Well - They Did It Last Season....?!
No two ways about - the Arsenal have given themselves an uphill battle in tonight's Champions League knock-out round second leg. They go into the Allianz Stadium 2-0 down from the home leg. But they did beat a complacent Bayern side last season 0-2 in similar circumstances, so anything's possible in this funny old game. I'll also have my eye on Leeds up against Reading in one of our make-up matches. Can we bounce back from the 0-4 drubbing at the weekend? MOT!
226 Comments:
I've just noticed that the bloody daylight savings nonsense means that the matches in the Champions League all kick off at 3:45pm EST today. Grrr!
Yup, we have to wait an hour.
I don't have class this week so it doesn't affect me.
Do you have a class this afternoon?
Leeds kickoff with Reading has been delayed half an hour… 3:15...traffic problems making it to Elland Road
Got a SS link going strong for all the games

Hiya, mate - glad to have you on board. No - I taught earlier but I was planning to watch in the office and get some side projects done. I've scrubbed that and am home now blasting the MOT.
Arsenal have nothing to lose this afternoon, so I'm happy to see that Arsene has thrown caution to the wind and has put out an attacking side that is now coming out of the tunnel:
Bayern: Neuer; Lahm, Martinez, Dante, Alaba; Schweinsteiger, Thiago; Robben, Götze, Ribéry; Mandzukic
Subs: Starke, Boateng, Rafinha, Van Buyten, Kroos, Müller, Pizarro
Arsenal: Fabianski; Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Vermaelen; Arteta, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla, Ozil, Podolski; Giroud
Subs: Viviano, Rosicky, Flamini, Jenkinson, Gnabry Hayden
Ah - you beat me to it - what do you reckon about that line-up?
Only Arteta in a holding role with The Ox, Caz, Ozil, Poldi and Giroud all bombing forward. I like it - they need to score early doors.
Championship leaders Leicester visit Barnsley
the other matches

Derby v Bolton(they're on fire… well against Leeds!)
Doncaster v Watford
Boro v Forest
Yeovil v Ipswich
Blackpool v Milwall 4pm
All these games except for the last one kicks off at 3:45
Leeds v Reading don't start until 4:15
Hey Mate
Teams on the field… can the Gunners do it?
We have these late games midweek and weekend until the last weekend of the month
And at Elland Road, I'm looking for a big bounce back from the weekend:
United: Butland, Lees, Zaliukas, Pearce, Byram, Pugh, Murphy, Mowatt, Austin, McCormack, Wickham. Subs. Cairns, Wootton, Brown, Stewart, Poleon, Hunt, Smith.
Reading: McCarthy, Gunter, Pearce, Gorkss, Akpan, Drenthe, McAnuff, McCleary, Robson-Kanu, Gutherie, Obita. Subs. Federici, Cummings, Taylor, Hector, Tshibola, Le Fondre, Blackman.
Referee: O Langford.
Arsenal get us going, hoping for a similar result to that of last season. Come on, you Gunners!
How are you following the Leeds match?
Got SS going?
Just by text from the LUFC site. No link that I can see.
Opta Joe: 10 - Arjen Robben has scored six goals and assisted another four in his last eight Champions League matches. Trickery.
STILL HATE HIM!!
MAKE HIM GO RIGHT!!!
Too much Bayern pressure for my taste - they're straight onto the front foot.
Kos with a stupid challenge… WHY??
And now Koz has given away a silly free kick.
Soccer Special is on for me to have live updates
Weak header out but Arsenal survive
Free kick goes in and isn't dealt with at all! Mert headed it straight up in the air!
Flappy gets an early test from the Pigsticker.
Shot from distance… straight at Fab
Robben well shepherded out there. That's the way to play him - don't let him cut inside!
As I said…. make him go right
GOAL
Atletico take an early lead at home to AC Milan
Costa makes it 2-0 on agg
What has happen to Italian football?
There was an article about it on the Beeb I think
Oh - the ref has a decision now with The Ox chopped down by Dante. Yellow.
Arsenal looking really shaky at the back
Yellow card for Dante.. cynical
You're right, mate. I hope that English sides aren't heading for the same result this time around. All four could out!
From the LUFC website: "Prior to kick off the game had to be delayed for 30 minutes due to severe delays on the M62 preventing players, officials and fans arriving on time."
I would Chelsea will win at home
As for United, a good night could happen but I am not very confident
Can Citeh and Arsenal do it… it depends who scores first
Yup, I posted the delay at ER because of traffic
Dante was the only starting player on both sides carrying a yellow… banned for the quarter first leg
Sorry, mate - I didn't see it. I was walking home at the time.
What is with these Arsenal defenders?? THey look so slow
Awful cross but they just let the bloke pick up the rebound!
Bristol City take the lead at Young Fergie
Cambridge hosting Luton tonight.. top of the table clash… although Luton are miles ahead.. after Cambridge were earlier in the season
Top of the table Wolves take the lead at Swindon
All the action going on at the third tier level. Not a sausage in the Championship.
Bloody hell! 20 points clear? Sounds like Scotland.
I thought the same!!
Corner chance for the Arsenal now.
