Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

This morning should certainly satisfy our appetite for the Premiership until the end of the international break. What a day!
Here are the teams warming up on the hallowed Goodison turf right now:
Everton: Howard; Browning, Jagielka, Funes Mori, Galloway; McCarthy, Barry; Deulofeu, Barkley, Naismith; Lukaku. Subs: Robles, Gibson, Oviedo, Kone, Lennon, Osman, Holgate.
Liverpool: Mignolet; Can, Skrtel, Sakho; Clyne, Milner, Lucas, Moreno; Coutinho; Sturridge, Ings. Subs: Gomez, Lallana, Allen, Origi, Ibe, Bogdan, Rossiter.
Referee: Martin Atkinson (W Yorkshire)
Brendan Rodgers speaks. “We go into the game with confidence,” he says. “I think in my time here we’ve made too many mistakes defensively but thankfully we’ve always been creative going forward and dynamic. If we can cut out the mistakes, we know we can score goals.”
Good morning Bob. It is a massive morning. We will probably need a break, LOL!
Morning, MUR - great to have you on board for the biggest Sunday morning in recent memory. Wow!
Fulham are two up at Charlton midway through the second half.
Teams in the tunnel waiting to come out to the tune of the "Z Cars" theme.
Cheers mate. It's , especially the Swans vs the Spuds.
Morning Boys
A big un indeed
I'm rooting for the Red team and then the Black!!!
Z Cars play as the teams come out of the tunnel
Morning, UWS - I hope that they never change that tradition. It still reminds me of my childhood.
Fred is even up for this one.
I was just kidding about that one match
Did I type that wrong??
Blue team and Black
We are off
They're off from Goodison.
Good morning. COYB!
Did anyone listen to that horrible rant from Jose. it's as if he's trying to win the sack race.
Me too
I just googled Z Cars and watched the opening credits
It lasted from 1962 until Sept of 1978
Trivia
What was the show that spun off Z Cars?
Let's have some goals, lads!
Good morning Someone. This is basically the match of the season for you.
Got that one - "Softly Softly Taskforce." Right?
I'm not sure what show spun off of Z Cars, but I wasn't aware that it lasted that many seasons. I remember watching some episodes.
I think Everton's start has been sugar coated by some results
They started with a 2-2 draw at home to Watford coming back twice. Their next home match they lost to City
Wins at Sotton and home to Chelsea made things better
They should have lost last Monday being 2-0 at the Hawthorns
Morning, Someone! Great to have you on board for one of the biggest Sunday mornings I can remember.
Softly Softly is correct
If that's correct then I would have never answered that one. I don't remember that show,
Morning Someone
Do want some toffee?
I have coffee :)
Advocaat out at Sunderland.
Sunderland are looking for a new manager... confirmed
I agree, UWS. These sides are fairly evenly pegged.
It's official. Dick Advocate has left the club. If he resigned then the sack race is on. Jose seems to be in the lead.
Now then - do I count that as the first sacking? Or not? What say you, lads?
Do not count it . He wasn't sacked; he resigned.
I guess we should all watch the Swansea Spurs game later on, no?
A resignation is not a sack.
visitors with a free kick. Jagielka leading a very young back four.
Jags cuts out a cross from Skrtel for a Pool corner.
I think so
He is only going cuz he was going to be sacked
I think we should in the future... First manager to leave his position
Alberto Moreno wins another corner,.
I am in the minority
Skrtel heads into the ground and over off the corner from Moreno
Correct UWS. We should watch the Swans feasting on some Spuds. As if there's a more important match later on!
Probably should wait for the first real sacking, then. But next season I might clarify it based on UWS' suggestion.
By the way, MUR and Red Dragon (Thomas) were the only ones to pick Advocaat to win the sack race.
Great challenge there from Jags as Ings was threatening.
Another Pool corner and taken again by Moreno A last ditch tackle by Jags on Ings comes off of Ings for a goal kick
Liverpool have suddenly taken the game by the scruff of the neck.
