Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

I wish I could join you but I will be at Kathy's dad house waiting for a clock man to show up. I will be able to watch it but will have no computer to be on the blog
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
I can join you for a few minutes, but will have a class to teach starting around 3:25 EST. Wish I could stay longer.
De gea is dropped , but will kepp his place. What exactly does that mean?
Afternoon, lads. Hoping for the best from your lads - a New Year's bounce back, eh?
The team news out of the Toon tonight:
Newcastle: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon, Taylor, Tiote, Cabaye, Gutierrez, Shola Ameobi, Ba.
Subs: Harper, Perch, Vuckic, Obertan, Ben Arfa, Sammy Ameobi, Best.
United - Lindegaard, Valencia, Ferdinand, Jones, Evra, Park, Carrick, Giggs, Nani, Berbatov, Rooney.
Subs: De Gea, Anderson, Hernandez, Welbeck, Rafael Da Silva, Pogba, Lingard.
Referee: Howard Webb (S Yorkshire)
Newcastle make two changes following their 3-1 loss at Liverpool, with Davide Santon and Shola Ameobi replacing Haris Vuckic and former Old Trafford man Gabriel Obertan
Roon and Drac up front together - cor, Fergie has finally got a clue!
How on earth is St James' now the Sports Direct Park - that's blasphemy!
Good afternoon,BD. I agree. That is a disgraceful name for the stadium.
Do you have a link for the match?
So, Newcastle get us underway. Anders Lindegaard gets an early touch. It's a huge decision to replace DeGea with him tonight.
Had a link for firstrowsports then lost it.
I'm home watching on FSC, but I'll look for one for you.
First Row seems to be crocked.
Thanks,BD I appreciate it.
Oh - big chance there for Newcastle. Cleared out.
This one's working, mate:
http://atdhe.ws/live.php?v=event_id%3D76488%26tid%3D232632%26channel%3D0%26layout%3Dpopup%26Itemid%3D327.html
It's the last link on atdhe.we if you aren't able to copy that link.
Everton have kicked off with Bolton at what I'm hoping is still Goodison Park and not the Lucozade Stadium or some other bollocks.
Valencia seemed to lash out at Gutierrez there and was called on it.
Cheers BD. I finally got it to work, but have some pesky gray box saying I need a plug in in the way.
Two pundits have already referred to Tim Krul as "The Flying Dutchman" today. Why is he necessarily "flying." are all Dutch goalkeepers presumed to be "Flying Dutchmen?"
That grey box will eventually disappear, I think.
I will be here for ten minutes before my class starts.I guess it's still 0-0
Oh - poor ball over from my boy Nani there. He really should have done better when he was slipped through by Valencia.
I have Spanish commentary because I must have gone on the wrong link, but some links didn't even pass the district's filtering policy. This one happened to work.
Still 0-0 here and at Goodison.
The link I found was the same FSC coverage I'm watching.
No footie to speak of tomorrow - what on earth am I going to do with my time?
As the old story goes, I don't want to tell you what happened, but you didn't miss any goals. Do you remember that skit?
Not sure BD. Do you want to fly down and sub for me?
A draw is not good enough. We need a win today.
As it stands, United are two points back and 8 goals shy of Citeh.
A free kick from Roon is deflected over for a corner.
You do, indeed.
Did you see that Bachmann dropped out today?
I'll be updating the PPP standings tomorrow, since we'll now be going into the FA Cup 3rd round.
I saw that, but I also came home to find that Rick Perry flew back to Texas last night but then has decided to carry on to South Carolina - what a wally!
Did Roon just miss a good chance ? I couldn't tell due to the gray box.
I agree. If he were a horse he would have been shot. A quote from Brian Clough.
I am sorry BD, but I need to depart as I have a class getting ready to start. It was great chatting with you.
Cheers
Big shout for a pen as Ba hits the turf, but Howard Webb is non-plussed about the whole incident. He's a bald man so I trust him.
Have a great class, mate!
A lot of effing and blinding from Roon to Howard Webb over that call. He should be booked just on that level.
A furious tempo to this match now.
Toon fans making a hell of a noise!
Half an hour in - lots of cut and thrust but precious few real chances.
Pardew is having absolute kittens on the touchline about some of Webby's decisions now.
GOAL! It's that man Ba again! His 15th of the season!
Did you see Borstal Botherer Barton had his red upheld? Hoping Warnock gets a bit of a shoeing too.
I thought this reader comment from the guardian website was choice.
On Barton, "Joey Barton is at least true to his roots - you can see many of his ilk in areas like Huyton, shifty-eyed, tracksuit-wearing sly little chancers, The bastard offspring of Geoffrey Howe and Maggie if you'll forgive the image.”
Route 1 from Krul, Ameobi knocked it on and Ba did the rest, turning and volleying in one movement. Great hit!
1-0!
United back down to 45 points then.
Newcastle up to 33 but still in 7th.
Oh - Ba did really well there jinking his way through the midfield before Giggs hacked him.
Ryan Taylor over this free kick effort....
Well over.
Everton and Bolton are at 0-0 at half-time.
Not quite sure who's going to get the Fergie hairdryer routine after that first half but something's got to change. I hate to say it, but my boy Nani has been poor. I might yank him in favor of Welbeck in the second half.
Hiya, Gooner. I just saw that you commented while I was posting on the Ba goal.
On Barton, I was surprised to see that the FA upheld the red as the replay showed that there was no contact. Perhaps a bit hard done by but his reputation proceeds him.
