Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Bob will be pleased to hear that the Bantams are two up vs the Evil Blades at the hour mark
Morning, MUR - thanks for getting us started with an excellent posting. I had a late night with Kate, so it was difficult rousing myself for Spurs v. Palace. But I'm here.
The team news out of Shite Fart Lane:
Tottenham: Lloris; Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies; Dier, Alli; Lamela, Son, Chadli; Kane. Subs: Vorm, Fazio, Trippier, Carroll, Clinton, Eriksen, Townsend.
Crystal Palace: McCarthy; Kelly, Hangeland, Delaney, Souaré; McArthur, Cabaye; Zaha, Puncheon, Sako; Bolasie. Subs: Hennessey, Mariappa, Ledley, Mutch, Lee, Campbell, Bamford.
Referee: Michael Oliver
Cheers mate. Thanks for joining me for the match. I think it should be a decent match. It sounds like the night Elizabeth and I had Friday night.
If you love goals then go to Russia with love as CSKA Moscow won 4-6 at Mordovia Saransk. Only geography buffs will know whether or not CSKA will be enjoying a long or short Journey home.
They're off from sunny SFL
A shock in La Liga As Sevilla lost 1-2 to Celta Vigo.
Yikes! The Evil Blades have come from two down to make it Desmond at Valley Parade with two goals in five minutes from OG and Bob's beloved Billy Sharp.
Number One Son has a shot deflected for a corner, then a poor header by Harry Kane's standards as he heads high and wide from ten yards out, looking me in my playing days.
Not at all happy with that come-back.
A lot of pressure today on Harry Kane, who has scored for England but not for his club in the Premiership this season.
Some nice interplay there by Spurs on the edge of the Palace box ends with a corner.
Son has a shoot blocked for a corner after the Spuds made several attempts to get a shot off. Souare heads away the corner from Lamella.
Palace are finding it hard to get out of their half at the moment and even when they do, their passing has been letting them down. This is a decent start from Spurs.
I thought you would feel that way about the Yorkie Derby despite your beloved Billy Sharp scoring the equalizer.
I agree. I was expecting better from Palace. I guess it's still early doors.
This match is on Born in the USA, not East LA.
Nice long range save by McCarthy from Lamella then Delaney clears for a Spuds corner. No Kane was offside.
Vertonghen clears a pass from Sakho for Palace's first corner.
Bloody Billy Sharp - I should have known (sigh)....
Hangelaand shoots straight at Lloris as Sore headed on Puncheon's deep corner then McCArhty saves from Chadli
Sorry. Unless I was thinking of Sharp Cheddar.
Speaking of Sheffield, there was a guy we were trying to get from Charlton this summer who decided not to join Leeds. His reason - "Leeds is too far North." Where did he end up - Sheffield United. I thought - what twenty minutes up the motorway is "too far north?!"
Bolasie has a shot deflected for a corner off an entertaining solo run
Chadli’s man bun. Your thoughts?
Alderweireld heads away the corner from Cabaye.
It doesn't look very manly.
It finishes Desmond between the Bantams and the Evil Blades.
Number One Son has a shot deflected for a corner.
Not at all manly.
The corner is easily caught by McCArthy.
#1 Son seems to pull the trigger whenever he's within fifty yards of goal. Extraordinary.
Ben Davies skies over a long range effort.
Walker got to the by-line there but his final ball was woeful. Was he mentored by Aaron Lennon?
He bundled in a corner in the six yard box in the EL. was that a trick play?
McCArthy does well to save from Alli then Kane shoots the rebound across the box.,
Oh - Ally produced a great save out of McCarthy and Kane on the follow-up could merely fizz one across the goal-line from a tight angle.
He could well have been tutored by the eight beetle, although, it's rare that someone from the LUFC Academy tutors someone from the Evil Blades Academy.
The commentator seems to be priming himself for a Harry Kane goal celebration. Every time he winds one up, he bellows his name and then...."no." I'm sure that he's got a snappy line tucked away somewhere for that moment.
Bolasie turns and shoots sharply but Lloris is behind it.
Can you Adam and Eve it? Three local derbies in the Capital One Cup in midweek:
Palace vs Charlton, The Second City Derby , and the North London Derby. Were these drawn at random?
I'm sure Harry's used to it!
Ben Davies fouls the speedy Bolassie just outside the box.
Lloris punches away a powerful free kick from Sakho.
Alli called for obstructing Sakho.
Delaney is fortunate not to be booked after a rugby tackle on Kane.
mCcarthy is forced to punch away a miss hit cross from Chadli then the Spuds win a corner.. It's taken short.
