Chelsea v. Swansea Live!
Happy Sunday morning, lads. The Premiership weekend wraps up today with Chelsea trying to preserve their perfect record against Swansea City, who are hovering perilously just above the drop zone. Both sides picked up some interesting players during the frantic last days of the transfer window. It should be a fascinating encounter. Join me for all the fun here on the LOB!

Villa and Forest have just wrapped up a thrilling 2-2 draw, with Henry Lansbury equalizing in the waning moments for Villa. It also had the ludicrous sight of Nelson Pereira, who laid on the goal for Lansbury, seeing a second yellow for over celebrating in the crowd. If he'd done that in the Premier League, he'd have won that category of the PPP. Still waiting for that silly red or second yellow. Will Diego Costa give us that opportunity today?
The teams now warming up at the Liberty:
Swansea City
Fabianski; Amat, Fernandez, Kingsley; Naughton, Ki, Cork, Fer, Taylor; Sigurdsson; Llorente. Subs: Nordfeldt, Rangel, Van der Hoorn, Fulton, Britton, Montero, Barrow.
Chelsea
Courtois; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry (c), Azpilicueta; Kante Matic; Willian, Oscar, Hazard; Diego Costa. Subs: Begovic, David Luiz, Alonso, Fabregas, Moses, Pedro, Batshuayi.
Referee: Andre Marriner (West Midlands)
New boy Fernando Llorente starts up front for Swansea today. He had a poor scoring record in La Liga last season, but maybe this move will reenergize him?
On the Chelsea side, no room for Sideshow Bob in the starting XI. They're just about unchanged this season. And why not - they're been predictably effective, if boring.
Good morning, Bob. I'm back from running a couple of errands. Great to join you.
Fred says that there is a match tomorrow between the Black Cats and the Toffees. Moyes Boyz vs Moyes former Boyz. Fred says oh boy.
Morning, MUR - great to have you board for this one. How has your weekend been?
I'm sure that Fred will be glued to that one - not sure I'll be able to tear myself away from office hours.
Chelsea start the match in second place and go top if they win by three or more goals. The Swans are one point out of the drop zone , but go mid table with a win. It's still early doors. The Swans have lost three in a row since their opening day win at Turf Moor
It's been a good weekend. Thanks for asking. How has the weekend been for you and Kate,
Teams on the pitch now - it's amazing how much pomp and circumstance there is in just a regular league match now, with teams coming out to music, ref plucking the match-ball from a podium, teams lining up for an anthem and so on. I can remember the day when the teams would just wander out of the tunnel and run around a bit before kick-off.
They're off from the Liberty Stadium in what looks like Spy vs Spy from Mad Magazine.
Very nice. We attended the 45th birthday party of a good friend here last night. Good food, bevvies and friends around. Nice craic.
I agree. I like it better that way.
Swansea playing in their traditional all white and Chelsea in their evil black and day-goo yellow number.
Sounds great and much more exciting in comparison to mine. I was home alone with two teens and two pets.
Diego Costa already in the wars. Amat with a barge welcoming him to the match.
Jordi Amat introduces himself to Costa, presumably in Spanish
Swansea playing three at the back - a bit risky with this Chelski side.
I will be teaching tomorrow , so I will have to record that match. I will also have to record Men in Blazers because it's on live at 5:30 PM EDT.
Lively start by the Swans - they won't be overawed in front of their home support.
The swans are surprisingly attacking early on in this battle of Italian managers
That's a new time for them. I rarely watch the Men live.
Willian tries one early doors and Flappy palms away rather unconvincingly. Corner.
Flappy pushes away a shot from Willian for a corner . It was straight at him. Chelsea get to a a low hard driven corner from Willian then it's cleared
I think it's a one time thing for the Blazaers
Leroy Fer is called for a foul on Ivanovic. I don't think that's a fer cop.
Chelski have a free kick chance now - Willian floats it in and it's cleared.
Matic heads well wide from Willian's free kick
Claudio Bravo is feeling better this morning as news trickles in from Serie A where Joe Hart has gifted Atalanta an equalizer in his debut for Torino. Oh dear.
Just a reminder that it's the return of the CL and EL this week.United have trip to Roptterdam with a noon kickoff. That's CDT.
It's Hart in mouth time for the Torino fans. Is that Atalanata, Georgia?
