Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

I'm on this link courtesy of UWS last night:

Here is the team news out of the City Ground this morning:
Forest: Camp, Hutton, Ward, Collins (c), Halford, Cohen, Guedioura, Majewski, Reid, Blackstock, Sharp. Subs: Lansbury, Gillett, Darlow, Harding, Moussi, McGugan, Cox.
Leeds: Kenny, Byram, Tate, Lees, Drury, Green, Brown, Austin, Thomas, Becchio, Diouf. Subs: Ashdown, Varney, McCormack, Pearce, Norris, Somma, White.
Referee: T Bates
Teams coming out at the City Ground now. Come on, you Whites!
The Mighty Whites to get us underway then. Come on!
Marvelous to be able to watch my boys on Boxing Day!
Early corner chance for us - good quick start.
And another. Lovely jubbly. Come on!
Great to have Rodolph Austin back in the midfield.
Oh - that was a close call. Reid whipped one in evading Sam Byram and Dexter Blackstock was nearly able to poke it home.
Time to lump a free kick into the area. Oh - good knock down by Becchio and Spitty had it whipped off his toe.
Good morning ,BD. Nice lyrics . I overslept a little and the coffe's a brewing since Warnock is stewing.
Jerome Thomas is giving us some nice width down the left side but his final ball hasn't been good yet.
Morning, MUR - great to have you on board this morning. Sleep well?
YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!
1-0!
A bit of a scrappy goal there, but they all count. It was pinging about for ages in the Forest area before Spitty nicked it on and Paul Green had a tap in.
That goal lifts us, albeit temporarily, way up to 5th ahead of Leicester, Watford and Millwall.
Way hay!
Isee that Leed is leading at Forest . Congrats Bob and well worth getting up early.
I missed the goal because it took three attempts to lad this dodgy link
Happily, it hasn't been that dodgy so far. Nice and crisp, thanks to Rip van Winkle.
You didn't miss much, mate. It wasn't a classic, to be honest. But they all count, eh?
Come on, Spitty - whip this one in. Too close to Lee Camp.
naughty foul by Ward on Jerome Thomas with that nice width. The free kik from Spitty is easily caught by Lee Camp
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is on the Forest bench, sadly. Elland Road legend.
JFH is the Forest first tea coach. He has his work cut out for him and so do the playerswith his moody behavior.
Fortunately for us, Forest look absolutely rubbish so far.
A Forest free kick was easily headed out.
That is what I hacve seen from the little I have seen
JFH is a legend at ER and the Bridge.
Becchio is not getting a lot of space in the box but that's allowing some space for his teammates.
Coffee and bagel have just arrived courtesy of Gooner who's up early to head off to work sadly.
Spitty is down after clashibng heads with Guediora. He seems to be okay
Hello Gooner, Melanie , and Eric.Sorry Gooner has to work today. Will Melanie and Eric be home today?
I will do bagel duty during the reunion as I can assure that Elizabeth and the girls will be RVWs.
Becchio straight to Camp off a long cross from Spitty then Michale Brown wityh a tyical foul on Guediora.
And with a customary yellow. Paddy Kenny does well totip a header rom an Andy reaid fee kickaround the post. The corner was shot well wide.
Leeds blockk a shot fropm Majewski as Forest keep possession and win a corner off of Paul Green.
It was actually a long throw headed away by Becks and a long cross from Fatty Reid is headedharmlessl wide by Dexter Blackstock
Brownie's in trouble again. Yellow.
I am sure Bob is busy chomping down on a bagel while hacer Brown , who has alreadybeen bookedcould have seem a seen a second yellow, but the replay showed that it seemed a fair tackle on Guediora
I doubt Brownie will last the full 90. It wll either be an early bath or Warnock needing to sub himto prevent that.
Yep - I bite bagels like Michael Brown bites ankles.
