Leicester on the Brink
Leicester City are on the brink of doing something no football fan thought possible at the beginning of the season. Claudio Ranieri has taken a relegation threatened side and turned them into likely champions. This morning, they take on third-bottom Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Immediately following that, we've got second-place Spurs hosting fifth-place United. A lot can happen in the space of one morning in the Premiership. Make sure to join me for all of it.

Good morning, mate. Fred and I are here to join you as he paces nervously around my desk.
Morning, mate - I'm really grateful to have you on board. I hope you're settling back in at home after your trip.
Teams in the tunnel at the SoL:
Sunderland: Mannone, Yedlin, Koné, Kaboul, Van Aanholt, Kirchhoff, Borini, Cattermole, M’Vila, Khazri, Defoe. Subs: Jones, Larsson, Rodwell, N’Doye, Pickford, O’Shea, Lens.
Leicester: Schmeichel, Simpson, Morgan, Huth, Fuchs, Mahrez, Drinkwater, Kanté, Albrighton, Okazaki, Vardy. Subs: King, Amartey, Gray, Ulloa, Dyer, Chilwell, Schwarzer.
Referee: Anthony Taylor.
Looks like a gorgeous day in the Northeast. The main stand is casting a big shadow over the pitch.
Peter Drury and Jim Beglin on the microphone this afternoon. The Black Cats about to get us started here.
They're off from the sunny SO amidst a cracking atmosphere
Peter Drury points out that Leicester could either be 10 points of 4 points ahead by the end of the day.
Kaboul heads out a cross from Vardy for a Foxes corner.
Early corner for Leicester - they look up for it.
Okozaki heads over from the corner
I think the match vs the Canaries next weekend may be important to the Black Cats than this one.
Vardy was nearly in there but for the intervention of Kaboul.
An ambitious effort from Kante.
Kante volleys straight to Mannone after a throw from Fuchs was headed away
Lots of early pressure from the Foxes.
It's great to be back , but just as I thought this week couldn't get any worse, my car broke down on the expressway as I was driving Elizabeth to her parents house because her mom's cancer has returned.
Oh - Huth nearly got to that Albrighton free kick.
Oh, damn. I hope that's nothing serious for you.
The Black Cats struggle to clear a Foxes free kick until a world class tackle from Khazri
Sorry to say, but both are. We're looking at having to buy a car when least expected and six months of chemo for my mother-in-law.
I'm confused. Drury says that Leicester's bid of the CL next year is complicated by Citeh and Liverpool's run in the Cup. How could it be? I thought that the CL qualification was simply the top four and nothing else.
Well, please pass my best on to Elizabeth during this difficult time. Cancer is a terrible disease, isn't it?
Drink water and Cattermole in a bit of a clash there, limping away now.
I'm not sure, mate. Citeh and Pool would qualify for the CL if they win the CL and EL respectively, but that's independent of the Foxes run.
That will be an interesting battle in the center of the park as Vardy heads wide,
First half chance for Vardy. Put the header over. He's gone six games since scoring. Things have dried up a bit for him this spring.
Ah - I see. That makes sense.
Okozaki has a pass cleared for a corner by Kaboul on a Foxes break
Wes Morgan heads wide from a corner from Fuchs
Borini has the thankless task of playing up front by himself, lacking support.
I appreciate your support during this difficult time. I will inform Elizabeth. You are spot on about cancer.
Dafoe is playing up front with Borini. It just doesn't seem that way because the Black Cats have been pegged back
Jim Beglin says that if a team plays 4-4-2 then the defensive midfielders have got to be really good. Why? Haven't teams played a 4-4-2 for years?
Is it me or does it seem like the home is getting some stick from their fans?
You're right. Ballhog Jermain hasn't had a sniff yet.
I think it seems to be more about the tactics and less about the football. I agree with you.
Borini is booked for a foul on Fuchs as he is obviously frustrated.
Black Cats players want a card for Huth for a foul on Dafoe. I don't like to see that
The pass from Mvila to Khazri was just inches too far.
