Holland vs. Uruguay Live!

It's semi-final time at SA 2010 and first up are Holland and Uruguay. I'm stuck at work today, so I'll look forward to reading your cogent comments on the match while I'm watching the tape delayed broadcast. Now that FIFA have wisely given Holland's first goal against Brazil to Wesley Sneijder, both he and Diego Forlan are on four goals and are a distinct Golden Boot threat to five-goal Spanish striker David Villa. Enjoy the match!

I think you meant to say David Villa. He is currently in the lead with five goals.

Howard Webb still out there... I think he will do the Final if it is an all European affair

Players Suspended for tonight

Uruguay: Jorge Fucile, Luis Suarez.
Netherlands: Gregory van der Wiel, Nigel de Jong.

Remember, only a red would keep a player out of the Final

Hello UWS! I am not sure if Wesley Schneider would be the first to achieve this unique quadruple.

Could Holland finally make a Final and not have to face the hosts?

2:13 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Th teams last met in 1974 when Holland won 2-0 in the Group Stage. Johnny Rep scored both goals. The suspension of Suarez for Uruguay will really hurt them. I expect a similar result this time around.

2:13 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Interesting facts from the Beeb
Let’s hit the form guide, shall we? Uruguay are unbeaten in their last seven World Cup matches and have conceded only two goals in the tournament so far, scoring seven. The Netherlands are breaking records with every game - they have won nine in a row and are unbeaten in 24, both national bests. If they can win their semi and final, they will become only the second team to record a “perfect World Cup campaign” after Brazil in 1970, by winning every qualification and finals match.

2:14 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

This tournament has many similarities to the 1974 tournament. I expect a repeat final with the same champions. There are so many similarities that a separate post would be needed to list all the similarities.

Diego Forlan's dad was playing in the two nil lost to Holland

2:17 PM

I was skeptical of their records at first as Scotland ( they can't play tennis as documented on Monty Python)and Norway were their most difficult opponents in qualifying. Now I am on board with Clockwork Orange.

A lot of people are being really negative towards Suarez about his handball. 606 was completely hammering him. They all felt bad for Ghana. I think any professional would have done it. All Ghana had to do was score a penalty. He didn't get away with anything... he is missing the WORLD CUP SEMI FINAL!!
Has anyone mentioned the Ghanaian who dove for the free kick in the first place!!!

Blogger United We Stand said...

Here the come the teams!!

2:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

How is this for an interesting piece of trivia? Cameroon have played one of the World Cup finalists in every tournament in which they have appeared with the exception of the 1998 tournament. They played Holland in this tournament.Another sign that the Dutch will win today?

Blogger United We Stand said...

Wrong anthem...sorry

Everyone singing though

Are you watching Three Lions?

2:26 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree.I do not feel any sympathy for Ghana. As a former defender I was guilty of the same infraction as Suarez on a few occasions and for the same exact reason. Suarez is definitely being punished.

2:26 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

All of these players have been awful singers... where's Susan Boyle when you need here?

2:26 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

We have the same ref who gave a Mueller an unnecessary yellow in the quarters causing him to miss the semis.

Bayern Munich won the European Cup in 1974. Did any of their players win the quadruple that year?

2:33 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

ooohh, Kuyt hits one just over

2:33 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That was an early chance for Holland after Kuyyt shot over. Some uncertain keeping from Muslera after a Robben cross.

2:34 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Cheeky attempt there by Uruguay!

2:36 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Alvaro Perreira tries a speculative effort from near the halfway line that still manages to clear the bar.

2:37 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Did you see that SAF is talking about bringing in Sneijder as the new Scholes

2:38 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Uruguay were just making it worst for themselves with those non-clearances

2:40 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I would love to see Schneider at OT. He would be a perfect fit.

2:40 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Forlan gives the ball away... no mental telepathy with his new partner

2:41 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That was a great piece of skill by Kuuyt on the left wing. Uruguay will not be able to get away with non-clearances against the Dutch like they did against weaker opposition.

