Sunday FA Cup Fifth Round Action
It's A Sunday triple header starting with A Midlands Derby between two teams in the drop zone as Villa host the Foxes in Tim Sherwood's first match in charge of Villa. This is followed by giant killers Bradford City vs Fred's Black Cats and concludes with Gooner's Gunner's vs another giant killer in Middlesbrough.

They just kicked off. When these two met last month, the Foxes won 1-0 in highly ill tempered match. More of the same?
Villa with all the early pressure as the Foxes cannot clear. Villa playing with a lot more pace and more direct
As I type , the Foxes win a corner that's a poor one from MAyherez that's easily cleared and Villa win back possession
Wei mann has a shot land in Row M off a pass from Hutton as the Foxes cheaply gave away possession.
Kieran Clark clears away a cross from Konchesky for a corner.
oH!!! The Foxes nearly take lead against the run of play as Wasilewski has a header skim off the post and go out for a goal kick. A warning for Villa that pressure isn't enough. You have to score.
I agree with the announcer that it's really poor that over half the seats are empty at Villa Park. UWS would agree.
Tim Sherwood was named Villa manager, but Villa should be well marshalled as Scott Marshall and Andy Marshall are in charge today
Naughty behavior learned at the LUFC Academy as Delph caught Mayherez, who was down, but will be okay.
More nauhgty behavior . Same as the previous comment.
Matty Upson clears for a corner off a miss hit shot from Beneteke. Schwarzer punches away the corner then Wasilewski hoofs it away.
Wasilewski blocks a cross from Cissokho for a corner then Clark heads straight to Schwarzer.
Deadly Doug in attendance . I wonder what he thought about Paul Lambert being given so many chances.
Hutton clears a cross from Danny Simpson for a corner. Given punches out for another. Mayherez takes it short. He gets it back and his superb cross is headed over by Wes Morgan with a free header. He should have hit the target
The corners came off a spell of pressure from the Foxes after several Villa give aways . Tim Sherwood and his staff have their work cut out for them
Shay Given does well to turn a powerful effort from Matty James around the post.
The corner from Mayherez is miss kicked by Cambiasso as Kramaric wins a corner. The next corner from Matty James is headed away by the first man.
Villa break and keep possession then cheaply give it away
It's a battle of ancient keepers as 38 year old Shay Given is in goal for Villa and 42 year old Schwarzer is in goal for the Foxes as he keeps extending his record as the oldest player to ever play for the Foxes.
Beneteke has the ball in the back of the net ,but the offside flag is raised, He got the pass from Bacuna and turned to shoot. A minute of stoppage time as Tim Sherwood heads to the dressing room. He didn't look pleased.
Now it's halftime and 0-0
Hard to say who will win. A typically hard fought derby cup tie, but not too much quality.
The second half is underway from Villa Park
When the players came out of the tunnel , Tim Sherwood looked as if he had given them the hairdryer treatment.
OH!!! The closest Villa have come to scoring. Westwood played a long diagonal ball and Beneteke nipped in front of Konchesky as the ball broke to Bacuna. His cross was headed off the shoulder of Delph and skimmed the top of the net.
Konchesky clears a cross from Hutton on a Villa break for a corner
The corner from westwood was headed away then headed back in and by Hutton and Shcwarzer did well to block a first time effort from Beneteke.
Now a stoppage in play as Matty Upson is down. The replay shows that he was caught by Bacuna in the head by a stray leg.
He's up , looking dizzy , as play resumes.
He's back on.
Beneteke out muscles Upson and wins a free kick just outside the box as he had flicked the ball over Upson.
The free kick was taken short and was shot wide by a certain player from the LUFC Academy as it came off the outside of his boot.
Konchesky booked for a horror tackle on Clever Boy that had Tim Sherwood pop out of his seat.
A wasted free kick from Westwood as it eludes everyone and is out for a throw.
Beneteke heads wide of a cross from Hutton.
Well done, Nigel. He's going for it and why not? It's the cup as Leo Ulloa is on for Wasilewski
Cissokho wins a Villa corner.
The corner from Westwood is headed away as Villa keep possession and
GOAL !!!~! BACUNA GIVES VILLA THE LEAD WITH A NICE CURLING EFFORT FROM JUST OUTISDE THE BOX IN THE CORNER.
The Foxes win a corner off of Hutton
The corner from Matty James is cleared and Villa counter. Nothing comes of it.
To be honest, Villa deserve their lead as Tim Sherwood finally had a smile on his face. His halftime talk was effective as Villa have been playing well for the first time in ages. The corner was headed away then a cross from Delph was headed away then Vlaar used his power to win a loose ball then finesse to find compatriot , Bacuna, who scored his first of the season as he was about to be subbed.
