Sunday Morning at the LOB
I'm back on Sunday morning to follow the day's matches, starting with Spurs hosting Swansea at the old Shite Fart. Both sides have been inconsistent, so something's got to give. Later, we have West Brom and West Ham. Some people have their houses of worship on a Sunday morning -we've got this. Do drop in for a cuppa.
245 Comments:
Teams about to get started:
Spurs: Lloris, Walker, Gallas, Vertonghen, Naughton, LUFC Academy, Sandro, Dembele, Dempsey, Adebayor, Defoe
Swansea - Tremmel, Tiendell, Chico, Williams, Davies, Britton, Dyer, De Guzman, Routledge, Michu
Good morning, BD. Pleat returns to his old stomping ground
Bloody Norah! Chelsea lost to Corinthians earlier this morning. The one trophy that has eluded Raffa
Oh - Michu slipped in between Gallas and Vertonghen; knocked out for a corner.
I was happy to see that. Now they've got a long flight home to get hammered by us in the League Cup on Wednesday.
Morning, MUR!
An early Swansea corner taken by Dutch-Canadian , De Guzmana and it eludes everyone as Chico Flores shoots high and wide.
I sure hope so, BD. Believe it or not , BEIN is televising that match. I may record it,.
I'm going to try to sneak away from work to watch it.
The students get out early due to Semseter exams, so if I can sneak out early I may watch the second half from ER
I hope Chelsea will BEIN the end of another embarassing defeat on Wednesday
Nice pun, mate - you're off to a good start on an early Sunday morning.
Ahley Wiolliams easily defended Dafoe because he can't cross.
Big shout for a handball against Ashley Williams, but the ref adjudicated it unintentional.
Ta, BD. Anything to help Leeds. I am taking off tomorrow since it's my birthday, so I will be watching the Gooners on ESPN 2 tomorrow.
Defoe is another one who's an outside shout for GBB - but he can't pass the ball for toffee.
It was never a pen. A lame attempt from Dafoe.
Dafoe showe dhe can dribble as he shoots at tremmel after being set up by Ade.
Oh - Defoe was in there after some mistakes by the Swansea midfield. HIt Tremmel with his shot.
WOW! Michu doing hios defensive duty as he blocks an effort from Dafoe as I thought Spurs were about to take the lead.
It all started when Ade won the ball in midfield and set up Dafoe with a clever back heel.
Oh - Ade's shot is blocked by Chico Flores.
And Dyer is booked for a wild challenge.
Great block by Ashley Williams from Ade then Chico Flores commits a foul just outside the box.
Dempsey and Walker behind the free kick. Walker blasts...straight into the wall.
Kyle Walker into the wall and it was Natahn Dyer with the foul and he was booked for that by Mike Dean
I don't think Swansea have been out of their half since the second minute
I'm off to get my brekkies together - back in a tick.
Tiendell tackles Ade for a corner . Spurs fans wanted a free kick
The corner from Kyle Walker is headed out by Ki for another
Cheers, BD. the met corner from Wlaker is poor as it fails to beat the first man
FSC just posted that the CL draw will be broadcast live on Thursday at 5 AM. That may be a bit early for me.
A long cross from Kyle Naughton eudes everyone and is out for a goal kick
A nice possession from Spurs and a cross from LUFC Academy ends with Clint heading traaight to Tremmel
A beautiful pass from Sandro to LUFC Academy and he gets it all wrong as Spurs had another chance
Swansea finally get ot of their half and Nathan dyer wins a free kick
I'm back and Swansea are still keeping Spurs out.
They've got a chance to swing a free kick in now.
A long free kick from De Guzman is headed out by Vertonghen
I just saw that tyhe CL draw will be live on FSC at 5 AM on Thursday
Lennon never did learn to cross the ball at the LUFC Academy sadly.
Another great block by Williams as Dempsey was arriving to meet Walker's cross.
I saw that - that's a wee bit early for me, let alone you, mate!
Ah - the bagel and coffee are going down a treat.
Great to hear you are enjoying you r brekkies. I will check the draw once I wake up at the normal time on Thursday
I think that's a wise move - which team would you prefer to draw?
Since the early Spurs avalanche, the Swans have been rather comfortable defending deep
Uh oh - Pleat's calling for more "thrust" from Spurs. His true nature is showing.
Oh - a scorcher from Walker beaten out by Tremmel off his shoulder.
Pleat needed to have a wank before the match
Nice counter there by the Swans ending with De Guzman firing from an acute angle. You can definitely see how they punked Arsenal last weekend.
