I'm getting ready for a brunch with Fredonia friends this morning, so I'll be in and out a bit. Sorry about that.
Sunderland now have to be favorites for Premiership survival. They’re 18th now but Sam Allardyce is a survival expert, they’ve got a game in hand on Norwich and two on Newcastle, and their fixtures look the kindest on paper.
That said, they'll be happy to pick up any points from today.
Good morning mate. I'm here to join you on this crazy day
Teams in the tunnel at the Stadium of Light now:
Sunderland: Mannone; Yedlin, Kone, Kaboul, Van Aanholt;
Kirchhoff; Borini, Cattermole, M’Vila, Khazri; Defoe. Subs:
Jones, Larsson, Rodwell, N’Doye, Pickford, O’Shea, Watmore.
Arsenal: Cech; Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal; Ramsey, Elneny; Sanchez, Ozil, Iwobi; Giroud. Subs: Gabriel, Wilshere, Ospina, Walcott, Welbeck, Campbell, Coquelin.
Referee: Mike Dean (Wirral)
Morning, MUR - great to have you board for the craziness.
How was your Saturday evening?
Thanks, mate.It was sort of busy. I took Elizabeth back to her parents and then I took it easy because I was tired. How was yours?
They're off from the SOL
The Black Cats get us underway. Is Fred in attendance for this survival battle?
I went to see the new Michael Moore film with a friend. Good night out.
Borini is fouled by Nacho
The free kick from Khazri is headed out
Fred just came out and is now joining me.
Iwobi with the first real chance of the match, after a neat one-two with Alexis. Blasts wide.
OH!!! A long range effort from Iwobi is inches wide. Mannone, the former Gunners Academy player , was beaten
Good for Fred - Sunderland new all of the support they can get. Corner for them now....
Dafoe wins a corner after Cech punched away a long ball.. It's taken short. Not typical of a Fat Sam side.
Fred is giving himself a bath. He should have done that once he finished brekkies.
Sorry about the result at RFK yesterday
Not quite up to the pace of the match yet, Fred, eh?
I didn't expect much from the Revvies.
My beloved purples are away to the Red Balls this evening. It's on either FS1 or FS2
Oh - free header for Mert. But he directed it straight at Mannone.
Merte heads a corner from Ozil straight to Mannonne
Best of luck to them.
Cheers mate. I think I may watch the match. I will make sure sparky has his had his evening walkies.
Mvila is wide with an ambitious long range effort . Was it meant to be a cross?
Oh - Koz gave up the ball in a precarious position there. Not a good sign for the Gunners.
Khazri was alert to as Gunner's throw, nicked in to steal the ball then had a long range effort deflected for a corner. Khazri takes the corner that is headed away and Cattermole is wide with a decent long range effort.
Sunderland are improving after a nervy start.
Some relegation issues were decided yesterday. The Fake Dons clinched relegation, so all three relegation spots have been decided in the Championship. Dick York was relegated to the Conference yesterday, so both relegation spots have been decided in L2. Cheltenham have clinched promotion back to L2 after being relegated from there last season
The Gunners look more nervous than the Black Cats. Fred is napping.
Kos fouls Dafoe just outside the D. Not very smart
Oh - off the angle from Van Arnault.
Van Arnholt curls the free kick off the outside of the post and it's out for a goal kick. Nearly Cech mate, mate.
Boom boom!
Cheers,mate
Kaboul tackles Ozil for a corner.
The corner from Ozil is headed out
Sunderland have successfully fended up the offensive challenge of Arsenal. That's at least a start.
I agree. The Gooner, dad , and Simon will not be pleased.
Good move from the Arse ending with a tame effort from Ozil.
Better from the Gunners as they break and Mannone saves a deflected effort from Ozil
Cattermole is called for a foul on El Neny, who was looking for that. He sure didn't walk like an Egyptian
Mannone surpebly saves the free kick from Alexis then the rebound from Giroud is blocked for a corner.
Massive scramble in the Sunderland box - how did that not go in?
Another great save from Mannone from the corner from a close range header at the far post then a couple of goal line blocks before the Black Cats kadoomph it away
I'm sure the Gooner is asking the same.