As I was typing, Weimann had a goal disallowed for offside off a pass from Beneteke, then Beneteke blazed over with just Schwarzer to beat
Pressure from the Foxes as Given spilled a pass from Mayherez then pushed away the rebound while on the ground. Seconds later Vlaar superbly blocked an effort from Mayherez to preserve Villa's lead.
Westwood fouls Kramaric just outside the box.
Hutton heads away the free kick from MAtty James. Then Kramaric heads inches over off of head tennis in the box.
Scott Sinclair is on for Bacuna, the scorer
Morning, MUR - I'm joining you for the tail end of this Midlands derby, which I didn't much fancy. After a late night, I opted for a lie in with the missus over the early kick-off. But I'm here for the duration.
Delph called for hand ball off a pass from Matty James and booked . Free kick about 25 yards out.
Cambiasso finds Row M off the free kick
Cambiasso with a wild effort over the top. Leicester are starting to panic.
Good morning, Bob. A good choice. The beginning of the second half would have been a perfect time to join as it's been a good second half.
Interesting stat - Villa are the only Prem team not to have scored in the final 15 minutes. That will give the Foxes some hope.
Tim Sherwood had an effective halftime talk as Villa have had a pretty good second half.
Andy Weimann off for Jack Grealish, the 19 year old Villa Academy prospect.
Jack Grealish , the local academy boy, on for Weimann
Agreed, Bob. It is definitely a chance for the Foxes to tie it up. That would be harsh on Villa , who have had their best half in ages.
So is Nigel Pearson still in charge at Leicester or not?
A poor free kick from Mayherez is straight to Given, or may I say, given to the keeper.
Yes. He is in charge and had been on the Foxes bench today.
So far, no replays , but I may have jinxed that with this remark.
Beneteke has a shot just outside the box easily saved by Schwarzer.
Don't know what Nigel has to do to lose his job.
Some handbags now that the ref has to sort out sharpish.
The only thing saving Nigel is that he got this team in the Prem for the first time in ages and expectations may not be as high as with other teams.
GOAL! A real howler from Schwarzer allows Sinclair to score his first goal for Villa!
GOAL !!!! MATCH CLINCHED AS A SCOTT SINCLAIR SCORES HIS FIRST VILLA GOAL OFF A RARE MISTAKE FROM SCHWARZER THAT HE FUMBLED IN. BENETKE DID WELL TO FIND SINCLAIR OFF A THROW.
Four minutes of stoppage time as Villa are in the quarters and their fist goal of the season scored in the final fifteen minutes
Benteke did really well there lobbing the ball into Sinclair's path. The shot wasn't that difficult but Schwarzer certainly made it seem like it.
GOAL! Leicester are back in it!
GOAL !!! KRMARIUC SCORES A BULLET OF A HEADER FROM THE EDGE OF THE BOX OFF A CROSS FROM SCHLUPP.
Schlupp with a teasing cross over and Kramaric with an excellent header to beat big Brad at the near post.
Danny Simpson booked for a foul on Scott Sinclair. Villa concede a late one as they had appeared to clinch a place in the quarters.
Well over by Kramaric.
Sorry Bob. It's Given in goal as that goal has "given" the Foxes hope.
Villa hoof it clear as the Foxes put a lot of pressure on.
The ball is hacked away there as Tim Sherwood heads for the dressing room.
That's it - Villa are into the 6th Round of the Cup!
It's over as Villa hold on to win 2-1 and are on the quarters.
You're absolutely right - I'm used to seeing Guzan in goal for the Villa but he's obviously been rested today.
I see the next match is on FS2.
Next , is the Bantams vs the Black Cats. I have loaded Gooner's link as I do not get FSC Plus. Teams headed out on to the pitch in what looks a sidewalk from council housing. No wonder why prem teams would struggle here.
The starting line-ups at Bradford:
Bradford City - Williams, Darby, Davies, McArdle, Meredith, Knott, Liddle, Morais, Clarke, Stead, Hanson.
Sunderland - Mannone, Jones, Brown, O'Shea, Van Aan, Bridcutt, Larsson, Johnson, Alvarez, Fletcher, Graham.
Bradford City's FA Cup campaign started in November as they had top come from behind against AFC Halifax in a local derby.
Former Black Cat, Jon Stead, starts up front for the Bantams as Kevin Friend gets us underway
We're away at Bradford on a pitch that reminds me of the good old days of the 70s.
Bob will be pleased to see that Connor Whickham has been dropped in place of Danny Graham Cracker.
well wide by Clarke for the Bantams
First chance for the Bantams to swing a free kick in.
GOAL! Clarke rockets one off former Red Devil John O'Shea and Bradford are in the lead!