To answer your question, I know United is supposed to get a second place non EPL team. There are not any easy teams remaining, but I would like United to get Celtic in the next round. I know they can defeat them.
Definitely - I think that's advisable for Pleat before he's handed a microphone.
That would be a tasty Anglo-Scottish affair.
To add to your earlier comment, they didn't teach Lennon how to pass at the LUFC Academy either
Now Pleat is arguable that size doesn't matter. We could be in for a long one here.
Apparently not; he's been woeful with his delivery this morning.
WOW! Michu nearly caught Lloris out form near the halfway line as a chip was only inches over and the French keeper was well off his line.
I reckon that Laudrup will be the happier of the two managers at half-time. They've weathered the storm and can build on that.
Agreed. Pleat is enjoying his return to WHL.
Defintiely true, BD. Spurs have had all the possession and done naught.
Britton upends the Ballhog - free kick for Spurs.
Pleat's enjoying it a wee bit too much, in my book.
Naughty by Leon Britton on Dafoe,
Vertonghen into the wall.Agreed about Pleat.
Halftime and 0-0 from WHL.
Well that's all very frustrating, especially for the home crowd. 0-0 at the break.
Michu and Lloris share a lugh about that long range chip earlier. Great to see comradery between opponents.
The second half is underway from WHL
I just read that the Hammers have only 14 fit plares for the trip to the Hawthorns. I guess the baggies will Hammer their opponets today
We're back and Pleat wants Spurs to break down "this thick red door."
You would think that the Baggies will have enough quality to overcome the 14 man West Ham squad.
A great run by Routledge and Nathan Dyer failed to connect from a great cross and run. Spurs go straight up the other end of the pitch and it's well wide from Dafoe,
It actually deflected off of Ashley Williams and the corner from Kyle Walker was easily headed away
Jonno will not be pleased with our comments, BD.Better than finding out the hard way
Tremmel tips a long range effort from Ader around the post.
A short cormer from Spurs goes terribly wrong.
A poor shot from Kyle Naughton ends up going out for a throw.
Dembele is booked for a foul on Ki. It seemed a rather soft booking. Picky from Mike Dean
I'll expect WHR to be around to defend his Hammers here on the LOB today.
Better from Spurs as that was a decent effort from Dembele that went wide . Great Spurs possession.
The referee is starting to hand out yellow cards with some regularity now.
De Guzman is booked for grabbing Dembele. Now Spurs have a corner that wasn'tIt was headed away by Michu
If things end in a stalemate today, Spurs will be in 5th, a point ahead of WBA who play later. Swansea will be in 9th, level on points (but behind on GD) Arsenal.
Agreed, BD. Some soft bookings. Is that part of his Christmas Card list?
Good to see WHR defending for the cause. They will need some steel at the back. Fat Sam should sign WHR on loan.
Surging move from Spurs ending with a miscue by Walker as he slipped.
Hey Boys
Sorry I am a miss today. I am sick!
I came home from dinner with the shivers even sitting by the fire. I am back off to bed in a few minutes
I am here in spirit!
One more thing, I was watching the match upstairs and have you seen Demspey's reactions when Defoe shoots ALL TIME!
Dafoe finally passes to a teammate and Kyle Walker blows it with an atrocious effort.
Won't be on the Christmas Card list, for sure.
Morning, UWS - sorry to hear that you're poorly. Rest up, mate. Thanks for pointing out Dempsey's reactions - I haven't noticed them but I'll look.
Good morning UWS. Sorry you are ill and on your anniversary of all days. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Are you staying home tomorrow?
Same here. I didn;t notice them, but it sounds about right, UWS.
36K at Shite Fart today. I'm constantly surprised by how small Premiership attendances are. I used to attend Florida football games with 95K other Gators in a tiny town to watch, let's be honest, amateur level college football.
Agreed, BD. I wish it were more. They would definitely need larger stadiums.
Pathetic cross by Naughton . I wouldn't be surprised to see Swansea score a late winner
Kyle Naughton looks like yet another player who's being played on his unnatural side. Had to jink inside and cross with his right foot there, while Dyer was channeling him outside.
I'd love to see the Swans score a late one - just not, Michu, please.
Defoe shoots again...deflected out.
Spurs nicked their anthem off us!
Dempsey won't be pleased - he's got no service all day long - and now he'll be replaced by Sigi.
Model pro, Clint it, there are no Balotelli style protestations.
Uh oh - now Ade is limping off. AVB should probably not have substituted Clint who could have played down the middle. Silly sod.
AVB is forced then to run out ex-Leeds scrub Andros Townsend who prefers to run wide with no purpose.