The Spuds have huffed and puffed like an overcooked potato fresh from the microwave.
Oh - Cabaye hit the post!
OH!!! Off the post from Cabaye.
Son breaks and Kelly hacks him down - first yellow card.
Then Kelly is booked for a foul on a Spuds break.Into stoppage time.A minute
It's 0-0 at the half. Hopefully, it will be a more entertaining second half.
One former United trainee is on for another as Frazier Campbell is on for Willie Zaha. The second half is underway.
A nervie moment for Palace fans as McCarthy clears a back pass off of Son, but it goes out for a goal kick.
We're back on at Shite Fart for the second half. No changes for Spurs but Palace have made a switch up top.
AN LOB moment as David Goodwillie gives table topping Aberdeen an early lead at Hearts.
Palace made a change .A swap of former United players as Frazier Campbell is on for Zaha.
Still the best name in British footie - Goodwillie.
That means Frazier and Alli are both on the pitch!
They love their big name players in Aberdeen. I think Dean Windass had a spell there. They don't discriminate. Any end will do!
Nice one, mate - it should be a Rumble in the Jungle.
Cheers! where are the score cards?
McArthur fouls Alli just outside the box.
Nice free kick curling over the wall, but tipped out by McCarthy. Palace are no mugs - they'll not be easy to beat.
McCarthy pushes over the free kick from Lamella. Souare heads out the corner for another.
Aberdeen do two up at Hearts. Niall McGinn, the NORN Irish international, with the goal for the table toppers
Agreed. Palace will be a tough nut to crack.
And I'm not sure a home draw is what the doctor ordered for the Spuds. They're mid-table with no improvement in sight. Palace are 7th and over performing.
Both 11 AM matches will be televised. I guess it's a rare PIP on Sunday morning
Spurs have the ball in the net after a massive scramble, but it's been flagged off. More frustration.
A relieved Palace as they couldn't clear and a headed goal by Ben Davies was disallowed for offside. I think Harry Kane was when he headed on to Big Ben,.Not very timely.
Love the coverage - it's even edging out the Bills v. Patriots pre-game nonsense.
It will be Saints vs United on NBCSN and Pool vs the Canaries on Born in the USA.
You know which one I'll be watching!
I saw a piece of an NFL game in years when I watched the tail end Thursday evening. They're all rigged. You're not missing anything.
Hopefully, NBCSN. You will enjoy the double Dutch!
Bolasie is booked for a foul on Walker.
Oh - Sako rockets one off the post! Might have been tipped on to the post by Lloris.
OH!!!! Palace hit the upright again as Sakho has a shot cannon off the outside of the far post. Great cross from Soaure.
Eriksen is on for Chadli in an attempt to provide some late magic.
GOAL! Son scores his first goal for his new club!
GOAL !!! NUMBER ONE SON GIVES THE SPUDS THE LEAD ON A TEXTBOOK BREAK LED BY ERIKSEN, WHO JUST CAME ON AS A SUB.
Nice break forward for Spurs, Siggy fed him and Son did the rest. McCarthy might want that one back as it squeezed in between his legs.
1-0!
I'm sure this was a sight all too familiar to you as McCarthy was too easily beaten at his near post. Lamella tackled Cabaye just outside his won box, then found Eriksen, who passed to the speedy Son, who unleashed a powerful near post effort past McCArthy despite a challenge from Hangelaand.
It was Son's first Prem goal for the Spuds, but he did score Thursday in the EL against a club from the Land of Borat.
A nasty lunge by Delaney on Kane.Just a lecture from Michael Oliver.
An Atrocious free kick is well over and wasted.
Well pointed out, mate. How did Spurs get on in the EL?
Jordan Mutch will need to live up to his name as he comes on for McArthur in an attacking switch
Just wide by Alli as he's ahead of Frazier on the count.
Cheers mate. They trailed early on, but ran out 3-1 winners. Pool drew 1-1 in Bordeaux. It was Desmond between Celtic and Ajax Cleaner.
The Spuds fans treat Son as if he's Number One as he's replaced by Clinton N'Jie.
Bob will be delighted to hear that David Goodwillie has scored a second for Aberdeen as they go three up at Hearts . That's now a halftime score.
I am delighted for the lad.
Celtic vs Dundee just kicked off and the Hoops will need to win so that they don't fall further behind the surprising Dons.
Spurs still need a consistent goalscorer. It's clear that Kane is suffering under the huge expectations.
Bolassie wins a Palace corner.
Lloris easily catches the corner.