Agreed, Bob. It's a cup tie pitch that takes us back to our youth.
GOAL !!!! BILLY CLARKE SHOOTS AND IT'S DIVERTED IN FOR AN OG BY O'SHEA
Sunderland defenders made a mess of that one. You cannot let a ball from a free kick bounce like that in the box. Gus Poyet not pleased.
Fred won't have enjoyed that passage of play, right?
I am pleased to see that Wickham has been benched for the day.
A great free kick by Felipe Morais . The Black Cats looked more like the League One team as they let the ball bobble in the box and Billy Clarke took advantage with a helping hand by O'Shea.
The Bantams really seem up for this one, as do their fans.
Fred will not be pleased at all. That was keystone Kop defending by his team. The last thing a Prem team wants is to go behind early on a lower division ground and give the home fans lots of encouragement.
Danny Graham is down for the count, bleeding copiously. McArdle as well. Nasty head clash there.
Gus not pleased as Danny Graham is down off an agricultural challenge. It was hard, but not that bad of a foul
Poyet looks furious now. His blood pressure won't be helped by this fixture.
McArdle with a head bandage as Danny Graham headed to the dressing room. The Black Cats down a man for the time being. If Graham can't come back soon then they might as well sub him
Gus seems the Black Cats main weapon when he is harassing the fourth official. Now Steven Fletcher has talked himself into the book. I didn't see him being booked. Kind of early for that
Gus will not be popular here due to his spell at ER as the Bantams win a corner off of Van Arnholt, a player Bob must loathe.
Wes Brown heads away a corner then a pass by Morais is cleared
Far too early for that kind of nonsense. This match could easily end up with some injury subs and red cards. It a blood and thunder affair already.
Bantams fans doing well to give the Black Cat players stick as the fans are practically on top of the pitch
Black Cat players are getting too easily rattled and Gus would do well to calm them down at the half. I wonder if Gus needs to claim responsibility for that
The Black Cats are not doing well as they lost at home to a QPR team in midweek that had not gained a single away point this season
A great cross from Mireles as both Hanson and former Black Cat, Jon Stead , completely miss it and a chance to put the Bantams two up.
Fletcher and the Black Cats are appealing for a penalty but Kevin in no Friend to them.
Fred must be livid with that one.
Steven Fletcher goes down , looking for a penalty, but it was a fair tackle. He should be more embarrassed for taking too long to shoot.
That's a horrible cross from Jones, who looks down at the pitch for an excuse.
I didn't think Fletcher had a shout for a penalty. Fred should be upset at his team's performance. He's gone away after being around until the goal was scored.
The Bantams have been the better team and deserve to be in the lead. Gus and Tarrico will need to give the hiardryer treatment at the half.
Fred can't bear to watch, eh? You always predicted that this might be an upset, right?
Will you be around for the match tomorrow. United will visit Preston and some of your old mates in the form of Simon Grayson, Peter Ridsdale, Kevin Davies and possibly Jermaine Beckford.
End to end stuff now; this is a cracking Cup tie.
I should be around - and no guess as to who I'll be supporting.
Danny Graham heads down a cross to Larsson , who hgas a shot blocked for a corner.
Ben williams catches the corner.
A great save by Mannone off a shot from Billy Clarke.
Yes. You are correct. I did sense an upset in this one.
I will be around tomorrow because I'm off for President's Day. I hope we do better than the last time we faced a Simon Grayson team in the Cup. Hope you can join me.
The Bantams did Knott get a shot off .
Fred is not watching the match. He's staring out the window.
Danny Graham has a free header and it's straight to Ben Williams.
Kevin Kilbane is enjoying the match and getting a good laugh at Fred's expense.
Billy Knott wins a free kick off of Seb Larsson. I didn't see anything wrong with that
Davies called for a foul on Billy Jones. A make up call for the free kick?
Billy Clarke booked for a foul on Van Arnholt, the scorer vs Leeds . It seemed a minor foul.
Bob may hate to hear this , but Connor Whickham would be just the player to bring on in this type of match
Seb Larsson fouls Billy Knott just outside the box and is deservedly booked.
Back from a brekkies of Polish donuts and clementines.
Too much curl by Morais and it goes well wide.
Sounds rather tasty. such a sweet brekkies sounds like Valentine's Day leftovers
Ben Williams blocks a powerful shot from Van Arnholt as it's cleared away
I can see an upset here , but I sure didn't see that thrashing at Ewood Park coming. That surprised me as former United Academy player , Josh King, gave the Potters fits all match with his pace.
Indeed they are. This has been a real Cup tie first half. What will Gus say to his side at half-time?
The cross intended for James Hanson was just too high. That could have been a two goal lead.