And they've moved LUFC Academy out to his unnatural left side. Spurs deserve to lose this one - what a shambles.
True to form, Townsend goes absolutely nowhere on his first possession.
Fifteen minutes left to try to settle this one.
Laudrup violates the rule that you don't bring subs on when you're defending a free kick and....
GOAL! Vertonghen finishes off the confusion in the Swans defense.
1-0 Spurs!
Now, Swansea will have to come out of the shell that they've been in for 75 minutes. Tough ask for them.
I have to admit that Townsend has made a difference. He draws Chico into another foul there and the Swan gets a yellow.
Spurs have the vaunted top four spot again now. Swans down to 10th.
And to add injury to insult, Chico is now down writhing around needing some treatment.
And to add injury to insult, Chico is now down writhing around needing some treatment.
Pleat is talking a load of bollocks now about the name "Chico." Struth!
Inside the last ten minutes and truth be told the Swans haven't shown much ambition today. Not the kind of attractive flowing football that Laudrup is known for.
Hello BD. I had to take Jacquelyn for a Bat Mitzvah lesson and see that Spurs scored.
A late Swansea rally as Everton did a week ago?
Offside Swansea as there are five minutes of stoppage time.
Welcome back, MUR - and welcome back Scottie Parker.
Dembele receives a standing ovation as he is replaced by that forgotten man, Scotty Parker.
Swansea have a late, late corner.
Rubbish corner - should get a club fine.
Ta, BD. Billy Gallas head out for a l;ate Swansea corner.Pathetic corner from Augustein
A booking for Dafoe for a Scholes type foul and Lloris punches away a long free kick
Desperate attacking from Swansea. Michu was just about in there but was cleaned out by Lloris.
Michu is out for the count due to that punch out and why did Spurs play on when they knew he was down? Townsend had just tremmel to beat and should have scored, but the keeper saved with his feet
Bench clearing activities now from both sides. The Swans didn't like that Lloris clearance.
Thankfully Michu gets up, but is worse for the wear. How much time will be added on as ther will be a drop ball?Tremmel clears
Interesting decision - the ref has given the ball back to Swansea's keeper Tremmel.
Is there time for another Swansea chance? Probably not now.
Spurs counter and Ben Davies puts out a cross from Lennon for a corner and that should about do it and it does as Spurs kept it by the corner flag. Spurs hang on to win 1-0.
The answer is "no." 1-0 Spurs at the end. A bit fortunate for them, I thought.
No hard feelings between Michael Laudrup and AVB as they shake hands and smile.
I'm off to the shower; back for the late one.
It seemed that way, BD
Cheers, BD.
I'm back for the late one now. Teams out on the pitch:
West Brom: Myhill, Jones, McAuley, Olsson, Popov, Brunt, Morrison, Mulumbu, Gera, Odemwingie, Long.
Subs: L Daniels, Dorrans, Rosenberg, Lukaku, Fortune, Tamas, Dawson.
West Ham: Jaaskelainen, Demel, O'Brien, Reid, Collins, Noble, O'Neil, Nolan, Jarvis, Cole, Taylor.
Subs: Spiegel, Tomkins, Spence, Moncur, Lletget, Maiga.
Referee: Phil Dowd

Phil Dowd gets us underway from the Hawthorns.
Back and squeeky clean. As soon as the match is over , Melanie has a concert. A full day today
As expected, all the early pressure is from the Baggies.
The Hammers counterd through Carlton Cole and he put in a delightful cross heaed just over by Matty Taylor.
It does sound like a full day for you. I've got a kiddie birthday party to go to this afternoon.
Sounds like a full day for you too. We had Jacquelyn's birthday party at the bowling alley yesterday afternoon evnthough her birthday is on Friday . She had a sleepover. Tomorrow evening Jacquelyn has a choir concert. She keeps us busy too,.
Great times, though, eh?
Winston Reid is down after clashing with Jonas Olsson from a free kick
The Baggies enter this match in 6th but have a chance to leapfrog both Everton and Spurs with a big win here today.
West Ham are safely in mid-table in 11th, a point better than Liverpool.
Defintiely , BD. Tomorrow morning I will spend my birthday going with my handyman to look for a new shower door because ours fell off when Elizabeth was showering Friday afteroon. She nearly got hit with it, but thankfully is okay
West Brom have a free kick chance now. Brunt...into the wall.
Intoi the wall by Chris Brunt and then a long Baggies possession results in a goal kick
Most modest sides who climb the table like WBA have one main goalscorer (e.g., Swansea with Michu). However, WBA have profited from equal numbers of goals from Shane Long, Peter Odemwinge and the Chunk - Lukaku - off the bench.
