The Best Day of the Season
The romance of the Cup is in the air this morning, as I'm settling in with a cup of coffee and bagel to enjoy the 3rd Round - still the greatest day of the season. Last year, we were invading Tejas and holing up at the MUR Castle in Harlingen for the festivities. This year, I'm bunkering inside The Cottage on a snowbound Fredonia weekend.
It's all about Fox this morning. We start with Blackburn v. Citeh on Fox Sports 1 in a few moments. That's followed by Rochdale v. Leeds at 10am and then the big one - the North London Derby - on the regular Fox channel at 12:15. Join me for all the action!

Morning, chaps! First up is the Northwest Derby between Blackburn and Citeh at Ewood Park.
Here are the line-ups:
Blackburn: Robinson, Henley, Dann, Grant Hanley, Spurr, Cairney, Lowe, Taylor, Williamson, Marshall, Gestede. Subs: Kilgallon, King, Campbell, Rhodes, Eastwood, Rochina, Judge.
Man City: Pantilimon, Boyata, Lescott, Nastasic, Clichy, Milner, Fernandinho, Javi García, Silva, Negredo, Dzeko. Subs: Hart, Kompany, Zabaleta, Kolarov, Jesús Navas, Touré, Lopes.
Referee: Michael Oliver.
The panel in the Fox Soccer studio are focusing on the gutless decision to bench Jordan Rhodes, clearly Blackburn's biggest threat today. Blackburn are going defensive then.
Good morning Bob. I am up bright and early to join you. Great picture!
Benching Jordan Rhodes is a brainless decision. I guess this is another example of a team not taking the FA Cup seriously.
Blackburn about to kick us off this morning at Ewood Park.
They're off from Ewood Park as I have my hot cuppa.
Morning, MUR - great to have you on board this morning. I agree with you about the Blackburn line-up.
I just noticed that they are using an orange ball in this match
An orange ball is being used today. It's officially winter.
Snap!
Ta, Bob. I think Rudy Gestede, the former Cardiff striker, is playing up front for Rovers in this match.
Only one fixture called off today - Charlton v. Oxford.
Did you see that Ole was named the new Cardiff manager yesterday?
Credit to Citeh as they put out close to a full strength lineup.
Yeah - it's just Dzeko in for the favored Negredo.
I did see that and was expecting that. I wish him the best considering that he will be working under difficult circumstances.
There Gestede in action, giving it his all, but fouling Lescott.
Milner wins a Citeh corner.
I guess Charlton vs Oxford was called off due to excessive rain.
Yes - that's exactly the problem there. Clearly no proper undersoil heating and drainage facilities at Charlton.
Would United be interested in Jordan Rhodes?
Blackburn are actually an in form team. Up to tenth place and just three points outside a playoff spot after hovering above the relegation zone most of the season.
I would take him for sure.
Jamie Milner and Clichy not quite on the same wavelength.
Who's the manager at Blackburn now?
Useless pass from Milner. Surely he was taught properly at the LUFC Academy.
According to Wikipedia, it's Gary Bowyer, son of Ian.
Milner fails to win a throw and looks none too pleased about the stick I gave him a minute ago.
Who is Ian Bowyer?
Not a lot of goalmouth action so far in this one. Good thing I've had a strong cuppa.
He was a midfield player for Forest in the late 70s when they won the League Championship and European Cup.
Where have you gone, Paul Robinson - the Elland Road faithful turn their lonely eyes to you - woo woo woo....
Chris Taylor has a long range effort deflected for a corner as he won a tackle in midfield. Scott Dann heads straight to Pantilimon off the corner.
Great picture on Thomas Nocito's FB page of him and UWS wearing the Cortland jersey.
Are you looking for Paul to make a return to ER? Matty Kilgallon, on the subs bench , can join him, LOL!
Blackburn have a chance now - they need to make the most of these.
Now a corner, as the crowd starts revving up.
Rovers have a free kick just ouside the box and Lescott heads out for a Rovers corner.
The corner was headed straight to Pantilimon.
Nastasic was booked for conceding the free kick earlier.
