A Not So Early Start to Sunday's Action
After yesterday's early start and a late night out, I opted for a lie-in with the missus rather than Spurs v. West Ham. So, I'm just getting into position at The Cottage for Everton v. Leicester followed by the late one and the marquee match up of the day Southampton v. Liverpool. Join me for some Sunday brunch action, won't you?

The teams:
Toffees - Timmy, Coleman, Stones, Jags, Baines, Besic, McCarthy, Lennon, Barkley, Naismith, Chunk.
Foxes - Schwarzer, Simpson, Morgan, Huth, Upson, Konchesky, Mahrez, James, Cambiasso, Schlupp, Kramaric.
You lot will be delighted to see that Spurs dropped two points at home to West Ham in the early one. It was actually 0-1 West Ham at the hour mark so that draw was a comeback for the home side.
A quarter of the match gone and Leicester will delighted that they've thwarted Everton so far.
Barkley is lingering over a free kick....and then fires it well over. Roberto not happy.
Wes Morgan picks up the match's first yellow - not the referee just gave him a talking to.
Oh - the Chunk misses an absolute sitter. Coleman got to the by-line and pulled back a juicy one for the striker. He got underneath it and lifted it well over.
Oh - Kramaric jinked inside Jags and curled one just over the bar. Close!
Hey Bob
Not here for long
Off for walkies and then Matt school
I did watch the earlier match
West Ham were winning 2-0 up with 10 minutes to go
Scored in the 80th minute and then got a last minute of the 5th added
Kane won the pen, stepped up and had it saved but netted the rebound
Morning, UWS - how are you, mate?
Terrible typing there by me
A pen in the last of 5 added minutes
Not looking forward to tanking the dog for a walk
Not looking forward to going back to school tomorrow
Did you see how bad England lost to NZ in the Cricket World Cup last week?
They got crushed by the Aussies and then scored 123 all out in 33 overs.. NZ polished them off in the twelfth over!
They play Scotland today
I can't believe that the Scots even have a cricket team!
So do the Irish... England captain is Irish... makes no sense to me
THe cricket is on the homepage of ESPN.. how the world has changed
LVG has come out with a statement this morning that he was "shocked" by the loss to Swansea yesterday. Your thoughts?
I am fed up with him
United are pathetic!!!
He is just a big head and thinks he knows all things!
Know that United are team that attacks and scores goals..... 'forgot to score" what a numpty... not good enough to score
He actually thinks we've been the best in the league... we have lucked out with many results
When you are United, results are the be all and end all... United entertain
Half time at Goodison..it should be called Badison after this half
Off for walkies
You're right about that, mate - real rubbish in this one. Hoping for better in the late one.
A draw here doesn't really help either side - Leicester are about dead and buried anyway and Everton are a mere six points off the drop zone.
We're back on at Goodison (or Badison) for the second half. It must get better.
Oh - how did that one not go in from James or Schlupp! Timmy did well but Schlupp must score there.
Good morning gents. I had a late lie in too. I watched the last twenty minutes of the early match and have watched this match
He should have given the Foxes the lead. Initially, a great save by Timmy, but Schlupp should be putting those away
Mayherez volleys over a corner from Matty James. A Foxy second half start for the visitors.
Morning, MUR - you have missed nought so far in this one. The early one had a busy last half hour with three goals flying in including a late equalizer from Harry Kane.
How's your weekend been so far?
It's been really busy so far. Melanie made state in solo and ensemble yesterday and we were all over the place. How about you?
Ex-Red Devil Darren Gibson replacing Barkley now. And Besic is coming off as well - Atsu on for him.
I enjoyed seeing that picture of Melanie on FB.
Darren Gibson is on for Barkley and Atsu is on for Besic. Something had to be done.
Cheers mate. She goes to Austin in May. Next , she might play the violin in a local production of Fiddler on the Roof. She practices later this afternoon.
GOAL! Naismith opens the scoring...finally!
The Chunk fed the Scot who jinked inside and scuffed a shot that dribbled slowly but surely inside the near post.
1-0 Toffees!
GOAL !!!!NAISMITH BEATS SCHWARZER AT THE NEAR POST OFF PASS FROM THE CHUNK.
That will move Everton on to eight points and surely safe on 30 points.
i LOOKED AT THE REPLAY AND IT'S HARD TO BLAME sCHWARZER , WHO WAS FOOLED BY THE DEFLECTION.
Leicester are dead and well and truly buried on 17 points. Welcome back to the Championship, Foxes!
They should be and the Foxes are up against it. They would be five points from safety.
You and Elizabeth must be very proud of her.
The Nuge and Varney coming on. They were key to the Foxes promotion last season - not sure why the likes of Kramaric and Ulloa have been favored to them this season.
