Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

In the early, early on, Burnley and WBA struggled to a hard-fought 2-2 draw, with the home side taking an early lead and the Baggies coming back in the second half. Not really the result that either would have wanted. It leaves WBA in 15th and Burnley just above the drop zone in 19th.
And I definitely chose the right match to snooze through. Newcastle and Stoke are currently an hour into a drab 0-0 draw at SJP.
The team news out of Upton Park:
West Ham: Adrián; Carl Jenkinson, James Tomkins, Cheikhou Kouyate, Aaron Cresswell; Alex Song, Mark Noble, Kevin Nolan (c), Stewart Downing; Diafra Sakho, Enner Valencia
Substitutes: Jaaskelainen, Joey O’Brien, Oxford, Morgan Amalfitano, Matthew Jarvis, Carlton Cole, Elliot Lee
Manchester United: David de Gea; Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw; Daley Blind, Adnan Januzaj, Wayne Rooney, Ángel Di María; Robin van Persie, Radamel Falcao
Substitutes: Victor Valdes, Chris Smalling, Paddy McNair, Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, James Wilson
Referee: Mark Clattenburg
Good morning mate. You are correct. This one has been a dud. I slept through the first half of the early one and missed three goals. The Baggies will be happier as they came from two down to make it Desmond. That was a good match
I saw the second half of the match from Turf Moor. An entertaining match played in dense fog while 75 miles south at the Potteries it's a sunny day.
GOAL !!! THE TOON TAKE THE LEAD VS THE POTTERS.
Newcastle go 1-0 up through a left-footed shot from James Colback. He struck across the ball, allowing it to swerve out of the grasp of the keeper and in off the post.
A nice left footed , curling effort from Colback that went in the corner. It was about a fifteen pass possession that stemmed from a throw near the corner flag
Stephen Ireland has a spectacular effort disallowed for offside. The replay showed he was just off. Unlucky that, but just about the right call.
That goal is of very little consequence to these two sides. It means that they swap places in the middle of the table, Stoke dropping from 10th to 11th. For all intents and purposes, the season is over for both.
Morning, MUR - sorry I missed your arrival. I'm back home in the Cottage, looking forward to the late one, which I hope will be livelier than this one.
How's your weekend going?
It's been a busy weekend. I wonder if I would be better off enjoying the lovely weather. How about you and Kate?
Hey Boys
I hope to be around for the match
If they start stinking it up... I won't be able keep commenting without negativity
Everyone, including me, complain about our D but we have one of the best in the league
It is our attacking that is the problem... with all the 'talent' we have going forward... how is this so?
Goal
Crouchie scores an equalizer in the last minute
GOAL !!!! 1-1 CROUCHIE TIES IT UP WITH A LOOPING HEADER SECONDS BEFORE STOPPAGE TIME.
Toon blew with those couple chances with those breaks
Great header
Crouchie equalizes with a towering header! 1-1 at SJP!
Morning, UWS - great to have you on board. Negativity is perfectly acceptable today. But I'm hoping your United will do you proud.
Four minutes of stoppage time. An American contribution as Geoff Cameron has an assist with a great cross headed in by Crouchie. Whelan played out to Cameron.
Good morning, UWS.
What do you make of the United line-up? Plenty of firepower up front for you, at least theoretically, with Jan, Di Maria, Roon, RVP and Falcao. Cor!
It finishes 1-1. A really dull match with an exciting ending.
That's what I am saying about firepower but we have never really been rampant going forward... we go sideways and backwards
6 goals scored so far this morning... five of them have been headers
That Newcastle v. Stoke match and result was moot. Neither has a chance of qualifying for Europe nor for getting into relegation.
Interesting West Ham news that has United implications. The Hammers have terminated the contract of Ravel Morrison, who was a starlet for United's youth side but hasn't really come good in his professional career.
cuz he's nutcase
still can't believe that Jones and Valencia have so many appearances for United
Teams in the tunnel... cue I'm Forever Bubbles
Fans are blowing bubbles as the teams come out of the tunnel - marvelous!
How is Morrison a nutcase - am I missing something?