No - I'm happy with Paddy Kenny, alright. But the trajectory of Robinson's career from England's #1 to playing in the Championship with Blackburn is a sad reminder of what has happened to Leeds in the past ten years.
At least Rovers have shown that they are not going to let Citeh bully them.
Good point, Bob. Hopefully, Leeds will have a better next ten years.
I never figured out the last Michael. I was thinking of Ricketts , but I don't think he made 100 Prem appearances.
Milner overeggs the pudding a bit with that cross.
Great pass from Milner to Robinson, his former LUFC Academy teammate, Is that what he did in the good old days?
Robinson looking none too clever in that challenge with Negredo.
I noticed that Jordan Rhodes is on the subs bench in case Rovers want to go 4-4-2.
You'd have to say that Bowyer's game plan has worked so far.
Fred is an FA Cup cat as he is sitting on my desk nest to the computer.
Yes - Bowyer can go with Rhodes in the second half if needed.
It has gone really well. Kudos to Bowyer.
Poor final ball from Boyata, the reserve right back. Zaba would have done better,
Gooner and your dad must be excited about the big match, getting to ready to feat on some spuds.
Yep - I think they're hoping for some au gratin later this afternoon.
Citeh's best attack of the match and Silva shoots near the Pukka Pie vendor when unmarked in the box.
They will want to forget Rovers who upset them at the EM last season.
Cor! Whip out the smelling salts! This one's as slow as a re-run of "Murder She Wrote."
Milner runs the ball out of play, but I think I've given more than my fair share of stick about the LUFC Academy.
BOOM BOOM. Well stated.
I noticed that at 10 AM Rochdale vs Leeds is on FS 1 and Grimsby vs Hudders is on FS2. I think Bob will opt for FS2, LOL!
Negredo is penalized for a push as he tried to get onto that Dzeko deflected shot.
Negredo called for a push as Jerko had a shot deflected straight to him.
GOAL! Negredo comes good again, right on the stroke of half-time. A devastating blow to Blackburn.
GOAL !!! NEGREDO SCROES OFF A CORNER ON THE STROKE OF HALFTIME. IT WAS WELL HEADED ON BY JERKO AND A GREAT VOLLEYED FINISH.
Well, that means that Blackburn will have to come out and actually play in the second half. Cue Mr. Rhodes?
To be honest, I saw this coming as Rovers were sitting back and it was a spell of constant Citeh pressure.
Halftime and Citeh lead by that recent goal. The answer to your question is yes.
Morning Boys
Sorry, I slept in a little today
I am here for the duration except for a walk here and there
Oh my Giddy Aunt!!!
Leeds United are the second game on FS1 today!!
WELL DONE MATE
Good morning UWS. How have you been?
Good morning UWS. How have you been?
The second half is underway
We're off the for the second half
Morning MUR… I'm bloody freezing!
No Jordan Rhodes. I wonder if Gary Bowyer will wait another fifteen minutes before bringing him on.
I heard about that. Hope you have hot cuppa and some blankies to help stay warm.
Bournemouth and Burton Albion has just been called off
Morning, UWS! Great to have you around for the duration, sleepyhead.
Yes - you'll be feasting on some proper football at 10am. Can't wait!
I am off to take Sparky to the groomers and take Elizabeth grocery shopping. I will be back near the end of the match.
I've just gone to get my LUFC blankie.
Cheerio, mate - see you later.
That Charlton match was talking called off yesterday
So was the 2nd Round Replay that was scheduled today
When did you know that Leeds were on?
I've just seen that. So, Crawley Town will be in the pot for the 4th Round!
Our resident LOB Anorak MUR spotted that mid-week and alerted me.
I honestly do not know why the Fox suits thought that Rochdale v. Leeds was the best match at 10am. What about Everton v. QPR or Newcastle v. Cardiff?
It's only the second time I'll have seen my boys live this season.
YES!!!!
BLACKBURN HAVE TIED IT UP!!
GOAL! Blackburn are level after Pants bobbled the header!
I'd love to see Citeh get knocked out today!!
Also I want Chelsea GONE!!
Derby have been good under the Wally with a Brolly
Joe Hart will have enjoyed that one.
