Fall Back in Blighty
It's Fall Back in Blighty, which means a much needed extra hour of kip. The big match is United vs Chelsea at OT and a test to see how far United have come under the LVG philosophy. We start with Burnley vs Everton on NBCSN and the Spuds vs the Toon on a link. The opening acts are followed by United vs Chelsea on the local NBC affiliate at high noon.

Morning, MUR - it's great to have a chance to sleep in an extra hour without missing any of the action. I'm here to follow the Spurs v. Newcastle match and then the big one - United v. Chelski.
Good morning mate. Great to hear you are well rested and ready for the action.
Here's the team news:
Spurs - Lloris, Dier, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Rose, Capoue, Mason, Lamela, Ericksen, Chadli, Adebayor. Subs: Chiriches, LEnnon, Soldade, Vorm, Kane, Dembele, Davies.
Newcastle - Krul, Janmaat, Taylor, Colocinni, Dumett, Colback, Anita, Obertan, Sisskoko, Gouffran, Perez. Subs: Taylor, Ferreya, Haidara, Cabella, Elliot, Ameobi, Armstrong.
A moment's applause for Bill Nicholson. Classy indeed.
A nice celebration of Bill Nicholson's legacy there before the kickoff.
They're off from Turf Moor. Now from SFL
Here is the link for the match from Turf Moor. http://u-peak.me/sky1.html
Newcastle get us underway in this first half wearing an uncharacteristic blue and green number.
Sorry about the result vs high flying Wolves.
Cheers, mate - I'm going to stick with this one. Burnley and Everton are on their own.
It is an odd combo.
No probs mate.
Goal !!! eto'o already gives the toffees the lead. Baines went unmarked down the left and put in a cross for Eto'o to head home from close range unmarked.
Eto'o's first away goal in the Prem. Surprise surprise that it came at Turf Moor.
Samuel Eto'o has fired the Toffees into an early lead.
Are you suggesting that Burnley are rubbish?
Janmaat tackles for a SPuds corner.,
Not me, mate. He just has a soft spot for the Moors.
An entertaining day at St. Andrews. The home fans got to watch Eight is Enough on the big screen while eating Cherry Pie or was that humble pie?
The Newcastle kit reminds me a bit of the old Blackburn away kit with the contrasting vertical blocks on the front.
Vertonghen well over from long range
Correct . Replace the lime green with white and it's very similar.
A long cross from Ryan Mason is headed out by Steven Taylor then Vollyed wide by Eriksen.
How bad are Birmingham, eh? Now that Fulham have turned things around, teams like Birmingham, Bolton, Brighton and Wigan are in real trouble. I'm assuming that Blackpool are already virtually relegated.
And we're not out of the woods, in 18th now, and only five points off the dropzone.
Free kick to the Toon. Taken to Collocini , who heads across to lloris.
Mason tried a pop from distance. Hit the peanut salesman in the stands.
Correct about Blackpool. Bolton have two of the last three and Wigan won at top of the table Derby. It will be a tight finish for third from bottom, but Brum and Blackpool are all but relegated.
A dark day as Darko walked the plank at the damned United. He didn't last as many days as Hockaday or Cloughie. Mum's the word from Bob?
Gareth Barry clears for a Burnley corner.,
Etoo'o heads out the corner from David Jones for another
Burnley have a spell of pressure off the next corner then the Toffees counter, but it comes to nothing.
GOAL! Ade opens the scoring for Spurs.
A bit scrappy there with Newcastle desperately but ineffectively trying to clear their lines. Nice chip in by Mason and Adebayor nodded home well.
1-0!
I was on the phone when Ade headed the Spuds into the lead.
Newcastle drop back down into the relegation zone with that goal. How long with they stick with Pardew?
GOAL !!! DANNY INGS TIES IT UP FOR BURNLEY.
A poor back pass from the Chunk to former United trainee,David Jones. He played a nice through ball fro Danny In gs, who superbly rounded Timmy then slotted home. The first goal of the season for Burnley's top scorer from last season.
Now it's Danny Rose who lashes one at a man with a dog in the crowd. He didn't learn that at Thorp Arch, I can promise you.
No comments about the latest at ER?
Oh - I thought Spurs had got a penalty there. Nothing doing.
Danny Rose made the most of that challenge. webbie was correct not to call a penalty. Did he learn that behavior at ER? What would Garry Monk say?
Not at all, Danny has picked all that up at Shite Fart.
