226 Comments:
Good morning mate. The coffee finished brewing and I'm here to join you. The first match is on CNBC and the second one is on NBCSN.
Morning, MUR - I'm about to grab my brekkies and will return in a second.
The teams gathering now in the tunnel at the Hawthorns:
West Brom: Foster; Dawson, McAuley, Evans, Galloway; Fletcher, Yacob, Phillips, Field, McClean; Rondon.
Subs: Olsson, Gardner, Lambert, Berahino, Leko, Wilson, Rose.
Middlesbrough: Guzan; Nsue, Ayala, Gibson, Barragan; Forshaw, Clayton; Stuani, Ramirez, Downing, Negredo.
Subs: Konstantopoulos, Bernardo, Rhodes, Fischer, Reach, de Sart, Nugent.
Referee: Pitbull Anthony Taylor.
A pre-match meal is vital to a great performance.
The Baggies vs the Teesiders has kicked off from the Hawthorns.
BUGGER! The dreaded Ian Darke is announcing
Tony pulis has given a full debut to eighteen year old Sam Field
A quick start for West Brom, who pick up a free kick early doors. Ayala is booked.
Ayala is booked for a foul on Galloway, on loan from the Toffees.
Guzan punches away the free kick
Matty Phillips had a shot blocked after Gaston Ramirez gifted possession then the Teesiders counter. James McLean wins the ball deep in the Baggies half, goes on a solo run ,and is tackled as he is about to shoot.
The Baggies win the first corner of the match
Matty Phillips volleys the corner into the ground then Jonny Evans heads just over.
Berahino is looking quite irritated on the bench - surely he's for the off in the next few days. Would you have him at United?
Stuani - the hero of last weekend's triumph over Sunderland - stole in there at the byline but the angle for the shot was prohibitive.
I don't see Jose signing him because I don't think he could get a game with us. Also, Jose would not tolerate his nonsense.
Fletch does well to find Galloway, who picks out McLean and his close range effort is blocked by Guzan for a corner.
A bit of a balls-up between Guzan and Ayala there. No shout from Big Brad?
Guzan may get booed due to his time with Villa.
I agree - he's more likely to end up at a middling to struggling Premiership side.
Not pleased that Ian is announcing. Isn't he employed by NBC?
I agree. I heard rumors that he may head to the Potters
Negredo sold McAuley a great dummy there but credit due to McAuley for getting back to tackle.
Negredo goes on a solo run down the left and is tackled by MacAuley as he was about to shoot.
Oh - Rondon should have done better with that headed chance. Glanced it wide.
Runned on heads well wide from a cross.
A throw in ensues after Nsue prevented a corner.
A Baggies throw is headed out by Ayala for a corner.
The Baggies have another header. And Rondon glances another header well wide. His forehead seems to be a 50 pence piece this morning.
The corner was headed well wide by Runned On.
LOL. It seems that way based on his headers.
The Baggies are in the unusual position of dominating possession.
Jonny Evans heads out for a Boro corner off a long Boro possession.
Boro don't look anything like the team that showed up last weekend. But they have a corner.
The corner is cleared, but Boro get it back then Ben Foster is fouled.
I wonder if they're looking to do a smash and grab job.
It's hard to believe that we're headed into an international break.
This match is like a soft drink. It started fizzy and has gone flat
Great ball from Ramirez to Negredo but McAuley did well to nick it off him.
Gaston Ramirez did well to pick out Negredo, but it was a textbook tackle by MacAuley
I agree, mate. I'm still half asleep.
A nasty foul by MacAuley on Negredo near the corner flag and I'm surprised that he's escaped a booking.
Runned On heads out the free kick for a Boro corner.
Jonny Evans heads out the corner from Gaston Ramirez for another. Runned On heads away the next one.
Boro have only had six managers in the last twenty years. I guess that offsets the merry go round at ER.
"Runned On" seems an accurate nickname, mate.
Well, I think that Steve Gibson, the owner at Boro, is a little more level-headed than Massimo Cellino is.
West Brom appear to have a chant based on the reggae classic ‘Here Comes the Hotstepper."
Cheers. He seems to live up to his name. Agreed about Cellino.
I guess that is meant to praise their back four, which is the foundation of any pulis coached team
The youngster Galloway with a nice turn and run. The shot was a bit scuffed and Big Brad was able to gather.
Finally, a shot on target as the Baggies won the ball in midfield and Guzan makes a comfortable save from Galloway.
When Boro have the ball, every West Brom player bar Rondon is at least ten yards inside their own half.
That's typical of any Pulis team, even at home.
Galloway whips in a nice cross off a pass from Evans that's headed out for a corner.
Might have been a shout for a penalty for the tug on Rondon there. No appeals though.
Guzan flapped at that one but the Baggies couldn't capitalize on it.
