Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Holiday Footer Trivia

Let's get this holiday week started properly with a trivia question that I heard of BBC Five Live the other day:

"Who are the 11 players who have scored hat-tricks during the Christmas period in the Premiership era?"

(Hint: One of these players actually scored two hat-tricks!)

Good luck, chaps!

That is a tough one. Is that December through New Years Day? I will go with RVP, Shearer, Wee Mickey , Andy Cole, Robbie Fowler ,RVP , TH 14and Sir Les for starters. Are any of those correct?

Nice one, MUR - you've got two so far. Robbie Fowler did it for Leeds and TH-14 for Arsenal. No so for RVP, Shearer, Wee Mickey, Cole or Ferdinand.

Yep - definitely a toughie. I doubt whether anyone will get one or two of the surprising ones (I certainly wouldn't).

So, let me give you a clue - several of the hat-trick scorers were the main scorers for their teams and/or had really good scoring years where they were either top scorers or close to it.

Well in, Gooner - yes, Drac was the striker who bagged two hat-tricks, one for Spurs and one for United, during the holiday period.

By the way, we're defining the Christmas period as either on Boxing Day, the Saturday after or New Year's Day.

Sorry, MUR - none of those strikers bagged hat-tricks in the Christmas period.

Sorry, none of those is correct. However, Gooner, there are two other Gunners besides TH-14 who notched Christmas period hat-tricks. Let's be 'aving ya!

Right, then, I'm going to put you out of your misery on this one, starting with the three that you got:

1. Dimitar Berbatov (for Spurs and United)
2. Thierry Henry (Arsenal)
3. Robbie Fowler (Leeds)

And now the eight that you didn't:

1. Gareth Bale (Spurs)
2. Chris Armstrong (Spurs)
3. Theo Walcott (Arsenal)
4. Kevin Campbell (Arsenal)
5. Kevin Phillips (Sunderland)
6. Andy Sinton (QPR)
7. Duncan Ferguson (Everton)
8. Mario Balotelli (Citeh)

I'll have another brain teaser up on Monday.