Pioor by Spitty s he was easily tackled just outside the Leeds box. Forest fas want hand ball on Sam Byrum as Forest have dominated and Billy Sharp's shirt was tugged in the box. Was that a penalty?
Two weak penalty shouts there from Forest. They need to push off.
I sympathize withthe bagels. Did you see my bagel duty comments?
BLOW UP REF!
Guediora played a nice one two with Lee Probert . More players should try that tactic.
Penalty to Forest - bugger!
That was soft. Lees on Sharp.
BNLOODY HELL !!!! LEE PROBERT ACCUSES TOM LEES OF FOULING BILLY SHARP IN THE BOX PENALTY FOREST
Sharp goes right, Paddy goes left. 1-1.
BUGGER !!!! SHARP SCORES FROM THE SPOT , SENDING PADDY KENNY THE WRONG WAY
Now 1-1 a minue before stoppage time and agree that it was a soft penalty. Sorry Bob.
Austin commits a foul just outside the box.Two minues of stoppage time
Now Forest have a free kick - this half is not ending well. Blow up, ref!
Paddy tips the shot around just to be on the safe side.
Missed that save from by Paddy kenny from Fatty Reid. Corbner to Mildenhall Forest
Talk about a odgy link. I issed the corner too.
Half-time - Good at the beginning; not so good toward the end.
1-1
Halftime and 1-1. Forest ended the half the better team , so Neil Warnock will have some work to do at the half.
Since Michael Brown picked up that card, he's been loathe to put his foot in and Forest are running over us. Neil will have to pull him before long.
Are Melanie and Eric there to keep you company? Elizabeth, Sparky, and the girs are RVWs as they normally are during holidays.
I just the Leeds goal and it was scrappy. I stated ealier that Brownie will not last the full 90 for some reason or another
Te second haf is underway from the Ciy ground
COME ON YOU BLUES!
Jerome Thoas wins a Leeds corner. CVamp punched away the corner fropm Spitty and Joe Ward cleared
Morning boys and Happy Boxing Day
Sorry I am late to the party. The boys woke me up too early yesterday!
ie tackle by Brownie on hap as Forest have a corner . No it was a goal kick
What the hell.. why don't Leeds wear WHITE!!!
Good morning UWS. Sounds like you had a busy day yesterday
Headed just over by Balackstock off the corner from Fatty Reid
Good question, UWS.They are probably not selling enough sky blue jerseys
Pau green goes into the book
Morning, lads - I'm back after buzzing the Gooner down to the Metro station on a rather icy, sleety morning here in Northern VA.
Becks is lectured as he nearly talked himself into the book
I agree with you, UWS - we could easily wear white shirts and dark blue shorts today.
BUGGGGERRRRRRR!!!!
Billy Sharpe again, rounding Kenny and slotting home.
2-1
BUGGER !!!!BILLY SHARP ROUNDS PADDY KENNY TO GIVE FOREST A 2-1 LEAD NOW HE HAS A BRACE AS DEXTER BLACKSTOCK HEADED ON A LONG BALL
Back down to 8th (sigh)....
Come on, Desmond - where are you, mate?
Sorry Bob.
COME IN, DESMOND!
The weather is going to be pretty bad here too. We were supposed to go to Charlotte today but we are expected to get up to 12 inches and then ice. We were going to try and leave earlier but as you said there is ice, wind, rain and possible tornados!!
I hope Gooner Is safe in the dangerous conditions. I hope everyone is cautious in the difficult conditions.
Yeah - I'm not looking forward to the drive tomorrow.
Bloody hell, Rodolph!
3-1.
BUGGER AGAIN!!
OG!
BLOODY HELLL ! 3-1 FOREST AS WARD TURNED THE CORNER ACROSS THE GOAL AND AUSTIN PUT INTO HIS OWN GOAL
Sorry mate. Surely , Warnock must make some changes. It's time to drag off Brownie.
Yeah - I agree; time for some radical changes now.