GOAL !!! THE CHUNK PUTS THE TOFFEES BACK INTO THE LEAD AND MAKES UP FOR THE EARLIER ERROR. A GREAT FINISH AFTER TWO EARLIER EFFORTS WEE BLOCKED.
The Chunk has fired Everton back into the lead at Turf Moor.
Did you hear that Darko walked the plank and Neil Redfearn will be named permanent gaffer tomorrow? Darko didn't;last as long as Hockaday or Cloughie?
George Boyd booked for a naughty challenge on Baines.
Jags tackles for a Burnley corner.
A poor punch from Timmy off the corner, but the header went well wide.,
No - I hadn't heard that, but I'm happy to hear it. Darko hadn't won a match in something like six or seven outings. We'd had a good run under Neil. I'd like to see what he can do full-time.
Mason is looking really impressive this morning. I've never noticed him before.
Well wide by Jutkiewicz as he out muscled Alcaraz . The Toffees reject received the ball off a header back from a goal kick from Timmy.
Burnley have a free kick just outside the Everton box. They're giving the Toffees a game today.
Into the wall by Davey Jones HA HAR!
I agree, Bob. Cellino apologized to Leeds fans in the Yorkshire Post for his previous two appointments. SO, Cellino has sacked four managers in less than a year and 36 in 20 years at Cagliari. WOW!
Yeah - Cellino does like to wield the axe.
His favorite song is Another One Bites the Dust.
Or - These Boots are Made for Walking
Naismith had a header come off the baR IN A MIOVE SIMILAR TO THE tOFFEE'S FIRST GOAL
BOOM BOOM, NANCY!
Steven Taylor heads out a cross from Eriksen for a corner.,
The match at Turf Moor is far more entertaining.
Eto'o down off a physical challenge.
AN unmarked Chadli blasts well over off the free kick from Eriksen .. He should have put the Spuds two up.
Two minutes of stoppage time at Turf Moor and the same at SFL.
Poor chest control from Ade off a great pass from Dier.
A decent long range effort from Scott Arfield is not far off.
That's half-time, then. I'm off to throw some laundry in.
The Spuds are one up vs the Toon at the half. The Toffees are 1-2 up at Turf Moor at the half.
The second half is underway from SFL
GOLA !!! THE TOON TIE IT UP!
The second half is underway from Turf Moor.
Cor! I'm just back from the basement in time to see Newcastle equalize within seconds of the start. Must be a Premiership record.
That must have been quite a halftime talk from Alan Pardew as the Toon tied it up SIX SECONDS after the second half kicked off. The Toon centered, passed it back and Sammy Ameobi caught the Spuds back four in the dressing room as he finished superbly past lloris off a long ball.
I would think so, Bob. That's why you must not be tardy. You never know what you will miss. So much for sacking Pardew!
You were on time?
Colback booked for a foul on Lamella.
Scvott Arfield has been booked for a clip from behind. That seemed harsh/.
Oh - Ericksson's effort is deflected and trickles agonizingly past the post.
Eriksen has a shot deflect off of Collocini for a corner.
Baines wins a corner off of Trippier.
A draw against a crisis-ridden, relegation-threatened side would not be a good result for Spurs.
The match is getting a bit ragged, which might mean that there are some goals in it.
Danny Rose wins a corner after his initial cross was blocked.
A draw would be an excellent result for the Toon after their first win last week. They're in position to move up the table.
Naismith booked for a FOUL FROM BEHIND ON tRIPPIER.
It is fitting that Krul is wearing all orange , the color of his country , while Lloris is clad in purple. What about green?
Never mind. That would clash with the Toon away kit.
Can you trip a Trippier?
GOAL! Lovely header by Ayoze!
GOAL !!! AYOZE HEADS THE TOON INTO THE LEAD!!!
Great cross over from Cabella and a top notch header by the kid. Wonderful goal for Newcastle and they might be on course for their first away win of the season. Gooner must be enjoying this.
His first Prem goal. It's gone all wrong for the Spuds as Eriksen conceded possession in midfield to Sammy Ameobi he found Cissoko , who went a long run down the left. He found Cabella whose cross was headed in by Ayouze.
It's 1-2 in both matches and Bob must be wondering how Danny Rose left the kid with a free header if he had been tutored at ER!
Even SAF would have been proud of the Toon's second half response. Two wins on the trot for the Toon?
Stephen Ward booked for a late challenge.
The free kick from Baines goes through a sea of players and out , to the relief of tom Heaton, the former United trainee.
