Some Fascinating Sunday Matches
Yesterday we saw the bottom half of the table in action. Today it's primarily the top half of the table as it's the Toon vs the Gunners followed by Chelsea vs Pool on NBCSN. There are several other Prem matches as well as a full schedule of Championship and matches from other divisions too. A must see.

The teams are out of the tunnel. A fantastic atmosphere at SJP.
Morning, MUR - thanks for starting the thread this morning. I'm really looking forward to this double header (along with the Championship matches, of course).
The match is underway from SJP
Good morning Bob. My pleasure. I am looking forward to chatting with you this interesting Sunday morning
The team news at kick-off:
Newcastle): Krul; Debuchy, Coloccini (c), Williamson, Santon; Anita, Tioté, Cabaye; Sissoko, Remy, Gouffran.
Arsenal: Szczesny, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs, Flamini, Rosicky, Wilshere, Walcott, Cazorla, Giroud
The Gunners need a win to go back top. If the Toon win they go fifth and the Gunners move down to fourth if Chelsea vs Pool is not a draw. Got it?
A tough trip for the Whites today. I saw Forest defeat QPR and they are just as talented as Cardiff Palace. A definite test later this morning.
Oh - Wilshere nearly bundled his way through for a chance on goal.
I forgot that Everton vs Sotton just kicked off.
Are you still at Gooner Central? It must be a lively start to your Sunday morning.
Tremendous Arsenal pressure now with Gibbs having two bites at the cherry to find a teammate in the center.
Lots of Gunners pressure early doors.
Still at Gooner Central. Gooner and the family return this evening and I'll be heading to Richmond on Tuesday to spend New Year's Eve with Kate's family and then driving back to Fred-town on New Year's Day.
Parlez Vous Francais ? An interesting Toon stat as 26 out of 29 goals have been scored by French players. Very French, even by Wenger's standards.
Arsenal as usual are trying to pass their way into the goal.
Wow! A busy next few days. Does that mean you will miss New Year's Footie?
Dis donc!
Tiote will have his hands ful chopping Arsenal players down this afternoon.
A typically sneaky, cynical foul by the vile Tiote. I imagine Gooner had plenty to say about that and I don't blame him.
Bon Francais, Monsieur Bob!
Seamus Coleman has fired Everton into the lead in the 9th minute - and Everton are up into 4th!
The first Toon attack as Debuchy made a superb run, but his final touch was atrocious. Chris Waddle says he would have done better in his day.
Tiote would start on a yellow if I were reffing today.
Great defending by Kos on Debuchy . It actually should have been a corner.
No doubt Chrissie would have.
I would do the same with Tiote,
Newcastle really pegged back so far.
I just saw the Everton score. Double cheer for Someone and Toffees fans as they swap places with Pool. They will love that. United stuck in in sixth if the Toffees win. own to seventh if the Toon also win.
Citeh visit SJP in two weeks. We will see if this Toon team are the real deal.
Ed (Someone Said) will be happy - Kris Commons has put Celtic 0-1 up at Inverness.
I reckon that Newcastle are strictly mid-table.
The next two matches at SJP will be true test
Newcastle have a chance to lump it into the Arsenal box. Which they do - but it's cleared.
Indeed.
A great Sunday footie morning for Someone.
Sagna wins a corner off of Santon off a great pass from Car Thola.
Waddle is begging Caz to shoot instead of always looking to lay it off.
Car Thola takes it short to Theo then back to Car Thola then the Toon clear off a poor punch from Kroll and the Gang.
I agree with Chrissy W. Young Jack does and it's well over , threatening the Pukka Pie Vendor.
Surely that's Krul and the Gang, right?
Debuchy has a go from an acute angle - ambitious!
Debuchy shoots wide when a pass was the better option.
Correct mon frère. It is Krool and the Gang, although Gooners may prefer Kroll
This doesn't look like a repeat of the 7-3 thriller from last season.
Rosicky follows Waddle's orders and lets fly - straight at Krul.
Rosickky straight at Krul
Nor the 4-4. More like the 0-1 that clichéd the Wenger trophy in May.
That sounds more like it.
Great tackle by Williamson on Giroud. A full blooded , fair tackle.