Dafoe has a close range effort blocked and wants a penalty for hand ball. It looked a hand ball by Merte.,
Big shout for a penalty - I see that as ball to hand rather than Hand to ball.
Merte goes to the other end of the pitch and heads wide from a corner.
Kate has decided that she doesn't like Fat Sam Allardyce. When I asked why, she said that he "looks like he would be a terrible Husband." LOL!
Horrible cross by Yedlin, who looked more like Yeltsin. Great tackle by Khazri.
Kate is probably correct. I concur.
Ramsey was booked for an earlier infraction.
Now another big penalty shout at the other end. Handball on Yedlin?
Iwobi has a close range effort blocked by what looked like Yeltsin
Yeltsin heads out a cross from Iwobi for a corner.
The corner from Ozil is headed out
Dafoe concedes a free kick. The free kick from Ozil is headed out by Cattermol;e as there is a minute of stoppage time.
It's 0-0 at the half. Lots of commitment, but little quality
The second half is underway from the SOL.
Bellerin is booked for a foul on Khazri.
Great save by Cech from Dafoe off a long clearance from Kirchoff, then Cech turns around the rebound from Mvila. The corner is cleared
Cech turns around a long range effort from Khazri as the Black Cats pile on the pressure.
I'm back from the shower and see that it's still 0-0 in the second half. Sunderland would definitely take a point now.
Getting some sausages together to bring to the brunch.
A horrible miss from Iwobi as Mannone was out of position . The volley went horizontally instead of goalward.
Welcome back, mate. Squeaky clean and prepared , just like a great football team.
Borini is booked for late challenge on Iwobi
Yet another Black Cat into the book - that's what Sam has put them out to do.
That's what I'm all about.
The Black Cats had two good chances just before you came. They have done a fair amount of attacking today
A corner from Ozil is headed out and Ramsey slices a volley well wide.
Yeah - I'm probably not being completely fair to them. Will Fred forgive me? How about if I opened up a tin of tuna for him?
Do you think that Arsene will survive the summer at Arsenal?
A chip from Dafoe is just wide.
I think Fred will. It's understandable based on past reputation
I think Arsene will be around. He will only leave if he chooses to resign
I think he might feel a good deal of pressure. This is yet another season without silverware. In the past ten years or so, they've only won the two cups.
Oh - Defoe blew a huge chance to play Borini in there.
Defoe wins a corner off a nice long ball.
Kone misses the header from a great corner.
I think Arsene will stay because he's untouchable and the board may run the risk of Arsenal declining like United did when SAF retired. At least they know they will be an annual CL team
Ramsey wins a corner off of Yeltsin. The corner is headed away by Kone
Arsenal don't seem especially arsed about winning this one. Here come Welly and Theo, though, to the rescue.
A double substitution for the Gunners. Theo for Iwobi and Wellie for Giroud. Almost like for like, but probably fresh legs more than anything else.
Naughty by Yelstsin on El Neny, who was prevented from walking like an Egyptian
Celtic have taken the lead vs Ross County and Hamilton take the lead at Dundee United. A win would leave the Hoops a win away from clinching the title while a loss for the Tangerines would mean that the best they could do is a relegation playoff spot.
Duncan Whatmore is on for Borini. he's more direct.
I'm not sure that "walking like an Egyptian" is legal at the Stadium of Light.
El Neny booked for a foul from behind on Mvila. Was that Jay walking like an Egyptian?
Jan Kirchoff is replaced by former Gunner, Seb Larsson
It might be because El Mohammedy was a right back for the Black Cats
Citeh vs the Gunners is being played a fortnight from today. That should be a crucial fixture.
Great defending by Kaboul, who bailed out Mannone, who was caught out of position for the second time this half.
I'm sure the Gooner and your dad must be frustrated.
A long range effort from Wellie is straight to Mannone
The final roll of the dice from Arsene is a huge gamble as Jack Wilshere is on for his first gunners first team appearance of the season , in place of Ozil
Mannone makes a great save from Alexis, then the rebound is cleared off a long Gunners possession.
The Black Cats win a late corner
Four minutes of stoppage time.
