U.S. v. T&T Live!

Here's hoping that the US will take that last step toward the Hex tonight against T&T in my old stomping grounds in Jax, FL. It's a busy night at the Cottage, so I'll likely be in and out, but I thought I'd start off the thread and see who jumped on in my stead. Enjoy the match!

Good evening, Bob. I have jumped on your stead. Both teams have already clinched a place in the hex.

Blogger gooner71 said...

Thanks BDB, hope to have you around for some of the action.

So yes, the USA have cemented their advance into the hex with a drubbing of the hapless St. Vincintators.

Here's what I'm looking for tonight. I would like someone to step into the slot vacated by Jermaine Jones and claim it once and for all. I also want to see the continuation of the rise of Pulisic, Morris, and Wood, relegating Zardes and Altidore as specialists when we need fast on the wing, and punishingly big up top. I don't expect anyone to replace Brooks, but I would like to see Steve Birmbaum make a strong showing so that Omar Gonzales is just a painful memory after Brooks recovers.

And what the hell. Lets crush the Trinis!

Here's another question: What are the odds that one of the starting XI will take a knee in support of the SF QB's demonstration of support for Black Lives Matter? I think zero, but would like to be pleasantly proved wrong. Alexi did a little segment why he would not if he was in the starting XI and fair enough, he acknowledged his hetero-white privilege in his answer.

Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good evening Gooner. How have you been? It's great to have your USMNT expertise to call on. I second that. After crushing St. Vinny it's now time to crush St. Trinny

8:07 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I don't think so either, but it would be great to see. I never liked Lexi.

8:08 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A shock in CONMEBOL as Venezuela lead the Argies five minutes before half time. while Uruguay is three up vs Paraguay at the half. Chile being held 0-0 by Bolivia about 35 minutes in

8:11 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

It's Tim back in goal, Cameron on the right, Birmbaum and Gonzakez paired in the center, Fabian Johnson on the left. Bedoya, and Pulisic wide and Bradley and Kljestan supporting Altidore up top. C'mon USA!!!

8:14 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

They're off from Jax

8:15 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Did you watch the Chile Paraguay game on the weekend? I was surprised at how sluggish Copa America winners were. Paraguay used to be a surprise package. Maybe they are again?

8:16 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Klejstan has flopped for the U.S. in the past. Timmy the ex Toffee is playing because the U.S. have already qualified for the Hex. Otherwise, it sounds like the lineup Jurgen will use in the Hex. Sound about right?

8:17 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I did not watch the CONMEBOL matches , but I think Chile were held to a draw. They must be sluggish if they're being held at home by Bolivia. Paraguay may be back after a horrid qualifying campaign last time out

Hi David. We've been welll. Melanie's been really busy with her degree, never more so than now when she is working in a school here 8 hours a day in addition to the 2 courses this semester.

Other than Kenwen Jones, are there any Trinis of note? I can't see that there are.

8:19 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Evening, lads - I'm jumping in for a second. My mistake - I thought tonight's match was another must-win and that qualification was still dangling.

8:20 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Uruguay now four up vs Paraguay

8:20 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I agree about Kljestan. He's all fancy haircut and non-dangerous areas of the pitch, though his whining at the ref is exceptional. He disgraced himself terribly in a recent DCU vs Pizza Rats encounter and probably should have picked up a second ticket for constantly rabbiting in the ref's earhole.

8:21 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Hello Steve. We are doing well. Elizabeth is up taking care of her mom, who has cancer.I wish your Melanie well. Our Melanie will be away , starting her degree next year

8:22 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Is this really the US home kit now - it looks like an away kit. Don't like it at all. Bring back the Where's Waldo look.

8:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good evening Bob. Great to have you on board

8:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great save by the keeper from Pulisic . Bradley takes a corner that , like Roon's corners, is headed away

8:24 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree, Steve. Other than Kenwyne and perhaps , Shaz, I am not familiar with any of the Trinnies

8:25 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Sp mcu for the surprise package. The only thing of note is that the Trinis botched a golden chance. And just now Puliisic forced a good save just now.

8:25 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I'm watching on a link because Jacquelyn is watching AGT on one telly and recording Bachelor in Paradise on the other telly. Not one of my prouder moments.

8:27 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Ooof! Give Elizabeth my best. I know her situation only too well. Godspeed to everyone.

8:27 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It looks as if the US is making heavy weather of this one. It's Jones and 10 others for the Tobagoners for sure.

8:27 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Trinny with a free kick conceded by Bradley and like Roon's , well out of play

8:28 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

T&T opting for the tiny goalkeeper tonight - haven't seen such a diminutive keeper since Jorge Ramos.

