Welcome o the rerun of the 1955 FA Cup Final or of course the 1976 League Cup Final
Denis Tuart to score a bicycle kick to win it!
5 live commentator Darren Fletcher on Twitter: "Balotelli not in the City squad - Mancini says no injury but Balotelli needs to train better."
Lovely Jubbley
ESPN 2 starts on time
Morning, UWS. I'm back from an early morning bagel run and the ESPN2 preview show is coming on. I didn't get much sleep last night, as I was thinking a lot about those kids and teachers who were killed in Conn yesterday, but I'm hoping that the footer will take my mind off it for a few hours.
How are you doing, mate?
Okay...I'm not liking the show already... too much of Citeh's comebacks last season!
Morning BD
I feel the same way about the tragedy in Conn
Just stunning
I hope the footie does its' job
There are two matches today with the same theme
Manchester vs North East
Thanks for the link, mate - it's going strong.
Some interesting elements in the team news. On the Newcastle side, no Ben Arfa. Shame - he makes them tick. First time that Cisse and Ba have been played up front together - why? That seems mad!
Balo not even on the bench for Citeh - really in the doghouse after last week's shenanigans. Tev and Aguero up front for them.
Neither is Nasri!
I don't know why those two haven't played up top together. This year, Ba has been in the middle and Cisse out wide. Last season it was flip-flopped
The Toon faithful having a bit of a pogo to the Ramones' immortal "Blitzkrieg Bop" now. Lovely.
I'd only play Nasri if Silva is injured or knackered. There's no point to playing them together as they cover the same turf. I'd have a wide man in rather than him.
Well... his wall work was very much criticized by Mancini... he did just hide behind the other two men!
I can't believe that all the talk is that United are so far ahead!!
United were 8 points up with four to play last season. We all know what happened
That is a SLIGHTLY better position than 6 up with 22 to play!!
And turned his head when the ball was fizzing at him!
Away we go.. COME ON UNITED!!
Yeah - but you have to admit that six points is a big lead at this point of the season. United are usually stronger in the second half.
Here we go, then! Kickoff!
Oh - tremendous save by Joe Hart there, down low to his right. Cisse with a nice turn and shot.
Of course, Chelsea don't have a game in the Prem this week. They play in Japan tomorrow?
Southampton must have been the team Chelsea would have played
OOOH... Cisse with a nice effort well saved by Hart
Good morning lads .And Hart has to make a great save.
COME ON YOU TOON!
Yeah - I'm hoping they'll be well jet-lagged for Wednesday's match.
Morning, MUR - how are you, mate?
I don't think this lead means anything!
This United team do lose at home to Spurs
Do lose away at Norwich
Do fall behind reading twice
Not going to buy it
I was out yesterday evening and can't believe the three Nocitos and I are separated by a point in the PPP.
Hull are beating Huddersfield at home
Rangers losing to Montrose up North
Morning MUR
I like a nice cup of Yerba Mate as well.
Great how are you BD? Hope Chelsea are jet lagged too. Hoping for a West Yorkshire Derby in the semis.
Citeh really under the cosh early doors. Toure should probably have a card already.
How was your week , UWS? Looking forward to the holidays?
If you say it is Man Utd Rules ... your'e ahead on alphabetical order
Matt argues that your name is MUR... MAtt should be ahead
Good start here by Newcastle
Oh - Ba was nearly onto that knockdown by Williamson, who I like a lot. Slow start by Citeh.
Very much looking forward to the break
LOL! Glad that Matt is competitive about the PPP game.
Great start by Newcastle. Long may it continue. I agree with UWS that six points is not huge enough lead. Anything can happen
I had a really good week, MUR, but I have to admit that I was really rattled by the tragic news out of Conn yesterday. Could have been any of us, eh?
Me too. I must bve ready. I am so stressed out that I yelled at the principal earlier this week.
Phew - Tev ruled offside there. Oh - but I think he might have been level.
Offside by Citeh as Tev shot rioght at Krul.
Just about into my break now - just a couple of exams next week - by Wednesday I'll be coasting.
I agree, BD. I was reading the earlier comments. I am definitely saddnedd by the events in Conn. I just don't get it. What kind oif sicko would do something like this?
Bloody Hell... Citeh one up!!
GOAL! Brilliant move by Citeh, but surely Aguero was offside there?
Spectacular ball there from Yaya in the center circle to Nasri, who pulled it back well to Aguero.
1-0!
