A Rather Quiet Sunday Morning
With apologies to West Ham Rising, it's a bit of a snoozer this morning, the footer schedule. With only West Ham v. Soton on tap at 11am, I've had a chance to take a leisurely shower, have a read through the Sunday NYT and make some delicious strawberry pancakes for the missus. Now, I'm all set for this relegation dogfight. West Ham come in to this match third bottom; Soton aren't much better at 15th. The Hammers could leapfrog quite a few sides with a healthy win, sinking both Swansea and Burnley into the mire. Soton could rise into mid-table safety. We'll see what happens soon enough.

So West Ham, eh? It's never easy to move, as I can attest. So it’s not entirely surprising that West Ham have struggled at the, er, “London Stadium”. They needed late goals to see off Bournemouth and Accrington Stanley and lost to Astra Giurgiu and Watford, while supporters have also been taken time to, er, “settle in”. For all the branding and grandstanding, hype and hyperbole, they’re still rattling around an athletics venue that has very little to do with them.
The teams now out on the pitch at the London Stadium:
West Ham United (4-1-4-Zaza): Adrian; Nordveit, Ogobnna, Reid, Arbeloa; Noble; Antonio, Kouyate, Lanzini, Payet; Zaza.
Southampton (4-4-2 diamond): Forster; Soares, Van Dijk, Fonte, Bertrand; Romeu, Hojbjerg, Davis, Tadic; Redmond, Austin.
Teams out on the pitch now; fans blowing bubbles, as usual.
And we're away in this one. I fancy West Ham to stop the rot today. The crowd is definitely up for it.
Michail Antonio misses a sitter about six yards out center of gaol.
Jim Beglin says, "It's a nice stadium but give me Upton Park any day." I agree. It's particularly irritating to see the green tarp on the side covering up the athletics track. There's no pretending that this is a proper football stadium, lads.
Mark Noble appears to wearing short sleeves and gloves for some reason.
The away end is standing up in what looks like its entirety. Everyone seems to be having fun.
The commentator has just noted that the Hammers are playing extra "crowd noise" over the tannoy in order to augment the atmosphere. That's a disgrace!
West Ham can’t get out at the moment, though Southampton aren’t doing much more than pin them back. Things not clicking at the moment.
A very quiet match for a very quiet Sunday....
GOAL! First shot on goal - first goal. Charlie Austin bags his first goal for the Saints.
Half-time: The Hammers slink in 0-1 behind. Somehow they're not piping in the boos.
Hello Bob. I'm back from my to join you.
The second half is underway with the Saints one up at the Olympic Stadium
Feglhiou is on for Lanzini
I'm not sure why they're not sipping the boos. They're getting hammered.
A Saints break is halted by an injury to the coyote by Ryan Bertrand.
Both teams have surprising poor starts to the season.
The Saints look the more committed team to start the half. The Coyote is okay
The Hammers are hammering away at the Saints. Their ankles that is.
Fonte heads straight to Adrian off a cross by Hoivelt after a free kick from Tadic skimmed Van Dijjck's head
Adrian with a close range block from Redmond off a pass from Cedric then Tadic has a shot deflected for a corner that is cleared by the first man
Hammers fans are giving their players lots and lots of stick for losing every 50-50 challenge. I don't blame them
Mark Noble booked for an agricultural challenge on Hoijberg
Antonio is fouled just outside the box by Fonte.
The free kick from Payet is easily headed away
Zaza goes flopping down, looking for a penalty then throws a tantrum worse than any Zsa Zsa Gabor would then Forster punches away a cross for a corner. Zaza booked for the dive, not the Gabor like behavior.
Payet flopped down ,looking for a free kick a minute earlier. Poor by Hammers players and as Jim Beglin stated, a sign of desperation.
GOAL !!!TADIC PUTS THE SAINTS TWO UP . IT WAS FAR TOO EASY. HE PRACTICALLY WALKED THE BALL IN THE BACK OF THE NET.
More sloppy play from the Hammers as Coyote was dwelling on the ball. Steven Davis nicked it from him. Redmond passed to Charlie Austin, who made a cheeky pass to Tadic and he walked it around Adrian and slotted it into an empty net.
Jon Champion said that it's the Hammers new home, but they look like aliens from a foreign land. That's a perfect description.
Slaven with a look of helplessness, shaking his head
Just high and just wide by Steven Davis off a pass from Charlie Austin
Sarcastic applause for a booking for a foul by Van Dijck. The free kick is easily cleared away by Steven Davis. Now payet wins a Hammers corner.
Winston Reid heads wide from the corner from Payet
Steven Davis denied by a great block as it looked like he would put the Saints three up.
Ashley Fletcher, a twenty year old signed from Man Yoo, is on for Nordveit as Slaven puts on an extra attacker.,
Fehouli has a shot blocked for a corner after Payet had a shot blocked. Hammers players wanted a penalty for hand ball. They surround John Moss , but get just a corner. Arbeloa was booked. It looked a penalty
Just wide by Payet as the Hammers counter off a Saints counter.Better by the Hammers
Shane Long on for Charlie Austin, who had a goal and an assist
Redmond shoots straight at Adrian then the Hammers struggle to clear. Great pass from Tadic.
OH!!! Van Dijck clears off the line from Zaza,
A great Saints counter as Redmond found Shane Long and put Tadic through, but he was stopped by a last ditch tackle.
Winnie Reid is well wide with an ambitious long range effort. Hammers fans head for the exit
James Ward Prowse is on for Tadic
Winnie Reid is booked for a late challenge on Shane Long
Reid heads away the free kick from JWP
Hoijberg is just wide with a long range effort after a shot was blocked.
Edilmilson Fernandes, a cousin of former player Gelson Ferndes, is on for Mark Noble for a Prem debut
Late by Shane Long on Fheghouli
Adrian does well to push away a long range effort from JWP. The Saints continue to keep possession.
Adrian does well to turn a shot from Hoijberg off a pass from Romeu. somehow, a goal kick is given
Martina is on for Cedric in the final roll of the roulette wheel for Claude Puel.
Payet flops again, trying to win a free kick, but John Moss is having none of it. Payet talks himself into the book over it.
Fiove Hammers bookings, which may exceed the number of shots they ha don target this match. Really horrible as there are four extra minutes of stoppage time
GOAL !!!! ADDING INSULT TO INJURY AS JWP SCORES FROM CLOSE RANGE AS THE SAINTS PLAYERS WERE ABLE TO WALK THE BALL ON THAT POSSESSION.
A long possession culminated with a run down the left by Redmond, who passed to Long and a pass deflected off a Hammers player and JWP picked his shot, unmarked in the six yard box.
The Hammers win a corner, but there isn't time to take it and the remaining Hammers fans boo as the Saints easily win 0-3. During the handshake Slaven shows a lack of class, by giving Claude Puel a lecture. No need for that. He's not the ref.
That's it for me. A Monday classic as Burnley hosts Watford. CHEERS!
Sorry I missed you, mate. I went up to the local Wendy's to grab some lunch and they were having a right 'mare. Just got back in order to see the third Soton goal go in.
Have a nice rest of your weekend. Not sure I'll be around tomorrow - busy day at work.
