Slovakia v. England Live!
Morning, guys. A very happy international break weekend to you. I hope you'll join me this afternoon for England's rematch with Slovakia only a couple of months after the 0-0 draw at France 2016. England will want to get off to a winning start under new manager Sam Allardyce. Unfortunately, Fox in their infinite wisdom have decided to broadcast matches involving the likes of Lithuania and Armenia but not our match. So, ESPN3 is the only venue to watch this one on, as far as I can tell. Join me from noon onward to watch on-line.

Welcome, boys - I'm here to follow the England match this afternoon on ESPN3. It’s the dawn of the Sam Allardyce era, but is there much else different when it comes to the England football team apart from the man who will inevitably face the intense criticism when it all falls apart in the quarter final defeat in Russia a little under two years from now?
I am watching the cricket right now before the match. Is there a pre game ?
Only one manger in England's history has lost his first match... Alf Ramsey. Whatever happened to him?
Make sure you watch that Class of 92 programs
There are four of them
Let me know if coverage has started
Afternoon, UWS - the coverage starts at 11:50am, so very little pre-match show.
Good morning UWS. A quarterfinal appearance would be an improvement over the previous two tournaments. Do you know when England last won a knockout match? I do and it's been a while, so expectations may be low for Fat Sam.
Good morning, Bob. Great to join you well rested and ready to go.
Our match is on the Spanish language ESPN, but I don't think any of us have the Latin package. Is that comic relief for the Spanish speaking viewers?
I have the Enlish version
Afternoon, MUR - great to have you guys on board. Here are the teams gathering in the tunnel now:
Slovakia: Kozacik; Pekarik, Skrtel, Ducia, Hubocan; Mak, Gregus, Pecovsky, Hamsik, Svento; Duris.
Subs: Novota, Dubravka, Gyomber, Kubik, Kiss, Povazanec, Pich, Sylvester, Pauschek, Stetina.
England: Hart; Walker, Cahill, Stones, Rose; Henderson, Dier; Sterling, Rooney, Lallana; Kane.
Subs: Heaton, McCarthy, Smalling, Walcott, Sturridge, Jagielka, Clyne, Drinkwater, Vardy, Alli, Antonio.
I'm watching coverage on Watch ESPN from Bratislava instead of watching on ESPN Deportes.
Me too. Only the Spanish version is being televised, which is an odd one because I don't think the Latin American viewers will be interested in this match
I am watching on my apple tv
Lovely jubbly - coverage has started and looks marvelous.
The announcer said it should be a fine match with a lot of bite. A hint to the tactics that Fat Sam will use?
I have the match on ESPN Deportes. I have an international Xfinity package because of my Sumo watching. I'll be alert to whether or not I'm in synch with you lot.
England in all red
Slovakia are wearing all white today, meaning England are in red with blue socks. Joe Hart is in a Manchester City-like blue.
Agreed. It looks like a perfect evening for a Football match at 7 PM local time.I agree with the announcer that Slovakia away will be England's toughest qualifying match even though the Jocks will make it tough due to the rivalry
Welcome, Gooner - great to have you on board this afternoon. How's the Deportes coverage?
Oof! Joe Hart and Adam Lalala in the starting XI? Piltdown, you're encouraging a vote of no-confidence before a ball's been hoofed.
Teams doing out of tunnel by it is behind because the anthems are being played on radio
Anthems now....
Good afternoon Bob and Steve. Will England leave red faced? What does Fat same see in Joe Hart that Pep did not? Why the Citeh look alike kit ? The England national anthem is being played and my volume just went out.
Sorry for the typing
On iPad
Not happy with the line-up at all, Gooner. Rooney captaining the side, Hart in goal due to Forster's injury, Henderson in holding role alongside Dier, Lallana. Kane starting up front despite not having scored any goals yet for Spurs.
But I've got to stay hopeful - it's the beginning of a new campaign.