Naughty by Jussi as he took an illegal goal kick and then played ignorant. Kevin Nolanj saw the humorous side , but not Phil Dowd. I was taught that trick when going for my reffing liscence.
West Brom should definitely score goals and as you stated it will probably be by committee.
Some fairly prehistoric football so far from Fat Sam's West Ham. WHR would be ashamed if he were watching.
I agree, BD. I thought I was watching Watford circa 1982.
I guess Fat Sam has been keeping the lads late for head tennis drills, thuggish tackling, and kadoomph drills.
Chris Hughton and Davie Moyes are in attendance, presumably scouting or spying
Not a lot of football being played here at the Hawthorns this afternoon, unfortunately.
Extra kadoomph drills, apparently. Why bother playing a midfield when the ball is just going to fly over their heads?
Are Moyes and Hughton seated together - I missed that.
I heard that the Blancmanges tremble at the sight of Fat Sam's head tennis squad. Angus Pogborny likes to avoid them in the draw.
No doubt, mate. LOL!
I could murder a Pukka Pie right about now. Almost lunch time.
They are.Just wide by Shane Long.A perfect last name for a member of Fat Sam's squad.
Sounds like a plan mate. We don't have them in Harlingen. Advantage Fat Sam As Steve Clarke tries to have his players play football the correct way
A booking for Joey O'Brien , then Chris Brunt shoots right at Jussi from long range.
Hammers fans are singing, "You're supposed to be at home" at the Baggies.
BLOODY HELL! Thirty minutes in and this was the first corner of the match as James Collins headed down and Winston reid volleyed well over. They're definitely not strikers
Decent turn by Long but the shot was always going to be low percentage at the near post.
Nice from the Hammers fans. A weak effort from Shane Long is wide.
UWs is in better health than this suppsosed football match
I reckon that UWS has coughed up better than this stuff this morning.
That was better as it was a nice turn by Carlton Cole and a powerful effort was beaten out by Bo Myhill
West Ham gradually working their way into this match.
Nice one, BD! It said that the Baggies have seven shots. I know two were right to Jussi , so the others must have been well off target
Hammers players huffing and puffing just like their manager
The commentator thinks Fat Sam's reputation as a dinosaur is unfair - why?
I heard the M1 is Fat Sam's favortie road because his teams go route one!
Sounds fair to me.
The fans are bored too.
The Hawthorns as quiet as a morgue today.
Bloody hell - that lack of control from Odemwinge sums up this first half. Blow up, ref!
One minutye of stoppage time. Too much, IMHO.
That's that - I'm going to whip out the smelling salts - and some lunch. Back in a tick.
Finally !!! Halftime and 0-0. So bad that a chorus of boos ring out from the Hawthorns.
BOOM BOOM WARREN! He said he wishes it was full time instead of halftime. I thought the Hawthorns was supposed to be the hioghest ground in England, noT the longest!
Enjoy your lunch and I hope you are revived for the second half. You will need all the strength you can muster
More jibes from the FSC crew as they were stating that the altitude got to the players.
The second half is underway from THE HIGHEST, NOT LONGEST GROUND IN ENGLAND!
Fat Sam will claim that it was the Altitude that caused the ball to travel so far.
NOT BUYING IT, FAT SAM!
I'm back for more in the second half and the first thing I see is more head tennis and set piece action (sigh)
The Baggies wontheir first corner of the match and it was headed out fior the second. That was clered off the line for the Baggies' thrris and now out for their fourth corner.
THAT'S MORE LIKE IT!
Then vollyed wide by Jim Morrison after he had an earlier shot come off the bar
Then more head tennis in the Baggies box as Gary O' Neill nearly puts the Hammers in the lead.
Nice one from Warren - I'm with him in spirit.
Did you read my altitude jokes?
Useless effort from Mulumbu after a poor clearance from James Collins.
Now kevin Nolan gets in on the act as he slices a shot horribly wide after Carlton Cole did well to chest down a long ball.
I did - I'm not buying that as an excuse either.
So it's long ball on the high pitch!
You know, I've said this before but it bears repeating. If Carlton Cole is a Premiership striker, I could be too. And I'd offer my services at half his wages. I'd trundle up and down the pitch, looking not terribly interested and not score.
Excellent, BD. A horrible effort from Odemwingie who shot more like a lead boot boy then a GBB!
I think it's fair to say that none of the players on show this afternoon will become the next GBB.