Barkley is the only Merseysider on the pitch - boy, have things changed.
Even though I was advocating Dick for the sack , I shouldn't get credit because he resigned. If any of us resign from our job, it doesn't mean we were sacked. It would be dishonest of me to claim the points.
Isn't Danny Ings the only Merseysider on the pitch?
Oh - the ball came to Ings who struck it on the volley. Just swerved over the bar.
Just over by Danny Ings on the half volley.
Ings with a high shot. visitors controlling the match early. Everton's passing not on the mark.
According to Wikipedia, Ings was born in Hampshire. The commentators said that Barkley is the only Merseysider on display today. With Stevie G. gone, there are no Liverpool born players in the Liverpool side today.
Scouser Barkley and now Naismith getting a bit chippy out there. No cards yet.
Liverpool still piling on the pressure, but the Toffees finally clear.
United visit Goodison first game after the International break
Thanks for the clarification, Bob. I remember them saying that one of the sides was without a Merseysider since 1984. I guess I heard the wrong team. Isn't Hampshire close?
Very scrappy all of a sudden. Martin Atkinson has his work cut out for him today.
"Two Robbies in the studio" and neither of them is Robbie Fowler. Shame.
Interesting, UWS. We resumed the last break with a match against a team from Merseyside.
Agreed Bob. It's a typical Mersey Derby. Agreed with you about Robbie Fowler. He should do the crawl in the studio.
Charlton pull one back vs Fulham late on as they trail 1-2.
Nope - Hampshire is on the south coast.
Everton not getting the ball to the magic foot of Deulofeu. Trying to play through the middle and that tactic is not working.
Celtic are 1-2 up at Hamilton in the second half as they attempt to catch Aberdeen at the top of the SPL.
Martin Skrtel is down and needs some treatment on an injury of some sort. The ball is knocked out of play. A lull.
Skrtel is down for Pool . That would be a huge loss for Pool if he has to be replaced.
LOL, Bob. I was Arseing ahead of the late match.
Board meeting last night at the Bridge declaring Jose's job is safe
Is that right? So Jose wins the "Vote of Confidence" contest? Not sure that anyone picked him for that one.
Titus Browning is called for a foul on Milner, who slipped. The free kick last came off of Skrtel for a goal kick
Milner slips and Atkinson calls Browning on the non-existant foul. Here we go.
He does. I doubt anyone picked him. He sure seems to be doing his level best to win the sack race though. That rant was elevated to the next level, even by his standards.
Desmond at the Valley in the London derby
Nope - no one chose Mourinho for that category. Steve McClaren was by far the favorite.
Great defending by Barry on Clyne off a nice lofted pass.
Oh - great ball in from Coutinho but the angle was too tight for Milner. Good stop by Timmy.
I knew this would happen... all Pool when everyone was on the Blue bandwagon
Timmy pushes a shot from, Milner into the side netting off a superb pass from Coutinho Sakho heads over from the corner.
Barry with some good coverage on Sturridge then Howard with a leg save on Milner at close range. visitors with the definite edge most of the half.
Did you see this??
http://digg.com/video/barcelona-neymar-goal-line-free-kick
Now then, Everton have a free kick after Barkley is upended.
Barkley was fouled because players CAN Not do thos e challenges.
Oh - great ball in from Barkley and Naismith was in with a header. Good save by Mignolet.
Naismith with a header and great save by Mini... either side of him and it would have been in
Superb relex save by Minnie off a header from Naismith from a superb free kick from Barkley.
Take a look at that link
Scottish Messi point blank but Mignolet swats it away.
That was Everton's first attempt of the match after total domination by the red half.
Just looked at the clip. Incredible! Honestly, it looks as if the coat of paint on the goal line keeps the ball out.
Wembley Stadium is on CBS right now
The Jets and Dolphins about to rip of the Wembley turf
Why do they play games a week before an international match!!!!
Better from Everton now. And Someone is right that Delafeu has been at the center of it.