Love singing that tune
He got in mega trouble off the field and was not a good trainer
In case you guys have smart phones or will be getting one soon.... the radio app i have for Five Live and Talksport is always a good listen. I could always listen to the matches on Talksport but Five Live would always cut out for Rights Restrictions but for the last few weeks.... IT hasn't!! LOVE LISTENING TO ALAN GREEN AND CO
We're off
Attack
Attack
Attack attack attack
Andy Carroll looking a wee bit glum in the stands as we get underway at Upton Park.
Jones tried to sideways and backwards but it was blocked off so he kicks it long... for a goal kick
Who's the Yank doing the color? Taylor Twellman?
Valencia wins the ball and there is space to run in to but turns and the ball ends up with De Gea
I HATE IT
Timmy Howard
Thanks, mate - you'll be happy to know that I just got a brand spanking new iPhone6 after many years of holding out.
Soon with a rubbish free kick straight into Adrian's arms - what was the point of that?
Rooney wastes a chance to get a free kick in the box... straight to the keeper
Back for the late one and hoping for a United. On paper this should be the MOTD, but it will be hard to top the noon kickoff.
Ah - thanks, mate. I guess that makes sense.
Falcao back in his own half for some reason.
Downing gets the better of Smalling but Twilight snaffles up his hanging cross.
OH... fantastic!!
Your's is better than mine... it was Kate that convinced you
Definitely get that radio app
Interesting comment about Valencia being a waste for our team. Ironic that the better Valencia plays for the Hammers and he was only playing in the Mexican League last season.
Oh - Song with a terrible giveaway to RVP in his own penalty area - but the Dutch Skunk can't take advantage.
Song almost assists to RVP... RVP fails to pounce
Di Maria takes a run at the defender but almost stumbles over the ball and the covering defender easily cuts out the ball
Wil do, mate - no Kate's a dumb phone aficionado as well. My old phone crapped out on me so I thought it was about time to join in with the smart phone thing. I have to admit that it's pretty sweet.
Before I forget. A special thank you Bob for the lovely postcard with a photo of you and Kate. It topped off a memorable day yesterday
Di Maria fails to control again
Cheers, mate - save that date, won't you?
I was a dumb phone affecianado until I misplaced my charger and went to the Verizon store to get a new one. when I went o get charged they said I was due for a fee upgrade and I got a Smart Phone.
Well done with the math tournament mate. It sounds as if your students did you proud.
Heard on talksport last week a comment that was made a while ago
It was about Paul Scholes having a lot to say these days
He said
Paul Scholes reminds me the man with the Juniper bushes in Life of Brian... he never spoke for twenty years while playing and now you can't shut him up!!
I thought that was amusing
Will do. The next thing on my bucket list is to plan the trip. Elizabeth wants to come too.
Glad about you actually getting the phone
You can still have your old iPod with music and then have selective songs on your iPhone
I did the same thing - my new bill with iPhone is going to be LESS than it was for the dumb phone.
Perfectly stated about the Ginger Prince, UWS. Now that he's retired he needs something to keep him occupied.
Both of you, definitely get those radio apps
Love listening to the radio wherever I am
Exactly - that's what I'll do. I don't think I'll need much data as I'll likely either hop on the wireless here or at work most of the time.
So is it the BBC app or a specific one for Talk Sport?
You had two already
Your dumb phone and iPod
Now you'll have a smart phone and iPod
Valencia tries a pop but Twilight is equal to it.
De Gea saves us twice
De Gea saves superbly from Valencia : Theirs Then tips over from theirs off the corner.
And again - Twilight saving United's bacon there as Valencia tries an improvised knee toward goal effort.
And why is Falcao the one heading out?!
Falcao heads out the corner from Noble for another
Thankfully sakho shoots wide off the next corner.
Bob, what's your weather like?
Snow?
We had a few inches over night but it has stopped for a bit but supposed to start again late this afternoon and then not stop until Tuesday
Our last snow day in our schedule is possible for tomorrow
I am fully Mac'ed out at this point, with iMac desktop at work, MacBook Air at home, iPad, iPod and now iPhone. I should have stock.
Valencia with a foul... just give them a chance to kick won in the box... just cleared
Not snowing right now, but we're supposed to get 5 to 9 inches later on today into tomorrow morning.
