Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Sporting are actually being given a trophy!!!
Here's United's line up from ManUtd.com
United line-up:
Amos; Rafael, Smalling, J.Evans, De Laet; Nani, Scholes, Gibson, Giggs; Berbatov, Diouf. Subs: Van der Sar, Brown, Welbeck, Fabio, Obertan, Macheda, C.Evans, Cleverley.
Never heard of Amos... is he new?
Hiya, mate. I'm here to watch your Red Devils against the Wiz. Bring it on!
Welcome Bob... we are off!
Here's how Ben Amos is described on the United website:
"Ben Amos is a talented 20 year old goalkeeper who has been capped by England at youth level. The tall, Macclesfield-born custodian has worked his way through the Old Trafford ranks since the age of 11, and joined the club's Academy in July 2006."
Looks like United vs Chelsea!!
I wish United had their black socks on
I agree - it does look like United v. Chelski, albeit in a small stadium.
I do like this where KC plays now much more than the huge Arrowhead Stadium they used to be in. They share this one with a minor league baseball team. Looks much better.
Never even heard of him!!
This is at Arrowhead Stadium
What exactly is the home kit for United - black shorts, black socks? Black shorts, white socks? White shorts, black socks? White on white?
Looks like Schmeichal in the net... and he is a Dane
You'll be happy to hear that Leeds hit Hartlepool 5-0 yesterday. Jeff Stelling will be crying for sure.
Red Shirt
White Shorts
Black Socks
They wear white during European nights but it is Red, white and black
The black is in the actual official color as a memorial for Munich
We've got the heir to the Schmeichel throne now. How did you miss out on him?
See the KC Chiefs ads on the sides
Ah - gotcha - that makes sense.
Great pass by Giggs to Berba
Free kick chance
Nani will shoot
Into the wall... Scholes rifles the rebound... great shot
Bloody Hell!!!
Raf kept him on side!!
Sorry, mate!
The Chiefs play at Arrowhead. It's got a 77K capacity. Way to big for MLS. This one is Community America Ballpark, shared with the KC T-Bones. It's got 10.5K capacity. Just about right.
Come on UNITED!!!
Hey, I was watching one of the 500 best goals shows that and there was a brilliant goal by one Jermaine Beckford playing for Scunthorpe! He was loaned out by Leeds... why?
Struth - KC are really giving it a go here.
This game is at Arrowhead
What the hell was that pass!!!
Where are KC in the MLS?
Beckford's a strange one. He was originally in the Chelski youth set up but was rejected because he was a bit of party boy. I get the sense that he doesn't have the smarts to come in out of the rain. He seems to need constant man management and Blackwell and Wisey didn't want to do the hard work with the kid. Blackwell sent him out to Carlisle in 06 and Wise out to Scunthorpe in 07. It was only after we fell to L1 and Grayson came in that he was a regular for us. The rest is history.
Great pass from Giggs to Berbatov and then to Nani who then fails to get the cross over... you can have him!
Mid-table in the Eastern Division. They always seem to get up for the games against the Europeans.
I am not happy with this performance so far
Bloody hell - Smith misses a sitter. What are United up to?
Struth... that should have been two!!!
What is Smailing up to!!
That was almost in too!!
Amos was in no man's land!
If this stadium holds 77,000, why are the only 40!
When we went to Giants Stadium, it was full with 78,000 both times
I was wrong - it is Arrowhead. It looks a lot better than it usually does. They must be roping off the upper decks. It looks pretty full.
My boy Nani pulls a good save out of the Dane.
United keep giving the ball a way!
Nani breaks... saved
More United fans in NYC than in Missouri?
I've been telling you it was Arrowhead for the last half hour
Nani with a nice header
Nani produces another good save out of Nielson.
Giggsy gets a yellow for a bit of pushing and shoving there. Why?
You know I never trust you!
I have to go for a few minutes but is a penalty first
and a red!
Why a red?? It is a friendly!
Penalty! Yeah, definitely. And Conrad's got to go as well. That'll change the complexion of the match.
Berbatov was definitely brought down and he'll pop up to take this one.
Berbatov to take.... YES... 1-1
He scored in Toronto too!!!
I agree with you - why red card a player in a friendly.
Berba up and...1-1. Slots it home nicely. He looks in hungry form.
So - Berba has three goals in this pre-season or two?
Kamara with a header and it's 2-1. Rocketed off the bar and just over the line.
Giggs nearly in at the other end. Nielson well to save.
STRUTH... I GET BACK AN UNITED ARE LOSING!!
I just saw the goal... where was this linesman for the England game!!
Teams back out at the New Arrowhead Stadium for the second half.
I agree with you - that one was a much closer call than Lamps shot was. That was miles over the line. This one was only just.
Berba still on - he's seeing a lot of playing time early doors in the the pre-season. He seems hungrier.
Yes he does
Great control by Dioff but the ball would settle for him.
I don't think Berba and Nani have a good understanding
KC have switched keepers - Kronberg on. Another Scandinavian?
Oh - leave my boy Nani alone. You and Kathy just don't like him.
No we don't!!!
COME ON UNITED!!
Classic example of how referees are now calling obstructions as direct free kicks. Ridiculous. The KC player just blocked Rafael off the ball. Nothing more.
That's why!!
United have SIX in the box and Nani puts in a useless shot!!
that guy should have hit that first time at the back post
That wasn't a foul
Four wins all season and now they are beating United with TEN men
Over 50 thou!
Just over 25 minutes not to lose
Nice move from United. Berbatov passes to Diouf who shanks it.