Okozaki wins a corner off of Kaboul.
The corner from Albirghton is headed away
Sunderland have been solid at the back - no great chances for the Leicester City forwards yet.
Okazaki tumbled in the back but the ref is having none of it. Yedlin did nothing wrong.
Kone clears a cross for another Foxes corner.
Agreed, mate
Drinkwater volleys the corner from Albrighton into Row M
Fuchs will pick up a yellow card for that rash one on Borini.
Fuchs booked for a an overly enthusiastic challenge on Borini
Kaboul heads just over from a cross from Borini off a short free kick from Yedlin
Hand ball bu Huth or ball to hand?
I reckon ball to hand - he was going to ground and didn't know a lot about it.
Borini is down after a clash of heads with Fuchs and looking a little concussed.
Agreed. I was thinking the same.
What do you think of Fred's approach to this match? Sort of philosophical?
Yedlin fouls Albrighton on a Foxes break.
Mahrez has a shot blocked as the Black Cats break then the Foxes until a great block by Van Arnholt into three minutes of stoppage time.
Great save by Kasper from Borini. The best chance of this match
Great save from Kasper from Borini. A deflected effort that made it harder for him.
A furious end to the half here.
Kaboul heads out for a Foxes corner.
It's 0-0 at the end of a fairly even half . Lots of enthusiasm, but a little short on quality.
Half-time - Well Fat Sam haven't made it easy for Leicester. They're not just going to lie down and allow the Foxes to keep rolling along.
The second half is underway from the SOL.
We're back on at the SoL - Leicester getting us underway.
Peter Drury muses that the first goal could be the only goal. I think he's right about that. It's been very tight.
Borini wins an early corner.
Agreed with your assessment , mate. It's going top be a tense half.
Borini has a shot deflected for another corner that was cleared.
A long range effort from Yedlin was high and wide.
I had a feeling going into this one that Sunderland could get something off Leicester here.
Oh - Borini blazes over again. He really needed to get that on target.
Borini has a shot go high and wide off a blocked shot from Dafoe.
Okazaki shoots over off a pass from Kante
This isn't much different from some of the matches where the Foxes have won it on the break.
Oh - Drinkwater was nearly in there but Mannone smothered it.
Vardy puts in a great cross on the break and Drinkwater fails to control, allowing Mannone to gather
It's interesting that as they've gotten closer to realizing their dream, they've tightened up. They've been winning ugly as most champions do in the end.
Albirghton wins a corner off of Yedlin
The corner from Albrighton is headed away
Spot on. This run in reminds me of how United won titles.
Mannone easily saves from Drinkwater after a run and pass from Mahrez.
A tad naughty by Van Arnholt on Mahrez
Leo Ulloa is on for Okozaki as has been the norm the second half of the season
GOAL !!!!! VARDY PUTS THE FOXES IN THE LEAD ON THE BREAK WITH A GREAT FINISH OFF A WORLD CLASS LONG BALL FROM DRINKWATER
I called it at 9:41, mate.It will be hard for the Black Cats to come back from this.
A double switch by Fat Sam Rodwell is on for Mvila and NDoye is on for Khazri. It looks like the Black Cats are now going with three strikers with Borini just behind the front two.
The travelling Foxes fans are making themselves heard
Mahrez with a solo run on the break off a tackle fro Kante , but passed when he should have shot
The Foxes fans with a classic chants of " Are You Watching , Nottingham?"
The final roll of the dice for Fat Sam as the hard working Borini is replaced by the visionary Jermaine Lens.
Mannone saves a deflected effort from Albrighton.
Van Arnholt with a horrible miss control at the far post.
Hey boys
I have no access on the computer today. I'll try and comment some on my phone but it is annoying
Miles wide by Dafoe
Damari Gray, the wildcard , is on for Mahrez.
God morning, UWS. Hopefully you will be around for the action.