We are the Slovakian anthem length behind
Jeezus - the Slovakian anthem is a right peasant dirge, int it?
ESPND isn't bad yet but I may claw my hearing aids out if it doesn't go well today. Wearing the Bloody Butcher shirt today for luck!
radio just blacked out
LOL , Steve. So much hoofing that the Three Lions players will be able to log frequent flyer miles.
Getting haircut in kitchen
I'll be back
I agree. Not pleased with the lineup. That loss to Iceland was not very Nice.
Peter Drury and Andy Hinchcliffe on commentary duties on ESPN3 today.
And we're away, England attacking to the right.
Short back and sides, you scruffy oik!
England fans in good voice from the off. Let's hope that continues.
Early corner earned by Lallana - let's make good use of it. Good ball in!
Danny Rose wins an early England corner Roon to take
Thank goodness Kane isn't taking it - Rooney to float it in.
The corner from Roon is headed away
England throw on the opposite side now....
Oh - good move worked there through Walker. Nice.
Fat Sam's lads are attacking from the off. A change from the previous regime.
Nice to see the International Space Centre allowed the hosts to position their TV cameras on it. I've already confused Lalala and Henderson twice
A surprise inclusion to the squad as Alex McCarthy is the third choice keeper. Remember him? A long road from ER
Rooney picked out Sterling out wide right but he couldn't control it.
LOL, Gooner. You're probably not the first and not the last to do that.
I only want Kane to take corners for S***s from now on.
Rose and Pekaric clash - seemed 50/50 to me but it's a free kick now.
A clumsy foul by Danny Rose. Did he play for LUFC or Leeds Rhinos in the past?
Definitely gonna be some eyestrain from the unusual camera angles today.
Andy Hinchcliffe doesn't think it will be easy for Slovakia to score from set pieces against England. Did he watch the match in Nice in June? What an idiot!
Cahill heads away the free kick then Sterling wins a free kick for England deep in his own half.
Not very nice, mate
Nice sense of directness from Sterling so far.
Your old mate, Alex McCarthy is third choice keeper. Are you surprised? I wonder which team he plays for.
Nice observation, mate
Rooney lunges in on Hamsik there and might have picked up an early yellow card.
So far it looks like the same old England. The teams drew 0-0 in June and I could see the same result today
Joe Hart will face Hamsek in Serie A due to his loan to Torino. He will be the first ever English keeper to play in Serie A.
I could see that too, mate. I wouldn't be happy but it would be a useful point.
That's assuming he plays for Torino.
He's on the books at Soton now, but definitely not first choice.
I am surprised to see him in the squad.
Somehow, I think he will, but they didn't even qualify for Europe. Interesting that none of the big clubs were interested in him. A sign that Pep is not the only one unimpressed by him.
Good stuff from Rose there - earns a corner.
Danny Rose wins a corner off of Mak Truck. Roon to take,
That short corner routine won't please UWS. Neither will that aimless ball out of play by Roon.
Bugger. Taken short then Roon puts in an atrocious cross.
IS Uws still getting his haircut like Fat Sam?
Now it's a free kick for Slovakia.
Stones gives away a cheap free kick after trying to be fancy at the back.
That was interesting. Dier sent in a hopeful long cross and the keeper dropped it. Sterling did well to challenge him.
Kane heads away the free kick then Mak Truck concedes possession and an England counter results in nothing but a throw at the opposite end of the pitch
England are playing very much as they did in France this summer, with some interesting, exciting moments, mostly down the flank without a lot of final product.
Argh! Rooney at the near post should have at least made contact!
Is Melanie translating the commentary for the Gooner? What interest would the Spanish speaking viewers have in this match?
Bloody hell - Lallana got to the by-line and fizzed over a great ball but Kane completely missed it!
Agreed. Decent cross from Kyle Walker, but a last ditch clearance cut out a good chance for the Three Lions.
So far. the impeding MRI that Messi is undergoing today is the focus of the commentator' interest over here on ESPND
Sounds familiar . A regular occurrence at SFL.
