Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Damn it!
At least it is at home
Good afternoon, gents. I'm in to cool after after breaking a sweat raking leaves. How is everyone this afternoon?
The team news out of Deepdale this evening:
PNE - Stuckmann, Clarke, Huntington, Wright, Laird, Humphrey, Welsh, Kilkenny, Gallagher, K. Davies, Garner. Subs: Hudson, Wiseman, Reid, King, Robinson, Brownhill, Ebanks-Blake
United - Twilight, Valencia, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw, Blind, Herrera, Roon, Fellaini, Di Maria, Falcao. Subs: Valdes, Evans, McNair, Jan, Mata, Young, Wilson
Afternoon, chaps - good to have you on board. Crikey - I thought United v. Arse might be the final. Now it's a quarter-final!
We are guaranteed a non Prem semis for the third year in a row and a Black Country Derby.
Great post, Bob. If Evil Ridsdale is the leader then Simon Grayson and KD are his able assistants.
Simon Grayson on the pitch after exchanging pleasantries with Bob.
Shut it about sweating!!!
It is -4 here!
Definitely not working up a sweat here, mate. My nasal passages froze up on the walk over here this morning.
-17F this morning when I came to campus!
It looks a decent stadium. Not any worse than some Prem stadiums
They're off from Deepdale.
I'm surprised they didn't cancel the walk this at least for safety purposes and reschedule.
Ridsdale is pouring all of that stolen LUFC cash into PNE now.
Sorry you gents are shivering. It's a tropical 84 here with a refreshing breeze.
We had a surprisingly good turnout for the Open House today - very hardy stock, these WNY people.
Luke Shaw wins a United corner.
Oh - Shaw could have easily crossed there.
The corner from Roon is back to Roon then a cross from Di Maria is headed away then a foul is called.
They must be . I thought frostbite would be an issue.
Preston is fourth in League One in a playoff spot. They eliminated the Evil Blades in the last round in a replay in an evil double thriller.
Blind falls over much to the delight of the evil PNE minions.
Blind called for a foul on KD. It looks the right call.
A long free kick comes to nothing.
To answer the Ridsdale Deepdale question, he probably didn't put all the LUFC money into Preston because he probably put that money into Evil Cardiff and Argyle when he owned them .
The pitch looks in great condition . United cannot use that excuse.,
A moment's applause for Sir Tom Finney.
They tripled the pie allocation to 4,000 today - one pie per every five punters.
Speculative effort from Garner. He won't trouble Twilight from that range.
The through ball from Di MAria intended for Roon was too long . Should have been a chance for Roon.
Oh - Roon was nearly in there but bollixed up the pass to Hair Bear.
Nice pass from Di MAria to Roon on the next possession, but Roon stumbles , trying to find Hair Bear with a pass.
Bob will be interested to know that this is a return to PNE for Sir Bobby.
The teams last met in 1972 , also in the Cup when United won 0-2 . Alan Gowling scored both goals.
Naughty by Valencia on Laird and fortunate not to be booked for that
Falcao is fouled by Wright about 25 yards out. The PNE Aussie WC player was in the wrong.
Falcao is brought down, and now United have their first decent chance at goal.
The free kick from Di Maria is several yards wide.
DiMaria takes and misses left-footed. He should have hit the target - would've scored in that case.
The evergreen Kevin Davies is off for treatment.
KD getting his wrist plastered. Is He intending to punch somebody?
A touch of arthritis for KD?
Hair Bear is off getting treated for a nose bleed.
Luke Shaw chases down a pass from Blind and gets in a cross as Roon has a shot blocked.
A through ball from Di MAria intended for Roon is cut out for a corner.
Roon hits the first man with his corner and PNE are off to the races again.
The corner from Roon is headed out and a PNE counter led by Humphrey comes to naught.
Hair Bear loses control of the ball by the PNE corner flag and is called for a foul.
Not a lot of real chances so far.
Not so far. All KD has done is foul. Fine with me because PNE won't score if their target man is gifting us possession.
Ander Herrera called for a foul on Scott Laird.
Joe Garner heads well over from the free kick.
BAiley Wright , the Aussie international , fouls Falcao
Poor control by Falcao off a great run and pass from Di MAria. He would have been in with just the keeper to beat
Oh - Falcao was nearly in there, but seemed to be held back.
An atrocious cross from Di Maria , to the delight of the home fans.
Pathetic cross from Blind.
PNE have a lot of bodies behind the ball.
