Welcome Back, Premiership!
I feel like Gabe Kaplan walking back into a classroom full of Sweathogs this morning as I take up my usual position in the captain's chair in The Cottage. We're back after an extra long international break. And it's with a bang, with Leeds kicking off at Birmingham City at 7:15am followed shortly by a biggie - Arsenal v. Citeh. Join me for another action-packed weekend of fun here on the LOB!

Wahay! The BEin coverage is starting up now. Not a lot of pre-match build-up for the Championship, but it's no matter. It's the third time I've seen the boys live this season.
It's 18th v. 20th in this one with both big clubs having slow starts. Here's the team news:
Brum - Randolph, Eardley, Edgar, Hall, Grounds, Cotterill, Caddis, Davis, Shea, Donaldson, Thomas.
Subs - Robinson, Duffy, Gleeson, Doyle, Shinnie, Spector, Gray.
Leeds - Silvestri, Berardi, Bellusci, Pearce, Warnock, Cook, Bianchi, Mowatt, Sloth, Sharp, Antenucci.
Subs - Adryan, Austin, Taylor, Wootton, Tonge, Doukare, Cooper.
Good morning Bob. I'm up bright and early here to support you in the early match
I barely recognize the new, new Leeds side under the leadership of caretaker boss Neil Redfearn this afternoon. Five Italians in the side along with some new boy named Casper Sloth up front. Goodness knows how we'll do today.
Leeds gets us underway, then. Come on, you Pale Yellows!
They're off from St. Andrews!
why pale yellow. White clashes with blue?
A win today would vault us temporarily up to 7th. Wow!
I read your comment about the lineups. I guess the pale yellows can always use a sloth on the pitch.
Marching on together....
Leeds fans in excellent voice despite the noon-time kickoff.
This is definitely a winable match
Morning, MUR - thanks for getting up early with me. It's a pleasure to have your company this morning.
Should be a winnable one; the Blue-noses have a poor record at home.
The Brum fans are really quiet with a fair number of empty seats.
Shout out for two of our Academy prospects in the side today - Lewis Cook and Alex Mowatt.
It's great to join you. I've been looking forward to this match. I'd say that I was getting up with the roosters, but they're taking cover ,trying to stay dry this morning..
It's true - St. Andrews is a Premiership level stadium built to house 30K or more and I'll doubt that there are more than 10K in the ground today.
Some interesting players in the Brum line-up, too, including Brek Shea who has washed up here after some brief spells in the Premiership with Stoke.
And I do believe that that must be our old Academy boy Paul Robinson who was once England's #1 goalkeeper on the bench today. How the mighty have fallen!
That's a big change for Leeds , who used to start about five players from the academy. Now it's more like the Italian job with a sloth to help the cause.
A lively start without too many chances.
The commentator has pronounced Sloth "Slot" for some reason. I've got to do some Googling of that bloke.
Paul Robinson is near the end of his career , so that doesn't surprise me. Brum's danger man will probably be debut boy, Clayton Donaldson, who was Brentford's top scorer last season.
Brek Shea tries one from distance. Stings the hands of Silvestri who holds well.
Brek Shea stings the paof Silvestri with a long range effort.lms
Sunny in England and rainy in Harlingen. How often can I say that?
Good morning to both of you . I'm sitting in my shop just about ready to close for the day . I'll try to join in when I get home in a while . Looking forward to the games .
Interesting. Sloth is apparently a 22-year old Danish midfielder who we appear to have picked up this summer from the Danish outfit Aarhus. He's made eight appearances for the national side for what it's worth.
Afternoon, Chelskilad! Great to have you on board. I hope you'll stay with us this afternoon. Some good matches on board today.
I wonder if Neil Redfearn will get the job on a permanent basis if Leeds show improvement, or is there such a thing under the new owner.
Good afternoon, Chelskilad. I second that. It will be great to have you on board.