Ross Barkley on for the Chunk. Bob may remember him.
Ashley Barnes, the Austrian international, on for Jutkiewicz.
Will Desmond pop up at a Prem match today?
Harry Kane on for Etienne Capoue. Kane had a hat-trick in the EL match on Thursday and conceded a goal in his brief time as goalkeeper at the end of the match
Harry Kane shoots straight at krul
Ayoze down after a hard challenge by Eric Dier.
Eriksen has a shot deflect wide for a corner.
Lamella heads wide off a poor corner.
Roberto Martinez will be happy that his Toffees have completed 517 passes. Well above the minimum of 400 that he requires.
Ross Barkley down off a clumsy challenge from Ashley Barnes as the Austrian international is booked.
Tottenham in the bottom half now - Gooner will be chuckling.
And Sunderland will be delighted that they've dumped their Weirside cousins into the relegation zone. Good day for the Toon!
Aaron Lennon on for Lamella. Will he help the Spuds sing to the Toon of a famous Beetles song?
Ayoze hobbles off and is replaced by Jose Perez, the Spanish U-21 international.
I think the Newcastle fans will sing a different about sacking Pardew.
Steven Pienaar on for Leon Osman.
Now what the Spuds need as Soldado is on for Ade.
Soldado has been a total flop at Shite Fart.
Will Desmond make a late appearance . He is pondering a decision while watching a rerun of Eight is Enough at St. Andrews. He is taking bloody forever to finish his cherry pie.
Marvin Sordell is on for Michael Kightly.
GOAL !!!! 1-3 TOFFEEES AS ETO'O SCORES WITH A SUPERB FINISH. A CURLER IN THE CORNER FROM ABOUT 25 YARDS OUT AS HE MADE A MUG OUT OF JASON SHACKELL.
Desperate defending now from the Toon. This would be a terrific away win for them.
Nat Chalobah on for George Boyd.
Danny Ings blasts over with just Timmy to beat
what a Toon , Alan Pardew sung during his halftime talk. Aaron Lennon and the Beetles have hit a sour note.
That must have been quite a half-time dressing room sing-a-long that Pardew led.
Harry Kane shoots across the box off pass from Soldado.
Oh - straight across the area and no one to poke it home. Shite Fart is starting to get restless.
Just wide by Naismith as he wins a corner.
Danny Rose booked as they enter stoppage time. Five minutes at SFL. Four minutes at Turf Moor.
A completely miss hit volley by Soldado.
Eto'o named MOTM as he has a brace. Nearly a hat-trick as he rounded Tom Heaton and his shot came off the inside of the post and rolled across the line.
The Spuds losing depsite being at two on the LUFC Academy factor.
Good day out at Turf Moor for the Toffees. They're up to 9th with Spurs slipping into the bottom half.
Poor from Kabboul when all he had to do is lump it into the box.
It's over at Turf Moor as the Toffees win 1-3.
The Toon record a much needed 1-2 win at SFL.
I'm off , but will be back for the late on on NBC.
Cheerio, mate - see you in a tick. The preliminaries are over. Now it's time for the big 'un.
Here's the team news:
Manchester United: De Gea; Rafael, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw; Blind, Fellaini; Mata, Januzaj, Di Maria; Van Persie. Subs: Lindegaard, Herrera, Blackett, Wilson, Carrick, Andreas Pereira, Fletcher.
Chelsea: Courtois; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Filipe Luis; Fabregas, Matic; Willian, Oscar, Hazard; Drogba. Subs: Cech, Zouma, Ake, Mikel, Baker, Salah, Schurrle.
Referee: Phil Dowd.
Can United peg back Chelski's title hopes and make the Premiership more exciting? We're about to see.
United really quick out of the traps, trying to punk Chelski.
Back for United vs Chelsea. Did I miss much?
A win against Chelsea would be massive. The Saints would be delighted.
It seems as if LVG has rung in the changes and I guess to decent effect.
High and orribly wide by Di Mary off a poor Chelsea clearance.
A rare start for Drogs. He's past it , so those good news as far as I'm concerned.
Not a lot, mate. Not a lot. Furious pace but no real chances as of yet.
Yeah - Costa not yet ready for his return.
Celtic have defeated Killie 2-0 and move up to fourth . They were helped as table topping Hamilton lost 2-0 at fellow promoted side, Dundee.
Rafa picks up a needless yellow card for a hack on Hazard.
Free kick out wide left for Chelski.
