The teams are out at Eastlands observing a moment's silence due to the tsunami that hit Japan last Friday.
The teams kick off at Eastlands with both sides wearing blue. Citeh wearing sky blue and Kiev a darkish royal blue. I think Kiev should wear a different kit as those colors clash.
Citeh need to overcome a two goal deficit to force extra time.
Silva took a corner for Citeh and the keeper punched clear. The eventual outcome was a goal kick as Balotelli shot over from close range.
Hart made a decent save from a long range effort by a Kiev player. A goal Kiev would be curtains for Citeh as far as their European campaign is concerned.
Still no Europa league goals to report from the four matches being played at this time.
Kiev have a free kick in a dangerous position. The free kick is lofted in and headed away.
Kolorov wins a corner for Citeh and he will take it. Citeh nearly scored as Balotelli leaps high to head inches over the bar. The keeper seemed to have it covered in all honesty.
Yaya receives a lecture for a foul while his brother is in the stands sitting next to Kap.
Kiev attempted a counter, but the pass was overcooked and bounced off the corner flag.
Zenit St. Petersburg have taken the lead against Twente on the night.Twente still lead 3-1 on aggregate.
Spartak Moscow have taken the lead against Ajax as Russian sides are having joy against Dutch sides.Spartak now lead 2-0 on aggregate.
Afternoon, MUR - I calculated wrong with the Spring Forward business. I'm just about to leave work and will join you at home shortly. Thanks for the post.
Kiev is very well organized as Citeh are having difficulty breaking down this side. They have won some corners and Balotelli has had two chances.
My pleasure, BD. I look for ward to your company as Kompany is a defender with Citeh.
Benfica have now taken the lead at PSG and lead 3-1 on aggregate. I would think Benfica are home and dry into the quarters.
A cross from the right created havoc in the Kiev defense as there was a lack of communication between the keeper and his back four.
This is the only Europa League tie without a goal this evening.
Spartak now lead Ajax 2-0 on the night and 3-0 on aggregate.I would think that Spartak have sealed their place in the quarters.
Silva wins a corner off of Sheva.
Kolorov takes and Kiev head clear. Balotelli wins another corner.
PSG have tied it up on the night against Benfica, but trail 2-3 on aggregate. They need one more goal to force extra time.
Balotelli shows what an idiot he is as he is sent off for a karate kick on Popov of Kiev. Looked like he was aiming for the groin area. What was he thinking? It is now an uphill bATTLE FOR A cITEH A MAN DOWN AND TWO GOALS DOWN ON AGGREGATE.
Ayila of Kiev is booked for a late tackle on Tev just outside the box.
GOAL !! kOLOROV SHOT OFF A SHORT FREE KICK FROM JUST OUTSIDE THE BOX. 1-0 CITEH , BUT THEY STILL TRAIL 1-2 ON AGGREGATE MOMENTS AFTER BALOTELLI WAS SENT OFF.
kIEV HAVE THEIR FIRST CORNER, TAKE IT SHORT AND SHOOT TAMELY at Hart from long range.
Citeh is back in this tie despite being a player down.
Zenit now lead Twente 2-0 and are back in the tie trailing 2-3 on aggregate to Twente.
Tev is booked for yelling at the linesman when he thought he should have had a throw. Did he use inappropriate language.
A great Citeh move where Silva was skillful and Yaya drags his shot well wide. , so 1-0 to Citeh at the half, but they trail 1-2 on aggregate and are a player down due to Balotelli's x- rated karate kick.
The other halftime scores are
PSG 1 Benfica 1 (2-3 on aggregate)
Spartak 2 Ajax 0 ( 3-0 on aggregate )
Zenit 2 Twente 0 ( 2-3 on aggregate)
Kiev make a substitution as Ninkovic is on for Ziruvla or vice versa.
The second half kicks off from Eastlands.
I'm home and looking for a link for the match now. I'm really sorry that I missed Ballo's kung fu kick. Was it as good as King Eric's?
Welcome BD!King Eric's was calculated while Balotelli's was randomly aimed and hit the player in the stomach.
I'm up and running with a decent link for the Sport 3 coverage. Looks like the second half has just kicked off.
That was nasty as Tev and a Kiev player are down after a clash.
Looks like things are pretty tight in a number of matches - only Sparktak look home and hosed at present.
Tevez looks battle-weary.
I am on atdhe.me with video, but no audio. Almeida is booked for that clash. He could have easily seen red.