Kaboul snacks on some Nachos for a corner
The corner from Khazri is headed out and Kone is over with a bicycle. kick
Kos fouls Whatmore about thirty yards out
Khazri is booked for fouling Wilshere on the break
It finishes 0-0 at the SOL. The Black Cats move out of the drop zone, ahead of the Canaries on goal difference. The Gunners remain in fourth, behind Citeh on goal difference
Sorry to abandon you during that last bit of the match. 0-0 draw in the end. Works to Sunderland's advantage, really. That gets them out of the drop zone, at least temporarily. Norwich drop back in. Arsenal stay in fourth for this week.
The sausages are ready to roll and we're heading off to the brunch. Over and out for me, today, mate.
Next on NBCSN is The Foxes vs the Swans while I'm watching the Cup semi between Palace and Watford on Gooner's link so that I don't have to listen to the idiots in the Fox studio.
Cheers mate. Have a great day
GOAL !!!! BOLASSIE HEADS PALACE INTO THE LEAD WITH A FREE HEADER AT THE FAR POST AS A CORNER WAS HEADED ON.
The corner from Cabaye was headed on by Delaney
An incredible atmosphere at the KP as the teams are out on the pitch
They're off from the KP
GOAL !!! THE FOXES TAKE THE LEAD THROUGH MAHREZ THANKS TO A HORRIBLE DEFENSIVE ERROR FROM ASHLEY WILLIAMS
An unusual error from Ashley Williams , who basically passed to Mahrez , who then cut inside Williams and beat Flappy with a great finish
Capoue is down injured for the Hornets and it looks like he will have to be replaced.
Capoue is down again
Mario Suarez is on for Capoue, who was stretchered off.
GOAL !!!!LEO ULLOA HEADS IN A FREE KICK TO PUT THE FOXES TWO UP.
A superb free kick from Danny Drinkwater and Ulloa superbly placed the header.
While the Foxes were scoring, Palace should have had a penalty as Ake handled in the box
Fernandez heads a free kick from Siggy inches over.
Palace is one up at the half
Kasper does well tot turn around a deflected free kick from Siggy
The Foxes are two up at the half
While I was taking Sparky walkies , Watford scored to make it 1-1
GOAL !!! CONNOR BLOODY WHICKHAM HAS HEADED PALACE INTO A 2-1 LEAD.
GOAL !!! LEO ULLOA PUTS THE FOXES THREE UP OFF A SOLO RUN AND FLUFFED CHANCE BY SCHLUPP. A LONG CLERANCE BY KAPSER SAW SCHLUPP GO ON A SOLO RUN OFF AN ERROR BY ANGEL RNAGEL AND HIS MISS HIT SHOT /[ASS WAS PUYT AWAY AT THE FAR POST BY ULLOA
Now the Foxes are three up with about a half hour remaining. If this result holds then the Foxes are a mere five points from clinching the title.
Fernandez is booked for a foul on Mahrez just outside the box off a chipped pass from Danny Drinkwater
Flappy superbly turns around a long range effort from Schlupp
Damari Gray is on for Okozaki
Ayew heads a corner from Ki just wide with a free header at the far post
Andy King is on for Leo Ulloa as there are five minutes if stoppage time at Wemberley
Mahrez does well to put Andy King through on the break and forced a great save from Flappy, but his shot lacked power. A poor clearance gave him another chance that he shot just high and wide.
The final roll of the dice from Claudio as Marc Albrighton is on for Schlupp.
GOAL !!!! MARC ALBRIGHTON SCORES MINUTES AFTER COMING OFF THE BENCH . A GREAT SOLO RUN DOW THE RIGHT BY DAMARI GRAY . HIS CROSS WAS HEADED ACROSS THE GOAL BY ANDY KING AND FLAPPY FORCED A GREAT SAVE BY GRAY. THEN ALBBRIGHTON SMASHED HOME THE REBOUND TO PUT THE FOXES FOUR UP.
It's over at Wemberley and Palace have defeated the Hornets 2-1 and will face United in a repeat of the 1990 Final, their only other Cup Final appearance. Bob will not be pleased that Connor Bloody Whickham scored the winner.
It's over at the KP and the Foxes thrash the Swans 4-0. The Foxes are just two wins from clinching the title. That's it for me.
CHEERS!
