Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

The coveted LOB Shield

It looks like the Euro Predictions game is neck and neck between WHR and Thomas. But for now, I give you the current holder, the Blue Devil.

I'm not out of this one yet - as Chuck Heston would say, "From my cold, dead hands!"

I think Bob should keep it until next May
It is, after all, the Premier League Prediction League

I think your son may have something to say to that. Honestly, I do think it should rotate among us as much as possible. I'll be happy to give it up to the winner of the Euro 2012 Predictions game. If nothing else, maybe someone else can figure out who the character is in the middle of the shield. I reckon it's Louis XIV. Others have guessed Napoleon and Bach.

I never could figure out the character, but definitely someone from that time period. I had told Bob that there should be a separate trophy for the Euro and World Cup predictions with that person holding the trophy for two years. I agree with UWS because Bob would be relinquishing the trophy one week after receiving it while someone who wins it in an odd numbered year would keep it for a full year. That is my opinion, but I am not sure if I am correct.

Bob needs to keep it for a season!

We do need something else for the two year competitions!

As for the bloke... IT AIN'T NAPOLEON! He never wore a wig! It is some french king... some Louis!!

Agreed UWS. As for the king, it must be vintage sixteen mate!

The Napoleon comment came from the shop assistant. I walked by this shop coming back from dinner out and saw the shield through the window. The next day, I called the shop to have them set it aside so I could send Eric over to pick it up. The shop assistant found it and said, "it's a brass tray or shield with Napoleon on it, yes?" I got really excited because wouldn't it have been absolutely epic to pass around a shield with Bony's mug on it? I was only very mildly disappointed when I got home to see that it was more like Louis XIV or possibly Louis XVI. The point is, it's a ridiculously big hunk of metal that our wives are going to absolutely hate having to live with for a year. After we presented it to Bob, it was lying around upstairs and Melanie said, "when are you going to present it?" I told her we had already. "You didn't win it, did you?" she panicked!

I'm off to a few antique stores here tomorrow to see if I can pick up another hunk of metal that our WAGS will hate that can be used for the even years tournaments.