Whistles going up from the Slovakian crowd about the England possession.
That sounds more eventful than this match. Nearly two hours without a goal between these two teams.
I'm back
Sam old Sam old England
Sigh
Skrtel booked for an elbow on Harry Kane. I think we've seen this before from this defender. A typical booking.
England free kick now...come on!
Welcome back. Is the haircut similar to Fat Sam's?
Rooney with a hopeless chip into the penalty area that's cleared out by Skrtel for a corner.
During the Class of 92 shows the co- manager was complaining about going backwards and sideways
It's easy going backwards!!! Go forward!!
Why isn't he the England manager
Keeper came to claim that Rooney corner.
The free kick from Roon is headed out by Skrtel and the keeper easily catches the corner from Roon. ARRGH!
Kane looks like Bambi on Ice out there - get him off!
Probably trying to copy the latest England style.I had a feeling they would play this way. Sigh
Fat Sam will need an ice pick after England were frozen out in Nice.
Useless by Lallana against for teammate, Skrtel.
Nil-nil, both sides playing shite, and it's time for the wave?
Uh oh - the wave has gone up around the ground. That's what the fans think of it.
Doing the wave in Bratislava. That's more exciting than this match
I'm so fed up
Now two hours without a goal between these two. That's what crap teams these are.
England have done nothing
At least you had a haircut, mate!
Where is Dele Alii ? Injured?
Corner to Slovakia now....
Slovakia with one goal in five hours against British sides.
No shot on goal yet
Bloody useless
Alli's on the bench. I'd have him on at half time.
The corner is a waste as a foul is called.
That's what I was thinking. He could be a useful option off the bench as could be Antonio.
Sterling can't beat a man
It wasn't good defending
The cut was too close to the defender
Basics
What. Is. The. Point. Of. LALALA? What gym-master looked at him and said" there's a boy with the heart to be a professional footballer?"
Oh - England nearly contrived to give away a goal there. Bloody hell!
Where do you start to turn this one around?
Would we be better off watching Kazakhstan vs Poland or Azaerbaijan vs San Marino.? Just a thought
Sam wont change anything
They are not losing
A point will be good to not getting relegated!!!!
Finally some good interplay between Kane and Sterling
Oh - and just as I type that, Kane got in and it ran on to Sterling who shot just wide. Nearly.
Sterling takes an age to shoot then puts it wide
"England to avoid relegation," UWS?
Better from England . A decent chance for Sterling
Finally three players go forward with the ball
Shot blocked from Kane
Wish he was able!
None of Rooney's set pieces have threatened.
Kane has a shot come off Skrtel for a corner. Taken by Roon and headed away
Well , Sam's speciality is not being relegated!!!!
A point is useful only because England is in a really weak group and this is their most difficult match. Afterwards, they should have a set of really easy matches.
How did Skrtel get away with that push on Kane?
Modern day players can't cross!!!!!!
Agreed, but some of the teams in this group are weaker than some of the sides he's managed.
Pathetic!!!!!!!!!
But for injuries to Butland and Forster , Fat Sam would have been left deciding whom to start in goal.
A minute of stoppage time.
Another atrocious cross by Sterling
I think that describes both teams
One minute of stoppage time - blow up, ref!
Skrtel down injured off a challenge with Danny Rose. Not so rosy.
My captcha Turing test won't let me comment. Can it be turned off?
And that is half-time. Not a vintage performance, if we're being kind. Definitely need some changes in the second half.
0-0
The ref finally ends a bloody useless first half . It's 0-0 between two pathetic teams.
England with a Shite load of passes and 63% possession , which doesn't mean shite.
BTW, Bob and I have stepped into the kitchen for haircuts.
And we're back.
Some halftime scores:
In the other match in this group, Lithuania is surprisingly two up vs Slovenia. In the televised match, Denmark is one up vs Armenia. Azerbaijan is one up in San Marino. That's all they can do against the minnows? Poland two up in Kazakhstan.