OH!!!! Jack Rodwell misses a sitter as he shot over with just Kasper to beat
What a miss by Rodwell. What the hell happened to him since he left Goodison
Kick off at WHL delayed by at least 15 min
Great block by Mannone from Ulloa as he was put through by Kante, who started the counter with a superb tackle.
Danile Ammaerty is on for Albrighton on the final roll of the dice for Caludio
Hate these slow walk offs subbing
Agreed about Rodwell. I think he's been affected by injury. Is the delay police enforced?
Agreed. It's really annoying.
UPDATE: Kick-off is DELAYED until 4.15pm as the @ManUtd team bus is stuck in traffic.
Rodwell was all the rage like Barkley
Don't rate either of them
What do you say about my text yesterday about Carroll on the plane
An absolute plan b for Roy to use
Defenders would be crapping themselves
Black Cats fans look resigned to their fate
Great save by Mannone from Vardy off a pass from Drinkwater as we enter five minutes of stoppage time.
Thanks for the update. I'm not sure if Andy Carroll will be in the England squad. Will he even be fit . I see him as someone possibly on standby and it all depends upon his form in the remaining matches.,
Great save by Mannone from Amaerty off a superb pass from Vardy
Should have been two!!!
GOAL !!!!! VARDY SEALS IT AS HE CAUGHT THE BLACK CATS CHASING THE GAME. HE SKIPPED PAST MANNONE AND SHOT INTO AN EMPTY NET
TEN POINTS CLEAR
It's now two.
Three wins away if Spurs are perfect
It's over as the Foxes win 0-2 at the SOL. Just three matches from clinching the title. It could be clinched at OT.
United could play the roll of spoiler.
Love NBC
Fox would have gone to commercial as the whistle blew
NBC still there
Well done
NBC showing the Anfield match until it starts in London
Again, bravo
Off for walkies
Morning, UWS - we're back from picking up some fresh bagels at a very hipster farmer's market here in Alexandria. I'm not sued to that thing; I'm just a simple Western New Yorker.
Gooner is commenting that United have parked the bus before the match has even started!
Boom boom!!
The extra coverage of Liverpool v. Stoke has started ahead of the big match.
Hiya Bob
Back from a chilly wind walkies
Steve sadly isn't joking
That's what LVG has done to my beloved
One nil Pool
Nice hit
Sparky will be furious how stoke fell asleep
From the Beeb
Going nowhere. Fast.
Tottenham v Man Utd (16:30 BST)
Posted at 11:03
Going around in circles, growing frustrated, not getting to where they need to - Manchester United fans will know that feeling...
I'm back from walking Sparky and taking Jacquelyn to sunday school to see that Liverpool are one up vs the Potters
Liverpool take the lead through Moreno.
How were your walkies, boys?
RUDDY NORAH!! The match has been delayed until 4:30 PM . A half an hour late
Chilly
Good walkies and good driving in an LUFC colored pickup truck
Comfortable with a nice breeze here.
Bardsley wins a corner off of Kolo off a nice run
Shame. Firmino streaked away with it but then couldn't find a teammate.
Pool break off the corner from Firmino, but the pass is awful
Chilly but sunny here in DC as well.
Is the "traffic jam" an evil conspiracy by the Spuds fans?
Handball by Rod Stewart off a pass from Crouchie on his return to Anfield.
Leicester could be champions by next Monday!!
If Spurs lose today, the most they could get is 77
If Leicester win at home to west ham on Sunday they will have 75
Spurs lose at stoke and it is over
LVG won't have time to talk of his philosophy before kick off
It will help the players
Why was the Nationals game postponed yesterday?
Why are you in DC?
Skrtel fouls old mate, Crouchie
GOAL! Bojan responds and Stoke are level!
This could be a boring end to the season
Norwich beat Sunderland next week at CR and they would be almost down
Liverpool are tragic at the back. The smallest man on the pitch nips in for a free header in the box.