I don't know about that. They are only five points behind. It's a tough ask, but too early too condemn them, IMHO!
Yes we are . Cheers, mate.
Nuge is on for Mayherez and Jamie Vardy is on for Schlupp.
Leicester have half an hour to pull something out now.
Ulloa was scoring goals for fun at the beginning of the season while Kramaric was only signed last month and has done well since joining.
GOAL! Nugent has equalized!!!
GOAL !!! DAVID NUGENT TIES IT UP FOR THE FOXES.
This is what these two did so well last season. Vardy whipped a cross in. Timmy fumbled it and Nugent tapped home. Not sure why those two were on the bench.
1-1!
I still think Leicester are gone. There will be an almighty scrap two avoid the other two relegation slots. Everyone from Everton down (Palace, WBA, Hull, Sunderland, QPR, Burnley and Villa) have to be worried.
Captain Morgan won a tackle off of ATsu and the ball broke down the right to Vardy. he passed across the box and a misunderstanding between Timmy and Barkley resulted in the ball breaking to Nugent for a tap in from a foot out.
Oh - The Chunk should have fired Everton back into the lead there. What a miss!
The Chunk has a shot skim off the top of the bar.
You called it. The two subs combined for that goal while Atsu, the Toffees sub, lost the ball in midfield.
The Foxes with a draw would be only four points from safety. They would still be in the fight.
I have watched this match from the start. It's been a decent match. There have been chances both halves. The main difference is that the chances have been put away this half.
There's goals in this one, still.
GOAL! Cambiasso fires home another! They've turned it around!
GOAL!!! CAMBIASSO GIVES THE FOXES THE LEAD . TIMMY HAS BEEN AT FAULT FOR BOTH GOALS.
Timmy's at fault again there flapping at the cross. Vardy again with the cross and Cambiasso fired home.
Oh dear - boos from the crowd as the Chunk misses another good chance. He scored a hat-trick in mid-week against Young Boys but now he looks incapable of hitting the target.
This would be a lifeline for Leicester and Nigel Pearson. They're still going down though IMHO.
Timmy has basically gift wrapped the Foxes the lead. Danny Simpson took a throw and received the ball back. His speculative cross was completely missed by Timmy and Vardy passed it back for Cambiasso to tap in from close range.
Goodison Park not happy with what they're seeing.
Naismith heads out a free kick for a foxes corner.
I have an answer for that. The Chunk is playing against grown men today. it will be much more difficult to score than against a team of young boys.
The Irish connection as Gibson plays in Coleman, who has a shot blocked for a corner.
LOL! Boom boom!
A complete waste as Schwarzer greatfully gathers a corner from Baines.
Cheers mate. The Foxes are definitely in the fight if they could hang on and win. They would be only two points from safety.
Shocking cross shot from Atsu there. Certainly the Leicester subs have had more impact.
Just over ten minutes for Everton to dig this one out.
Hard to believe that Big Nigel has out coached Roberto, especially with the substitutions.
I saw what UWS said about the loss and LVG yesterday. I'm feeling the same. I said all along that Pochettino would be a much better fit at OT than LVG. We should have snapped him up last summer.
There is no way that this Everton side should be losing to Leicester.
Coleman wins a corner after Atsu took an eternity to shoot and couldn't get a shot off. Another wasted corner from Baines.
But LVG's United are higher in the table than Pochettino's Spurs?
I agree. Roberto may be gone by the summer. He's another LVG.
He got Everton to 5th last season - I think that buys him some good will as long as Everton stay up - which they will.
Pochettino doesn't have the players that LVG did and has improved that team and changed the mentality. He would have us playing the United way.
Unless they have a losing run the remainder of the season. I think it's 50-50 right now with the remainder of the season deciding his fate.
Stones with a superb tackle there on James.
The final roll of the dice from Roberto as Mirallis is on for Naismith. It's been snake eyes for Big Nigel.
I'm not sure - I think Spurs still have a lot of deadwood and are only doing as well as they are because of Lloris, Ericksen and Kane. Without those three, they're probably more like mid-table.
Oh - just wide there - only needed a touch from Chunk.
Stevie Cambiasso trudging off now - he must be knackered.
OH!!! Just wide by the Chunk as he diverted a shot from fellow Belgian , Mirallis, who received a pass from Baines . Better from the Toffees.
Andy King on in his place, but not related to the former Toffee. Just an interesting coincidence.
GOAL! Lukaku - finally!
I am back from walkies and driveway
Lukaku just invited Desmond in
Atsu finally comes good with a low cross to the near post and Chunk got in front of Upson to nod home.
2-2!
The Reverend is having a wee dance at Goodison.