The cross intended for James Hanson was just too high. That could have been a two goal lead.
Johnson swings one well over the bar. Larsson might have done better.
I'm sure Gus will give them the SAF hairdryer treatment.
A naughty foul by Lidell on Seb Larsson. He could have been booked.
Two minutes of stoppage time
A poor free kick from Adam Johnson is over.
It's halftime and a standing ovation from the home fans at Valley Parade as they are deservedly one up at the half over their Prem opponents.
I will be gone part of the second half of this one . I should be back in time for the late one from the EM.
Cheerio for now, mate. I'll keep the home fires burning.
Looks like it will be an excellent week to access the Fox Soccer 2 Go account at work.
We're back on at the mud patch at Bradford.
Bloody Connor Wickham has come on for Sunderland.
Will anyone want to draw Bradford in the quarters after their last two displays?
Useless long throw from Wickham there.
Almost the hour mark - how with Poyet approach this last half hour?
Oh - Johnson was nearly in there but his finish was just wide. Corner.
GOAL! Bradford are a bit closer to the quarters now.
Terrible decision from Johnson to try to clear across his area. It's intercepted by a Bradford player who heads to Stead who did the rest. Cue the furious reaction from Gus Poyet.
2-0!
Now the Bantams are right on the rampage.
I'm back in time for the match from the EM and see that my link has buggered.
Welcome back, mate. You missed a calamity of a second goal for the Black Cats. Fred must be in hiding by now. What a shocker!
Glad to hear as my stream is loading. Jon Stead will be delighted to score against his former club. The match is on , but frozen
Ta, Bob. I just missed it. Fred is napping in the same spot he's been. Sounds like he's conceding.
Gus will not be pleased , but at least he can focus on Premier League survival.
My link is buggering, so I will rely on you for commentary for the remainder of the match. I had the same problem yesterday
WOW! If the Gunners retain the Cup then Arsene will be joint first for FA Cup wins by a manager
Sure thing, mate. Sunderland are increasingly going long ball to get a goal back and increase there chances of a comeback. Wickham has made no notable difference since coming on.
A warning to you and Gooner that Middlesbrough are Chelsea in disguise as Aidar Karanka was Jose's assistant at Real. enough said as they're off from the EM.
Gus Poyet with a hollow eyed look now.
Ta, mate. You will be satisfied that Whickham has not helped.
You will do well to scout Middlesbrough as Leeds play them at the Riverside in the early match on BEIN next Saturday
I'm going to stick with this one for the duration.
I bet Gus and Jose wished It was Bradford PArk Avenue instead.
BOOM BOOM!
Bob's old mate, Adam Clayton , fouls Giroud.
Mejias superbly turns a curling free kick from Caz around the post.
The corner is headed away , but then Mejias catches a cross from Caz.
Boro should be more than enough to do us over next Saturday. And they could give the Gunners a real fright today.
Aidar Karanka knows he will have a long week since he will be facing teams that you and your brother support in consecutive matches.
Just over ten minutes left at Bradford now.
Will you be around for the early one on Saturday? There is not an early Prem match next Saturday
Gus heading to Park Avenue, wishing he was playing them
I didn't know that you got Plus. We got rid of it because it costs us extra to keep it and I would only watch it about four times a year
I should be, mate. I'll look forward to a rare look at the Leeds boys.
It's part of my overall package now.
It's all Gunners early doors. They are camped in the Middlesbrough half.
Mejias dives to catch a pass from Gibbs,
Stead looks as if he's run out of gas now.
You're lucky. It's always been extra for us. well done.
The match has come back on and still 2-0 with about ten minutes remaining
My link is about out too. Kind of like Stead.
Bradford starting to corner flag it now.
Superb tackle by Omuero, on loan from Chelsea, on Wellie to prevent a close range effort.
Goal hero Billy Clarke comes off to a huge ovation now. Bradford trying to shore it up with fresh legs.
An acrobatic save by Mejias from Giroud then Alexis shoots the rebound into the side netting.
The match is back on for some reason, but I may be several minutes behind.
Did you see the look that Gus gave Taricco? A really cold glare.
Nearly into stoppage time now - Sunderland really haven't threatened in the past ten minutes.
Yeah- he's had that look on his face since kickoff. Not a good day out in Yorkshire for our Gus.
Bob will be amused to hear that Chambers as called for a foul throw . Gooner and dad may not see the funny side of it.
It may have been in the cards. They defeated Chelsea then a team managed by a former Chelsea player.
Three minutes of stoppage time to play.
I'm six minutes behind. The Bantams deserve their win.
Perhaps with a good Cup run Bradford will be able to afford to hire a groundskeeping crew?
And that's it - the Bantams are into the quarter finals of the FA Cup. Marvelous!
