD
Oh, Lucas was completely free six yards out and he didn't get close to hitting the target with his header. What a sitter!
That's it - 2-2 You've got to be pleased.
I've just grabbed the NYTimes off the doormat and there's an above the fold front page story titled -
"Prosecutors Hit Ring in Europe for Fixing Soccer." That doesn't sound good.
Happy Chappy
Hopefully I will feel the same after the late game!
I saw that on the internet... from Germany
I'm on to Soccer Saturday now - lovely jubbly!
I am sending a few emails
We could use some help today from Yeovil who host Charlton and Oldham who host Colchester. Fifth placed Norwich take on relegation battlers Southhampton at St. Mary's in the most intriguing L1 match-up today.
Me too
The Arse are on FSC... I have lost control of the TV at the moment!
I didn't notice that Northwich Victoria beat Charlton in the FA Cup 1st round replay. Crickey!
Looks like FSC are setting up Sunderland v. Arsenal from the Stadium of Light. We won't be hearing from the Gooner then during the match.
Great clip from you. The fan had obviously just had one of those Balti flavored pies. Or maybe a prawn sandwich from the OT canteen?
I have the TV back... Sunderland are a decent team.
Beaten Costa! Should have beaten United!
Are Arsenal in trouble
Taking the dog out for a pee
"Crack found in man's buttocks" Classic!
What dog? You lot got a dog? What kind?
Beckford and Vokes up front for the Whites today. Snoddy tucking in behind them.
Arsenal have kicked off at the Stadium of Light.
Didn't I tell you that? I know I mentioned it
We got him free from a sister of one of my colleagues at school. His name is Shadow and he is a mix between a Husky and a Shepherd.
He is 11 months old, great with kids and been fixed.
The price was perfect.
Mick McCarthy: "Don't ask me how to beat Chelsea because I don't have a clue."
At least he's honest!
I don't think you've mentioned Shadow. Nice one, mate!
WBA take an early lead... are they going to go back up just to be relegated again
The Hammers take the lead!
Way hay! West Ham have scored!
Bugger
Chelski score from Malouda
And Chelski have already scored. 1-0. I'm not sure that the 3-0 prediction is enough there. It could be a real rout.
Great play from the Arse
Nice save
Oh, Rosicky has one saved. Arsenal definitely on the front foot.
Wolves are going to WIN!!
How is that? Even their manager doesn't fancy it.
Rangers one up in Scotland
Merse has a real problem pronouncing Jozy Altidore's name. What a prawn!
Merson can't pronounce Jozy... of course, everyone puts an e sound a the end!
There's a goal somewhere... The Hammers score a second!
0-2 West Ham! They're running riot!
Sounds like another goal somewhere else... Burnley take the lead against Villa in battle of Claret and Blues
Burnley go one up!
Chelski are 2-0 up! Essien!
Wolves are going to win... from TWO nil down!
Sotton beating Norwich
Colchester winning
JB with a shot just wide. Come on, you Whites!
Fab shot from Fab... just over
Have Sunderland got out of their half?
Not much... they did in the first minute