Oh dear - Kramaric got that all wrong as he was fed by Nuge.
On the replay, it looks as if it's an own goal from Upson as Chunk's header was probably just a glancing one going wide.
McCarthy found Atsu down the left , who for once did something right . He put in a great cross. Initially , the goal was given to the Chunk , but it may go down as a Matty Upson OG. Either way, it's Desmond.
Schwarzer turns arounda near post effort from Atsu.
Has this half been much better?
The Chunk had a header from a corner blocked by a combination of Jags and Matty Upson.
Looks it from here
Yes. It's been quite an exciting half.
Time for one more chance maybe.
So far, both Sunday matches look set to be comebacks that have ended Desmond.
And one more corner now for Leicester. This has to be it.
Nugent wins a corner off of Baines.,
Leicester pushing for a winner
Back to back to back corners
Huth heads up the corner from James and Jags clears for another. Timmy makes a mess of the corner, but gets away with it as it finishes Desmond./
Weak punch by Howard again
Final whistle end 2-2
I was listening to Five Live while doing the driveway.
They said Timmy was sort of at fault for the goals
Two is the number so far this morning
It is 2/22
Two matches
2-2
2-2
It's the story of Two Desmonds this morning. Next up - Southampton v. Liverpool.
Sturridge only on the bench today
Can't decide what result I want today
A Sotton win would have them go ahead of Crapchester United but a Liverpool win would get them very close
I guess I'll go for a TWO TWO draw
The team news out of St. Mary's:
Saints - Forster, Clyne, Fonte, Yoshida, Targett, Ward-Prowse, Wanyama, Davis, Djuricic, Pelle, Elia.
Reds - Mignolet, Can, Skrtel, Lovren, Ibe, Henderson, Allen, Markovic, Lallana, Coutinho, Sterling.
Been so fed up with Crap United this season that I have had to go to youtube to watch when United played attacking footer!
Watched some stuff on Scholes... he was so good!!
Goals and passes!
A lot of quotes from other players... the best was from Zidane when he was asked what is it like to be the best midfielder in the world.. his answer... Ask Paul Scholes!
Wish he continued playing for England. Lamps and Gerrard were the ones that should have been moved to the left
Southampton XI: Forster; Clyne, Fonte, Yoshida, Targett; Wanyama, Davis, Ward-Prowse; Djuricic, Pelle, Elia.
Liverpool XI: Mignolet; Can, Skrtel, Lovren; Ibe, Henderson, Allen, Markovic; Lallana, Coutinho, Sterling,
Looks like it's raining all over Britain today. I wish we could have some of that - a nice warm rain to wash away all of this bloody snow.
Arco White and Graeme Le Saux on the mics today.
I second that emotion
Teams coming out of the tunnel
I'm back for the late one. Everything sure has been in twos with late comebacks as well. When I woke up The Spuds were two down with fifteen minutes remaining . They came back to make it Desmond , including a last second equalizer.
Spurs didn't score their first goal until the 80th minute
Away we go
I think a draw would be a great result for United . Will Desmond be flying put to the South Coast from Merseyside. They're off.
Sotton ask for the pen that was going to be even quicker than at the Eithad
Was it???
Wow - we've only just kicked off and nearly an early penalty. Kevin Friend waves on.
If he called it then it would have been a red too
THe ref made it easy for himself
No pen... stay on your feet and score you numpty
I think it was a penalty - you lot?
Djuricic was off to the races seconds into his debut . Should a penalty have been given? I think he went down too easily . The correct decision from Kevin Friend./
You would have stayed up in that situation, wouldn't you UWS?
The way these guys talk these days.. there was contact!
He was hardly touched
Just stay up and score
What a corker by Coutinho
I know it's controversial but I'll say it again - I just don't think Soton are that good.
GOAL! Oh what a strike!
GOAL !!! COUTINHO GIVES POOL AN EARLY LEAD.
Markovic fed Coutinho and vooom! A corker from 30 yards or so.
I don't want Liverpool to go on a roll
Sotton with a huge chance!!!
That was more of a pen than the first!!
Oh - another penalty shout. Might have been another penalty. I think so. And then shot wide. Wow! What a start!
A goal out of the top drawer with a long range effort in the upper 90 off apass from Markovic. Nat Clyne had a shot blocked for a corner as Pelle headed on a pass to Djuricic who looked to be fouled in the box by Joe Allen.
Soton fans chanting "You don't know what you're doing?" to Kevin Friend who has been no friend of the Saints so far.
ANother chance with the ball in the box
WIDE OPEN
A scramble in the box off the corner as a blocked shot was easily gathered by Mignolety.
TWO pen calls
I wonder if Lallana and Lovren regret leaving Soton - they've been better than Pool!