Minnie superbly turns around a first time shot from McCArthy off a poor clearance from Lucas. The corner from Barkley is cleared.
I have the video from the normal angle and Pique didn't score the rebound!!!
A hard shot from McCarthy is knocked aside. Everton showing better. Good things are happening.
At least it's not the Horse the Year Show, eh UWS?
At least it's not the Horse the Year Show, eh UWS?
That is horrible. Fortunately for England, they have already qualified and are playing weak opposition on Columbus Day
What was in your morning coffee, Bob. A triple comment! WOW! You're up for this match.
It finished Desmond between Charlton and Fulham. Jordan Cousins tied it up in the sixth minute of stoppage time. Is he related to Robin?
Bit of argybargy now between Can and Barkley. What will Atkinson do?
Barkley and Can flashing handbags.
The first dispute of the match and as expected Can is at the center of it.He and Barkley were in the center of it . Martin Atkinson diffuses it.
Yellow cards all round.
Both are booked.
My LOB stutter is back with a vengeance.
Timmy clears from the on rushing Ings for Pool's fifth corner of the match
I'm not a fan of Barkley
He kind of reminds me of Rooney... not too smart and a thug
Can over with an attempted bicycle kick and caught Barry.
well done, Bob.
Another break in play as Barry is on the turf.
Barkley and Roon both have Everton in common.
What does the Commish say if a manager leaves with 'mutual consent'?
Remember, Tony picked the Sunderland boss too... of course he put down Steve Bruce... what a numpty
Oh - great move from Liverpool. Sturrridge found Coutinho well and Coutinho got to the by-line.
Jags clears a pass from Coutinho for Pool's sixth corner. It's taken short and Milner crosses to Skrtel , who heads straight to Timmy.
Jagielka making plays. Showing why he has the armband.
I think we probably need to wait for the first actual sacking and not one that's "by mutual consent."
I think we have counted those as sackings in the past. I think we had a someone pick up the points via that method in the past.
Sturridge is wide open and is pissed.... would he have passed it?
GOAL... Ings with a goal on his Merseyside derby debut
GOAL !!!! DANNY INGS HEADS IN THE CORNER FROM MILNER.
Sturridge is livid as Ings had a chance to play him in and didn't get his head up.
And GOAL! Ings knocks home Liverpool's opener from the corner! Free header!
ings for the visitors. freaking set piece.
The only Merseysider on the pitch scores and Bob will be pleased to see how the LUFC Academy training is applied in a match
A deserved lead for Pool , who have dominated the first half.,
Another corner for Pool. Taken short and eventually cleared.
Three minutes of stoppage time.
Three minutes of stoppage time to come.
ALL SQUARE!!!!
GOAL! The Chunk equalizes on the stroke of half-time!
GOAL !!!! A CHUNK WAS TAKEN OUT OF POOL'S LEAD IN STOPPAGE TIME.
Delafeu put a great ball in but what a hash Can makes of the clearance. Straight into his partner Skrtel and then Lukaku had a free chance.
Big Rom levels it from the magic foot of Deulofeu.
The Toffees showed what CAN be done if you are gifted a chance . Delafeu went on a run down the right and Can cleared straight to the Chunk , who scored with a great finish past fellow Belgian, Minnie.
Ht with two goals late
It's 1-1 at the half of an enthralling Mersey Derby. The goals were poor with one coming from a free header from a corner and one from a miss hit clearance that was a gift
Celtic win at Hamilton, are one point behind the Dons.
What's wrong at Sunderland?
Sunderland
Posted at 14:22
"The average reign of Sunderland's last seven full-time managers comes to a grand total of 44 games - hardly a tale of stability and continuity."
When are Leeds going to bring in ex-player Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to Elland Road.
He's flying high with Burton Albion in League 1
Hey, he's an ex-Blue too, could be going to the Bridge!
The teams are back on to the pitch , strangely to music from ELO. That's a Second City theme, not a Mersey theme.
The second half is underway
Agreed, UWS. I mentioned that to Bob yesterday. He wants to Uwe some time for the reasons you just mentioned about the Black Cats
We're back on at Goodison.