2:41 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Kuuyt seems to be causing Uruguay problems down the left.

2:42 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sneijder gets two shots off
One blocked by a defender
Second blocked by RVP

2:43 PM

2:43 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Forlan was flagged offside. He would have been in a great position to score.

2:43 PM

Trust RVP to get in the way of a goal scoring opportunity.

16 yellows and 4 Reds

I don't remember that game against Portugal in Germany

2:44 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I am predicting a 2-0 victory to the Dutch.

2:44 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

RVP works well from the corner but then loses it!!

Get it over!!

2:46 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I remember that game. That horrible Russian ref gave a card for everything. Sepp Blatter sent him home the next day. Deco and a Dutch player who had each been sent off were talking to each other and BOTH were pointing at the ref.

WHAT A GOAL!!

VON BRONKHORST WITH A ROCKET!!

2:48 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

UPPER NINETY!! THE BALL DIDN'T MOVE OFF THE LINE OF THE SHOT!!

2:48 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

WOW! what a goal by Van Bronckhorst !!! 1-0 Holland! That was a rocket in the top corner. Shades of Arie Haan in 1978 against Germany and Italy.

2:49 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Maxi Perreira is booked for a nasty challenge on Robben.

2:51 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The gooal started when Kuyyt won the ball off a defender from a poor pass by Wesley Schneider. Six passes later and we see what might be the bets goal of the tournament.

YIKES... that hurt!!!

2:58 PM

Heitinga is down seriously injured after a high boot from Martin Caceres in the face. Heitinga is up, but is out of it.

Blogger United We Stand said...

Chris Waddle thinks the keeper could have done better for the goal.. his footwork wasn't good

3:00 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I thought Caceres made an honest attempt for the ball. Now he prevents a second Dutch goal with a last ditch tackle on Robben.

3:01 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

ooh, RVP almost puts in Robben... he doesn't get in and doesn't roll around hurt!

3:01 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Cavani should be booked for diving. That was a bloody disgrace.

3:02 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I disagree with Chris Waddle about the goal. The shot was perfectly placed. How would the keeper stop that rocket even if he did everything right?

3:03 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The diver is Suarez's replacement. In other words, Forlan is on his own up front.

3:04 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Uruguay should have done better there!

3:04 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Cavani tried to cross, but was surronded by five Dutch players.

3:06 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

These divers have been around for yonks!!
The only way to stop them is to ban them after the fact on video evidence. If they start losing game time, they'll stop

3:06 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Uruguay have not been behind in this tournament. They will have to play a more attacking game .

3:07 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree.FIFA needs to address this.

3:08 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Forlan heads well wide.

3:08 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

What will Craig Johnston say about the ball after this goal? What will FIFA say?

3:09 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Kuuyt shoots low and hard from the left, but Muslera saves at the near post.

3:10 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

FORLAN HAS TIED IT UP!!

Another long shot!!

That looked to have moved in the air

David Villa has companay

3:10 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL 1-1 AS FORLAN SCORES FOR URUGUAY! THE LEFT FOOT CURL SEEMED TO DECEIVE STECKLENBURG. I PUT THAT DOWN TO THE BALL, NOT THE KEEPER.

3:12 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Uruguay did fall behind to Ghana remember

3:12 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Free kick to Uruguay. The ball curs straight to Stecklenburg.

3:13 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Yes. Thank you. I forgot.

3:14 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The goal started with a throw from the keeper once he saved from Kuyyt. So much for my prediction.

3:15 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Two minutes of stoppage time.

3:16 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Kuuyt heads wide after a great move, but was flagged offside.

3:17 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Kuyt almost in at the back post. Linesman called it offside...NEVER!

3:17 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Half time
1-1

Not a bad half

3:17 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Halftime and 1-1. A tail of two long range. The Dutch goal was straight and true while Forlan scored a Jabulani goal.

3:18 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The second half begins.

3:34 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think Forlan's goal strengthens Craig Johnston's argument as Stecklenburg was deceived by the flight of the ball. That goal would not have been scored with a different type of ball.