BUGGER! CITHE TAKE THE LEAD AND IT WAS TOO EASY AS THE NEWCASTLE DEFENSE WAS SPLIT.A LONG BALL FROM YAYA FOUND NASRI AND HE PASSED TO AGUERO WHO TAPPED INTO AN EMPTY NET.
Just like last week... home team dominate... away team take the lead
Newcastle will rue those missed chances early on now. That goal has changed the subtle psychology of the match.
Infostrada on Twitter: "Manchester City have won all 12 previous matches when Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez have started, scoring a combined 21 goals."
Oh - Tev nearly added a second there. Good stop by Krul.
That statement was posted before Sergio scored
TEV almost scores... mark up!!
Macca is already going into his upper falsetto register, expressing shock at the Newcastle defending.
Merson says he is better than half the Gunner squad right now!
Cynical tackle by Williamson.. .rightly in the book
Blogger's curse, I suppose. Since I complimented him, Williamson has had a 'mare. Picks up a yellow for hauling back Tev.
Citeh are ripping them apart!
willianson booked for a late challenge on Tev and nearly 0-2 to Citeh as Tev fails to connect at the far post.
The only silver lining in that goal is that, of course, it's another for my GBB - he's onto six now.
stick your GBB choice up your left nostril!
The SS panel are hammering Arsene for putting players in the wrong position
I agree 100% with Merse . I would also like to add that Wenger should be sacked, not moved upstairs. If I became the owner my that would be my first task, even before meeting the tea ladies or the players
I don't think he should be sacked... who could do better?
With holes that big , the Toon should be renamed the Swiss Cheese!
Keep it tight Newcastle for a little while please
Oh - Citeh slicing Newcastle apart again. Silva is really pulling the strings now.
Oh - Nasri has hit the post now! And Aguero's shot is blocked by Williamson!
STRUTH!!
ALL OVER THEM!!
OFF THE POST... SHOT BLOCKED...They're going to score a boatload
Nealry 2-0 as the Toon were torn apart, but a gret save by Krul and great clearance by Wiiliamson. The corner is cleared.
Now Nasri has been crocked by Anita. Ref had played on there.
Nasri is down
The Panel are asking the same question I just posed
Of course, Citeh are now only three points... and equal on goals
Two words - Pep Guardiola.
My answer is someone with a different last name than Wenger. Pep comes to mind as well as RDM. They may not do better, but I know they would not do any worse. I wonder how Gooner would respond.
Would he go there if there could be an opening at the Etihad, Bridge or even Old Trafford?
Stev Bould for the same rason as the other two managers
THere was an interesting discussion on the Guardian Football Weekly pod about Wenger. They argued that Wenger brought some new ideas about fitness and diet to the Premiership in the 90s but that the game has passed him by at this point.
Great question UWS. I am not sure.
Struth.. .what an awful pass by Cisse
That is exactly what I was thinking , BD>
oooh, a nice save by Hart!
Well, that's the question, isn't it? It's not a matter of "who could do better," because there are obviously loads of managers who are winning things. It's a matter of whether Arsenal are a big enough club to attract a winner.
But my prediction is that Arsenal will win nowt with Wenger around. Mark my words.
Does your bro think the same?
Great block by Hart under pressure from Ba off the free kick then a great save by Hart from Williamson.
So Reading and Arsenal are playing on Monday... will it be 5-7 again???
Newcastle are forced again and again to chop balls out of defense and hope to hit Citeh on the break. Strange, for a home side.
1309:
Newcastle fans, I've just been handed an urgent and horrifying news update... cannonball. No, sorry... it is 26 months since Newcastle last won a Premier League match after conceding the opener - the 2-1 victory at West Ham in October 2010.
Now it's a yellow for Simpson for a hack on Silva who is down in a heap.
Wow - bad stat for Toon fans.
Oh - Aguero should have added his brace. Who the hell is playing on the right side of defense for Citeh? I suspect he's in the dressing room having a cuppa.
I was thinking that the game has passed Wenger by. He is in denial and does not know how to adapt or correct any mistakes. Doesn't even know that he is making mistakes because he's in complete denial. He is a tyrant who wants to control and micromanage everything, Steve Bould , who is a superbcoach is a figure head. Time for a change as Wenger is not going to improve things.
Naughty by Nasti on Santon.
Newcastle have a chance to strike back now - can swing a free kick into the danger area.
Good ball in but Kolo heads it out.
The free kick from Anita is cleared.