That Williamson tackle would have been consider a finger nail clipping by the Whites of the 70s under Revie?
Absolutely - you don't get away with a Norman Hunter tackle these days.
Well wide by Giroud, who lost his scoring touch
A player with a name like Anita would have been taught a lesson or two by the likes of Hunter or Bremner.
Naughty by Giroud on Tiote. Some French conservation involving vocabulary not taught by Madame Thompson.
Arsene may have to go to his bench for Poldi early as TIote knobbles Giroud. Still no card for Tiote.
Giroud booked to the delight of Toon fans as he hobbles off.
Not even a Hallmark card for Tiote? He never saw a card he didn't like.
I agree with Jon Champion - the atmosphere in the SJP is better than the match, which has been scrappy with Newcastle defending deep.
Nice one, MUR!
Bleedin' heck. Celtic fourteen points clear of second placed well with only half the season played. Just hand them the SPL trophy. Hearts bottom with -3 points. They are basically doomed.
Sissoko goes over Flamini's knee on the edge of the box - nothing from the ref.
Ta, Bob.
The SPL is a joke of a league.
Did Flamini get away with one there? Almost as bad as Tiote.
Agreed, Bob. Hearts definitely are not the Ace of Hearts this season.
Finally Tiote gets a bollocking but still no Hallmark card.
I agree with Chrissy Waddle that there should never be a no more with Tiote and that's a former Toon player speaking
Not a lot of quality in that free kick routine from the Gunners.
He's never going to win a popularity contest
Now Tiote has elbowed Theo in the face - again there's nothing done to Tiote. What does he have to do to get a card today?
Not sure if Tiote elbowed Theo. Not much in that even though Gooners will beg to differ.
A lot like Citeh vs Palace yesterday.
Two minutes of stoppage time.
Not the most inspiring first half of football I've seen this season, for sure.
Kos blocks from Cabaye then just over from Cissoko then Williamson heads off the bar from, a Cabye corner.
The half time whistle comes with a flurry of action and I'm off to clean up.
Halftime and 0-0 at SJP as those two efforts from the Toon at the end of the half were the closest either team came to scoring. As Bob stated, not the most inspiring half of footie.
Nice solo goal and great finish by Seamus Coleman. His fifth BPL goal of the season and most of those have been crackers.
Giroud seems to be wincing a bit as he runs back out of the tunnel. Not a good sign for the Gunners.
The second half is underway from SJP.
That early sequence shows why Caz is Frustrating while Ozil is not. He was played in one on one with the keeper and yet wasn't direct enough to go at goal. Ozil would have born down on Krul.
No changes for either side - so can we really expect any improvement?
One nil to the Celtic as they win by that margin at Callie and go fourteen points clear of Well who play at Thistle in a little while.
IS Ozil out injured, suspended, or being rested?
Bit of a scramble in the Gunners box. Cleared out.
Ozil has a shoulder injury - he's not on the bench.
The Championship fixtures, including Leeds v. Forest start up at the top of the hour.
A huge loss for the Gunner. Is it a long term injury?
That's the MOTD in the Championship. Not televised on BEIN as they are showing " The best of BEIN" all morning.
That's promising - there is a link for the Leeds match. The link isn't up and running yet but I'll check back in a tick.
Any updates on Fabio Borini? He was subbed at halftime by Gus for being "ill." Later it was announced he was hospitalized after collapsing unconscious in the dressing room. Hope he's okay.
I am guessing the usual link.
Jon Champion has resorted to chatting about goals in previous fixtures in order to try to liven up what's been a dreadful match so far.
Flamini with a shot closer to the Pukka Pie vendor than the goal.
Agreed. It's been horrible. What sayeth Gooner and dad?
Now they are resorting to showing former Toon players to liven up this match
Cabaye has picked up a knock in an incident with Sagna.
My brother , a Citeh fan, will be pleased about events at SJP.
That Theo cross sums it all up - where's the quality, UWS would say if he were here.
I've seen better crossing from nuns than in this match.
Indeed. Boom boom!
Gouffran is trooping off to be replaced by Ben Arfa.
Ben Arfa for Cabaye as Pardew apparently smells blood.