Easy grab by Nuer for the corner
Caz with a mediocre corner over and Neuer gobbled it easily. Caz should work on his corners more and his hairstyling a bit less.
Robben blows a chance at the back post
Phew
Robben with a big chance there from Ribery's cross! Blew it!
Mario Balotelli lines up a free-kick 35 yards out for Milan - and crashes it straight into Diego Costa's unmentionables.
Costa is left in a writhing heap of pain, with Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg not showing much sympathy or interest. Come on Clatts, have a heart man...
Bristol City two up at Pboro.. who is in the last play off spot with a 7 point lead… not for long Darren!!
Bottom of the Football League, Torquay, winning at home to Rochdale
This apparently could be Brian McDermott's final match at Leeds. The Italian bloke who's looking to buy the club has already indicated that he's bringing in Gianluca Festa with him.
Heard that before!!!
Hilarious commentary there about Balo's free kick.
I know, I know - it's an on-going saga. He was supposed to be taking over last week but has been in court on fraud and corruption charges!!
Prem Bound Leicester take the lead at Barnsley
Love it that SS shows all the Championship goals!
Wolves two up
This games looks like Liverpool all in red, Arsenal in yellow and blue with the Gunners needing to win by two goals in 1989… we know what happened
Ball in the net… offside… lots offside
Poldi clatters his compatriot Lahm and picks up a yellow for his trouble. Actually it was the Verminator. Case of misidentification.
GOAL! No - called for offside. Phew!
Watford and Bristol City both are down to ten men
Donny have gone in front against Watford. Watford are also down to ten men after Ranegie was dismissed for "violent conduct."
And now it's Arteta into the book. Those are building up now.
Milan are still well in their match
They just have to score two and their thru… their task really hasn't changed
It reminds me of when United went to Juve after 1-1 after the first leg. Juve went 2-0 up inside the first 11 minutes. Though, after the first goal went in, the second didn't matter…. United still need two goals…. they got three!!
Arsenal can't get the bloody ball out of their own half!
Milan tie it up!!
I called it.. Kaka with the goal
I know someone who is actually at this match. The coach at the high school went to the Madrid game on Sat, tonight's game and Barca Citeh tomorrow!
Oh - great run by The Ox!! And he's won a great free kick chance now. I think he actually tripped over his own heel in the end.
Free kick chance for the Arse
Caz takes it, it's deflected off the wall and now Arse have a corner. Got to be a good one.
Santi with a free kick, into the wall and deflected wide
Corner
Decent header saved by Neuer
Better and Giroud gets his head on it but Neuer collects easily.
Ten-man Watford losing at Doncaster
Amazing soccer trip for your friend!
Blackpool have taken the lead against Evil Millwall.
Still no action at Elland Road.
Blackpool take the lead against the Lions
Are you watching the goals on the SS link
http://cricfree.tv/sky-sports-news-live-stream.php
Alaba strides forward but scuffs his shot in the end. Pep not best pleased.
I'll check it out.
After every Championship goal, they show it
They've finally gotten underway at Elland Road. Come on, you Whites!
Millwall miss a pen
Let's hope I get to see some goals from Elland Road!
Useless pass by Santi.. there was a chance
Well… for the team in white!
There were plenty of goals at the weekend but only one you would have liked!
Good run by Ox… not a good pass
Reading look the brighter
That is true - struth!
Vardy has scored for the league leaders Leicester away to Barnsley.
Nice new owner to be
Calling all the players chickens about Saturday's performance
hours ago!
You would expect them too - Reading are in the hunt for a playoff place.
Wolves already three up
I like how Ox is confident… not just giving the ball to a teammate
Good sign for England - yes.
Ozil with a weak effort to keep the ball
Ozil doesn't seem to care these days. Really poor play by him.
Bottom of the lot Torquay pegged back to 1-1
Everyone loved him at the beginning of the season!
Decent save by Fab
Ipswich take the lead at Yeovil
Atletico retake the lead
3-1 on Agg
Arsenal really under the gun now. Giving the ball away cheaply.
The half-time whistle comes. Arsenal now have 45 minutes to score two without response. Don't really see it happening.
Half time
Again, they scored two in the second half at Anfield way back when
PBoro get a goal back against ten-man Bristol C
1-2
Cambridge and Luton 0-0 at half
Luton have a 15 point lead
The Hatters are back in the league!
Pompey scoreless at home just like at the weekend
Leeds getting punished by Reading's wide men
Leeds just getting back into the game
Like the recap of the other CL match - but no video of the Balo free kick into Costa's bollocks, sadly.
What a shame!!
Luton haven't lost in 6 months!
Come on U U's!!!
Goal at Elland Road
To Reading
WHAT A HORRIBLE GOAL TO CONCEDE!!!
Did you see it?
Unbelievable defending!
From a Leeds corner… two bad passes and then the central defender leaves it for his keeper and the striker just keeps running and scores
YIKES!
Ozil is off at half time
Arsene should put two up top
McCleary scored for Reading
He scored four at ER while playing for Forest… Leeds should buy him with that scoring record at ER
BUGGGERRR! Didn't see it - glad I didn't.