Looks like last season's Championship top scorer Patrick Bamford is coming off the bench.
Looks like last season's Championship top scorer Patrick Bamford is coming off the bench.
Wee Gordon may do well to watch Goodwillie unless he's to much for him to handle.
He's on for Bolassie. Will the Chelsea loanee be able to handle the step up to the Prem.
Agreed about Harry Kane.I thought this may happen.
Tom Carroll is on for Lamella.
Lamella off and some 12 year kid is on in his place.
Lloris and Frazier battle for the ball. Lloris wasn't happy about the jab, but got over it.
I think he's more like 22. Tom Carroll has been on the Spuds books for a while, but has been loaned to multiple clubs.
Alderweireld heads out for a Palace corner.
Palace giving it a go as we wind our way into stoppage time. Four minutes to come.
Into stoppage time . Four minutes as Lloris punched away a corner that was Punceheon in.
Souare well wide . That won;t tie it up.
Palace need to launch it into the Spurs box.
Not much of a cross as Lloris easily catches the cross from Jordan Mutch
It was more like lunch for Lloris than a launch
It's over and finishes 1-0 to the Spuds.
Spurs run out 1-0 winners thanks to Son's goal. They still haven't sorted out their goal drought but this will give them a bit of boost ahead of their League Cup match against the Arsenal.
Celtic are two up vs Dundee as they keep pace with the Dons. The goals were scored by Tomas Rogic and Leigh Griffiths in a three minute span.
Now then - this is a major opportunity for United to catch up with Citeh. A win against the Saints today would bring United within two points of the top.
Here are the teams warming up on the pitch:
Southampton: Stekelenburg, Yoshida, Fonte, van Dijk, Targett, Wanyama, Romeu, Mane, Ward-Prowse, Tadic, Pelle. Subs: Kelvin Davis, Cedric Soares, Long, Steven Davis, Rodriguez, Martina, Juanmi.
Man Utd: De Gea, Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Rojo, Carrick, Schneiderlin, Mata, Rooney, Depay, Martial. Subs: Young, Romero, Ander Herrera, Valencia, Fellaini, Schweinsteiger, McNair.
Teams going out at Anfield.
NBC Sports Network getting to the match just in time to see Soton kick us off. Not sure we're completely live.
Not sure at all about these United away kits. Black with red trim and white shorts. Doesn't look like United at all.
Back for the late uns and 0-0 in both as Tadic shoots just wide.
It’s a slow, scrappy start here in truth. The midfield looks as if it’ll be pretty congested and tightly contested.
Rojo clears a cross from Tadic for a corner.
United win a free kick off the Saints corner.
That's a bit better from the home side. Tadic tried a slide rule pass to Pelle - well cut out by Roja who's deputizing.
Now it's is - 1-0. Sorry, mate. It was coming.
BUGGER!!! PELLE GIVES THE SAINTS THE LEAD.
Sweeping move by the Saints. De Gea did well to save the first shot but Pelle followed up.
Mane oh Mane! it's hard to blame De Gea. It was slick football form the Siants that started with the kepeer. James Ward-Proswe put in a teasing cross that was saved at point blank range byu De Gea from Mane and Pelle easily put away the rebound
OH!!! off the outside of the post by Pelle as the Saints are running rampant/.
Aberdeen won 1-3 at Hearts while Celtic are three up vs Dundee. That means that Aberdeen will maintain their five point lead over Celtic.
A team in red and white striped shirts and black shorts is running riot vs United. It's a feeling of deja vu.
But Martial gets a little space in the ‘D, slicing well over on the half-turn.
The match at Anfield looks fairly uneventful.
Nice pun on Mane's name, mate. You're on fire this morning.
Celtic now four up vs toothless Crocodile Dundee.
Cheers mate.
James Ward-Prowse with a long range effort straight to De Gea./
David Goodwillie had a brace, which according to Wee Gordon, is two balls in the back of the net.The first was scored early doors ,so he referred to that as a quickie.
United lost 6-3 at the Dell when wearing weird jerseys. it's the curse of Southampton.
Memphis heads over the cross from Mata.
I think United had to come from behind to win here last season
Mane showed Darmian a clean pair of heels , but United cleared the danger.
Blind clears for a Saints corner.
A chance for the Canaries as Nathan redmond heads wide.
Martial is back defending as he clears the Saints corner.
Naughty by Mata on Tadic
UWS would not be happy with this performance, if he were watching. Sorry, mate.
Some trickery by Roon , but the pass is straight to a Saints player, then Schneiderlin commits a foul on his return to St. MAry's
Thanks, mate.I wonder where he is , but he would be livid.