Ta, Bob. Also, I wonder if UWS is watching from Charlotte. I would imagine he is far from impressed.
Did you hear what happened to Fabio Borini of Sunderland yesterday?
Is that finally Tiote's yellow card - no, he's gotten away with it again!
Another foul by Tiote and another warning. Surely his agent has paid off someone.
I heard that he collapsed.
GOAL! Giroud has done it for the Arsenal!
Simple goal - very un-Arsenal like, from a set piece. Chipped in by Theo and nodded home by the Frenchman.
0-1 Gunners!
GOAL!!! GIROUD FLICKS ON A THE FREE KICK FROM THEO AS HE GLANCED IT OFF HIS HEAD. POOR FROM A TOON POINT OF VIEW AS HE WAS COMPLETYELY UNMARKED.
Arsenal back on top.
Ben Arfa wins a corner as the Gunners go top
The goals had somewhat dried up for Giroud after an early spate. 8 in the Premiership now.
Merte heads away the corner from Santon then Santon with a shot that threatens the ball boy more than the goal
Arsene responds to the goal by turning to Arteta to anchor things.
Correct about Borini. That is why he was subbed at the half. I hope he's okay. I think he had an IV and regained consciousness.
If Tiote had been sent off then he could not have assisted on the Arsenal goal.
Oh - how did Arsenal contrive to miss that chance?
OH! The Gunners should have been two up . Two glaring misses, one from Theo and one from Giroud. Theo had a soft shot saved with Krul's feet then off the line by Debuchy. Giroud shoots well wide of an open goal.
Rowdy at Gooner Central? This match has come to life.
The Toon now down to seventh and are down to eighth if Spurs defeat Stoke.
Not at all - it's just me and a sleeping dog.
Ramirez has equalized for Soton at Goodison. Everton back down to 5th.
Gooner not watching his beloved Gunners go top? We have a sleeping dog too.
Shola Ameobi for Anita.
Flamini booked for a foul on Ben Arfa. IS it any worse than what Tiote has done?
Forest kicks off at the City Ground - I'm on the usual First Row link.
Big ruck now at SJP - yellow cards all round from Lee Probert.
Paddy Kenny has taken a knock early doors.
Now Rosicky booked for a foul on Cabaye as Lee Probert needs to gain control of this match and not fall for the play acting.
OUCH! I hope he's okay.
Table topping Foxes take the lead vs Bolton as Haidira is on for Cissoko.
Major Jenkinson on for Theo. Gooners will not be comfortable with that change,
Wolves take the lead vs Orient in a top of the table League One clash. Bristol City take the lead vs the Fake Dons.
Actually, Brentford take the lad vs The Fake Dons while The Blades take the lead vs Tranmere
Bob and Someone will be pleased that the Chunk has put the Toffees 2-1 up vs the Saints.
The Foxes now have a four point lead at the top.
Thistle take the lead vs well as Celtic maintain their fourteen point lead. Hearts trail St. Mirren and are stuck on -3 points.
Brum take the lead at Blackburn while wally in a Brolly's in form Derby take the lead at Barnsley.
Yeovil take the lead at Hudders and Middlesbrough take the lead vs Reading.
Arsenal dropping really deep and just urging Newcastle on to them.
WOW! A shock as Bolton tie it up at the Crisps.
The Gunners hanging on and may rue those missed opportunities.
A scrappy opening at the City Ground. I don't know why we keep playing in weird away kits. Today it's a pale yellow and black number. Why not play in white with Forest in red?
Merte heads out for a late Toon corner.
The Gunners clear as Krul was up for the corner. Four minutes of stoppage time.
Ben Arfa gets it horribly wrong as he dummied Flamini then what should have been a cross was a scuffed shot into the side netting.
Forest have a free kick now.
Brum two up at Blackburn, Leeds opponents on New Years Day and Citeh's in the cup.
Agreed, Bob. They wore Blue and Black on Boxing Day. Lots of kits to sell?
Krul up for the corner as Seudio punched away under pressure from Krul. Ben Arfa shoots well wide
One nil to the Arsenal yet again as they are back on top.