Just texted MUR
Derby have a chance, especially if Jose doesn't take the match seriously.
Shouldn't you want a draw out of this one, to give Citeh another match to deal with?
Heck of a long throw there
I saw you talking about about a yellow ball..it is more like SALMON!
Off to the loo!
It almost sounds as if we're getting a bit of bleeding in from the commentator seated next to the Fox one in the commentary box.
You know what that means - cue the goal!
Blackburn pouring on the pressure now.
Oh - just wide from Negredo after Dzeko's initial shot. Robinson did well.
Cue the reserves now - Yaya on.
And Blackburn have brought Josh King on.
Boyata becomes the first player into the book today.
I am back and no goal!!!
Is it freezing west of the state?
We came home from Charlotte a day early to beat the storm
We left NC at 9:40 a.m on NYD. We arrived home at 10:15 pm. We hit snow just as we arrived in NYS at Binghamton
In the PPP predictions:
Blue Devil, MUR, The Red Devil, Someone Said have picked Citeh
Chelskilad, Matt, Sporting, Swansong, UWS have picked United
Gooner, The Red Dragon, Simon have picked Chelski
Yellows has picked Norwich and, of course, WHR has picked his beloved Hammers.
United's game is tomorrow AND then they play Sunderland in the League Cup Semi on Tuesday!!!
The powers above aren't making it easy for teams to put it all out for Cup games
It's actually a pretty nice day today. But it was absolutely freezing the day I came back. Terrible driving conditions.
It's about time - Bowyer is going with Jordan Rhodes finally with just over ten minutes to play.
MUR said that he wouldn't mind seeing Jordan Rhodes at OT - what say you?
DJ Campbell as well to come on - so Blackburn are rolling the dice now.
Nah
We need a lot more than a Championship stiker
Just sat down on the couch using Tom's laptop
Lovely jubbly - is Tom home for the holidays?
He posted a lovely double image of him and you in Cortland colors - of course, you wouldn't have seen that as you're not on FACEBOOK!
Oh - how did Navas miss that one!?
I am back. Thanks for the update, UWS.
Just wide by Navas!!!
The TV is just a second ahead of my SS link… then I lose my link!!
That was a great chance.
Welcome back, MUR!
DJ Campbell heads wide off a cross from, Jordan Rhodes.
Ta, Bob. Great to be back
A replay would mean fixture congestion for Citeh as they have the two semi matches vs the Hammers as well.
All hands to the pump now for Blackburn.
Yup
Tom is home until Jan 20th or so
He did show me the picture he had. He took a picture of the big one I had for my mum that was taken my freshman year.
He then put it next to a picture of him… our faces look the same and we are almost in the same running position!
Classic
How many people have commented on BookFace?
Boyata is already in trouble! And he's off - Citeh down to ten men!
Boyata who apparently plays for Citeh… is off!!
Citeh down to ten men for five minutes
WAY HAY! Boyata is off or a second yellow. a dumb foul leaving the ref no choice. Rovers up a man.
I would love to see the picture of you and Tom in your Cortland uniforms.
Just wide by Rhodes
My brother was first to comment, then Jamie Schmidt, then Debs, then Heidi Leaver, then Bruno How and then me.
It appears that Citeh will have midweek matches three weeks in a row.
The top six sides will be loving this.
Lescott heads out for a Rovers corner.
You're on BookFace… take a look on Tom's page
Zaba on for Silva.
Citeh violating the "never bring a sub on for a set piece" edict - Zaba is on.
Will do, UWS. Tom the better looking in the C State uniform?
Rochdale v. Leeds - Up Next! Lovely jubbly!
I can't stand the way the teams are treating the FA Cup..
When is going to stop
The FA Cup should mean the world to everyone
I watching FA Cup matches on Youtube yesterday… classic stuff
It's UWS in the classic Peter Beardsley running stance.
Four minutes of stoppage time.
Zaba wins a Citeh corner And Citeh maintain possession.
Agreed
Not sure which game Tom is playing in but I am playing RPI and I scored in that game! Tom didn't!!!!
Come on Rovers!!
UWS bragging!