Useless from Spitty as Forest counter
Phew - looked like 4-1 but it's called back for offside. Lucky - Sharpe was completely unmarked.
Now it is 4-1 - Blackstock nods home. WTF?!
PHEW! I thought Forest had a fourth as Billy Sharp heded in a cross from Alan Hutton, but he was denied a hat-trick due to offside.
BLODY HELL . IT IS 4-1 AS DEXTER BACKSTOCK SCORES.HE HEADED IN A CROSS FROM FATTYU REID. HORRIBLE DEFENDING
This is doing our poor GD no good at all. Back down to -4 again.
How did young, slim Byrum let old Fatty Reid skip past him ? whee as the marking on Blackstock. Bob must be livid. Sorry mate.
No idea how that goal happened - it just seemed as if Forest came out of the dressing room wanting it more in this second half.
Paddy Kenny gathers from the on rushing Cohen.I agree that Forest have been the hungrier team.
Finally some changes - Spitty off for Somma.
And Austin off for Jason Pearce. What's the point of that one.
Davide Somm on for Spitty. WTF? Is Warnock conceding the match. His first match in 18 month. Jason Pearce for Austin. Thart's an odd one. Am I missing something?
Even if we don't turn the 4-1 around, we need to keep playing to reduce the damage here.
Jerome Thomasfouls Hutton just outside the box.ward heads straight to Kenny off a corner.
Somma needs to get some matches in and Spitty needs to rest up for matches to come. That move makes sense to me but a defender on for a defensive middie seems negative.
The Tractor Boys are 0-1 up at Charlton happily.
Agreed. I hate to say this, but this oe is done and dusted. Leeds should score a couple for pride and momentum during the holidays
Great news!
Forest seem to be taking the foot off the gas now, allowing us to come forward again. We should take advantage.
Great dending by Forest. Leeds should have done the same earlier.Guy Moussi is on for Majewski
I agree with our statements about the substitutions and about Leeds needing to take advantage of Forest
Forest fans sounding rather too smug now.
I jus saw that Argyle Sweater is hosting Fawlt Towers n a derbdy match and it is 0-0 about two minutes before the half.
Volleyed well wide by Brum
Useless by Thomas.
I lost the use of the computer for a bit there
OH DEAR
Forest must know they have won because the bloddy useless Siimon Cox is on for Sharp Cheddar
You missed a horror show, UWS!
Ipswich now lead 0-2 at the Valey at the half as they must have scored deep into stoppage time
Roos si on for Sam Byrum. Only thirty minutes too late!
More halftime scores:
Daggenham 0 Southend 2
Gilligam 0 Banet 1
Argyle Sweater 0 Fawlty Towers 0
Charlton 0 Tractor Boys 2
Total horror show in this second half; I've been downloading the Tracy Thorn holiday album instead of watching this shower.
Fatty Reid off and former Gunner Henri Lansbury on for him.
Henri Lansbury is on for Fatty Reid as Simon Cox tred a fancy chip, but showed his lack of quality
Paddy kenny dio well to tip over a long range effort from Alan Hutton
Te corner is headed away, then cleared.
Paddy Kenny and Michael Brown seeing the funny side of it as the corner was about to be taken. I was not aware that trailing 4-1was a laughing matter. I know that Bob will agree to disgaree with Messrs Brown and Kenny,.
ward does well to block a shot from Somma. Corner to Leeds. The corner is headed away
Forest go straight up the pitch and Guediora shoots harmlessly wide.
Not happy to see Brown and Kenny yucking it up about this poor showing. They should remember that there are several thousand away supporters who have traveled down last night or very early this morning to watch this shocker.
GOAL !!!! SOMMA SCORES A CONSOLATION AS ROSS WENT DOWN THE LEFT OFF A FOREST COUNTER . A CLOSE RANGE TAP IN
GOAL! Well, that's some consolation to see Davide Somma back on the scoresheet after a season and a half out. The South African could give us a bit of cover up front.