3:37 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That was nearly 2-1 to Uruguay as Bouleheroz is short on the back pass and Van Bronckhorst saves the Dutch. Corner to Uruguay Forlan's corner is headed clear.

3:40 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Caceres tackles Robben and forces a corner. Van Der Vaart takes a Jabulani corner.

3:41 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Uruguay are level thanks to a bizarre swerve from Forlan. The Dutch have themselves to blame as they should have put Uruguay away early when they were dominating the match.

3:42 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am back from an errand
JP Della Camerra and Tommy Smith are idiots on the radio!!!

3:44 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Forlan and Schneider both have four goals in this tournament. The Uruguayans have done a good job of keeping Wesley Schneider quiet since the goal.

3:44 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Welcome back UWS! I dropped my wife and kids off at the dentist and made sure to schedule my appointment after the match.Out appointments are rescheduled due to the storm.

3:45 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Scheider plays a nice pass out to Robben who wins a corner. Robben's corner comes to nothing as the ref blows for a foul on Heitinga.

3:47 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Doesn't Folran have five now?

3:48 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

No he has four. Two against South Africa, one against Ghana, and one tonight.

3:49 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

RVP takes forever to get the ball over and Sneijder volleys it right back toward RVP

3:51 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

RVP crosses and Schneider mis-hits. The Dutch with a good spell of possession.

3:51 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Suarez as an Ajax must have really wanted to face the Dutch as well as having the frustration of being suspended for a World Cup Semifinal.

3:52 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Three of Forlan's goals have been long range efforts that have taken Jabulani type swerves. He seems to know the mystery behind this ball.

3:54 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Forlan free kick saved well by keeper

3:55 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Forlan lines up for a free kick within his range. Yet again a weird swerve, but Stecklenburg saves well at the near post.

3:55 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

ooh, Robben should have scored or passed it back for Sneijder!

3:56 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Newsflash... Robben was tackled and didn't fall down!!!

3:57 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Muslera saves well from Van Der Vaart and Robben blasts over with an open goal. That should have been 2-1. Will that miss come back to haunt the Dutch?

3:57 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

IT IS IN!!!

Sneijder with the goal... very strange.., two deflections by defense but not by RVP... RVP was level too

Good goal

3:59 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL 2-1 AS WESLEY SCHNEIDER PUTS THE DUTCH IN THE LEAD AND RVP PUT OFF THE DEFENDER. I THOUGHT RVP WAS LEVEL,SO THE GOAL WAS LEGITIMATE.

4:00 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

3-1!!!!!!!

Robben with the header!1

At least there are some goals going in!

4:01 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Great header!

4:02 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL 3-1 AS ROBBEN SCORES. HOLLAND HAVE CLINCHED THEIR WORLD CUP FINAL PLACE. I DO NOT SEE A WAY BACK FOR URUGUAY

4:02 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That was great run by Schneiser and a great pass wide to Kuyyt who put in a fantastic cross for Robben's header.

4:04 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Ian Darke and John Harkes are completely wrong about RVP being offside for the second goal.

4:05 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Schenider and David Villa are joint leaders with five goals each.

4:05 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I totally agree... he was level... it never touched him.
I know he was interfering but he was level anyway

4:06 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Boulheroz is booked for a foul on Caceres.

4:06 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree. RVP was nuisance by getting in the defender's way, but I don't think that is a violation of the rules.

4:08 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

El Loco has had a poor game. Uruguay are a different team without Suarez as I had expected.

4:09 PM

4:12 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Forlan was taken out???

4:12 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Forlan is substituted with ten minutes remaining. I am surprised. Is the manger conceding the match at this point?

4:13 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

An all European Final means, in my book, Howard Webb will be the referee,

4:13 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Robben should have scored his brace
Useless attempt

4:14 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree. If Dutch play Germany then it will be a repeat of the 1974 final which also had an English referee.

4:15 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Yes. What was Robben thinking?

4:16 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

There is another similarity that you spoke of before!!
