Match 11 - Argentina v. Bosnia and Herzogovina

We've building to this moment all day long - Messi in the Maracana. This is the stage where we've all been waiting for the supposed best player in the world to prove himself on the biggest stage. His idol Maradona did it - now is little Lionel's time. In front of them, the rugged Bosnians. Should be a real treat. Join me or else, lads.

Bob, you have a mac as well. Is there a way to update the little pop-up window in our blog chat? I always end up having to comment before it updates (hence I am so chatty).

Welcome gents! We've got sausages and chicken on the grill, corn in the pot and caprese salad on the table all ready. Gooner has just mixed us a gin and tonic and summertime is easy. Loving the World Cup!

Thanks for posting the line-ups, UWS. I'm not happy at all about the conservative approach that Sabella has opted for. Why leave the talents of Gago and Higuain on the bench in favor of destroyers such as Mascherano? Surely Argentina can roll these Bosnians.

Deary me, it's Derek Rae and Roberto Martinez on the commentary. And a Salvadoran referee. ESPN and FIFA doing everything they can do to ruin this event.

Classic finish… reminds of the liverpool lad at Burnley?

6:04 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! Messi floats a dangerous ball over and a Bosnian defender Kolasinic turns into his own net. The Argies really didn't need the help.

1-0 Argentina

6:04 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Naughty by Mudjza on Aguero and Goal Mess I took the free kick and Kolasavic put into his own goal.

6:04 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I was about to note that the Argies looked a bit short, and that I did not see them being much of an aerial threat on set pieces. Now it's 1-0.

6:04 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Let's have some more goals, eh?

6:05 PM

I was thinking the same thing before the Bosnians pressed the self-destruct button. Crikey!

Another corner that went sailing past several Bosnian defenders. What are they playing at?

6:06 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

So, did you hear the ESPN lot saying that the rules says a rebound of the keeper is not an OG. They want the goal to go to Benny

6:07 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Cheers BD and MUR

6:07 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

That's a lot of own goals for the tourney so far. It's as if Chelsea were playing (especially during Mou's reign, it seemed that every second goal they scored was a deflection own goal).

6:07 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Now a chance for Bosnia to respond.

6:08 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Pijanic has a free kick headed away for a corner that is cleared.

6:08 PM

Unfortunately, this is a rubbish group. There is no need for Bosnia to even tie this game, so I am not sure that falling behind will necessarily draw them out more.

6:10 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The ESPN crew especially Casey Keller were numpties today. A definite OG by the Honduras keeper.

6:11 PM

Gooner has just gone to check the sausages, saying "don't let them score again while I'm gone" and the Bosnians promptly launch a long ball that Hajrovic nearly got onto.

6:14 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Misimovic fouled just outside the box by Masch after Mihalovic chipped the ball over the defense and the keeper did well to block from Jerko.

Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Pjanic does well to dispossess Messi there. Still no real magic from the little man.

6:17 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Is it too late to change my pick of Argentina in the final? They look very tentative for the moment, and have great difficulty advancing the ball with much purpose. Messi is dribbling way too much. The defense was very static on that dangerous chance a few minutes back.

6:17 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I wish he had the rest of the World Cup off.

I cannot believe how many crosses I have seen this tourney that manage to squeak through the crowd and hit the ground. It really shows the new mentality of the defenders who are focused foremost on obstructing their opponents. Often this leads to noone being responsible for actually heading the damn thing out.

I agree, UWS. There was some criticism of Hodgson playing Roon "out of position," but I think that was just Roon being Roon.

6:52 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Well he was playing out on left wing!
I think Rooney doesn't belong as the top man because he goes back too much
I think Sterling should be out wide and Rooney play behind Sturridge