Liverpool fans are looking glum as they are being easily held by the Canaries.
Better from Pool as another ex Saint, Nat Clyne shoots just wide, but John Ruddy appeared to have the angle covered.
Juve love the taste of a 0-2 win at Genoa Salami.
Toulouse did not play to as they ,like Liverpool, drew 1-1 at Bordeaux.
GOAL !!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! 1-1 AS KUNG FU PANDA AS THERE YET AGAIN TO SCORE.,
GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Martial Arts strikes again with the kung fu grip!
1-1!
Some great skill as Martial picked up a loose ball off a slide tackle on Mata and turned a defender before finishing cheekily past Stecks. It started with a ball played in by Scheiderlin on his return to St.MAry's
I can visualize UWS with the Kung FU body language, willing that shot in.
Timmy says it was offside, but it looked too close to call and the benefit is supposed to go to the attacker.
According to Inspector Poirot, Monaco is losing 1-2 to Lorient Express.
Now United are rampant - with Memphis and Martial on the tear.
Hair Bun Virgil Van Dyke tackles for a United corner.
It's taken short and Memphis has a cross cut for another corner. It's just wide by Schneiderlin against his old club off a routine from training.
James Milner with a long range volley straight to Ruddy.
Minnie does well to push away a powerful Canaries effort.
A minute of stoppage time.It may become two.
Matt Targett is injured because he 's not nearly as strong as Kung Fu Panda.
A minute of stoppage time at Anfield.
It's 1-1 at the half at St. MAry's
It's 0-0 at the half at Anfield.
Half-time - 1-1. United finished strong and could easily run out winners today.
Nick Ames of the Guardian says: "There we are. United weren’t at the races for half an hour, conceding one to a sparky Southampton side and lucky not to go down by more. But Martial scored a superbly-taken equaliser and Louis Van Gaal’s side definitely finished the stronger. Really hard to call a winner here. Stay close."
At Anfield, it is Liverpool 0-0 Norwich at the break. Liverpool fans must really be missing Suarez today, as he scored a whopping 16 goals against the Canaries during his stint at the club.
Interestingly, Anthony Martial is now United's top goalscorer with...two goals. (gulp!)
It's over at Celtic Park as the Hoops hit Dundee for half a dozen without reply. Emilio Yzaguirre, the Honduran fullback would have had a hat-trick , but for a penalty miss.Perhaps he wasn't thirsty enough to put his team seven up!
Memphis has three CL goals . Does that count?
The second half is underway.
Come on, United!
A change for each side, both at fullback. Antonio Bloody Hell Valencia on for the injured DArmian while Matty Targett has been replaced by a Curacao international That's code for can't make the Dutch National Team
Now Arlo says The United change was tactical
The Darmian/Valencia switch was apparently tactical, which might mean it was a conscious attempt to get United further on the front foot.
I remember Suarez doing better against the Canaries than Sylvester. I'm sure they prefer a putty cat over the Uruguayan striker.
A great close range block by Minnie to prevent the Canaries from taking the lead.
Everybody is Kung Fu Fighting! GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1-2 United! This kid is on fire!
WAY HAY!!!! MARTIAL KARATE CHOPS THE BALL AWAY FROM A SAINTS DEFENDER TO PUT UNITED IN THE LEAD.
Pool take the lead at Anfield.
Terrible mistake by Yoshida but Martial still had to beat the keeper and didn't he do that with aplomb!
Danny Ings has opened the scoring for Liverpool against Norwich.
Those Kung Fu lessons are paying off as Martial keenly concentrated as he took advantage of a poor back pass and finished cooly past Stecks. United have come from behind to lead 1-2 at St.. Mary's as they did in the Monday nighter last season./
Martial's finish is even better when viewed from the angle behind the goal. He waits and waits for Stekelenberg to commit to the right, before sliding it by his left side. Very cool!
His first for Pool. Kung Fu took advantage of a poor back pass from the Samarai Warrior.
Rojo gets back well there to cut out the cross.
Romeu is replaced by Davis, who should add more forward impetus to the home midfield.
Romeu is replaced by Davis, who should add more forward impetus to the home midfield.
I just viewed the Danny Ings goal. it was a similar finish to the latest United goal. Moreno tackled Russell Martin in midfield then played a long ball over the Norwich back four. Ings finished well past John Ruddy in front of the KOP./
Coutinho curled a shot just wide .
What a save from Twilight!
What a world class save by De Gea from a header off a Saints corner. I'm glad he stayed with us instead of going to Real./