All West Ham....United can't attack... where's that firepower
I think it is supposed to get up to 10-18 inches by Tuesday
Talking about being surprised Falcao hasn't scored more goals... United haven't scored that many goals
I have the radio on as well as the TV... it might be a bit ahead of the TV
Well, Falcao has spent most of this match defending.
You didn't ask about my weather. Currently sunny and 70 . It's supposed to get up to 80 with a pleasant breeze.
Yeah - it could get nasty. The problem is that I had to cancel my class for last week because of the weather and now it's going to be bad again tomorrow.
Just put in British Radios and you'll get the one I have f
by fbenslim
It was not exactly balmy in Austin this past week - 40s and low 50s and overcast.
I wished we would trade our Valencia for theirs.
Someone on FB said it's going to be 80 today in Lubbock, which is well north of Austin
Any other apps that you'd recommend?
Their Valencia is fouled by a United player who blind sided.
British Radio
BBC Sport
Talksport
Words with Friends
Quiz Up
NBC Sports Extra
ESPN 3
Netflix
Pandora
Will do, mate. Thanks for the list.
UNited get a chance to cross... RVP fails but it gets to Roon... still don't create anything
WE ARE PATHETIC
That was a bit better.
Remember, watching videos take up data... watch those at home with wifi
Useles corner by Roon
West Ham should have done better there
A corner from Roon is passed Adrian then a great tackle by our Valencia on a Hammers break.
I wonder what Johnno makes of this match
Jan loses the ball.... what a sophomore season he has had
What has happened to Jan - he just can't seem to get anything going. Cresswell handled him with ease there.
Yeah - let's be hearing from you, WHR!
I agree. The sophomore curs has really hit Jan, not the man.
Another pisspoor cross.. where is Giggs, Beckham, Kanchelskis, Coppell and Hill
Sorry, curse.
I agree. I really miss them.
Speaking of the blog, I met up with Kate's stepbrother Scott while in Texas. He's recently converted from baseball to watching the Premiership.
His favorite team....Manchester United.
I sent him the link for LOB and he's going to check it out. What would you think of a third United fan on the blog?
Stupid by RVP on Thompkins. What was he thinking?
Can't have too many
Phew!! A let off for RVP , with just a lecture. I've seen early baths for those.
RVP gets a bollocking from Clattenburg for swinging his elbows at Tompkins.
I agree. The more the merrier. Let's be havin' you/
Stuppidly naughty by Jones on Sakho. Really clumsy and stupid. Oh yeah. He is.
50/50 challenge there between Valencia and Phil Jones. Fat Sam not happy about it.
Oh - free header for Tomkins. Twilight saves again!
De gea saves well off a header from a free kick by Cresswell
Another stupid bit of defending by Jones giving a free kick... saved by De Gea
Jones has no brain
West Ham are the more dangerous team BY FAR
Where's the firepower
No touch with that challenge... stop diving!
Jones... gives the ball away again... a professional footballer playing for Manchester United..... REALLY!!!
United giving up way too many set pieces. That's a West Ham strength.
Header won again but hit wide
Normally United keep possession and do nothing with it
Today, United can't keep possession... it is more exciting to watch
Timmy telling players to dive
What has RVP, Fal, Roon, DiM done at all today
it NEVER improves
One defeat in 16 for United
BUT... they are pathetic!!!
Hard to believe that if we nick a 1-0 win then we'll be up to third then we host another claret and blue team on Wednesday
Breakaway for West Ham comes to nothing there. Poor cross.
Rojo fouls twice... that could be a yellow or even Red
That was pathetic by him
Rooney playing far too deep as per usual. I know that's the Van Gaal way but it's not effective.
DiMaria actually hits the target... but hits the keeper right in his stomach
United cough up possession as the Hammers have a break , but get away with it then Di Maria straight to Adrian, who says gracias.
I really dislike how referees let things go until around the 50th minute and then produce a flurry of cards for nothing.
atrocious by Jan
Jan gives away possession. He should be subbed at the half.
still think the card will come out when the ball goes out of play
Valencia has so much time to cross and hits the man!!!
There is the yellow
Well done ref
I agree with Bob. The refs need to more consistent. Rojo booked for a foul he committed five minutes ago.