Rosicky replaced Ozil
Ridiculous!
GET THE LINK ON!!!
Into the bottom half now. I don't get it - we now have Jack Butland and Connor Wickham on loan - and we look worse than we did in the fall!
Not a Leeds corner.. .sorry.. it was a Leeds throw in
Arjen Robben goes down. The East German judge gives it a 2.5. Rubbish.
Robben goes down in the box… give him a card!
The ref waves play on
The commentator called him Robbery… that would have been robbery if that was given
Why do you want me to watch our rubbish defending?
It is said that Ozil has a tight hammy
It was comical
Of course you could watch a great comeback
I have to go for a bit
I'll be back
GOAL! The Pig Sticker sticks the knife in. Bayern are surely into the quarters now.
Didn't go after all
Tie over
Schwin with the goal
Terrible defending
Santi just let him go!
Pod gets a goal back!!
Why oh why did they let a goal in
GOAL! Poldi has got one back!!!
He seemed to push Lahm over but Poldi carried on and rocketed it left-footed past Neuer from an acute angle.
1-1 (3-1 agg)
Now then - Poldi romps down the wing and puts a ball in for Giroud!
Corner.
struth.. Arsenal had another break
Is it over?
Ox with a shot… I thought it was better when it left his boot
Oh - The Ox tries a poke after the corner is cleared out. Arsenal giving it a go!
Bayern not taking any chances - Kroos to come on.
Old Trafford bound?
Who is OT bound?
Charlie N is the bloke watching the Arse… I thought they didn't do their old teams
I guess that is only for domestic games
Kroos
That would tasty for you lot - I like him a lot.
They had 90 minutes to score two tie it up
Now they have 30 to score two to win
Leicester now 0-2 up - watching for the goal on your link.
Don't really see it happening but it's a funny old game.
Orient almost matching Wolves
2-0 up away as Wolves are three up
Third place Brentford still scoreless at home to Tranmere
There's that Leicester goal - good one. Oakwell.
Goal at Oakwell
Leicester double their lead
CAMBRIDGE TAKE THE THE LEAD!
HT at ER
My link paused so I didn't see the goal
Got it back
Maybe they won't come back out for the second half? I'm finished with this season. We're just about safe - won't make the playoffs. I'm over it.
I am about finished with my lot too
Play Up Pompey
Pompey Play Up
Foxes three up
I understand you - your season is effectively over as well. Rebuilding time for both of us.
Oh - a better ball and Rosicky would have been in.
Arse had a chance there!
Rosicky wasn't ready for that pass
Neuer comes and collects easily.
Easy, easy, easy for Leicester.
Nice pace by Leicester… Hope they do well next year
Brentford have taken the lead to match Orient and Wolves
Flappy just about scrambles it away from Mandzukic.
Straight back down next year, I fear.
Bayern tried to be too fancy there.. Arsenal survive
They are far above anyone else
Forfar scores four
Shame they aren't playing East Five
There is 12,780 fans at Fratton Park… well done the Pompey public for a Tuesday night!
Now, get them a goal!
Ten-man Watford level at Doncaster
Atletico extend their lead
Come on, you Whites!
Looking at the stats… it's all Burton at FP
Giroud is down hurt.. hope he is okay
Arteta being replace by Gnabry
13 plus stoppages to score two
Only takes a second to score a goal
The German crowd sound like an English crowed
I don't like the way the Spanish crowd sounds… it is complete different
Tom says that some guy tweeted
Apparently, the whole world knows that Robben is going to cut to his left every time…except for defenders!
Reading get a second - I refuse to watch it. Rubbish.
Brighton take the lead against QPR
Oh dear.. two nil Reading
Decent free kick there
Sorry mate
Nice one via Tom.
RUDDY NORAH
THREE NIL
Bloody hell - I mistakenly saw that one!
Reading 0-3 up!
That's seven goals conceded in two matches at ER this week. Not sure that Brian can survive this. He's lost the dressing room.
SS actually showed the third goal twice!!
Isn't that EIGHT
Didn't they lose 5-1 on Saturday?
Apparently the squad has already concluded that they'll be working under new management next week, so why bother.
4-0, I thought.
Nice math professor!
Bloody hell - it was 1-5! I just checked. I must have switched off.
Forest tie it up at the Riverside
Last minute goal to make it 'respectful'
Sounds like it - Big Matt Smith in the 92nd minute. His 9th of the season. But eight in two matches - crikey!
Torquay back on top against Rochdale
Even with that goal, Basil will probably be going to non-league matches next season
We now have a -3 GD - disgraceful!
ALL AT HOME TOO!!
Not two full matches yet!
Just offside there from Arsenal
STRUTH… FOUR!!!
Terrible defending again!
Atletico score a fourth too
Gnabry skies one over
That one needed to go in
Of course, my lot of old knew how to score two goals VERY late against Bayern!
QPR two down at the AMEX
A fourth goal for Reading - why not?!
Useless by Gnabry… get the ball over!!
Penalty to Bayern! Just to rub it in.
Robben falls… this time a pen
Robben goes down easily again.
Not much… is Robben a fish
