The RNC's Final Night
Tonight, Americans will see an avowed neo-fascist candidate accept the nomination of a major political party for the first time in US history. Trump's buffoonish character often obscures this; however, no one should have any illusions about this sad and frightening reality for our country.
The Donald should be up around 10 pm when the networks join in for primetime coverage; that is, unless they cock up the schedule, as they've already done twice this week. Join me for all the GOP shenanigans tonight here on the LOB.

Welcome, chaps. I'm bunkering in for the duration of tonight's convention coverage. Kate and I just got back from a walk to see the end of PayPal founder Peter Thiel's speech, during which he was applauded for the statement that he is "proud to be gay." Wow - this is a different Republican Party.
Now it's the CEO of Colony Capital, an old buddy of the Donald. It's interesting that the GOP is running out a number of businessmen tonight to build up to Trump at 10pm.
The Repubs are boogeying again, this time to some sax-fueled tune with a "Make America Great Again" refrain to it. That'll never be Top of the Pops.
We've got a putrid video narrated by Jon Voight that is a hagiography of Donald Trump right now.
Now it's Ivanka Trump introducing her daddy, who has continually suggested that, if she weren't his father, he'd be dating her. Ewwwww....
Finally, it's Donald. Really tepid applause greets.
A protestor is being turfed out of the auditorium now.
Frightening neo-fascist rhetoric now about immigration and terrorism, word-for-word from the speeches of Francisco Franco or Benito Mussolini.
Sorry I missed the action, but I got an excellent summary from the Bill Maher Show.