Nasri stays firm at the end of the wall... of course, he knew it wasn't a shot
The thing is that the longer they wait, the more likely they have to sack Wenger. That would be a shame as he's arguably been Arsenal's best manager ever. He should be rewarded for those efforts with an upstairs role.
I am takinf off Monday because it's nme berfday. I will be around for the potential fireworks at the Madjeski
Back to the Em
Do you think Henry should come back on loan... or has that ship sailed?
It's your birthday on Monday... Happy Birthday... well I'll say it again on Monday
47?
Yikes... lost 9 losses and 2 draws in last 11 league matches
That ship has sailed, I'm afraid. If I saw him rattling them in in the MLS, it would be a different story. But he doesn't score that much.
The Toon faithful are getting a bit fed up with all of this rolling about on the turf from the Citeh players.
Looks like he is coming back tho
Nasri looks like he pulled his groin... going to have to be replaced
Well, at least Nasri may have to come off this time - Nasri has pulled his groin. Off he goes - who comes on? What's happened to Jack Rodwell?
And now my GBB is going into the book. Confusion about the two Argentines, perhaps? Aguero is pointing to his mate Tev who actually made the tackle.
Oh - Tev nearly found the corner there.
I had a long , but successful trip to he loo. Did I miss much. Just wide by Tev
GOAL! Javi Garcia has nodded Citeh 0-2 up!
GOAL.. Javi Garcia heads it in
Might have been deflected and .... a pathetic attempt of a clearance on the line... hits his standing leg!
Santon's poor day continues - that was probably an own goal off him when he could easily have cleared it.
BUGGERE 2-0 CITHE AS JAVI GARCIA HEADS IN A CORNER FROM SILVA .SANTON SHOULD HAVE CLEARED OFF THE LINE AS IT WENT IN OFF HIS BOOT.PATHETIC!
Yaya DEFLECTS A CROSS FOR A CORNER that is taken short and beaten oput by Hart.
Useless attempt of a short corner!!!
Macca "what was that?"
Strange short corner and Viteh counter , but are offside.
Of course, Arsenal were four up with 15 minutes to go here a few years back
Now what's happened to Cisee - down on the turf writhing around.
Thanks, UWS. I am taking off work to make sure it is a happy one.Hoping for a United victory as an early birthday present.Happy Anniversary to you and Kathy
Jack Charlton's in the crowd today - shouldn't he be at Elland Road?
You asked about Rodwell, what about Scott Sinclair?
Jack Charlton looks freezing in the stands
The Charlton lads were both Toon fans.. their uncle was Jackie Milburn
Zaba tackle Cisse for a Toon corner.
The long corner was just a poor as the short variety. Three minutes of stoppage time.
So, how are Newcastle thinking about the 8 year contract they gave to their gaffer
Merse thinks Arsenal should get Berbatov
Great point, UWS. The Charltons are Geordies and I remeber Jackie M being their uncle , so I imagine thyey were huge Toon fans growing up.
I think Arsenal need a rerplacemnt for Song or someone in the Viera mould . They need some steel in that midfield.
That's it..
Half time... not good for the Toon
I am off for a walk in a sunny but frost covered Glenville
Be back soon
Halftime and 0-2 to Citeh
Enjoy the walk, UWS. I am satying indoors in overcast and muggy Harlingen
Back with a fresh bagel, coffee, banana and grapefruit juice - the official breakfast of the LOB.
Hull City lead Huddersfield 1-0 in the second half as it is advantage Brucie over Simon. Rangers have tied it up at Montrose while Argyle Sweater are drawing 1-1 at Exeter in a Southwest Derby. Four minutes remaining. It is Morecambe and Wise 0 Oxford Shoes 0 about two minutes before halftime.
Same weather here in WNY - had to scrape off the car when I went out to the store this morning, but nice and bright now. One of my favorite combinations.
Did you get a silly holiday card from the Blue Devil, MUR? Just checking on the postal situation.
Absolutely , BD. I will make sure to have some grapefruit juice in stock for the reunion. You can also try some grapefruits from our tree.
Yes, BD. I really thank you for that.We all love it. I will be sending out cards this week as it ahgould be a much Slower week.
The second half is underway from SJP>
Great to hear - I was enjoying the idea of friends seeing me dressed up in my Blue Devil clobber.
I am back.. 30 secs after kick off
Early free kick to the Toon and Hart punches away
Nice of you to think of that, mate, but I'll drink whatever you've got around the house. Gooner and I aren't fussy people.
Ba could have scored there!!