I read that Hart became the first English keeper to play in Serie A . With performances like that there may not be any more English keepers coming over for a good while.
Azpi wins a Chelsea corner. Willian to take?
No. It's Hazard, but the corner does anything but pose that as it's all but passed to Flappy, who easily catches it.
Azpi fouls Ki . That's what I call Breaking and Entering.
Free kick for the Swans now....
Siggy knocks it into an intriguing area but no one bothers to attack. Llorente must have had a pre-match paella.
A unusually poor free kick from Siggy is harmlessly out.
Oh - that is good. You're off to a cracking start, mate. Boom boom!
He hasn't had any service in all honesty. He hasn't kicked a ball yet, so he's probably had a Fer amount of time to scratch his. Sound about right?
Speaking of Ki, apparently he spent his summer holidays doing mandatory military service in South Korea. Make your own joke there.
GOAL !!!!! COSTA GIVES CHELSEA THE LEAD.
GOAL! Diego Costa strikes!
Really poor defending there by the Swans, who are desperately missing Ashley Williams. It fell to Oscar who fed Costa. Nice hard pass into the bottom corner for the finish.
0-1 Blues.
That's his third goal of the Premiership season - he seems back to his best. One goal behind Zlatan now and with Swansea in this kind of welcoming form, who knows how many he might get this afternoon.
Oh - Hazard nearly makes it two, but for the trailing leg of Flappy.
I t wa s a great finish by Costa , but poor defending by Swansea and keeping from Flappy. A long possession culminated in a cross from Ivanaovic being headed away poorly when Flappy should have dealt with it then Oscar passed to Costa, who tucked it away.
Flappy makes up for the error with a great close range save from Hazard. The corner was cleared.
Oscar has a shot deflect off of Colonel Ki for a corner.
The corner is cleared for another.
The next corner is headed wayward by Ivanovic as Chelsea keep possession.
Ashley Williams? He moved to the Toffees in the Summer and should be playing tomorrow.
Chelsea need to score two more without replay to go top , which would not be good news for you in the PPP.
Leroy Fer earns the first yellow card for a hack on Costa.
Leroy Fer is booked by Andy Mariner for a foul on Costa. Sound liker a Fer Cop?
Not good news at all for me. Nor anyone else. I don't think any of us picked Chelski for the title.
Nice one!
Weren't you a bit harsh on poor Ashley Williams? He's now a Toffee and will be playing tomorrow. At least give him a chance to mess up tomorrow after a good night's sleep.
I don't remember teeing off on Williams, but perhaps this summer when I was angry about Wales.
Chelski have had a relatively easy schedule: Hammers ,Hornets , Burnley, and the Swans. They play Liverpool Friday at SB. That's when we'll see if they're the real deal
Sorry mate. I thought you said something about him on the goal. My apologies.
Amat and Costa arguing presumably in Spanish.Andy Mariner sorts it out
No - I was saying that they're missing his services this year. I don't think that the Kingsley-Fernandez combo is quite up to it, hence their league position.
Clumsy tackles like that one on Hazard are unlikely to help Swansea's cause this afternoon.
Azpi has a go from an impossible angle and wins a corner.
That's a Fer point. The move doesn't make sense. I think the center is Amat and Fernandez. Those two two used to alternate as partners for Williams , but now are playing together. Perhaps that partnership will gel given time. I think the Swans will survive, but be in the lower half of the table this year
My opinion on Friday night footie: I don;t like it because it's devised by the evil television companies and another match that's played while I'm at work.
They may well survive, but only because other sides - e.g., Sunderland and Stoke - are worse.
a tough schedule for the Swans before the next international break.
I don't like it either. I can't imagine that it's good for people either. Friday night should be a night for people to relax after a long hard workweek and perhaps have a nice meal with the family at home.
Burnley too. Is Sparky still in charge at Stoke. He's a liability.
Decent break from Swansea there - maybe they can build on that?
Agreed mate. A good time to go the pub and have fun.I'm sure that's what the West End Boys prefer.
Oh - Siggy is inches away from equalizing.
Better from the Swans and not too far wide from Siggy
Diego Costa picks up his requisite yellow card for a nasty tackle back on Fer and some handbags after it.