We've had a cold turn into Fall this weekend. Low 50s last night and I had to pull the Amish heater out.
Well, Neil has been caretaker on several occasions. I don't know why he hasn't been given a chance on a permanent basis.
If he's an international then he should be one of your best players. That might be a decent signing.
American international and teammate Benny Feilhaber proclaimed Casper Sloth "the greatest current talent in Danish football" back in 2008. Wow!
WOW! An early start to fall or is this about a normal time. We're getting some much needed rain. , but can you send us some of that cooler air?
Quite a nice sunny day here . Where is my little brother ?
Sound s like Leeds may have uncovered a talent that may help them move up the table.
Nearly an OG as a horrible back header from Bellusci is out for a corner, inches wide of the post.
Oh - nearly an o.g. there as Bellusci gets the defensive header all wrong and it nearly loops up over Silvestri.
I don't really like that punch out from Silvestri either. And he's picked up a knock. Ran into Berardi's mouth.
That was heart in mouth time for Bob.
PHEW!
I don't think that's what is meant by the Italian job!
UWS must be having a lie in. Or he won't deign to watch the Championship...until next season when United will be lining up there.
Zing!
Definitely not; I don't really fancy Silvestri's choice of hairstyle either. What on earth is he thinking with that one?
I agree about Redfearn, but is there such a thing as a permanent basis with this new owner. I heard he fires people quicker than George Steinbrenner or Donald Trump.
Not a lot of quality on show today. I won't blame you for switching over to Arsenal v. Citeh, which starts up in ten minutes.
I noticed that. Silvestri is copying the old David James look.
That is true - Massimo doesn't suffer fools.
I have it on PIP so I will have both matches on at the same time.
Bob , that was a stinging reply ! But you could be right .
Maybe he was on vacation in the Caribbean during the international break? He certainly wasn't in the Azurri set-up.
I'm not sure about UWS. Perhaps he's waiting for the Prem match. He doesn't get BEIN. At least he didn't have to get up as early as Yours Truly on a dreary morning.
I agree Chelskilad. Bob is rarely wrong about those matters.
Thanks, Chelskilad - I thought I'd put the boot in early with UWS.
Will Gooner go over to watch the early Prem match with your dad?
He needs someone to give him the boot to force him out of bed.
OH! A nice break from Leeds and a horrible cross from Warnock. He's better than that.
In the words of UWS, WHERE'S THE QUALITY?
Going to have to go now . Hopefully join in later . See you guys !
Yeah - Gooner's over with Dad watching the big one.
Cheerio, Chelskilad - hope you'll join us later.
That is a good question, MUR. Not a lot on show today. That Warnock cross was an excellent opportunity but he got it all wrong.
Cheers Chelskilad. Have a great day. It was great chatting with you.
The main story in the other match is Wellie moving to the EM . everyone says he will do better at the EM. I agree to disagree. I'm glad to see the back of him.
They're off from the EM!
Just wide by the Blues danger man, Clayton Donaldson.
LVG has said that Danny Welbeck "wasn't good enough" to get into his United side, but he's in the Arsenal side today. Here's the line-up:
Arse - Sussudio, Debuchy, Mert, Koz, Monreal, Flamini, Ramsey, Alexis, Jack, Beaker, Welly.
Citeh - Hart, Zaba, Demichelis, Kompany, Clichy, Fernandinho, Lamps, Navas, LUFC Academy, Silva, Aguero.
I agree with the announcer. Seu Seu Seudio will be busier than he was playing for Poland vs Gibraltar.
That was a our first decent move but Sloth's ball was cut out.
Her definitely was a disappointment for us and I think LVG didn't have much of a choice as he needs to rebuild and make it his United team with his players. I agree with LVG on this decision.
Well over by Ramsey as the move started with a great tackle by Merte.
Antennuci had a chance there but pinged it well over. Poor.