Well done. I will love to see how those turned out.
Northern Ireland kick off just down the road from this match in Prague at 245 PM EDT.
Teams comimg out
Bet you there are no changes
Dahlgren boys, haircuts?
Not for many a year
The teams are heading out of the tunnel. A roasting or congratulations during Fat Sam's first halftime talk?
Sam old Sam old
No changes
I agree, mate. England will likely be as unchanged as Gooner and my hairstyles.
The second half is underway from Bratislava.
LOL lads. Funny , but true
Ooh
Let's put a right sided player who can't cross on the left so he can't cross from that side too
And England have an early corner....
Based on Fat Sam's expression, it looks like the hairdryer treatment and if so ,rightly so.
Hate the camera views for corners
Maybe it's my eyesight that has adjusted but the camera angle seems closer now.
Roon's corners are into front poste but they are just lofted in
England with a corner won by Kyle Walker after a free kick from Roon. The corner from Roon is headed away then a cross from Sterling is headed out for a cornmer
Hair-dryer? Piltdown, get out the leaf-blower!
Walker can't cross
Sigh
Hinchcliffe is right for once. The way that Roon is floating the corners in means that there is no pace at all and all the pace has to be generated by the attacking players. Why doesn't he swing it in with some whip and curl?
Stones commits a foul on the next corner from Roon and Slovakia get a free kick
BOOM BOOM, Gooner.
Toothless
Bring on Vardy
That describes the corner I took when playing for AYA teams. Why not put me in the England lineup?
Easily a 2nd yellow for Skirtle, no? Why not?
The wag on the Guardian blog posted the Talking Heads clip "Same as It Ever Was" at half-time.
Ref could have second carded the ex Pool player
Agreed. Add Kane to the list of players that can't cross.
Roon hitting too long
Did get a head on it but still too hard
Blimey - how many chances does Skrtel get before he picks up his second yellow?
He should have . That was a horrible challenge.
Only difference so far is that Henderson seems to have been given license to get forward more. Not enough, Piltdown
Henderson heads straight to the keeper off the free kick from Roon.
Agreed, Gooner. That's what I'm observing.
I was watching some YouTube of my United v Bobs
Out and out attacking with pace
League Cup tie in Leeds title year
It seems like my link is about five seconds behind everyone else and Mak Truck wins a Slovak corner on a rare attack
Overdue, really. What a tool.
Kaza have tied it up v Poland
Desmond
The corner was headed away by Kane . Looked like the ones taken by Roon.
Coming up on the hour mark now. Surely some changes. I'd have Vardy and Alli on for sure.
He is off now!!!!!!
Now England will struggle against ten
Sam will say ...it's always difficult to break down ten men
WOW!!! That was quick against a supposedly talented Polish side.
Skrtel has finally gone and done it! He's off - Slovakia down to ten men now. What a chance for England!
Changes now Sam!!
About bloody time. He can only get so many chances. All against Kane. A lucky break for England. No arguement from player or manager. They knew.
The stamp was awful
Another hopeless cross!!!!!!!!
I don't see Slovakia scoring with ten men, so why not attack . If England score , I don;'t see a way back for the ten men.
I estimate I'm 75-90 seconds ahead on ESPND so I won't comment on incidents, but more generally chime in when I see you lot commenting,
Also, Skrtel will be suspended for the next qualifier, which may benefit England.
Dele Alli to come on
For who ?
Thanks, Gooner!
The ten men win a corner and same result as the Roon corners.
Cheers, Gooner. I didn't realize that you are that far ahead.
I hate the P word!!!!!
Skrtel expulsado. Is a translation required.
Roon show much wants to be Scholes
He ain't
Hendo off for Dele
Oh - that was a big chance for Lallana - blazed over. That should be his last kick. But it's Hendo off for Alli. Progressive move for Sam.