Costa booked for a horrible tackle. That's a Fer Cop/
Fernandez goes into the book now for yet another one straight through the back of Costa.
Freddy Fernandez booked for presumable retaliation on Costa
Oh - how did Costa not score there - it was easier to score than miss!
Fernadez tackled Costa for a corner. After pinball in the box. it's out for a goal kick
Neil Taylor has been substituted. Was he injured or just replaced?
Llorente's first touch of the ball was really pathetic.
Two minutes of stoppage time.
Two minutes of stoppage time to come now....
It looks like Barrow came on for Neil Taylor. That's a moire attacking option. He's more of a winger than Neil Taylor.
Chelsea is one up at the half, one that they controlled.
Andre Marriner blows up for half-time and Chelsea are half-way toward preserving their perfect record this season.
The second half is underway
It's still a very slender lead for Bob in the PPP. Will the second half change that?
The two Robbies discussed Neil Taylor's behavior towards Frankie Guidolin after being subbed. Surely, there will be a consequence.
Oh - Chelsea back at it straight away.
Ivanovic plays Willian down the right. He cuts in and shoots just wide. Hazard nearly diverted it in.
And Diego Costa is back at it as well, buying Amat a yellow card.
Jordi Amat is booked for nasty elbow in the back of Costa.
Costa getting a slow handclap now as he lies prone.
Agreed. A horrible acting job. I'm sure he will face plenty of trips to the rumatologist in life after football.
An unusual football schedule next weekend. Your Whites have an early kickoff in the Welsh Capital where Garry Monk should get a hostile reception. It's not BEIN televised. The Tractor Boys vs the Villains will be at 10 AM. No early Prem match on Saturday, but a dreaded noon kickoff for my United at Vicarage Road on Sunday.
Another foul by Amat on Costa and a free kick from Willian is deflected straight to Flappy.
I thought Hazard put the ball in a great spot, but nobody made a run for an easy tap in.
Kyle Naughton shoots over from long range after a cross from Barrow was cut out.
Costa wins a corner off of Amat
An off the ball incident by Amat on Ivanovic and Conte is livid. It din't look too severe, but Amat is on thin ice.
The free kick from Oscar is headed away.
PENALTY SWANS AS COURTOIS TRIPS SIGGY IN THE BOX ON A BREAK THAT CAME OUT OF NOTHING. A BOOKING FOR COURTOIS.
GOAL!!! SIGGY TIES IT UP FROM THE SPOT. DRILLED DOWN THE CENTER WITH COURTOIS FLOPPING TO THE SIDE.
I'm back with my sandwich to see Siggy drill home a well deserved penalty. I couldn't be happier!
1-1!
I agree with Marriner's decision to give a yellow card there. I don't like goalkeepers getting sent off and penalties awarded at the same time.
GOAL! Swansea have turned this one around!!
Oh my stars!
GOAL !!!!! SWANSEA FANS GOING BONKERS AS LEROY FER GIVES THE SWANS A 2-1 LEAD.
A terrible moment there for Gary Cahill who dawdled on the ball and had his pocket picked by Leroy Fer. Fer just about beat Courtois.
Gary Cahill thought he was fouled, but a defender of his stature shouldn't have his pocket picked that easily just outside the box. Fer comically rolled the ball thought Corouis's legs as if they were wickets as it comically trickled over the line./
Definitely not a foul. Sam Allardyce will not be impressed. Embarassing for the England defender.
This one could really kick off now as Diego Costa goes over looking for a penalty.... or something. Marriner isn't impressed.
Great effort from Oscar - well saved by Flappy!
Great slide tackle by Flappy on Hazard then Costa flops under the challenge from Flappy, albeit a clumsy one.
Can Swansea survive the Chelsea onslaught for this last 25 minutes?
Then Willian is offside from the corner.
I have a latest score:
Guidolin 1 Taylor 0
Neil Taylor livid at being replaced by Barrow. Oscar had a free kick headed away then Fer played Barrow down the left. The Ganmbian went on a great run then his cross led to the trip by Courtois. Sounds like a great substitution and makes Taylor look like an idiot. He did nothing prior to being replaced.
Chelsea need someone to bring a little calm to proceedings here. David Luiz, perhaps? ;-)
The honeymoon is over for Conte. It seems as if he doesn't like trips to Wales.