Well over by Antenucci while Alexis Sanchez shoots straight at Hart
Not the most convincing keeping by Hart with a weird punch off the cross by Wilshere , but it leads to a Citeh attack.
The Champions League starts up on Tuesday afternoon. And Leeds play away at Bournmouth. Might have to pull a sicky.
I would think that Gooner and Dad must be pleased with the start by the Gunners as that makes their morning coffee that much more enjoyable.
BUGGER! BRUM HAVE TAKEN THE LEAD. SORRY BOB.
Bugger! Wes Thomas slots home Brum's opener. Brum sliced us open there.
1-0
It was a nice finish by Thomas in the upper 90 as he played a nice one two with Break Shea., but where was the Leeds defense?
That goal drops us to 19th.
A mandatory water break at Sty. Andrews. Surely it can't be that hot in the West Midlands. They need to move here to experience real heat!
Interesting. Cellino may be forced to sell by the FA. I'd be happy with that but who would buy us at this point?
COME ON YOU PALE YELLOWS!
OH! WELLIE NEARLY SCORED ON HIS DEBUT. He was clean through , chipped Hart , but it came off the post and straight back to a greatful Hart
Brum fans are singing "Sacked in the Morning" to Neil Redfearn. That seems unfair.
I switch over during the net repair at St. Andrews just in time to see some Alexis magic.
That long break at St. Andrews is do to some problems with the netting on the back of one of one of the goals. That's an odd one.
There should be about ten minutes of stoppage time at Sty. Andrews
That wellie chance came off an odd Citeh back pass from the center circle as Citeh seem to still be on international break.
We're back on at St. Andrews finally. Should be some significant stoppage time to come.
They finally resume at St. Andrews.
Really pedestrian stuff from us.
rum only won league matches at St. Andrews last season. Will they try to hold on to that lead?
I'm sure you would be delighted to see the back of Cellino ? I hope he leaves on the 17th of a month as that's his unlucky number
Fernandinho fouls Sanchez and Arsenal have a free kick. A poor one by Sanchez, straight to Hart,.
Lampard booked on his Citeh debut , to the delight of the Gooners. I'm sure Gooner and dad will be pleased to see that
Gooner and Dad will be none too pleased to see that horrible cross from Ramsey on such a promising break.
A rare Leeds corner.
Taken short and Antenucci is easily tackled. Bob will be frustrated to see that.
Another Leeds corner. This time taken long and headed away.
Better from Citeh as it was typical inter change passing and Milner shot over.
Halftime at St. Andrews as Brum lead 1-0.
Half-time - Well, that was fairly dismal stuff from us. I'm off to the Prem for the interval.
More dazzling stuff from Alexis but he ran into trouble eventually.
And Citeh run down the pitch and Kun Aguero knocks home Citeh's first!
1-0!
Nice solo run by Sanchez, then he's tackled . Citeh break and the next thing Citeh score on the break through Aguero.
Navas found Aguero so well there and the Arsenal back four were napping as usual.
That shows you the trouble with Arsene's set-up in one flowing move. Yes, they have some dazzling talent going forward but to no avail often. And they're woeful at the back.
Definitely a sucker punch by Citeh as they score against the run of play. Sanchez was tackled and it was a pathetic attempt at a tackle in midfield by Flamini as it broke to Navas down the right . A few seconds later he laid it on a plate for Agueroo, who easily slotted home.
Agreed Bob. They have dominated, but Citeh are far more clinical. I sympathize with Gooner and dad, who must have anticipated a goal after all that possession.
OH! great block by Seudio from Silva as Citeh start to turn the screw.
That reinforces Bob's point and I would like to add that Wellie will do naught against the top teams. Glad to see the back of him. Now he's Arsene's headache.
Navas fouls Sanchez just outside the box. That's why he's not a defender.
Disappointing from Sanchez as it's curled over.