8:29 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Thanks Steve. We appreciate it. I will send the message along

8:29 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed about the keeper and Jozy confirms what Steve stated by blasting over.

8:30 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Since both teams are through, this may be more like a pre season friendly with players trying to avoid being injured ahead of their club matches,

8:31 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Now my worst fears about Kljestan are true as he blasts over , unmarked from about eight yards out

8:33 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I noticed that there were surprises in UEFA qualifying today.

8:33 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Who's more of a statue - Jozy or Kenwynne?

8:34 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I hope this picks up a lot very soon. Otherwise, you may be right David. No-one taking charge at the moment for either side.

8:34 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

What surprises, mate? I didn't see the results.

8:34 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

One positive about this link is that there are not any annoying announcers. I feel privileged.

8:35 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The exciting Magyars were held 0-0 in the Faroes,. France held 0-0 in Belarus, and the Euro Champs lost 2-0 to the Swiss . I don't think they were banking on that

8:37 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Also, Bulgaria on by the odd goal in a seven goal thriller vs Luxembourg. I expected a more one sided match. Kososvo with a creditable debut, drawing 1-1 in Helsinki.

8:38 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Nice one, MUR - boom boom!

8:38 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I'm off, lads - will be back soon.

8:40 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think that was a penalty, but the ref is giving a free kick just outside the box after that horrible trip on Cameron . Number 17 should have been booked.

8:41 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Cheers Bob. Enjoy.

8:41 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The free kick from Bradley was headed away then Pulisic won the ball with a great tackle, but the U.S. gave the ball away

8:42 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I am really enjoying watching Pulisic. He reminds me of a England Schoolboys international I once saw where one kid just roasted the opposition and finished up with 4 goals. The announcer said, "remember the name, Joe Cole." Hope Pulisic has a better and more injury free career than the one Cole had. But when Cole was 17, whew!

8:45 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A real upset in the making as Venezuela goes two up vs the Argies early in the second half.

8:45 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Joe Cole was an exciting player to watch early in his career , but he never fulfilled his potential. Agreed that we hope Pulisic has a better career.

8:46 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Bollocks! 2 misses. Wood's a whiff, Pulisic's off the post and away.

8:47 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Better from Jozy as he put forth a great ball in the box. Pulsic missed it and Bobby Wood had his shot come off the woodwork with a wide open goal from a few yards out. The U.S. should have taken the lead.

8:47 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A Trinny corner is headed away

8:48 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Since there are not any announcers, I can tell you That Jurgen is loudly screaming, sounding royally pissed.

8:49 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Has Kljestan completed a successful forward pass yet?

8:50 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Argies pull one back in Caracas, now trailing 2-1.

8:50 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I doubt it. I think he's been a passenger , with about three touches if the ball if even that

8:51 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A Trinny player was through, but shot into the side netting. Toffee Timmy had it covered.

8:53 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Brazis have taken the lead vs the Coffee Makers in the second minute

8:54 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Uru have defeated Para 4-0 in the Guay Derby. That's a final

8:55 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Another Trinny shot , but well wide from the D. Then another is well wide. They are starting to control the match

8:57 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

1-0. It had to be Kljestan, didn't it? Sigh.

8:59 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!!!! HOW ABOUT THAT . THE WORST PLAYER ON THE PITCH GIVES THE U.S. THE LEAD. IT STARTED WITH A THROW AND SOME NICE PASSING, BUT A POOR CLEARANCE WENT STRAIGHT TO KLEJSTAN, WHO TAPPED IN FROM A FEW YARDS OUT

8:59 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed. He's the American Lallana?

9:00 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Pulisic has a pass cleared for a corner on the counter.

9:01 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bradley takes it short, then Phillip , the keeper, catches a cross as the offside flag is raised.

9:01 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

That's an apt comparison. All talent, not a heart to split among the two of 'em.

9:02 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It's 1-0 to the U.S. at the half thanks to a gift wrapped goal

9:02 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I guess one of them can be the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz.

9:04 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

You'll have to steal that title from Landycakes. He's a Tin Man for all time. How about Humperdink for Sasha? Same crumbling under pressure. But if this is his renaissance, I won't grumble.

9:19 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I had to pick up Melanie from marching band practice and am a tad tardy for the second half . Did I miss anything?

9:20 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Sounds good to me. Hopefully, that is the case.

9:21 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Argies have come from two down to make it Desmond in Caracas in the final minutes.,

9:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great save by Phillip from Jozy then the whistle is blown

9:24 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A book for Omar Cutchings for a foul on Bobby Wood in the build up to that shot.

9:24 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great block by Timmy from Kenwyne

9:26 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It finishes Desmond in Caracas. The Argies will be disappointed, but they were two down early in the second half

9:28 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Coffee Makers tie it up in the Maracana.