4-2.
MOT!
Three minutes of stoppage time as you must be happier with that cosolation goal. I agree that Broan and Kenny should think of the travelling supporters
Oh - Somma nearly scored another!
I was updating the Championship table on my hanging tables and something jumped out
Before today's horror show, 4-2 now, I noticed the table read like this
Leeds, Brighton, Derby and Forest... all Cloughie's teams! Only missing Hartlepool!
Does anyone know when Hartlepool changed from Hartlepools?
oooh, almost 4-3
Shot harmlessly wide by Somma.
Maicon starts for Citeh as well as the two midgets up top
No idea, UWS. Enlighten us, eh?
I think it was in the late 60s or early 70s. Jeff would know. Interesting Cloughie fact
Blue Santas dancing away... they're losing!
The Leeds Santas are having a good day out, regardless. Marvelous!
Forest defeat Leeds 4-2 Sorry Bob.
That's it
Sorry mate
I will now get an SS link going. I don't think it starts util 9:30
That's that, then. Not the game or result I wanted to start off this Boxing Day.
I'm off to share the rest of the day with my dad. Unfortunately, he doesn't have Internet coverage at his place, so I'll be off the blog. Enjoy the day, lads!
In 1968 the "s" and the "United" were dropped from the team name of "Hartlepools United". This was in connection with West Hartlepool being absorbed along with the old smaller town of Hartlepool and the village of Hart into one new borough named "Hartlepool". The appendage of "United" was finally restored in 1977
Have a great day, BD. Have a great day with your dad.
Have a good day Bob
Say hello to my Middle School Principal!
Do you want any texts?
Great archiving, UWS. I guess I was partially correct. Neil Warnock is a former Hartlepool player.
SS link

I second that. Say hi to your dad.
Phil Nev makes his 500th Prem appearance today against Wigan
Is that the one that starts in about twenty minutes?
There is no Wayne Rooney for Man United
Hernandez starts along side RVP
Scholes and Giggs both start
I like the decision to drop crappy Rooney but not sure about Dad's Army in the middle
You are in top form, UWS. A banner Boxing Day for you, UWS!
Balls! Sorry BDB. Thanks for the lift to the station. Got to work in plenty of time.
I agree. Chicha for Roon s a great decision, but Dad's Army needs to play in MLS , the J eague , or the A League. Time for them to move on after many years of outstanding service.
Good morning Gooner. Glad you made it safely in what was described as tricky conditions.
Morning Gooner
1418:
GET INVOLVED
Josh Wheway on Twitter: "Scholes and Giggs starting for Man Utd? Class players but they will get overrun in midfield by Newcastle's strength and speed today!"
Rick Nash on Twitter: "Ferguson has already said he's going to rotate strikers over Xmas, before people go crazy about Rooney being left out."
Victor Chatfield on Twitter: "Giggs and Scholes starting? Oh dear, going to be a slow game and not a great performance. No Rooney makes sense after Swansea!"
Sunderland v Man City (1500 GMT)
It appears Maicon is no longer in the Manchester City starting line-up at Sunderland. It looks like a late change sees Matija Nastasic start at centre-half, with Kolo Toure slotting in at right-back. Late drama everywhere - and we've not even kicked-off yet.
Kick off at Loftus Road is delayed for fifteen minutes because West Brom's team was stuck in traffic!
Rooney isn't even on the bench apparently
LINE-UPS - Man Utd v Newcastle (1500 GMT)
Man Utd: De Gea, Smalling, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, van Persie, Hernandez. Subs: Lindegaard, Vidic, Cleverley, Fletcher, Buttner, Wootton, Tunnicliffe.
Newcastle: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon, Anita, Perch, Bigirimana, Cisse, Ba, Marveaux. Subs: Elliot, Shola Ameobi, Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Ferguson, Tavernier, Campbell.