I think Djuricic had a shout for a penalty from the challenger by Joe Allen, but the e first one was definitely not a penalty
Thhat is true, Bob. It looked a good move for Lallana , Loveren, and Lambert at the time.
If Saints fans think Kevin Friend doesn't know what he's doing then they should see what Chelsea fans had to endure with Martin Atkinson yesterday. He really didn't know what he was doing.
Oh - Saints burst through again - they've had a good start despite being behind.
The goal was scored two minutes and thirty three seconds into the match.
Poor by Markovic on Nat Clyne and lucky not to be booked.
The free kick by James Ward-Prowse eluded everyone due to great Liverpool marking.
The cross from Targett was on target as it skimmed off of Djuricic's head then the next cross skimmed off of Pelle's head.
Lallana clears for a Pool corner.
The corner from James ward- Prowse is caught by Mignolet.
Lallana getting roundly booed by the St. Mary's faithful. Predictable.
Sorry to hear about Elizabeth's aunt Mary passing, MUR. Give her my best.
Sorry from here too
This match has lost the urgency of its first five minutes but I suppose they couldn't keep up that furious pace.
it's bucketing down in Southampton
Doesn't help the quality of the football.
A big derisive cheer for Kevin Friend after he blows for a free kick.
Thanks Bob and Dave. It's been a difficult day for Elizabeth and her mother. Thanks for the supoprt.
I agree. It was an exciting start to a match that has fizzled away. I believe that the conditions may have something to do with it.
I am off boys
Sorry I can't stay the whole game
TTFN
At this rate , Pool will be playing in a pool. Is that why they're ahead?
Cheers UWS. enjoy the rest of the day
Cheerio, UWS!
I think Kevin Friend has had a decent match. Saints should be thankful that Martin Atkinson is not officiating
Another penalty? This time for Liverpool. Kevin Friend seems allergic to calling pens today.
This time Pool have a shout for a penalty off a tackle from Jose Fonte.
Did he catch a friendly illness from Martin Atkinson?
That is definitely a penalty . A foul by Fonte on Sterling.
Free kick to the Saints.
Head tennis off the free kick from James Ward- Prowse then the Saints are called for a foul.
A Liverpool win might be a decent result for you lot, no?
Jordan Ibe is fouled by Matt Targett just outside the box.I'm sure they have faced each other in reserve and academy matches. A wasted free kick from Jordan Henderson.
The Saints fans loved that - Lovren into the book for a rash challenge.
Saints are pleased that Loveren is booked on his return to St. Mary's as he fouls Ward- Prowse.
How did Kevin Friend miss that? Intentional hand ball outside the box by Minnie and he should have been sent off.
I think a Pool win is about the same as a draw as Pool would be only two points behind us.
A late Saints corner as we are in stoppage time. Minnie punches away the corner then Pool scramble to clear . Boos as Pool are one up at the half. Most reserved for Kevin Friend.
The Saints get us underway again in the second half.
Fat Ronnie makes a substitution as Morgan Schneiderlin is on for Steven Davis and they're off.
Brendan with a substitution too as Alberto Moreno is on but for whom, I'm not sure.
Lallana and Lovren getting the "Go Home You Bums" routine from the crowd now. Yes, but they go home with three points.
The Saints now have two defensive middies in Wanyama and Schneiderlin. Don't know how that's going to get them back into this one, Toad.
The Saints win a corner.
I think that Schneiderlin for Davids is like for like. They could use some attacking options.
Belle with a really disappointing effort. He looks in really under confident form right now.
You might be interested to note that Leeds have a match down the road at the Seagulls on Tuesday. Your thoughts?
I saw that. I'd take a point, of course. One more point toward safety.
LOL!! Pelle definitely playing like a Belle. Perhaps he should play for the Saints Belles.
I'm sure you will be hoping for better weather on what should be a slick surface for LUFC.
It's going to be an Evil Championship Tuesday as the Lions host Not a Big Club and Wigan hosts Cardiff.
Saints need something now - what, I'm not quite sure.
The pass from, Yoshida intended for Targett was way off the mark.
Mane for James ward- Prowse is more of what the Saints need. Is that correct?
It was 0-0 at this stage of the match at Goodison, so the final result ins anyone's guess.
Mane has a shot blocked by Skrtel for a corner.
The hour mark now - The Toad needs to make some changes soon.
Skrtel heads away the corner.
He just brought on Mane for James Ward- Prowse, an attacking switch . He only has one substitution remaining.
Boos for Lallana as he is replaced by Danny Sturridge . He's being called a wanker.
Wanayama with a requisite booking as he fouls Sterling and needs to be careful as he's about to talk his way into an early bath,
