Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Good afternoon, BD. I am at work, but should be able to join you for part of the first half on espn3.com. The first match post Adkins
Afternoon, MUR - great to have you on board!
The team news out of St. Mary's as the teams step out:
Southampton (4-2-3-1): Boruc; Clyne, Yoshida, Hooiveld, Shaw; Cork, Schneiderlin; Puncheon, Ramirez, Do Prado; Lambert.
Subs: K Davis, S Davis, Rodriguez, Fox, Richardson, Chaplow, De Ridder.
Everton (4-4-2): Howard; Coleman, Jagielka, Distin, Baines; Naismith, Neville, Osman, Pienaar; Jelavic, Fellaini.
Subs: Mucha, Heitinga, Oviedo, Mirallas, Hitzlsperger, Anichebe, Duffy.
Everton start this afternoon in 5th with a chance to close the gap with Spurs in 4th.
It's an even more vital match for the Saints, who come into this one in 15th and more importantly with a new boss, Mauricio Pochettino, in charge after that shock sacking of Nigel Adkins last week. How will the side respond? How will the fans respond? It should be fascinating.
I'm watching the Sky feed through First Row. Great to see Gary Neville in the studio doing the pre-match analysis.
Teams coming out on what looks like an exceedingly chilly evening at St. Mary's. Good crowd response to the side.
Very conservative line-up for Pochettino with two holding middies and only Ricky Lambert up front.
Hello BD. I am back and ready for the action. I will watch on espn3.com
Kick-off time, then. Soton to get us underway.
Early free kick aimed by the Little Neviller at the head of Hair Bear. Cleared out.
Decent start from the Saints,
Puncheon's shot is deflected out for a corner.
Nice fizz to the start of this one. The Saints are clearly intent on impressing the new boss.
After umpteen attempts , I am finally able to get a video , but without audio. The quality is poor, but better than nothing
Useless cross by Hair Bear. The Saints seemed to do okay with the old boss too.
Fans holding up pro Adkins signs. Just like RDM at The Bridge
Naughty by Da Prado on Jags, but only a lecture.
Nasty one by Do Prado on Jags - no yellow card.
How's your week starting, mate?
A long free kick by Baines is headed on by Hair Bear and headed harmlessly wide by Jelavic
First decent chance for Everton. Long ball to Hair Bear who nodded to Jelavic. Weak header in the end.
A decent, quiet start. Little traffic due to the holiday and a surreal feeling as I was the only one that had to go to work, so really quiet when I woke up. How did your week start?
Great effort from Do Prado that Timmy had to deal with. Corner.
It appeared that Timmy pushed out a shot for a corner that was heading wide and the corner went out for a goal kick. Horrible
Eerily quiet today, as well. I think I was the only one in my department over in the office today.
I know you are working on getting an article published. Hope all is well with that. Glad to see you are really dedicated.
I'm noticing more Sandy Hook conspiracy videos on my FB feed recently. Disgusting. Those kids deserve better.
Yeah - just got a review article out yesterday. And revising a chapter today. It never ends....
Agreed. That is terrible . I did unfriend one person who was posting some offensive pro NRA stuff , so a lot of it might originate from him.
This game has settled into a bit of a dull lull now. Very few chances at either end.
Well done . Keep up the good work.
The Saints win a corner off of Baines
A skirmish at the corner that the ref sorts out. Distin heads weakly wide from a corner taken by Baines.
I did visit with JDLC yesterday.
How was that?
Oh - off the post from a terrific free kick!
Great save BY Timmy of a Rickie Lambert free kick. The best chance of the match
I've never understood why keepers cheat so far to their left at free kicks like that.
Soton continue to press - Do Prado racing through there but collected by Timmy.
It went well. He was discussing the same issues that he did when you and Gooner were visiting. We also talked about our high school experience.
Oh - great shot by Naismith through a crowd. Boruc collected well.
Did you meet up in McAllen or Harlingen?
Jan Hoiveld booked for afters on Hair Bear. That Dutch/ Belgian animosity
In McAllen.Took Melanie to orchestra practice then met up in McAllen
Hoiveld is another hard-nosed Dutchman. So much for "Total Football" in Holland these days.
Nice - sounds like a good day out. I'm glad that the two of you have reconnected.
Agreed. It has become almost German imitation footie.
Cheers, BD. We had a great afternoon. We talked for about two hours , then it was time to pick up Melanie
Oh - Timmy saves well one-on-one with Ricky Lambert.
Great Saints counter as Timmy made a great save from Lambert then another player headed the rebound straight to Timmy.
I have a class getting ready to start and I need to teach a lesson, but will try to join you for the second half. Cheers mate
In African Nation's Cup action today, Nigeria have drawn 1-1 with Burkino Faso and Zambia have also drawn 1-1 with Ethiopia.
Cheerio, mate - have a good class!
