The Annual Curtain Raiser
Morning, chaps - I've had a refreshing shower to wash away the disappointment of this morning's shocking Leeds loss and I'm ready for the curtain raiser of the 2016/2017 Premier League season. It should be a fascinating encounter. Everyone is wondering how Leicester will get on this season as they attempt to defend their improbable title win. The pre-season form hasn't been encouraging and Kante will be a big loss. And what about United. New manager, new striker and new look? United fans were sick to death of Louis Van Gaal's cautious approach - how will they take to The Special One. A lot will be revealed today - join me for a cuppa and a natter, won't you?

Good morning, Bob. I'm sorry about the loss, but excited to join you.
I'm watching the tail end of Bremen vs Chelsea on CBS Sports with Chelski leading 2-3 late on in Saxony.
United making Leicester wait - the Mourinho psychological games start already. It's a bloody friendly!
Morning, MUR - great to have you on board for today's match.
Here comes a song about some old bat.
I expect a close match. The Foxes had a really difficult schedule in the ICC tournament and find this match easy in comparison.
They're off from Wemberley.
I'm hoping for loads of goals.
Jose lost this fixture last year then was sacked . How abput this year?
Breaking news - Paul Pogba to have United medical after Juventus agreed to a £110 price. Cor! Are you pleased?
The second match at wemberley in 23 hours. Can you guess the one played yesterday and the result?
Yes. I am delighted. We should have never let him go, but he's the type of player that UWS and I have been waiting for United to sign
A great solo run by Vardy then Blind with a great tackle for a corner taken short.and United easily clear it away
I'm watching on gooner's link because there's a match BEIN shown on the telly in about twenty minutes.
But 110 mill?
Mik the , the first Armenian that will play in the Prem, is on the United bench. I wonder how he will fit in?
Into the side netting by Kung Fu Panda as United attempted to sucker punch the Foxes.
UWS is already grumbling on the text.
It's a hefty fee, but he's the type of player we need top be signing.
Really? We've shown more attacking intent then the entire last season combined.
Roon heads straight to the son of a famous United keeper off a cross from Luke Shaw. Great to see him back as we never truly replaced him last season
Did you see either match yesterday? Both were crackers.
It appears that Andy King is filling the spot vacated by Kante. New signing , Mendy , was disappointing in pre season
That was my thought, too. He'll fit the bill, but isn't the player that Kante is.
Kasper fumbled a shot from Hair Bear then gathered the rebound while former United trainee, Danny Simpson is down, but back up.
King or Mendy? Mendy was supposed to, but King may surprise us given the opportunity
Great defending by Fuchs on Lingard/
Phew - close for Okazaki!
OH!!!!!! A typical Foxes counter as Vardy sets up Okozaki, whose long range effort is deflected for a corner.
Oh - off the bar!
A curling corner from Albrighton and a header from Huth is headed off the line by Zlatan, of all people/
Okazaki is causing loads of problems for the Uinted backfour.
Off the bar. The Foxes have started the better team. So much for them struggling this season. I expect them to finish between sixth and eighth
I think this is the first match that Vardy and Okozaki have played together. That may explain their pre season results.
Stupid hand ball by Lingard to end a promising United attack. He should know better. It's a hand ball, Jose.
Great tackle by Bailly on Vardy there.
Great tackle by Bailly on Vardy on a Foxes counter that results in a corner.
I think so, too. Vardy and Okazaki are an excellent combo.
The corner from Albrighton is headed away and Fuchs volleys well wide.
Ross makes his Villa debut today for RDM's Villa as does a 21 year old Italian keeper.Otherwise, very similar to the side that went down.
Lots of Leicester pressure now.
Roon coughs up the ball yet again. Jose will not be impressed.
The match between the former FA Cup semi hosts is underway from Hillsborough
I'm interested in this fixture. Many pundits expect Villa to go straight back up. Not a Big Club have better odds, IMHO. Sorry mate.
GOAL! Wonderful run and goal from Lindy.
Wow!
1-0 United!
A curling free kick from Roon is straight to Kasper then GOAL!!!!
UNITED IMMEDIATELY GET THE BALL BACK AND LINGARD GOES ON A SOLO RUN PAST FOUR FOXES PLAYERS THEN SCORES WITH A GREAT FINISH PAST THE ON RUSHING KASPER.
OF course you saw that coming, right?
Late by Ashley Westwood on Kieran Lee. Just a lecture from the ref.
Absolutely. What else would I expect, LOL?
Mahrez wins a corner off of Blind
Andy King heads wide at the near post from the corner.
Ross Wallace wins a corner for Not a Big Club
Danny Simpson picks up the first yellow of the match.
Villa struggle to clear the corner from Ross Wallace then are bailed out by the ref's whistle.
Danny Simpson is booked for a late challenge against his former club.
Villa , under the cosh, clear for another corner.
I wonder if Villa will struggle in the Championship.
Villa head away, but the Not Big Club keep possession and Forstieri heads just wide./
The pundits are picking Villa for a playoff spot , but I'm thinking mid table. I would pick them to struggle, but the talent of RDM should see them finish mid table.
The first half winding down now - are you pleased with things so far?
You will not be pleased to hear this, but I expect Not a Big Club to be in or around the promotion spots.
To be honest, other then the goal, they haven't been much different from United of last season.
Steven Fletcher volleys wide for Not a Big Club.
United are one up at the half against the defending champions in what has been a fairly even half on a warm Wmeberley day
A nasty clash of heads between Tommy Elphick of Villa and the bleeding Steven Fletcher of Not a Big Club. The stretcher was out but both players up. Fletcher us off to the sideline for further treatment. This is the Championship
Not a Happy debut for Steven Fletcher as he's replaced by Gary Hooper.