Referee: Mike Dean (Wirral)
ESPN2 showing Mike and Mike up until 9:55...bugger
FSC have no pre-game either. They have Sunderland Citeh starting right at 10
WOW! The West Brom coach should have left earlier. Not surprised about Roon.SAF will claim that he is giving him a rest
Norwich vs Chelsea is on FSC+
Lineker tweeted that WBA should have taken the tube!!
I don't have have FSC+
What about Bosingwa. Will he even be on the QPR bench? Harry should get rid of him in January even if it's on the cheap
I hope United don't drive me nuts today
After I stopped commenting on Sunday they played better and should have scored... the finishing was still below par
BOOM BOOM GARY! It went down the tubes.
Jordan Watkins on Twitter: "Turn up when we want, turn up when we want... We are the Albion, turn up when we want! "
Boom boom MUR
Agreed, UWS. They need to do better. I saw your earlier comment about the Charlotte trip. I am pleased that you are waiting. Safety is always important. It ahould be safer once the front passes through
I am not even sure that we are going to go at all
LINE-UPS - Norwich v Chelsea (1500 GMT)
Norwich: Bunn, Martin, Turner, Bassong, Garrido, Snodgrass, Tettey, Johnson, Pilkington, Hoolahan, Holt. Subs: Rudd, Howson, Jackson, Morison, Elliott Bennett, Barnett, Ryan Bennett.
Chelsea: Cech, Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Cahill, Cole, Mikel, Luiz, Moses, Oscar, Mata, Torres. Subs: Turnbull, Lampard, Hazard, Ferreira, Marin, Piazon, Ake.
Referee: Jon Moss (W Yorkshire)
Ta, UWS.I heard Villa players were banned from the telly after Paul Lambert caught them watching "Eight is Enough."
ooh, bad one
Sorry to hear that. Hope you have a relaxing vacation either way
I guess I was naughty . Will sneaky Harry try to ship Bosingwa to Villa Park?
Is your weather cold at all?
Dallas was supposed to get snow!
BUGGER! Charlton have just scored vs the Tractor Boys. They now trail the the Tractor Boys 2-1 with about fifteen minutes remaining
Come on Ipswich!
We did have a sharp weather change ? It was in the 80s yesterday, but a front passed through and it was in the upper 30s earlier. Highs today will be in the 50s. Breezy and not a cloud in the sky.
Did you see that Friedel signed a new contract with Spurs?
Life is tough!
I don't think we are getting above freezing for the next week!
I think Dallas did get a little snow. They are about 500 miles to the north
I saw that. He will be 41 in May, so I guess he figures he is doing well just to be with an EPL club at this stage in his career
I didn't realize you were so far south of Dallas
I am. Nice weather comment
QPR also hosted West Brom in the top flight on Boxing Day in 1968. Albion won that game 4-0 and QPR were later relegated. A repeat performance?
Got FSC ESPN 2 on the PIP,and the Gilette Soccer link running. A perfect way to spend Boxing Day as well as the great LOB banter.
Statisticians Opta on Twitter: "50 - There have been 50 goals scored in 10 matches in all competitions played at Reading's Madejski Stadium this season. Circus."
I have the same... probably not ruining the United match with Citeh
I sure hope so. Great news for Bob's Argyle as they score a late equzlizer vs Fawlty Towers in a local Derby . It is 1-1
Definitely a circus.Nopt a dull moment at the Madjeski.A shame that they will be back in the Championship next season.
Classic funny bits from SS
Nice one from Jeff! Brendan Ridgers says he needs to bering in hungrier players, so Jeff says Le Tiss would be a perfect fit for Liverpool
ESPN has started... bucketing down at OT
Leaders Gillingham lose at home to Barnet
Glad to see ESPN 2 finally has the footie. I don't need to see ex football players stuffing their miouths full of twinkies then talking with their mouts full. CHILDISH!
Just saw that QPR announcement that you had stated earlier.A late announcement of the late kickoff.