Watching from a distance... UNITED SUCK
Now Roon gets in on the act of atrocious passing
Rubbish ball there from Roon.
United need some remodeling.
Davies picks up his requisite yellow card. Early for him.
KD gets his requisite booking as it's a nasty one on Ander Herrera. I hope he gets another yellow.
Huntington heads out the free kick for a United corner.
Another terrible corner from Roon.
The corner from Roon is helped on by Herrera then hoofed away.
It could be a third 0-0 halftime score in a row at lower league opposition in the Cup.
Oh dear - what was that from Herrera?
Joe Garner flagged offside for Preston.
Kilkenny should be booked for kicking the ball away.
Oh - Falcao was too unselfish there - why didn't he turn and shoot!?
Another former LUFC player?
That final ball is just proving elusive.
The cross from Roon intended for Falcao or Hair Bear was too high. A minute of stoppage time.
Yep - Neil was with us for several seasons.
It's 0-0 at the half for the third consecutive FA Cup Tie for United at lower league opposition.
That's half time, then. Disappointing from United. They should be able to put these mugs to the sword.
We're back on for the second half, the teams coming back out the tunnel.
It's still 84 here. Cooler tomorrow with lows in the 40s and highs in the 50s.
The second half is underway
Kevin Davies still chattering away about his first half booking.
You are absolutely correct. One would think that we would dispatch these mugs, but we struggled with Yeovil and Cambridge , who are lesser opposition.
I don't even remember the return fixture with Cambridge.
GOAL! Laird has put PNE ahead. Sorry, mate.
BLOODY HELL!!!! THE CURSE OF GRAYSON AS SCOTT LAIRD GIVES PRESTON THE LEAD . A GOALKEEPING ERROR BY DE GEA AS IT WENT IN UNDER HIS BODY.
Tried and true long ball stuff from Preston. A flick on from Davies and a knock on from Garner into Laird's path. The deflection from Valencia put it out of Twilight's reach.
United need to get this one back in a hurry.
I think the deflection threw off of Valencia threw off De Gea. A long clearance from Blind was headed back and flicked on by KD to Joe Garner. His nice through ball was put away by Scott Laird with a deflection off of Valencia.
Thanks Bob. Sorry to you too as I'm sure you wanted to see Ridsdale wither in his bile.
The last time United faced a Simon Grayson team they also lost 1-0 . I winder if Bob remembers that. I hope history doesn't repeat itself.
Clarke couldn't get on the end of that long free kick because it could have been 2-0 and match over.
Great cross there by DiMaria but Hair Bear couldn't get his fro on it.
Stupid by Hair Bear on KD , who needs to shut it . Either put masking tape across his lips or send him off.
And now Hair Bear chops down KD. Decent free kick chance.
Time to start thinking about some changes now.
ARE YOU WATCHING UNITED? JOE GARNER JUST SHOWED HOW YOU HOW A THROUGH BALL IS SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED?
Yes. LVG should have the subs warming up. I hope he's not waiting for Act of Congress.
GET UP DI MARIA AND STOP BEING A BABY. a FAIR TACKLE BY hUMPHREY.
Yashley being prepared to come on for Falcao.
Bloody hell! As if Yashley's the person you want coming on when you need a goal. Glad Falcao is coming off.
I'd also have Mata on for Herrera, who's been horrible.
I hear snickering from Alexandria, Va. Bob, do you have any idea whom that might be?
Great saving header from Clarke as Hair Bear was bombing in on Valencia chipped cross.
Better from United as it was a superb defensive header from Tom Clarke off the cross from Valencia. Pathetic volley by Roon, who should have tied it up.
Or maybe DiMaria has to come off - he hasn't been great.
Falcao doesn't seem to want to come off. Not a happy chappy.
Falcao has dillusions of grandeur as he seems perplexed at being replaced by Yashley. He needs to sit in an LOB chair and get a reality check
I agree with you about Mata for Herrera . It would be an more attacking switch and he has the craft and guile to break down this PNE defense.
Oh - Garner ghosted by Smalling but his header was easily saved by Twilight.
Joe Garner had a free header, but thankfully it was tame and easily saved by De Gea.
Oh - Hair Bear has another chance but it's blocked by defender and keeper alike.
Great last ditch tackle by Huntington on Hair Bear.
GOAL! Herrera squeezes one by Roon and in off the post. PNE are appealing for offside on Roon but he wasn't interfering.