You know, I kind of felt that, too. Zlatan hasn't made much of an impression.
Sam Hutchinson, the former Chelsea trainee, is called for an off the ball barge on Bacuna. The free from Villa comes to naught. Villa attack again and a cross from Bacuna is headed by Ayew straight to Westwood.
Agreed. Abrahamson needs to do better.
The new Villa era starts with RDM as manager and Kevin Bond as his assistant. Considering the turmoil at the club, I thought the new owners did well to hire that duo.
Ahmed Musa is on for Okozaki. The new signing from Lokomotiv Moscow scored twice against Barca in mid week. Damari Gray is on for Albrighton as the second half is underway
Carrick called for a foul on Vardy. That looked a fair tackle.
Ross Walllace is down after an awkward fall in a challenge with Gestede.
BLOODY HELL!!!! SAME OLD UNITED! HAIR BEAR COUGHED UP THE BALL. HIS BACK PASS WENT TO VARDY AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO ASK HIM TWICE AS HE ROUNDED DE GEA AND SLOTTED INTO THE BACK OF THE NET. IT'S 1-1
Forestieri had a free kick come off the Villa wall for a corner. There was head tennis off the corner that was well gathered by Villa's young Italian keeper.
Andy King booked for a rash foul on Lingard.
Suicidal stuff from Hair Bear - I don't know why he's in the side.
Great start from Moussa - he's been a handful.
England manager , Fat Sam , and his assistant , Sammy Lee are in attendance. They should bve pleased with both scorers.
He was a handful against Barca as well. He will somehow need to be fitted into the Foxes lineup.
Into five minutes of stoppage time at Hillsborough where Ross Wallace has been booked for diving for Not a Big Club. That is to be expected from this side.
Bailly fouls Moussa near the corner flag.
Zlatan easily heads away the free kick from Damari Gray
Herrera on for Carrick now.
The changes are coming up since this is a friendly . Herrera on for Carrick
Mendy coming on to replace King - they're still trying to find a good replacement for Kante.
Hernandez also on for Danny Simpson, who had been booked.
And Mata on for goalscorer Lingard. Whew!
Craig Gardener booked for a rugby tackle for Villa and the free kick is easily saved. It's 0-0 at the half in which Not a Big Club were the better side.
All like for like swaps.
agreed about Hair Bear. I'm sure Jose has impressed upon the United players that poor form could result in transfers before the window closes. Hair Bear may be among the first to go.
Applause in the 66th minute for the heroes of'66.
Gray with a super run but he ran into trouble.
That's a long 50 years with no success for England.
And Martial makes way for Rashford - Kung Fu Panda is not happy about that change.
Rashford on for Kung Fu Panda and Rojo for Luke Shaw. Both like for like.
Bailly bowls Vardy over and gets a yellow for his trouble.
Bailly booked for a rash foul on Vardy
I'm not sure why. Kung Fu Panda did very little and he will quickly find out that Jose does not tolerate his nonsense and will not hesitate to deal him to another club.
Vardy booked for a reckless foul on Mata . Tackling is not his forte.
Rooney has looked lost again today - he's the biggest question mark for Mou to solve.
Agreed about Martial.
United take it short LVG style and just pass it around harmlessly.
Rashford goes on a run and wins a corner off of Drinkwater
A complete waste as Bailly is called for a foul off the corner from Roon.
Agreed, mate. Jose will need to figure out to use Roon because that brings up one of my pet peeeves. Why does a player have it in his contract that he has to be in the first team. Where is the incentive to fight for your place.
The second half is underway from Hillsborugh and Not a Big Club nearly score from the off as a close range volley is well saved by the young Italian keeper.
Schlupp on for Fuchs now.
Schlupp on for Fuchs, which is an attacking switch. IS Claudio going for it?
Do we go on to extra time and the pens here?
OH!!!! A long throw from Luis Hernandez is headed on and Moussa heads over with free header from close range
GOAL! Well, he's done nowt up until now but big Zlatan rises to nod home what might be a winning goal.
GOAL !!!ZLATAN HEADS UNITED INTO A 2-1 LEAD.
Never mind about that extra time and pens, then.
A collector's item as Valencia went on a great run and put in a great cross. when did we last say that? Also, Wes Morgan rarely ever out jumped, but was by Zlatan and a well placed header gives United a late lead.
The Foxes win a corner that is headed away by Zlatan
Correct, mate. If it is tied then there is not extra time . It goes straight to penalties.
Now it's Schneiderlin, who I would always prefer to Hair Bear, on for Rooney, who has been pants.
Schneiderlin is on for Roon as Jose aims to protect a late lead.
Agreed. Roon has been atrocious
And Leonardo Ulloa is on for a late cameo - why not?
Villa nearly take the lead. Not a Big Club failed to deal with a corner and a shot from Ashley Westwood was inc hes wide that would not have been saved by Kieran Westwood.
Four minutes of stoppage time.
Leicester have a last minute chance at a corner now. Kasper is coming up for it.
It's one of those time waster subs that UWS hates so much. Mata off now - wasn't he a sub?
Vardy wins a Foxes corner. Kasper up for the corner. Drinkwater has a shot blocked.
Yes he was. The sub is on for the sub as Mik is on for a really late cameo. Mata not pleased.
Leicester want a handball - nothing doing.
The Foxes win a late corner as we are past the four minutes of stoppage time awarded./
Zlatan streaks away with it but that's it.....
United have won the first silverware of the season. You must be delighted!
That's it for me, mate. I'm off to get ready for a party.
Zlatan counters off the Foxes corner , but the final whistle blows. United start the Jose era with silverware as United defeat the Foxes 2-1. Both managers embrace.
Cheers mate. Enjoy the party. it was great chatting with you.