The announce makes a valid point. For all Citeh's flair, the key has been Fernandinho breaking up play and doing the dirty work in midfield. The Gunners could use that type of player and a solid central defender like Kompany. They didn't address those needs in the transfer window.
Navas has been begging for a card - and Clattenburg gives him one now.
That's absolutely true - Flamini was a stop-gap last season but they haven't progressed in that area.
Navas clips Sanchez. He's begging for a booking.
The announcers are making the argument that Ozil has been better for Germany than for Arsenal. I disagree - I think his form has dropped right off for the national side and it was notable that he wasn't in the first eleven for their qualifier the other day.
I saw that card coming even though he wasn't celebrating a birthday or anniversary!
The second half is underway from St. Andrews.
COME ON YOU PALE YELLOWS!
I agree. Ozil may have a World Cup Winner's medal , but it wasn't thanks to him.
Brek Shea heads over from a free kick with a free header. Not a great start to the second half for the pale yellows.
I'm back with a cuppa and a bagel just in time to see Brek Shea nearly nod Brum 2-0 up. Whew!
Milner fouls Debuchy just outside the box and Wenger is getting frustrated with the constant fouling. He has a fair point.
A minute of stoppage time at the EM
Clayton Donaldson with a half chance that ends up in the side netting. Leeds seem to still be in the dressing room.
Citeh are one up at the half at the EM.
Well - this has hardly been worth waking up for so far. Come on, you Pale Yellows!
Lewis Thomas, the scorer , nearly made contact with a tasty cross from David Cotterill.
Sloth has a cross blocked for a Leeds corner.
Corner to Leeds - come on!
Swung in by Mowatt but Pearce can't do anything with it.
Pearce heads wide off the corner from Beraradi . It was always going to be difficult to score from that angle.
Oh - Sloth had acres of space there but couldn't deliver a telling ball. Not impressed.
Better from Leeds as they seem to have come away unscathed from that early Blues dominance. Another Leeds corner.
The corner from Mowatt is headed away.
I've just noticed that Alex Mowatt has a girly hairband holding back some suspiciously long locks. Redfearn needs to sort out this hair thing pronto.
I'm sorry you have to experience this performance so early in the morning . Perhaps Leeds will do better against Bournemouth on Tuesday.
It must be that Italian style coiffe. Cellino might be encouraging that nonsense.
I'd like to see our new Brazilian signing Adryan this afternoon.
Oh - Mowatt tries one but it's pushed aside by the keeper.
Great save by Darren Randolph . That was a decent chance. Corner to Leeds.
The corner from Mowatt is headed away.
First effort on target for us in the 56th minute (sigh)....
The last few minutes has been Leeds's best spell of the match
Cellino seems to be enjoying his afternoon out in Birmingham. He's the only one.
Risky back header by Paul Robinson off a long ball, under pressure from Antenucci , but he just gets away with it.
Not sure why he would.
If Adryan is such a super player then why not play him. Is he not up to full fitness?
Oh - Bianchi played in Antenucci well there but the Italian schemer got nowhere near it. Edgar held him off.
It looks like Neil Redfearn is about to make a double substitution.
There it is as Doukarra is on for the disappointing Billy Sharp and Rudy Austin is on for Sloth. I would have started Austin.
Doukara replacing Billy Sharp, who had a dismal afternoon.
Rudy Austin taking over from Sloth. I don't understand that. Rudy is a holding and we need goals!
Not impressed by Antenucci on this outing.
I agree Bob. However, Austin seems to have a strong influence on this Leeds side and perhaps should have started. Something to think about for Tuesday
Doukara winds one up but he's well wide.
NAsri coming on as a second half sub as the second half is underway. I'm not sure who came off.
Brek Shea gets a standing ovation as he's replaced by Gray.
Looks like Frankie Lamps come off for Nasri. Samir will get a hostile reception from the home crowd.
Brek was decent today - I wish him well at Brum.
I agree with both statements. A good substitution by Citeh as Lamps was clearly off the pace.