One of Tom's friends said that I looked like the Italians kids in Kicking and Screaming
YES I AM
I've never heard such arrogant boasting - cor!
Game over
Well done Rovers
That's it - both sides into the pot for the 4th Round.
Next up - THE BIG ONE!
It's over and a replay at the Etihad as Rovers superbly held Citeh to a 1-1 draw.
I had a discouraging Junior year at Cortland and so did Tom this year
My senior year was much better and i was voted all NY State… same to follow for Tom too
Definitely arrogant from UWS. Getting a fair amount of stick on the LOB this morning.
Did FS1 choose this next game because they think there will be a shock!!!
Congrats on that and hoping for the same for Tom.
I am not sure, but I think Bob will be opting for Grimsby vs Hudders on FS2.
Looks like a full strength lineup for the Whites. A shame that Bob will be watching the match on FS 2 instead.
Roon out for the match vs the Swans tomorrow. The announcer said he's been one of the few bright spots for United. I think not, but what sayeth UWS?
Brad Freidel Starting for the Spuds. He is referred to as the net minder. No winder why NBC won the bid to broadcast Prem matches.
I think you're right - they're still thinking of Leeds as a "Big Club" and assuming that there is a possibility of giant-killing.
The starting line-ups at Rochdale:
Rochdale - Lillis, Bennett, Cavanagh, Lancashire, O'Connell, Done, Vincenti, Hogan, Lund, Bunney, Henderson. Subs: Rafferty, Eastham, Donnelly, Thomson, Allen, Cummins, Dicker.
Leeds - Kenny, Peltier, Pearce, Wootton, Zaliukis, Murphy, Austin, Pugh, Smith, Ross, Byram. Subs: Lees, Hunt, Brown, Tonge, Poleon, Ariyibi, Cairns.
MOT!!!!!
Looks like a full strength lineup for the Whites. Do you want updates while you watch the match on FS2?
Come on, you pale gold and blues!
Shoube
COME ON YOU MUSTARD AND NAVY BLUES
Wahay - an early free kick chance earned by Ross.
Ross wins and early free kick
I reckon that Rudy might blast one here.
No - Ross sticks it straight into the wall and then Danny Pugh - well, he'll want that one back. High, wide and 'orrible.
Not sure why they're using an orange ball today - it's not snowy anywhere in Blighty.
Lovely jubbly - shout out to the big win at OT a couple of seasons ago.
I noticed that you've been ignoring the stick I've been giving you about the match on FS2.
Rochdale really giving it a go here.
Poor form about the win at OT. Rather naughty.
Don't care about the match on FS2. MOT!!!!!
True, but no real quality from Dale.
"We're going to see you win, la la la la la la..."
I knew you wouldn't . I was just teasing, HEE HEE!
The LUFC blankie is feeling rather cosy this morning.
Where's UWS gone - I can't believe he's scarpered during the big one.
When I lived in England there was a joke about Rochdale. What does it have in common with outer space? No Atmosphere!
UWS said he was freezing!
Heart in mouth time, Bunney runs into the box and hammers home - flag's up. Phew!
The aptly named Bunney was offside , to the relief of Bob, as he had the ball in the back of the net.
What on earth is Danny Pugh playing at? Typical Man Yoo product.
Other Cup news. Clint starts for Fulham at Carrow Road and OGS in his first match in charge of the Red Dragons at SJP.
Well, he would be since he's going outside with the dog every fifteen minutes. That's what the teenagers are for - what's he doing!?
Bloody Norah that was close - the header flashed wide.
OH! just wide off the Dale corner.
Pugh more like a Man Yoo reject. Showing why he couldn't make it at OT.
Route 1 stuff from both sides now.
Agreed, Bob. He needs to delegate.
Oh dear - Sam Byram is getting himself into trouble by kicking the ball away. Just a bollocking.
Hull City take the lead at the Riverside.
Bolton take the lead vs Blackpool
I am back after a bloody freezing walk
What did I miss
Bolton are 1-0 up over Blackpool through David N'Gog.
I am sure you are not pleased with the Leeds performance so far. Poor pass from Austin.
And Hull have taken an early lead at Boro through McLean.