On the Guardian reader's comment, I'm not happy with the anti-working class sentiment. There's far too much of that fear of the "hoodie" going about in middle-class, Home Counties, Tory-voting circles and of course Cameron loves to stoke that alone with the anti-immigrant stuff. Barton's clearly a flawed individual but I don't think his background's to blame for that.
United get us underway in this second half, probably one of the most important halves of their season.
Crikey - Ba has started off where he finished the first half running at pace. He's causing Phil Jones fits here and Jones picks up a yellow bringing him down clumsily.
Cabaye seems to fancy a shot here...
GOAL! What a strike from Cabaye! I think Lindegaard just got touch but it went in off the crossbar.
2-0 Newcastle!
United right up against it now. They've got to dig themselves out of a huge hole. I'd start bringing the subs on right about now.
More pressure from Newcastle here.
Finally - here comes Welbeck. I don't know why Fergie had to wait this long. He and Chicha should have come on straight after the second goal went in.
Berbatov off - I don't get that at all. Nani, Park and Giggs have been rubbish today.
Oh - Roon thought he had scored one there but it was cleared off the line quite brilliantly!
Still 0-0 at Goodison - sounds like a bore.
Less than half an hour now for United to pull out a miraculous result. They'd be happy with a point now, to be honest.
Cheik Tiote has a problem now. Looks like a hammy.
And finally Park goes off for Chicha.
That should have happened a good twenty minutes ago. Roon to drop back into midfield - why?
Newcastle are showing here the advantage that playing a true front pairing gives you - it's old fashioned and exciting football.
I am home and United are pathetic
The other matchnis 1 1
Bolton tied it up after TIM HOWARD scored from hisnown box
Rooney off....keep him off
Bloody hell! Timmy Howard has scored for Everton! Here's how the 365 website describes it: "Yes, you are reading this correctly as Howard's long clearance is caught by the wind and the ball bounces over the head of Bogdan to find the back of the net."
1-0 Toffees!
Tough typing on iPad
And Charles N'Zogbia has nullifed Timmy's freak goal straight from the kick-off. 1-1 there.
Why are United so bad?
Hiya, Dave - sorry about this scoreline. United have just been flat. Roon came off a moment ago to a hero's ovation - from the Toon Army!
I have been watching it all...been disgusted
Their passing has been atrocious.....again
Well, you definitely have to sort out the goalkeeping situation and you need some more cover at center back. I reckon that Vidic and Evans are probably your best pairing right now, but Rio is clearly past it (I'll be really irritated if he makes the England squad) and Phil Jones - like David Luiz - is not a center back!
Well said....hugely disappointing
That's why we bought him
STAY ONSIDE JAVIER
You also need some guile in midfield. There's a real imbalance there, where you often play three or four wingers as if that will make up a midfield. Today it was Nani, Valencia and Giggs all in midfield, two of them playing on the wrong side. Welbeck's also a wide man and you've also got Ashley Young injured. That's probably two wide men too many. I'd probably let Giggsy retire in the summer. You need a real playmaker so that Roon isn't tempted to drift back into midfield so often.
United need to stop complaining about everything and look how they are playing
Giggs has been atrocious
Philippe Albert looks as if he's been enjoying the coq au vin a wee bit too much.
Gary Cahill has fired Bolton into the lead at Goodison Park.
A Bolton win today would put some real pressure on QPR and Wolves.
I can't stand the commentator loving Roon being in his own 6 yard box.....stay up front
I wouldn't mind Roon to leave
Hiya Bob,
I don't think that's the sentiment. I read that reader comment to mean that the ravages of Howe and Thatcherite policies could only spawn horrible little ASBO cretins like Barton. Huyton is about as far as you can get from the Home Counties by the way. It's one of those horrible Merseyside suburbs.
Tell you another think, whether or not the borstal botherer connected doesn't enter into it! Barton meant to connect with the guy and it was the other guy who flinched and didn't allow the connection. It's not a "did he get a touch on the ball before clattering the man" or "were his hands up or out of the way when the ball hit him" situation. Barton put his head in the bloke's mush, period.
Nani sucks
Anderson sucks
Hernandez has been useless
Has anyone played well?
Hopeless cross
And actually Bob, just a casual stroll through Barton's history on Google does reveal that he's from Huyton, estate born and raised and he's got a brother doing life for a racially motivated murder. Textbook ASBO.
Dear oh dear - what was that?
United should have won at Old Trafford against this lot..and now this
Bloody he'll. Jones OG
Citeh's title?
Have United failed to score yet in a league match?
Still a lot of football to be played.
Get up Nani
I should warn MUR not to watch
The referee blows the whistle on a memorable night for the Toon fans but one that United's faithful will want to forget.
I have a feeling that Fergie will already be thinking about the weekend and....Citeh! Phew!
Bolton beat Everton 2-1
Yes - probably so. He deserves better after a long day of teaching.
Cheerio, mate. I'm going to try to tag onto the threads this weekend.
Take care Bob... I am disgusted
Hey lads I read the comments and all I can say is that everyone was spot on. I really don't know who had a decent performance. I sat through the match feeling extremely frustrated and even though I didn't know the score I could tell by the way we were playing that we weren't going to score. The only chance was that one shot cleared off the line by former Man Yoo trainee, Danny Simpson. We just couldn't create anything and were porous at the back.It 's as if we must buy during the January transfer window as nobody in our squad seems to be able to get us out of the slump.