A loss today would leave us perilously close to the dropzone. However, we'll take heart from the reality that the bottom three have all received merely a point from the opening five matches.
Great save by Silvestri from Gray
Berardi hacks Thomas down unceremoniously and he's going to need treatment.
There's that hostile reception that Bob was mentioning.
Agreed bob. A disappointing start to the season by Leeds and I know you will be looking for a definite improvement.
Fifteen minutes left to dig this one out. Surely we're not going to give Brum a second home win in 20.
Paul Robinson clears for a Leeds corner.
Oh - Rudy shows off some uncharacteristically silky dribbling and nearly a chance.
GOAL! Not there is that goal we needed. Alex Mowatt!
The corner from Mowatt is cleared
and WAY HAY! MOWATT HAS TIED IT UP FOR LEEDS.
Mowatt took full advantage of a poor clearing header by Eardley. Great left-footed finish.
Come on and win it now!
The cross from Antenucci was poorly headed away by Neil Ardley and Mowatt slotted it in the corner.
You must feel better now that Leeds have tied it up. Perhaps the Pale Yellows can win it.
Marching on together....
Rudy Austin has a shot blocked for a corner
Those substitutions do seem to have made a difference. Rudy is onto a header there by Antenucci and nearly gets a shot on target.
Jonathan Spector is on for Davis as Lee Clark brings on another Yank.
Another of Brum's American brigade - Jonathan Spector - coming on now.
Doukarra glances a header wide off the corner from Mowatt.
We should have brought in Lee Clark at some point. He's a quality Championship level manager.
Another chance for Citeh as they shoot wide with just the keeper to beat. That would have sealed it for Citeh.
Oh - great cross over by Warnock and Mowatt struck the post!
We've definitely got the momentum to go on and win this one.
OH! A header from Mowatt is blocked from close range,. from a cross by Warnock. Wes Thomas booked for Brum.
A promising position for a free kick.
Into the wall by Austin and cleared away.
Morning Boys
I see I got abuse from THREE of you
ARSENAL TIE IT UP!!!!
Good news about Leeds' equalizer too
A disappointing attendance of 15,00 at St. Andrews and only that high thanks to the travelling Leeds fans.
Welbeck... wasn't involved at all!
Morning, Sleepyhead - your bruvver was asking after you earlier this morning.
Great to have you on board.
Good morning UWS. Correct we were "Arseing you."
Perfect timing by UWS as Wilshere played a nice one two with Ramsey and then finished easily from close range,.
I have bene so busy as of late
Two jobs, coaching and two boys playing college footer takes up a lot of time
Correct UWS. When you were reading the comments you may have noticed that I criticized Wellie and said good riddance to him several times. I'm sure you agree.
Big shout for a penalty here. Ref gives Gray a yellow for pretending.
Gray again...and Silvestri saves so well!
Bob must be relieved as Wes Thomas dove in an attempt to win a penalty.. Thankfully the ref was having none of it. Then a great save by Silvestri.
It sounds like a busy time of the year, UWS. Glad to have you on board , chatting with us.
Leeds up to 16th now. We need a winner, though. Come on!
Three minutes of stoppage time to come now.
I wonder if Bob would take a draw at this point, ahead of the match vs Bournemouth on Tuesday.
I was going to go to RIT today for Tom's match but there is video on the computer to watch at Noon
Kathy and I will be going to Cortland tomorrow for a match against Ithaca.
Matt had a concussion during pre-season and was only cleared to play for Thursday night... he started and played REALLY well. "Best out there" said coaches and teammates.
Sadly, there defenders didn't play at kick off.. they were THREE down after 14 minutes!
They dominated from then on. Made it 2-3 before half time with an assist by Matt. No scoring in the second half
Done talking about being a proud papa
I should be around for the action on Tuesday since I will be taking the day off to take Elizabeth in for a mammogram.