Raffa booked for stupidly holding a Hazard and a real hazard for United.
The Edinburgh derby has finished 1-1 as table topping Hearts were held at Hibs. The first version of this derby outside the top flight?
Rafa's in the wars again. This time with his compatriot Oscar.
Chelsea get a corner that Drogs heads well over. It should not have been a corner as the initial cross last came off of Ivanovic
Definitely a scrappy start. Probably Chelsea's toughest match of the season. United could not have said that last season.
Matic fouled Di Maria . why wasn't he booked?
Not a great match so far - can di Maria do something?
Di Maria took it short and has to take it again because Phil Dowd wasn't ready. Take two and Smalling heads wide/.
At least that means Chelsea aren't having their own way. The only other time this season was on their other trip to Manchester.
Jose worked under LVG at Barca , sot they are all too familiar with each other.
De Gea catches a corner from Compatriot , Cesc , then Drogs is booked.
Oh - RVP was slipped in one-on-one but Courtois stood up well to him. End to end now.
OH!!!! Courtoiis rushes out to save at the feet of RVP off a nice pass from Luke Shaw. The first real chance of the match
RVP then heads straight to Courtois off pass from Di Maria then Raffa heads out a cross from Drogs for a Chelsea corner.
A poor corner from Oscar is cleared by RVP at the near post.
Courtois punches away from Di Maria . Now chelsea on the attack. United clear a pass from Willian.
UNited fans applaud a great tackle by Shaw on Willian after he was initially beaten . Great atmosphere at OT!
An Unusually poor long ball from Cesc.
DI maria and Matic down from a full blooded collision. It looked fair.
This feels like a score draw to me - what do you think?
Back from a brief trip to the loo and the match has resumed.
It's too early to tell. I think this match could go either way.
You were hoping for the Nocito strategy to work - go to the loo and miss a goal, right?
will you be around for the Capital One Cup action on Tuesday and Wednesday. Kickoff would be at 3:45 PM your time.
Fortunately, I didn't miss much. I tried to be quick
The free kick from Cesc eludes everyone and goes harmlessly out. Ivanovic screaming for a penalty when he got tangled up with Smalling. Really?
I should be, mate - it's an easier than usual schedule for me.
Matic fouls Raffa just outside the box.
Di Maria curls the free kick straight to Courtois.
I'm more likely to be around Tuesday than Wednesday, but may catch the last part on wednesday.
Matic fouls RVP and how many of those types of challenges will he get away with before being booked?
If United can match Chelsea the entire 90 minutes then that will show that they are heading in the right direction.
Nice dig by Graeme Le Saux about Gary Lineker goal hanging.
Twilight pulls off a brilliant save with his legs from Drogs.
PHEW!!!! For once a poor defensive header, this time from Rojo. It made its way to Oscar and his pass went to Drogs , whose close range effort was superbly saved by De Gea.
I thought it was clever from Lee.
A decent effort from Jan , but it was a really narrow angle.
Both sides attacking with pace; Jan fires one just wide of the near post. I agree with Graeme - he should have gone far post.
Lee Dixon is a Clever Lee?
Talk about big Sunday matches for United. It's the Manc Derby in the early match next Sunday at the Etihad!
Jan flops looking for a pen. Outside the area, for Phil Dowd.
Oh yeah - it's Lee not Graeme - right you are, mate.
Ivanovic fouls Jan outside the box and is about to talk himself into the book. Drogs should diffuse matters instead of encouraging Ivanovic.
Nice free kick routine but Mata got it all wrong with the shot. Man with dog territory.
How was that not a penalty. It was a rugby tackle by Ivanovic in the box off the free kick. Two minutes of stoppage time.
The replay shows that Rojo did the same number on John Terry earlier. I wish the ref would call all of them.
Half-time - 0-0.
It's 0-0 at the half of a typically even match in this fixture with all the usual drama.
Jose out of the tunnel and not looking like the Happy One.
Now he does as he shares a laugh with the fourth official.
The second half is underway.
Unlike the match at SFL, there was not an early second half goal.
Will Bob miss an early second half goal in this match?
Nope - not this time. Back from doing some dishes. The sun's perking up for my afternoon yard work. How's the weather at your end?
Cesc picks up a free kick for a misstimed tackle back.
United have failed to score in their last two league matches vs Chelsea at OT. They drew 0-0 early last season in Moyes's first match in charge at OT and two years ago Chelsea won 0-1 with a late winner. Raffa sent off late in that one? I hope for neither today.