1-1!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! 1-1 ANDER HERRERA TIES IT UP AS HE LOOKED AS HE MAY HAVE BEEN OFFSIDE. GREAT FOOT WORK AND PASS FROM YASHLEY .
PNE don't have a case . Roon made it a point to not interfere. An intelligent move by Roon.
Kilkenny picks up a yellow now for upending Yashley and United can swing a free kick in.
A cynical thuggish foul by Kilkenny on Yashley. He may have saved a goal as he was deservedly booked.
The free kick swung in by Roon is headed away.
Rubbish free kick by Roon.
Now it's yellow for Rojo.
Rojo booked for a foul on Joe Garner.
PHEW!!! Nice free kick by Joe Garner that was inches over. United off the hook.
Gallagher goes for goal but it's comfortably over the bar.
Davies lunges in again and gets a final warning from Phil Dowd.
Bob and Yours Truly were both in the wrong. Bob wanted Herrera subbed and I said as if Yashley will help us get a goal. One assisted and on scored. I guess we're not perfect.
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!
THE HAIR BEAR GIVES UNITED THE LEAD.
GOAL! Hair Bear at the second bite at it!
1-2 United!
Valencia did the damage there on the right, getting to the bye line and floated over a brilliant cross for Hear Bair.
Oh - DiMaria nearly in there from Roon's ball. Stuckmann did well to sweep.
I think the possession leading to the goal started with that foul by KD. Luke Shaw , who passed to Herrera . His diagonal pass found Valencia, who turned LAird inside out as his cross was headed by Hair Bear and saved b Struttmann . Hair put away the rebound
Simon Grayson plays his final jokers.
Correct. But for that timely clearance by Stuttman,it would have been a two goal lead for United.
A definite joker by Grayson as Scott Wiseman, the Gibraltar international is on for Bailey Wright ,the Aussie international.
Oh - Hair Bear was in again and United seem to be overwhelming PNE finally.
People may forget that Sir Bobby will be satisfied as he left as manager of PNE under bitter circumstances in the mid 70s.
I hope they wallop PNE as I hope you and Sir Bobby do.
Did Grayson make a triple substitution. I only saw the one. Smart to remove KD, who was in danger of getting an early bath. A vile one he is.
Just wide by Kyle Reid as the United defending was shambolic and diabolical.
I'm sure the Gooner was hoping for another giant killing this evening.
Yeah - three off - Davies, Kilkenny and Wiseman.
I don't know - United are a known quantity, even at OT. PNE at Deepdale on a cold evening is not Arsene's cup of tea at all.
Atrocious cross by Di Maria. Her got past Laird as did Valencia for that goal.
Robinson tried a pop from distance but it was straight down Twilight's throat.
Robinson straight at De Gea off a horrible back pass from Valencia..
Inside the last ten minutes then.
Would it be that cold in March? I do see your point.
KD and Kilkenny off makes it a less evil PONE side. Those two were in danger of getting an early bath
Blind looked just that as he passed to the wrong team
United should be able to see this one out - PNE don't have much threat left.
That'll about do it. Penalty to United and Roon as he went streaking through.
A definite penalty by Stuttman as he tripped Roon after getting behind the PNE defense.
Not a lot of contact there - Roon dragged his feet back. A bit embarrassing.
Roon steps up and hammers home.
1-3!
GOAL !!! ROON PUTS UNITED 1-3 UP FROM THE SPOT AND IN THE QUARTERS AGAINST THE GOONERS.
That's it for me, mate. I'm off home now that United are home and hosed.
Cheerio!
I thought it was a definite trip and a stupid challenge by Stuttman as Roon was heading nowhere. A lack of common sense by Stuttman, IMHO.
Cheers mate. It was great chatting with you. Have a safe trip home and stay warm
Four minutes of stoppage time.
Bob was right. The ref was conned. Definite dive by Roon as shown on the replay. United should still only be a goal up.Still, what was Stuttman thinking. If you stick out the leg like that you're asking for trouble, dive or not.
Valencia heads out for a late PNE corner.
A header by Laird from the corner by Kyle Reid is superbly saved by De Gea then cleared off the line by Yashley. That could have been Desmond under different circumstances.
A super late PNE corner.
Joe Garner heads well wide from a really deep corner as Phil Dowd blows the final whistle . United run out comfortable 1-3 winners , but were less than convincing as PNE gave them a real scare.
That's it for me. It was great chatting with everyone.
CHEERS!