BTW... you didn't look like a Blue Devil... you looked like a Blue Plonker... just kidding!
I have seen such a soft center in a while. Shouldn't the Toon bve called the Toffees?Headed over by Ba from close range after the Toon finally put in a decent delivery
Oh - Santon did well there but hit the sidenetting with his shot. He's better going forward than at the back.
Another decent effort from Toon.. of course they started the same way in the first half
Into the side netting by Santon after a great cut in.
I'll take the same as last week almost!
Start bright... fall two down at half... get back to Desmond... let's skip that last part of last week
Welocme back, UWS. Happy Anniversary to you and Kathy.
Newcastle starting this half as they started the first one. Citeh somewhat welcoming them forward.
Tiote wins a corner off of fellow Ivorian , Kolo.
Yes! Ba pegs one back for Newcastle!
1-2!
That was coming!
YES!!
BA WITH A NICE HEADER
COME ON UNITED!
That's number 11 for Ba, who's one behind Michu in the Golden Boot competition now.
GOAL !!! TOON PUKLL ONE BACK FROM BA WHO MAY HVA EBEEN OFFSIDE AS A POOR CORNER FROM ANITA WAS HEADED OUIT , BUT HOOKED BACK IN BY COLLOCINI AND BA HEADED IN.
Thanks very much MUR
Got a nice email from BD saying the same thing
twenty-two years... piece a cake
I just beat Ian to that factoid about Demba Ba - ESPN should hire me!
Was Ba onside.? Just over by Cisseas it should have been Desmond
Matt is a happy camper
Is he the dark horse in the PPP?
Ba?
Dortmund?
You did change my mistake, right Bob
oooh, Cisse over the top
I still remember that day 22 years ago. Nice one!
I think we could all be hired by ESPN..well they are losing the Prem... let's give a call to NBC!!!
I did, mate. I've got you down for Dortmund and Ba for Matt.
A great achievement for you and Katy. Long may it continue
It was a great day... snow storm... deer in the woods
Thanks
Same to you and your MUCH better half
Jmaes Perch is booked by Andre Marriner.
I thought Kolo was already booked in the first half? Maybe it was his bruvver.
Ta, UWS.
Come on Desmond... let's be havin ya
Boy Neville Southall his as big a bus!
Would you take Moyes at OT?
I think he would be my first choice
Rangers now lead 1-3 at Montrose as they will be top of the Scottish Third with a game ion hand. Argyle Sweater drew 1-1 at Exeter in a Southwest derby. That is a final score.Bob will be pleased.
Southall always did run a bit heavy, even when he was still playing.
Moyes is a cert for OT.
Useless effort from Tiote
I would like Moyes at OT. I wonder if he will be at the EM in the near future
What about Jose? Pep?
He would be ahead of those two in my book
I definitely don't want Jose... Bobby Charlton doesn't think he is a United manager!
Luis Suarez back for Liverpool but Jose Enrique is missing through injury
Zaba with a great ball across the six yard box - Santon allowed him a lot of freedom.
I am not surprised. I remeber hom being nicknamed Havy Nevie at the end of his playing career.
Adam Johnson has recovered from injury to play at OT
Silly corner given away from Citeh
Montrose have scored and trail Rangers 2-3
Liking this second half so far
Come on Montrose!
I saw them live one time. I went camping with the Hunters up in Scotland and went to a Celtic match against Montrose
Only moyes would be a good fit at OT. I am not too keen on any of the others.
ooh, i thought that was in.. side netting
BA HUNBUG! Into the side netting by Ba off a corner.
Even if they win, it won't give Citeh a lot of confidence... I thought they would have a huge win and start on a roll
What about the team news out of Elland Road - that's the big match!
Ba sure put a lot of his Hart into that headed goal.BA HUMBUG FOR CITEH!
Tough match to call... Ipswich for obvious reasons but Leeds because of you
I really want Leeds to get back to the Prem so I can start hating them again... as I should!
Collocini cut out a cross from fellow Argie, Aguero, for a corbner.Javi Garcia headed well wide from the corner.
Come on Desmond
Come on Desmond
Come on Desmond
I'm just fine with Championship survival but I'd love a League Cup win for us.
Same here, UWS, but I also like Ipswich
U-N-I
T-E-D
United are the team for me
with a knick knack paddy whack
give a dog a bone
why don't City
F*** off home
I watched Ipswich vs Leeds at portman Road in October 1981 on a Host Nation Field Trip
Boy... I hope you beat Chelsea... JET LAG!!
