Brasil '14 - Day 3
We're just waking up on Day 3 of the World Cup, still shaking our heads at that incredible Dutch demolition of Spain. You can see above what the Dutch papers made of it. This is the longest day of this summer's tournament, the only day with four (count them!) four full matches back to back. We'll be at Gooner Central blogging away during Match 5 - Colombia v. Greece - and then running out to the Lucky Bar in DC for the Uruguay v. Costa Rica match and then on to West Ham Rising's place in Georgetown for the big one - England v. Italy. If we still have the energy, we'll take in the Ivory Coast v. Japan match late on. Whew! Can't wait for it all to start. I hope you'll join us again on the LOB.

England seem to have engendered a tiny bit of cautious optimism in recent weeks. It's probably because, for some reason, the pressure seems to be off this year and we're all in danger of enjoying ourselves a little. It could be because England are working with pieces of genuine potential – Raheem Sterling, Ross Barkley, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Daniel Sturridge – whose limits we don't yet know. Either way, the country doesn't feel too tightly strung ahead of this one and it's rather nice.
Good news on The Ox front: he was kicking a ball for the first time since picking up a knee injury in the Ecuador friendly last week. He still won't be ready for today's match but is shooting for full fitness by the Uruguay match.
I'll be in and out most of the afternoon. It's lovely out and the yard needs work, but come six I'll be ready. You all have a good day and better evening.
Someone else who won't be fit today - Luis Suarez. Uruguay still have Edinson Cavani to turn to, but that's a big loss. He's aiming to return to meet up with his Liverpool chums on Thursday.
Morning, Ed. I'm all a-tingly about today's matches. Enjoy them all (and the lawn care).
Morning Boys
I am here decked in England garb
I usually don't wear anything England when they're playing… but they haven't won since 19666 and I guess it isn't my fault…..
COME ON ENGURLAND!!
Never heard so much singing of national anthems!
Colombia are doing the same as Brazil and Chile did… singing a second verse or more even after the music had stopped!
God Save the Queen and Star SB don't have second verses… do they?
An American referee… a math teacher from Jersey… could have been me or MUR!!!
Away we go
Just like Day 2 please
Latest news from Manaus is that Buffon is out of the tonight's clash… of course could be Italian propaganda.
Decent open match so far
Decent open match so far
GOAL!!!
COLOMBIA TAKE THE LEAD
Great celebrations
Greece let at least to Colombians open
Dummy and a finish… not well hit but deflected in
ooh, almost a immediate response
Keep attacking boys
Greece have to attack now for a goal…no sitting back
This is the city that USA beat England in 1950
Apparently, all the South American fans are rooting on other SA teams
Apparently Buffon is out
Greece with a header that goes wide
I have a BBC link going
Love being able to listen to them too
Looks like I am riding solo here so I am going to put the BBBC full screen
I'll be back
Colombia run out 3-0 winners another games that was entertaining
Still watching BBC with Shearer and Rio on the beach in Rio
Of course, England got knocked of the Euros by Italy
but that was on penalties… so England did not actually lose
So the last time England lost a competitive match was against Germany in SA…4 years!
I do like that the big names have started the tournament with some goals
Neymar, RVP and Robben all scoring a brace
Sanches gets a goal and an assist
Rooney… it's your turn
FEAR the CONCACAF!!!
Ticos up 2-1 versus Uruguay.
Ah - the end of a long day and a moveable feast on the biggest day of the tournament. Of course we're all a bit down here in Gooner Central but we had a marvelous time watching the England v. Italy game, despite the result. If I'd been a neutral, I'd have enjoyed it as a titanic struggle between two great teams. We came up short in the end but are still in this thing.