I agree with you - as angry as you might be at being substituted, you should be professional about it and not sulk like a little child.
Thanks for the reminder. Chelsea have their own Sideshow on the bench. I completely forgot. Will he come on for Cahill, whose pocket has been picked more than that by a shoplifter.
Agreed. Especially if your replacement does an excellent job after you not doing squat. More activity after being subbed than 41 playing minutes combined.
Conte hates Wales so much now he'll never eat a leek again.
It appears that you're safe at the top of the PPP charts.
Just a mention will make him nauseated.
A right rearguard action now for the Swans. This would be a sensational win for them.
a free kick from Willian is headed away then Oscar has a weak volley easily blocked.
A reality check for Conte.
Costa called for afoul after a challenge on Kyle Naughton . Great defending
Fabregas on for Matic now - good attacking move. And Willian off as well - he's not happy about it. Victor Moses on.
Fab on for Matic. An attacking switch. Victor Moses on for Willan in an attempt to part the White Sea.
If you look at my comment at 12:09 you will see a brief summary of the unusual schedule next weekend.
Oscar drags a long range effort well wide. The Swans will take those kinds of efforts.
I'm currently grossing out Katie with my liverwurst sandwich. She's not a fan.
Oscar heads over off a cross from Hazard.
I'm with Kate on that. Sorry mate, but enjoy.
GOAL! Fabulous acrobatic goal from Costa!!!
2-2!
GOAL !!!!DESMOND. IVANOVIC WENT ON A RUN AND HIS CROSS DEFLECTED TO COSTA, WHO SCORED WITH A CLOSE RANGE VOLLEY.
It's deserved after a sustained spell of pressure.
LOL! I will. I picked up a liking for liverwurst when living in Germany as a wee kiddie.
That is an odd schedule for next weekend. I don't like it at all. If I have to get up early for a Leeds match, they could at least broadcast the bugger.
Better defending from Cahill, the Chelsea pocket General.
I agree. At least my United is being broadcast. You might as well enjoy some well deserved extra kip next Saturday.
Oh - Costa, on a hat-trick, blasts into Flappy's arms!
Great save by Flappy from Costa as it's pushed away for a corner.
He's on a hat-trick and has seven career goals vs the Swans, more than against any other team.
Five minutes left of this one. A draw would still be a decent result for the Swans.
A mad scramble in the box - this one will not quit!
Two great Chelsea tackles in the box after great hold up play and a great ball played by Llorente.
A really open last few minutes now with both sides going for the win.
agreed. This may go down to the final whistle.
Batshuiyi coming on now.
Siggy off and Angel Spangel Rangel Wangel coming on for him.
Angel Rangel on for Siggy. Sounds like Guuidolin is settling for a draw.Batsuyai on for Oscar as it appears Conte is going for the win in the final roll of the dice for both Italian managers
Hazard picks up a yellow card there for a cynical tug back on Barrow as he was streaking toward goal.
Barrow goes on a speedy run on a break and is brought down by Hazard, who is booked. Are you watching, Neil?
Oh - more chances for Chelsea. Fab has a shot blocked and then Moses blasts over. Phew!
Kingsley blocks from Fab after a run down the left by Hazard and pass to Costa that was laid off. A fab block. Four minutes of stoppage time.
Four minutes of stoppage time to come now. Plenty of time for some more chances.
A comical attempt to control the ball by Hazard
John Terry into the book now - this match has cost Chelski a lot of cards. It may come back to haunt them with suspensions down the line.
JT booked for a foul on Fer, who picked Fab's pocket. It's a Fer Cop
Ki goes over in the box but Marriner is not buying it.
Conte should warn his players about shoplifters. They've been victimized twice.
That's a Ki call on the Colonel.
Hazard trips Naughton in the final minute of stoppage time
Fer trods on Terry now and JT is not doing well now.
The same score as Villa vs Forest
It finishes Desmond in an exciting contest as Chelsea lose their perfect record.
Full-time and Desmond at the Liberty.
Diego Costa is left shaking his head and screaming at the end. Chelsea won't be happy with a draw. And they could easily have lost that one. Great point for the Swans.
That's it for me. It was great chatting have a great week.
CHEERS!
Best match of the weekend. And it was a good weekend of matches. That's why we love the Prem.
Cheerio, mate - thanks for joining me today!