FSC are treating us to a repeat of Sunday's Rome derby - does anyone really watch Serie A outside of Italy these days? What a colossal bore!
The free kick from Silva is headed well over by Micah Richards.
I don't watch Serie A.
And ESPN2 are favoring us with the "Winter X Games" whatever the hell those are. I ask you!
There is too much high quality footer around to bother with inferior leagues. Look at this week. We've been pre-occupied on Saturday and Sunday morning, plus Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.
Just a reminder that the CL qurter/ semi draw will take place tomorrow at 12 CET. I think that equates to 7 AM EDT and 6 AM CDT. I will wait until I awake to see the results of the draw.
That was a decent long range effort by Yarmalenko, but Hart had it covered.
Citeh don't seem affected by having to play with ten match. They're going for it.
Silva's shot is deflected for a corner, but he should have shot earlier after a great long ball. The corner is to be retaken after some handbags.
Citeh scored about two minutes after the red card.
Kompany and Popov, the recipient of the Kung Fu challenge are down.
Spartak now lead Ajax 3-0 on the night and 4-0 on aggregate.
Sheva has had a really quiet match , but Kiev is attacking more than in the first half.
Sheva was dynamite last week but he seems off the pace this week. It's somewhat gratifying to see his return to form after his disastrous stint at Chelski.
Ajax are a shadow of their former selves at this point. A bit sad.
Kompany picks up a yellow card for a nibble. Btw, I enjoyed your pun on his name in the first half. Nice one!
That seemed a soft yellow as Kompany barely made contact. The play acting by Kiev players is sickening and it doesn't help to have a ref that is easily conned.
And now it's Sheva's time to exit after what you described as a "quiet" match.
Thanks, BD. I thought you would like that.
I don't think Yaya has a case with that last foul.
A little less than half an hour for Citeh to pull this tie out of the ashes.
Yes, he was fairly anonymous. That is strange as Kiev is playing a 4-4-2, so he cannot use the excuse that he was up front alone.
The keeper does well to come out and block from Silva, then the Kiev defense clears.
Hart tips a long range effort out for a corner.
I think this is Kiev's first corner.Lescott did well to head off the line.
Oh - Kiev come close but Lescott nods off the line. Close thing for Citeh there.
The Kiev coach is out barking instructions. He does not seem to be happy with what he is seeing.
The Citeh fans starting to get restless with the patient build-up. They want a goal badly.
More play acting as that was a fair tackle by Kolorov, but the idiotic ref is conned again and awards a free kick.
Where is this idiotic ref from?
Citeh fans need to be patient as they need only goal to force extra time.
Derisive applause from the home crowd after Citeh are awarded a free kick.
Adam Johnson preparing to come on to give an extra zip to the Citeh front line.
I am not sure, but UEFA and FIFA need to do better research before appointing these refs. However he did get it right with the red card.
Adam Johnson is on for what I think was the useless Gareth Barry.
UWS's "most overrated player in world football" Gareth Barry to come off for Johnson.
That's shows you the problem with playing Adam Johnson out wide right. He got to the by-line but didn't have the confidence to swing a cross over.
Silva picks up a yellow card there.
UEFA needs to do something about this play acting. If they have any pride then they would not want a team winning one of their tournaments by play acting instead of playing football. Platini and UEFA may not give a toss and may just want some team's name on the trophy.
What a howler by the Kiev keeper for the Kolarov goal!
Enjoyed the Ballo kung fu effort but it's not a patch on Cantona's.
I did not think the challenge from Silva warranted a yellow. The ref was conned again. Should I buy something from him with counterfeit money. I like my chances.
I agree with you about the playacting.
Dzeko to come on in a moment. Mancini rolling the dice....
Silva is replaced by Dzeko after making that great run.
Mancini has to gamble with Citeh a goal down on aggregate.
Silva jogging off to be replaced by Dzeko.
I've got some prime beachfront property on offer in case this ref's interested.
Citeh win a corner as that sliced clearance could have gone anywhere. The keeper gathers the corner.
De Jong is booked, but it was legit, IMHO.
Nigel De Jong with his trademark lunge. Yellow for sure. Yep!
The ref must have heard our comments as he was not interested this time. He should have booked the player for simulation.
im here
wjhat are you watching
The keeper was nearly caught at his near post as he forces a corner.
