Monday Night Footie!
Monday Night Footie is back and we've got a cracker in store. Chelsea had a wretched season under Jose Mourinho and then Guus Hiddink, finishing a distant tenth from the top, whereas West Ham, their neighbors to the east, had a marvelous, swaggering season. What will these two sides look like this season - we'll soon find out. Join me for all the action next!

I'm joining the match fifteen minutes in after rushing home from work. Looking forward to this one.
The teams on display at the Bridge this afternoon:
Chelsea: Courtois; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta; Kante; Willian, Matic, Oscar, Hazard; Costa. Subs: Begovic, Aina, Fabregas, Loftus-Cheek, Moses, Pedro, Batshuayi.
West Ham: Adrian; Antonio, Collins, Reid, Masuaku; Nordtveit, Noble, Kouyate; Ayew, Carroll, Valencia. Subs: Randolph, Byram, Ogbonna, Obiang, Oxford, Tore, Payet.
Referee: Anthony Taylor
Big decision for Referee Taylor there - Oscar went down after a slight brush off from Reid. Taylor waved on, despite Oscar's theatrics, or perhaps because of them.
And Diego Costa got booked for his remonstrations.
Now it's James Collins into the book for a foul on Costa. This one is more chippy than a proper football match.
West Ham have acquitted themselves fairly well but they lack creativity with Payet on the bench and Lanzini injured. They’re quite ponderous in the final third.
More conversations for Referee Taylor now - Masuaku and Costa not getting along now.
Not a lot of football on display here.
First decent bit of skill there - from Hazard, skipping past a couple and then trying a curler that went just past the post.
Andre Ayew has a problem now - he may have to go off.
The Turkish international Tore coming on to replace Ayew. Still no sign of Payet.
Oscar turns and plays the ball straight out of play. Early season rustiness?
A Chelsea corner on the right. It leads to a scramble and West Ham get it clear. But back it comes. The second attack ends with Masuaku conceding a free-kick on the right.
Reid bundles Costa over and Chelski have a nice free kick chance now.
Decent hit from a short-haired Willian. Tipped over by Adrian.
The corner comes to nothing and Taylor blows for half-time.
Not a lot to report on there - precious few chances created by either side, really.
0-0
I'm back just in time to see Eden Hazard rifle in a penalty for Chelski.
1-0!
Antonio gave away the penalty who bundled Azpi over in the box.
Hammers fans are blowing bubbles now. They'll need to be to get their side back in this one. West Ham look a shadow of the side they were last season.
There was a vigorous discussion on yesterday's 606 about whether Chelsea would be in the Top Four this season. Today, they look exactly as I thought they would - professional, efficient, compact, really boring. They'll certainly make the top four.
Oscar breaks behind Masuaku on the right and wins a corner for Chelsea. It comes to nothing. But a second Chelsea goal is on the way.
Nordtveit wallops a 60-yard pass straight out of play. The Chelsea fans jeer.
Willian drives right and shoots low into the corner. Just tipped away by Adrian.
Looks like Payet is just being prepared.
Oh - Costa went in sharpish on Adrian and really should have got a second yellow and be off. Taylor has let him off the hook. Lucky boy!
Payet has come on for Nordveit and not before time. I don't understand this new policy of resting players who were involved in a tournament in bloody June!
Chelski have another free kick chance now - Oscar hammers it into the wall.
Chelski players crowding Anthony Taylor now - should be booked. Free kick West Ham.
Payet to take and...straight into the wall. Rubbish.
GOAL! West Ham equalize after a contentious corner. James Collins with a rifle shot into the corner.
1-1!
Now then - what will the response from both of these sides be. I always fancied a draw in this one, but I thought it might be 0-0.
Just over ten minutes and change to go in this absorbing second half.
Chelsea make their first change, Willian replaced by Pedro.
Kante lunges in on Payet and should have got another card. Chelski could easily be down to 9 men.
Another change for Conte. Oscar off and Batshuiyi on.
Also Victor Moses on for Hazard. All change then.
Moses’s intriguing inswinger from the left is headed away from the lurking Batshuayi by Reid, a crucial intervention. Pedro volleys wide from the right as the ball drops from the sky.
GOAL! And of course, it's Diego Costa, who should have been sent off ages ago who pops up with the winner (sigh)....
Oh - Payet had a chance to equalize there - Courtois with a decent save.
There of the four minutes of stoppage time remaining.
Costa goes down again - should be simulation and yet another booking. Ridiculous!
Now it's Pedro with a booking. So Anthony Taylor can find his yellow cards but not his red ones.
Furious scenes in the Chelski box now - more great work from Courtois.
Full-time: And Chelski have eked out a 2-1 win here in their home opener, proving that they're likely to be my least favorite team this season. A truly repulsive performance, especially from their talismanic striker.
2-1 Blues - yuck!
That's it for me today. Over and out.