GOAL !!!! BOJAN TIES IT UP FOR STOKE. THE SHORTEST MAN ON THE PITCH HAD A FREE HEADER OFF A GREAT FREE KICK FROM sHAQUIRI
1-1
Great free kick
Great header
How is that type of cross defended
Agreed. United could be spoilers. Wouldn't it be ironic if the Foxes clinch the title at OT?
Decent cross by Pool
Are you watching United when you get a good cross in
Moreno, the scorer for Pool , fouls Shaquiri , the assister for Stoke, on the break
If they win, surely they will get trophy at home to Everton and not at the Bridge
Klopp and Sparky having words
Pieters booked for a foul on Origi on the break as the teams head out of the tunnel at SFL.
Off to WHL
The teams are in the tunnel as NBC Sports switches over. Marvelous coverage as usual:
Tottenham: Lloris; Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Dier, Dembele; Lamela, Eriksen, Alli; Kane. Subs: Vorm, Son, Mason, Trippier, Chadli, Wimmer, Carroll.
Manchester United: De Gea; Fosu-Mensah, Smalling, Blind, Rojo; Schneiderlin, Carrick, Mata, Lingard, Martial; Rashford. Subs: Romero, Darmian, Valencia, Young, Fellaini, Herrera, Memphis.
Referee: Mike Dean.
Klopp needs to shut it.
I predict that the Foxes will clinch the trophy at OT in three weeks. They should be allowed to lift it in the final home match instead of at the Bridge on the last day
Answer my few questions BD
United have not lost at WHL since 2000 I think
It should be a competitive match at SFL.
United wearing their traditional shirts and not change just to change
They're off from SFL.
Still on my phone btw
Sorry, mate - I missed your question. I'm in DC for the American Educational Research Association conference. I had a presentation yesterday afternoon and then went out for drinks with the DC United boys after their 4-0 win over Vancouver yesterday. Good night out.
Was that a 3-1 loss on Boxing Day when Chris Armstrong scored a couple?
United almost get it into the box but decide it's too early and go backwards and sideways instead
My beloved Orlando City lost their first match of the season on Friday. Lost to a last minute free kick
Not sure why the Nats were postponed. I'll ask the Gooner.
Pool 2-1
Sturridge
Orlando City are doing well, though. Kaka has been a good addition to the league.
Danny Sturridge gives Pool a 2-1 lead.
Sounds like a fun time
When are you taking your mother in law to Saratoga?
Agreed. He ran the show like Cruyff when I watched the Purples in action
Gooner says that the Nats game was postponed because of the "wintry mix" that DC was experiencing last night. Bunch of poofs.
I'd love to - when would you like us to come out?
I wonder if LVG will have United park the bus to thwart the threat of Harry Kane Deli Alli Sandwich
I agree with the Gooner. Not a valid excuse to postpone a match. We played in those conditions and it didn't affect us.
A scrappy affair so far. I wouldn't be surprised by a draw today.
Yeah - and DC played out a 4-0 win yesterday evening.
I have a Thornallley clan coming late Jully into August
A solo run by Fosu-Mensa and he has a shot blocked for a corner.
The corner leads to another.
No one on United attacks the ball in the box ever
Bloody short corners
Congrats to DC United and a great summer in store for UWS.
'You nearly won the league' is the chant from Manchester United fans aimed at Spurs fans.United fans at the Lane
67% possession by United is not a good stat
Not one shot on goal!!!
Foul throws by Rojo
You're a bloody professional
Smalling clears a pass from Danny Rose for a corner.
Honestly, that should be a club fine.
That sounds like a good time with the family.
Another atrocious cross by United
Where is Coppell Hill Kanchelskis Thomas Beckham Giigs
A superb close range save by De Gea from Harry Kane off a superb cross from Lamela. The offside flag was raised.
Offside but what a save by de Gea
Pool lead 2-1 at the half.
And yet you lot could easily squeeze into the CL slots if you get something today.
A great trip down memory lane as stated by UWS.
Fosu-Mensa wins a corner off of Danny Rose.