Useless corner from DiM but gets another chance
GET THE BALL OVER THE FIRST MAN!!
Coming to the end of the first half. United have a corner.
A corner from our United is out for another that is headed over by Rojo
And on the second effort, he puts it straight out. How do players do that after having trained to take corners all week long? Are the conditions really that different?
He does... straight out of play
All three of us could have done that!!!!
A minute of stoppage time.
I could start. I'm down to me fighting weight
One added minute... free kick... United get a corner
Di Maria... the object is to keep the ball in the confines of the playing field
a short one... and the ball goes backwards
ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH
Thoroughly fed up
It's 0-0 at the half. The match is still in the balance.
I noticed that mate. I could use your diet plan.
Rangers lost at home to Raith Rovers at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup
Not the most convincing display from either side, really. Hope for better in the second half.
Only 11,000 at Ibrox
How the mighty have fallen
Agreed. Rangers are probably making the league priority. Agreed with Bob about the match
THey are miles behind Hearts in the league
Just showed three headers that have been scored today... .did you see how the crosses were put in???
Valencia, DiM, Shaw, Jan.... take note
We're off in the second half
Can only get better for my lot
DiMaria... forgets to touch the ball
What a waste of money!
Jan shoots... blocked
He's a ballhog
Back for the second half.
Jan fails to make a five yard pass twice after good work by Blind
Rangers can get promoted via the playoffs.Second third and fourth make the playoffs, starting last season. That's how Hibs got relegated and Hamilton promoted.
United have a throw in... of course it goes back to De Gea... which then leads to free kick to WH after stupidity by Valencia after miscontrols it
This all came from our throw in
Bob was asking about my diet. it's really simple. Do you want the secret?
And West Ham score
Pathetic defending
Sweet finish
OUR THROW IN
DAMN ! Sakho gives the Hammers the lead.
He was allowed three touches... where is the defenders
Again, came from our throw in, bad control, stupid foul
We don't deserve it
Agreed. How about stupid and moronic defending that left De Gea stranded > how was the Coyote going to miss from that range?
United claim a handball.. but again.. why can't Valencia EVER get a cross over
Sorry, lads - I just got back from the bog to see that one go in. Get it back, United!
I agree. I could have defended better than that if I'm not knackered by that stage of the match. I did back in the day
Useless shot by Falcao
Why isn't anyone saying it came from a throw in WH's half and we go backward
Welcome back mate. The bog describes United's defending on the goal. You and I could have done better. The Coyote couldn't miss.
Terrible lay off by Roon to DiM
England captain??
Pathetic by DiM this time
Clueless
Would I be better off enjoying the lovely weather than watching this?
This United side are getting a pass by so many people
I don't know why
They are pathetic
RVP with a shot ... straight at the keepers stomach again
Can you Adam and Eve it? A nice tackle by Jones. That's a collector's item
United could use some Ready Ted action about now.
What on earth was that effort from Falcao?!
I think I just heard howling like a coyote coming from the Georgetown section of DC.
Why does Rooney get a pass
Why does RVP
Why does Di Maria
Rojo clueless there but luckily finds Valencia
Valencia crosses again... you know what happened
So bad by DiM that Jan
I am going to stop commenting... I can't take it
The answer to Bob's question about my diet is don't waste money on those expensive diet plans. Just cut back on the starchy carbs and eat more fruits and vegetables. You don't have to eliminate the starchy carbs or starve. Just don't binge on them. That's it.
The Coyote is down, minutes after scoring. The replay showed that De Gea may have been blindsided when conceding the goal
Just run it off, mate. That's what I was told.
Pathetic cross by Valencia... of course
The an atrocious one by Shaw
The latest from Harlingen : 74 , sunny and breezy. A nice day for flying a kite.
Just past the hour mark - surely time for some changes from LVG. Who would you put on?
A really good ten minutes spell??
What have they created?
I guess I would put on James Wilson and Herrera. That's the best they can do.
Mata?
better corner but no one there
The Private heads out a corner from Di Maria for another.
The next corner is headed away
Useless corner by Rooney
He has been so bad today
I don't want him to be United's top scorer ever