Krul up for another corner - and that's got to be it now. It's often said that champions have to win ugly sometimes. Arsenal have certainly done that today.
Bolton now 1-2 up at the Crisps after trailing early on.
Agreed, Bob. Gooner and dad will be pleased about the result.
Well tie it up at Thistle and Celtic's lead is down to a baker's dozen.
BUGGGER Michael Brown predictably gives away a free kick and Forest convert the chance.
1-0
The Toffees defeat the Saints 2-1 win thanks to a winner from the Chunk and are now up to fourth. That may change depending upon the result at SB.
Sorry Bob. I knew this would be a tough test.
COME ON YOU WHITES!
hUDDERS TIE IT UP VS yEOVIL.
Lost the link temporarily.
Back from a trip to the bog. Did I kiss anything ?
Forest host the Hammers in a 7 AM kickoff in the cup next Sunday. I think Forest can win that one based on current form.
Chelsea vs Pool in a match where a draw helps neither team. winner be third. Will Jose be more attack minded in a battle of tactical managers?
Giving up on that link - it was fouling up my laptop action with too many pop ups. Looking forward to the big match at the top of the hour.
A return to SB for Brendan Rodgers, who was reserve team manger in Jose first spell in charge. Suarez and Ivanovic reunite fir the first time since the biting incident.
Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, BEIN is opting for a highlight show.
Brum three up at Blackburn, who visit ER on New Years Day.
So, we're outside the top six again.
Boro are 2-0 up against Reading now. That actually helps.
Well 1-2 up at Thistle after trailing early and Celtic's lead is down to eleven points.
Do you understand that controversy over Nik Anelka's goal celebrations? It was deemed anti-Semitic.
Correct . Ipswich in sixth level on Points with Leeds ,but one better on gd. Tractor Boys currently drawing 0-0 at Bournemouth.
Supposedly, some French rapper, who has been warned over anti- semitic remarks, uses that symbol. Probably not the best choice of celebrations by Anelka.
Brighton take the lead at Blackpool and
BLOODY NORAH! 3-3 at the Crisps. Was 1-2 minutes ago.
Hudders with two goals in two minutes as they lead Yeovil 3-1. Adam Clayton on the score sheet.
Three goals in four minutes at the Crisps. JB had put Bolton 1-2 up. Anthony Knockaert made it Desmond then Andre Moritz with his second put the Trotters 23 up before a Tim Ream OG tied it up for the Foxes.
So , JB and Adam Clayton on the score sheet, but we need current Whites to be scoring.
So , JB and Adam Clayton on the score sheet, but we need current Whites to be scoring.
Well now 1-3 up at Thistle.
Oldham take the lead at Northoventry
Halftime at the City Ground and Forest lead 1-0.
COME ON YOU WHITES!
Half-time at the City Ground - 1-0 Forest (sigh)
Teams in the tunnel at SB as it is capital time. Spurs vs Stoke at SFL will kick off at the same time.
I just checked the stats and Forest have 61% of the possession and Leeds have yet to register a shot on target. A better second half is in order
And we're away at the Bridge.
They're off from SB as both teams need a win. Winner be third
Yes, indeed, mate. Come on, you Whites!
GOAL ! AN EARLY LEAD FOR POOL AS SKRTEL SCORES OFF A FREE KICK FROM COUTINHO.
GOAL! A mass scramble in the Chelski box and Martin Skrtel pops up to stab it home.
0-1 Pool!
Suarez created the havoc there just getting ahead of Ivanovic, who has the Suarez brief today.
Chelski nearly fire right back through Lamps. Johnson has to clear off the line.
A header from Suarez came off of Ivanovic then Skrtel easily scored. Off the line by Johnson as Chelsea go for the equalizer.
Fumbled by Mignolet that led to the goal line clearance.
Credit to Pool as they are going for it as Brendan Rodgers is up against his mentor.
Cahill heads wide from a free kick from Lamps and really should have tied it up.
Charlton take the lead vs Not a Big Club.
Naughty by willian on Johnson, the former Chelsea player
Hazard goes down, looking for a pen , under the challenge from Lucas. Never a pen.
Mignolet superbly tips over a long range effort from Lamps headed for the upper 90.