Naismith wins a corner d,doing the Can Can. Titus Browning was not far off with a header from a corner from Barkley
I do want to give Uwe some time to prove himself; we've done enough chopping and changing in recent years.
Celtic have one 1-2 at nearby Hamilton and head into the break one point behind Aberdeen.
Browning close on the header. Everton showing some pep early in the half.
Agreed. I think 44 matches at the SOL is stability compared to ER. Sorry mate.
That late equalizer gave them a lift. A win vs the Reds combined with the Hoops win would be a great start to the day for you.
I've got the Bills/Giants later too. Big day of sportball.
Excellent time for me to do the weekly shopping at Tops.
You got it Bob!
Naughty by Barkley on Skrtel.
Wembley and the Emirates isn't too far away from each other, are they?
Two big crowds
LETS GO GIANTS!!
Tops... I remember that from Cortland
They mentioned that match on " Everyone loves Raymond" last night. Coincidence?
Not sure that the NFL draws that well at Wembley, does it?
Bob will be pleased to see one added to the LUFC Academy factor as the wee Beatle is about to come on in the hometown of the Beatles.
LUFC Academy about to enter the contest.
I'm not sure about that one.
Lennon set to come on. Replacing Geri?
I think it does because. I see some of the seats are covered with tarp but I think because they are too low because the sidelines are filled with 100 people
Other leagues are copying the Prem with the me of big matches today, or at least by their standards. There is the Madrid Derby later today, Bayern vs Dortmund , and Ajax vs PSV
Wemberlee looks full
Each side now has an LUFC Academy player as the wee Beatle is on for Delafeu.
Will it be full on Columbus Day?
A change of balls as Martin Atkinson did not like the state of the current ball being used.
I suppose it's like Coors Light being sold in English pubs. Inexplicable but just an American thing that seems cool.
Nice turn by Barkley and his pass is cut out by Skrtel for a corner. The corner is well overcooked.
Barkley showing a couple of moves there to get a corner, that went long.
Agreed Bob. Spot on.
Moreno wins a corner off of Browning.,
Jags heads away the corner from Milner.
England's last two games
They play at home on Friday against Estonia and away at Lithuania on Columbus Day
Milner picks up a yellow for a chop on McCarthy.
McCarthy is booked for a foul from behind on Milner.
Even if they don't rip up the turf the damn grass paint from the end zone and the yard lines will show!!
Just wide by Barkley from long range
I should be around for the first half of the Friday match and the entire match on Columbus Day.
And Barkley once again overestimates his magnificence by taking a shot instead of passing.
It won't be ready for Friday
Hope the games are on the TV
I won't be around for the start of the Friday
Lucas is booked for a rash challenge on Barkley
Mike just sent me a picture of him and Phil(writer of Torn, guitar player for Cure, lead singer of Johnny Hates Jazz and Lisa's brother-in-law) having a prematch cuppa at the Em
I asked him to pass a message on from me
U-NI-TED
I would imagine that Fox is televising the matches. If not then there's Foxsoccer2go.
The Chunk blasts a shot straight fellow Belgian, Minnie.
well done, UWS. I would love to see a photo.
Lukaku's quick shot stopped by Mignolet. Seconds later the Belgian leaps only to be taken down by Sakho. The excitement builds.
Timmy beats away a shot from Cutinho, who went on a nice solo run./
Now McCarthy is down.
Mike is a lucky, lucky boy.
I'll probably be watching the Friday matches from work on Fox Soccer 2 Go.
Now Pool are without a Merseysider on the pitch as Lallana is on for Danny Ings.
I will watch the first half. I have class during the second half.
Not much at stake, I suppose.
Milner heads wide off the cross from Moreno. That was not one of his strengths at the LUFC Academy.
That is true for both England matches.
Lucas gets a yellow for a trip on McCarthy.
Lucas avoids the second yellow. Looks like Kone getting ready to come in for Everton.