Berba should have shot
That was close from KC!
United making some changes with just over 20 to go
Macheda, Nani and Cleverley off for not sure, Gibson and Obertan
Why aren't KC fans singing..."We've only got ten men"
Looks like Diouf was the one that made way Macheda
COME ON UNITED... I know it is a friendly but WIN IT!!
Cleverley takes a shot... I think he should have passed
Welbeck on for Berbatov
Fabio on for Delaet
The sideline reporter says that United want to speed up the pace... THEY BETTER
Good run by Obertan but didn't look up to put the cross in
First twin comment made after ten seconds of Fabio's appearance!
The top tier still have fans in it but not full
I'm back. I was on the phone with the Gooner. He's not too impressed by United's performance, btw.
Either am I
Was he at the Pompey game yesterday with DC United?
Pompey were delayed by flights and only got four hours sleep. Their kit bag was lost. They had to wear DC's away kit... Pompey lost four nil
SHOOT
Giggs and Scholes are both still out there but both haven't had their best day
What happened there with Welbeck... just hit him
10 minutes not to lose
This is two games in a row where they haven't been impressive
OOOh almost
Yeah - he was telling me all about Pompey's travails. Sounded pretty sad sack. The only good news for them is that they had a really good away support, including that bloke who paints himself Blue and bangs on the cowbells for 90 minutes. Apparently they took over the Screaming Eagles home section and took turns singing both D.C. United and Pompey songs. Good old time.
if this stays the same... is it worse than being twonked by Bury!!!
Warren Barton is big upping the MLS. Good for him -- he knows who's buttering his bread, eh?
Wow, that sounds good
Hey - don't mention the Bury match.
Come on Welbeck.. what was that cross!!
We bounced back well, you know.
How?
Has Macheda scored for you lot since the last minute effort against Villa?
He scored in the next match against Sunderland with a a deflection. The only goal of the match
5-0 against Hartlepool yesterday. Jeff Stelling crying in his beer last night. Goals from Becchio, Snoddy, Howson, Johnson.
Lovely
And then....anything?
The matches in NY today had NO injury time in either game
I hope this isn't the same
Come on United.. don't lose... to ten men
Don't think so
I don't actually think this is like losing 4-0 to Bury.
I'm not sure that this ref understands the rule that he's supposed to play on until United equalize...and then he blows up.
Three added minutes
NOT THAT FAR OFF!
52K is great for Missouri.
United trying to many fancy little dips into the box!
Desperate defending by the Wiz here.
Nice effort by Cleverley but I think there were more options
So who gets the hairdryer from Fergs?
United have no ideas... that was awful by Evans
And that's it! Roll out the confetti cannons!!
Game over!!!
KC jump into the air!
Kansas City 2 Manchester United 1
I know it is a friendly but I am not happy!!!
United players look shagged. Is it that hot today?
Very close to losing to Bury!!
Take care Bob
UWS
You're lucky that Don Garber doesn't have a wee trophy to bring out for the Wiz here. I would never put it past the MLS.
Cheers, mate. Don't be too bothered by this one. Talk to you soon.
I'm not... bring on the All-Stars!
Take care
Sorry I missed this chat.
The United game was really fun because Pompey's away support are the best we've ever entertained at RFK. First of all, for some reason we've got a recorded version of God Save The Queen that goes for two verses. That always trips up the visitors. First, they're not expecting national anthems, and second, they start jogging in place at the end of the first verse only to have snap back to attention.
John Portsmouth FC was in the audience and stadium security did not know what he's about. They blocked him off once because he was leading a conga line into the Screaming Eagles nest. Then I think that a DC and a SE rep told them to stand down and the Pompey support conga-ed down into the SE nest and led a chorus of the Pompey Chimes which morphed into "DC U-nited, DC U-nited" to the same song. Really fun.
On the field however, it got really chippy. Mullens was sent off for kicking out at Quaranta, and then Quaranta reacted to Michael Brown's provocation by spitting at him. Off he went too. Notwithstanding the 101F field temperature, DC was excellent and Pompey pretty abject.
We've had some fun nights against English clubs. My favorite prior to this was when we played Forest to a tie and their players were pretty shagged by the heat and were shaking hands and ready to swap tops. But the ref ran over and said," no-no-no, we're settling this tonight. March 5 of your boys over to take penalties!"
Then, Presthus saved one of their penalties and we scored all 5 of ours. Cue the confetti cannons and the presentation of some tin object we called the Friendship Cup! The bewilderment on the Forest boys' faces was priceless.
I am sorry that I was not able to chat yesterday, but I did watch all the matches yesterday. We were visiting and did not have Internet access.Spurs vs Sporting was an entertaining match while Citeh and United were disappointing. However, everything must be put into perspective. This was a preseason match where several reserves with no EPL experience were playing. The heat and humidity was oppressive compared to Manchester. It would be appropriate for SAF to give the hairdryer treatment, but I would prefer a poor performance in preseason than in the EPL or CL. United have made slow starts to a season in the past and have still won the EPL. I feel optimistic about the new season. I will not be able to join LOB Wednesday as I will be at the match. You might spot me. Finally a side note. My brother played against Peter Vermes, the Wiz manager, during his junior and senior years in high school. He told me that Vermes was compatible to the JV players at Lakenheath and wasn't sure what the fuss was.He said the goals were scored against JV level defenses. Well that is my opinion. Take care everyone.
Great story Gooner
Have a great time MUR... wish i was going too
I agree. That was a great story by Gooner. I wish you all could come with me. Maybe some time in the near future.