9:28 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

The Trinis are getting forward like they did in that period before our goal. Lots of half clearances from us which keep the pressure on us. We need a second to clam things down a bit

9:28 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!!! JOZY PUTS THE U.S. TWO UP

9:31 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great run down the left by the Fab Johnson. He passed to Jozy , who turned a defnder then shot past Phillip making him feel more like Phillip Morris

9:32 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Yes. That was class! Nice run and pass from Johnson to Altidore who sold his defender the wrong way and slotted it home. 2-0 and just at the right time.

9:33 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jordan Morris on for Bobby Wood then A Trinny player booked for a poor challenge on Jozy

9:33 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Nice! I'm just back in time to see Jozy slide in to get his brace. US well in charge now. 3-0!

9:34 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bradley plays the free kick out wide to Pulisic , who passes the ball into the box and

GOAL!!!! JOZY SLIDES IN AT THE FAR POST TO SCORES HIS SECOND IN A MATTER OF MINUTES TO PUT THE U.S. THREE UP

9:35 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

And Again! Another great run behind the defense from Pulisic and a good finish from Jozy past John Phillips Looosah!

9:35 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Welcome back, mate and well deserved after punishing the Trinnies for some cynical play.

9:36 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Ale Bedoya replaced by Paul Arriola.

9:37 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Phillip tips over a long range effort from Besler.

9:38 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Never heard of this Arriola bloke.

9:38 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Decent hit by Sasha. Palmed away uncertainly by the Trini midget.

9:39 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

T&T throwing in the towel then - Kenwynne off.

9:39 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bradley plays it short and Phillip is forced into another save. The Trinnies will want the ref to blow up now

9:39 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Morris could add some gloss to this by making a serious stab at inclusion in the squad. I did not like to see him dropped for the Copa this summer. He was red-hot and Jūrgen stopped his momentum by dropping him.

9:40 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A sign that the Trinnies have conceded this match. I will be surprised if they qualify from the Hex. Really surprised.

9:40 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Paul Arriola. We capped him last spring to make sure he wasn't capped by El Tri. As if. He plays his club ball at Tijuana.

9:42 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Another final score in CONMEBOL. Chile have been held 0-0 at home by Bolivia. Is that an upset?

9:42 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

4-0! Morris adds another on the rebound.

9:43 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!! BESLER WITH A TAP IN OFF A PASS FROM JOZY TO PUT THE U.S. FOUR UP. THIS ONE IS THREATENING TO GET OUT OF HAND,.

9:44 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

OOOOH. Arriola follows in just like Bedoya does and grabs a 4th!

9:44 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Sorry - that was the youngster Arriola. Thanks for the info, mate.

That one made my nipples go all a-tingly. Boom Boom!

9:44 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The final roll of das dice for Jurgen and Klejstan is replaced by a youngster

9:45 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Besler is at home figuring out which way to diaper his newborn. That's nipple boy, Arriola.

9:45 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Lovely, Bob. Thanks for the correction. Arriola started the move , so he finished it.

9:46 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It's 1-1 at the half at the Maracana between the Brazis and the Coffee Makers. Decaf for the home team and Strange Brew with Cream for the visitors.

9:47 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great description . Thanks , Steve.

9:48 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Besler's kiddo is all about the Arriola.

9:50 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Timmy Toffee with a decent close range save

9:51 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Off again...this one is in hand. Evening, gents!

9:51 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

BOOM BOOM, STEVE

9:51 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Cheers, Bob. enjoy the rest of the week and I look forward to chatting with you for the Manc version of El Classico

9:53 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

That was a better save than I thought. He was unsighted and up to now he's just been back there telling blades of grass to F**K-OFF!!!

9:53 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Yet he wonders why the fans in the Gladys Street End were heckling him during his final matches at Goodison

9:59 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Too bad Bob naffed ioff. He would appreciate how at 4-0, and at 85 minutes, we have Morris, Altidore, and Pulisic on the pitch. Still a very attacking formation.

9:59 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed. I guess he left given that this match was decided a while ago, but you make a great point.

10:03 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Jozy could have had the hat-trick and chose the flash option instead of wellying it

10:03 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It's over and the U.S. thrash Trinny 4-0 . They win the group thanks to the victory

10:04 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

St. Vinny end with a -29 goal difference. No surprise there.

10:05 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Alright. 4-0, a very good result and we top the group. Best to all of you Goldsteins. Cheerio boyo.

10:05 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Now off to the Azteca . It's 0-0 about three minutes in between El Tri and the loathsome Hondurans.

10:06 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Cheers , Steve. The same to you, Melanie, and Eric. It was great chatting with you.