We're watching the tail end of Citeh v. Kiev. I'm here:
http://www.freee-sports.com/free-sports1.htm
Hello UWS. We are watching Citeh vs Kiev.
Afternoon, UWS!
Of course you can always watch a bit of scintillating "Winter X Games" action on the Deuce if you prefer.
I'm assuming that the Liverpool v. Braga match starts up at the top of the hour, if I haven't miscalculated things again.
There is about ten minutes remaining if you add stoppage tie, unless Citeh score another and force extra time.
Kiev have a corner that will waste more time.
Dzeko hasn't had a sniff since coming on but he is the kind of player who only needs one half chance to change a game. Tev is the same but he hasn't scored in yonks!
Kiev win a corner and will take their bleedin' time with it.
Ive got a good look through atdhe
Balotelli is a numpty
Citeh are just not clicking at all.
Total liability. I wonder if he'll be the scapegoat if Citeh fall here today.
Hart does well to tip over Eremenko.
Why did it start so early?
One last roll of the dice for Mancini - Jamie Milner about to come on.
I have no idea - I was caught on the hop by that too, UWS.
I made a goof on my post. Two British sides are in action at the top of the hour. Liversox hosts Braga and Rangers host PSV. Which match will we watch?
i dont want Citeh to lose. I want them tired for the semi
I wonder if there are two difference times for television purposes and due to the time zone difference in Eastern Europe.
The goalscorer Kolarov coming off for Milner.
Citeh arent creating much! they should be all out attack
Definitely the Scousesox at Anfield. They're 1-0 down on the night and will have to play. I cannae give a crap about Scots footie.
5 added minutes
Yeah, I agree, UWS. There should be an all-out siege on the Kiev goal now.
I want Citeh to go through too, but they don't look like scoring.
So now Citeh have left-footed Adam Johnson on the right wing and right-footed Jamie Milner on the left wing. Drives me bonkers, it does.
I always want the English sides to do well.
Rangers drew 0-0 in Eindhoven so they could be in the quarters, but all eyes will be on the match at Anfield.
Kiev make a sub to waste time.
Another corner to Citeh, swung over by Johnson. Goes all the way through for a throw. Wasted.
Two minutes remaining.
2 to play
Oh - great take down and sharp shot by Dzeko. Excellent technique but the keeper was in the right place.
Citeh now have a free kick in a promising position.
There still doesn't seem to be a lot of urgency inside the ground at Eastlands.
Citeh have a free kick chance...almost touched!
Citeh free kick now....
The free kick by Yaya is easily saved by the keeper.
Yaya over it and...
Oh - Tev nearly got a touch on it.
Now Kiev is wasting time and the ref is letting them get away with it.
under 1 minute!
Citeh are going to be dumped out
Whacko boy has to go off because of being allergic to grass in Keiv and now getting sent off!
Into the last minute of stoppage time. Lescott fouls and that's got to be about it now.
Now Yaya is booked for a foul.
Dzeko is at least giving it a go. Just about bought a free kick there.
Silly yellow card there for Yaya.
IT IS OVER AND CITY ARE OUT!!
So much for any problem with the FA Cup Semi final!
Gotta go for a few minutes.. I'll be back for the LiverSox
So Kiev is through 2-1 on aggregate as the ref signals the end of the match. Let's hop that the Liversox and Rangers fare better.
That's it! Citeh are dumped out of Europe. Will they have the consolation of a Champions League berth next season?
I'm on to this one now for the Scousesox v. Braga match.
http://www.show-sports.net/Channel%201.html
Blimey - how much does Ray Houghton look like Jimmy Tarbuck now?
Another final. PSG 1 Benfica 1
Benfica is through 3-2 on aggregate, ending French involvement in Europe this season.
Spartak 3 AJAX 0 AS sPARTAK GO THROUGH 4-0 ON AGGREGATE.
Zenit 2 Twente 0, but Twente hold on to go through 3-2 on aggregate.
Only one second half goal was scored

Where the hell is Luis Suarez - Cup tied?
Ajax
The teams are out of the tunnel for a moment's silence due to the tsunami.
DId you guys see the Cricket World Cup score today?
England had a must win today against the Windies. They started really badly but scored 240 odd... they won by 20 runs!
They are into the quarters if SA beat Bangladesh or India beat the Windes
Nice minute silence for Japan
Any Carroll will start for Liversox since Luis Suarez is cup tied. Liversox needs to overcome a one goal deficit as the match kicks off.