Everton have not impressed me this afternoon. They seem to be having trouble getting their forwards into the match, particularly Steven Pienaar.
Half an hour gone and still goalless. A goal would really liven this one up.
Small shout for a pen there for Soton. Distin seemed to push Yoshida over. Nothing doing.
And now Lambert has gone down in the box - didn't look like a pen.
Soton fans getting a bit fed up now.
Oh - Ramirez made a great run on the outside of Baines and pulled a good save out of Timmy. Corner.
Oh - Lambert had a free header but it was cleared out the line. Everton really living close to the vest here.
Schneiderlin goes into the book for a reckless one on Naismith.
Oh - quick as you like Jelavic had a real chance on the break there. That's the danger of Everton in a nutshell.
Oh - great cross by Puncheon but Lambert misses wide left. Big chance!
The minute of stoppage time is just about up now. A disappointing first half. 0-0.
We're back on at St. Mary's - the Toffees get us started.
Oh - Hair Bear had a half chance there at the backpost.
More pressure from the Saints now. Corner.
There's the scheduled tribute for Nigel Adkins - brief but well received.
Hello BD. I don't know what I missed , but I guess there weren't any goals scored.
A reshuffle now for Everton with Anichebe to replace Coleman who is unable to continue. Little Neviller will shift into right back and Hair Bear will drop back to give some cover.
Welcome back, MUR - no, you certainly didn't miss goals but Lambert should have had a hat-trick. Everton lucky to survive.
Soton would like to bring on Jay Rodriguez.
I just saw Jelavic whiff. He seems to be having a sophomore slump
Oh - Jelavic, who was so deadly last season - is having a 'mare right now. Great chance spurned.
I saw the ANC update. Four out of five matches have ended in a draw.
Do Prado off for Rodriguez who controversially dived to "earn" a penalty that secured a vital win for Soton recently.
A bit boring then in the ANC.
An hour gone and we're no closer to a winning goal.
Not the best night for Jelavic who's trotting off to be replaced by Belgian international Kevin Mirales.
Oh - a good break for Soton spoiled by a errant ball from Lambert.
Oh - great move from Everton through Hair Bear to Anichebe but Boruc saved well in the end.
Odd - Jason Puncheon has gone off to have a quick slash. Soton down to ten men temporarily.
And now they're down to nine men as Ramirez is down with cramp. What next?
Stephen Davies on to replace Ramirez...and Puncheon is back as well.
Nice one - Soton fans singing, "He went for a shit, he went for a shit - Jason Puncheon - he went for a shit."
Puncheon smiling at them.
I was helping some students and texting with JDLC. We agreed to meet whenever I drive Melanie to symphony practice.
LOVELY! They should direct that to their idiotic Board
And now it's "he shits when he wants, he shits when he wants. Jason Puncheon - he shits when he wants."
Lovely stuff.
Still 0-0. I guess Ian and Macca are glad they don't have to commentate, but the poor Spanish language announcers do
Well done, mate.
More Sotton injuries. What type of training regime is being conducted by Senor Pochettino
It appears that both sides are settled with a draw now. They're having a water break now. Very relaxed.
Ta, BD. Great that we can continue to meet.
It seems that way.The new manager seems to have a conservative, La Liga style approach
With a little long ball mixed in.
Definitely seems that way, MUR. I'm not liking it.
Everton have also been more long ball today than I've seen this season. Has made for a poor spectacle.
Agreed. It makes for less entertaining football. UWS was better off visiting Cortland today
Soton with a corner chance now - Puncheon to take.
Yeah - I hope he had decent weather. It's been snowing like crazy all day here. But we should get the snow this time of year.
High of 12 degrees tomorrow - crikey!
Crikey indeed. It's supposed to be in the mid to upper 70s every day through Friday this week. Wish you could be here for that
Oh - Lambert had another headed chance at the back post.
I thought I saw a header land on top of the net when I was helping a student.
As you stated it seems that both managers seem content with a 0-0 draw.
As you stated it seems that both managers seem content with a 0-0 draw.
Wide by Steven Davis off a corner.
Steve De Ridder on for Jason Puncheon.
Puncheon off for De Ridder now - he can shit to his heart's content.
He sure can now that he's off the pitch. Will the Saints fans be directing that towards Senor Pochettino the next few weeks
One minute of the four minutes of stoppage time have been played before the fans are put out of their misery
Well - I suppose a point suits Soton today but it sure doesn't suit Everton who are chasing a European spot. If Liverpool continue to improve, they could pip their city neighbors.
A late corner from Baines is punched out by Boruc and a foul is called.
Time's almost up here - Everton left in 5th and Soton in 15th. Honor's even.
It finished a dull 0-0 draw and as you stated it is a better result for Sotton
Just under fifteen minutes of class left here
That's enough for me today. I may have a chance to blog the League Cup semi tomorrow.
Cheerio!
Cheers BD. It was great chatting with you.