I agree. That is how it should be at all stadiums.
Kick-off!
I am off for a walk with the wife and dog in some very mild weather.. my favorite type of weather... it is balmy
Be back soon
Reina is making his 300th appearance for Liversox this evening.
Thanks for clearing up the Suarez issue, lads.
It is gorgeous today - enjoy, mate!
Take care UWS.
Porto have taken the lead against CSKA Moscow as they now lead 2-0 on aggregate.
Danny Wilson concedes a free kick just outside the box. A chance for Braga.
The free kick goes into the wall and is cleared.
Carroll is flagged offside as he was through from a nice long ball.
My walk has been delayed with a phone call
Oh - Joe Cole pulls a great reaction save from the Braga keeper.
Nice attempt by Carroll.. I wish he went to United
And now it's Carroll just wide from the corner. Good start from Pool.
Would you trade Roon for Carroll?
Cole forces a nice save from the keeper after a nice header down from Carroll. Then Carroll heads just wide as Liversox players were claiming hand ball prior to the corner.
Is Carrol #29? They couldn't come up with a better numbe9?
Didn't he get 9 when Torres left
Liversox have another corner to be taken by Mireles.
Europa League Danny: "Incredible. Hulk nets for FC Porto inside three minutes to put them 1-0 up on CSKA Moscow and 2-0 on aggregate. Fightback needed if they're to join fellow Muscovites Spartak in the last eight."
Wow - that's bold. I'm not sure that Fergie would agree with you.
Man City boss Roberto Mancini: "It's a disappointing result. We deserved another goal tonight. We played a fantastic game with only 10 players. I didn't see the [Mario Balotelli] incident from the bench so I can't comment. But we would have won the game with 11 players on the pitch."
I would train Roon for Carroll too. I am not sure about the shirt number as Carroll cam to Anfield before Torres left. He could be number 9 next season.
Have you been impressed with Rooney since his injury in Munich? He has a had couple of good goals but pants!
Nice backheel from Maxi but Carroll was just a shade offside.
I thought he DID pick #9
The announcer answered the question about number 29. He stated by UEFA rules that since Torres wore 9 earlier in a European competition that Carroll cannot wear #9 in the same season.A weird rule.
He did pick #9. There are pictures!
I haven't. I have to say that since I started reading "The Fix" I've started to become very suspicious of certain footballers. There's the allegation that Roon lost loads gambling and he'd be a prime target for Chinese bookies. It would explain the dire play with occasional flashes of brilliance.
Rangers have conceded at Ibrox
They now have to score twice
Reina comfortably saves a long range shot.
Poor night for the British clubs tonight. We could easily see all three go out.
Off for my walk now
Be back
It doesn't look good for Rangers. That match cannot go to extra time since the goal was scored.
Take care,UWS . see you later.
Walkies!
Bob, did you read my comment as to why Andy Carroll cannot wear #29 tonight?
Both Liverpool and Rangers trail 0-1 on aggregate, but Rangers need two goals.
I did - that is a really weird rule!
It is balmy in Harlingen. It is 85 and breezy. Glad that you are having better weather than yesterday
The corner from Mireles is wasted as Carroll is called for a foul.
Relatively balmy here too at 62F. I had a lovely walk to and from work today.
Half way through the first half now. The nerves will start to jangle if Pool don't score soon.
That is great weather. I think I would prefer your weather over mine. I don't blame the Nocitos for going on walkies. Much better weather than yesterday.
Braga have a corner and Reina punches clear.
Ironic cheers as Liversox have a decision go their way. I am concerned that Liversox have not been a threat. Braga have been the slightly better side.
Porto now lead CSKA 2-0 and are ahead 3-0 on aggregate.
Yeah - the weather will be brilliant from now on through the middle of October. I love being able to walk over to work while reading a good book and listening to some good music on my iPod.
Half an hour in and Pool have gone a bit off the boil since that lively start to the match.
So far we've got these sides into the EL quarter-finals:
Dynamo Kiev
Benfica
Spartak Moscow
Zenit St. Pete's
With Villareal, Porto and Braga also doing well tonight, it's looking like Eastern Europe v. Iberia in the quarters.
The color guy thinks that there haven't been "any real chances" in this first half. Uh - was he watching the first five minutes when you had a Joe Cole point blank shot and then a Carroll free header just wide?
Half time creeping up on Pool. Corner...