The corner from McLean is headed out for another. The next corner is misjudged by Guzan and goes out for a goal kick
The replay shows that the Baggies should have had a penalty as Ben Gibson was pulling a shirt on the cross from Galloway
That's the half-time whistle. Not a classic, really. 0-0 at the interval.
It's 0-0 at the end of a dull half. The main talking point is that the Baggies should have had a penalty about a minute ago due to a shirt tug.
The second half is underway
A corner ensues as Gaston Ramirez had a shot blocked off a pass from Nsue
We're back on for the second half now. It's got to get better.
Sorry . A goal kick ensues , but Ramirez is booked for an earlier foul on Galloway
Welcome back. So far it has not.
Adam Clayton with a poor pass. A face from LUFC past
Barragan fouls Matty Phillips about thirty yards out
Yes, indeed. Adam played well for us for a few years. I was sorry to see him go. But that's the kind of club that we are these days.
Stuani heads away the free kick then the return cross by Sam Field is cleared.,
The sun is out, something to brighten the spirits of the crowd.
BEn Gibson heads out a cross from MAtty Phillips for a corner.
Oh - decent header from the corner there by Craig Dawson - just wide.
Craig Dawson heads just wide off the corner from Matty Phillips. That's better
Jonathan Lecko coming on for James McClean.
Seventeen year old Jonathan Leko is on for James McLean. Perhaps he will provide the spark this match depserately needs.
Claudio Yacoub picks up his requisite booking as Leko concedes a free kick.
Berahino, who took an age to get ready, is sitting next to the bench in his full kit. You're right - you don't need that nonsense.
Two thousand Boro fans at the Cottage in mid week. You and Kate threw quite a party on a school night.
Agreed. Jose won't put up with that and he would be too far down the depth chart.
Berahino doesn't look too happy sitting on the steps. He missed a penalty in the penalty shootout loss to Northants
We did indeed. Always the best when Boro come to town. ;-)
Young Leko is down just minutes after coming on.
LOL. It's not a party without the Geordies.
Berahino does look like he was put in timeout by Pulis. Your mate, Ian calls it the naughty step.
A poor cross from Nsue ensues in a goal kick,.
The substitute Lecko has already crocked himself.
So, Lecko will have to come off and Berahino comes on, to a mixed receptions from the Baggies faithful. Shame that it's come to this for a WBA academy product.
Seventeen year old Leko goes off injured just minutes after coming on and finally Berahino comes on. Can he score the match winner in the final twenty minutes.?
Can he turn those frowns upside down?
A great run from Barragan . He plays a one two with Negredo , who finds Stuani and he shoots straight at Ben Foster from a narrow angle.
Decent chance there from Boro - Ballaghan ran across the area and then laid off to Stuani who shot into Foster's hands.
More boos for Berahino from the WBA faithful. They're not happy with the kid.
Great block by Galloway from Nsue off a great pas from Stuani
Downing tries one from distance - well over.
And now Craig Gardner is Pulis' last change. The new academy kid Galloway is clapped off.
Craig Gardener on for Sam Field, who gets a much better reception, presumably for a better attitude and far more commitment.
Barragan talks himself into the book for giving it to the linesman. Really stupid.
The free kick from Craig Gardener is headed away by Gibson.
Barragan gets a yellow card for dissent.
I'm leaving to drop off Elizabeth at the grocery store. I will be back for the late one. Cheers, mate.
David Nugent coming on now.
Cheerio, mate- I'll catch you later.
Stoppage time now....
The referee Taylor mercifully blows his whistle. Not a classic, alright. 0-0 at the Hawthorns. Very disappointing.
Back after a refreshing shower for the late one.
I'm back for the late one. It should be far more entertaining than the earlier one
Otamendi heads high and wide off a corner from Silva
I'm back for the late one. City come into this one with a perfect record, albeit against inferior opposition such as Sunderland. West Ham should present more of a challenge. Sergio Aguero, more than any other Premiership play, has benefited from the new referee's directives. He's scored three in two matches, two of them from the penalty spot. And he's my GBB, so long may that continue.
Nolito wins another corner.
The team news out of the Etihad today:
Manchester City
Caballero; Zabaleta, Otamendi, Stones, Clichy; Fernandinho; De Bruyne, Silva, Nolito, Sterling; Aguero. Subs: Hart, Fernando, Nasri, Kolarov, Jesus Navas, Delph, Iheanacho.
West Ham United
Adrian; Reid, Collins, Ogbonna, Masuaku; Kouyate, Noble; Antonio, Tore, Valencia; Fletcher. Subs: Randolph, Lanzini, Obiang, Byram, Calleri, Burke, Oxford.
Referee: Andre Marriner (West Midlands)
Valencia clears the corner from Silva
Welcome back, mate - hope this one is better than the early one. That was dire.
Welcome back, mate
AGuero drags a long range effort wide.
Cheers. You did well to clean off the grime of that dire early match
Both teams faced Romania opposition in midweek. Citeh Hammered their opponents to go through while the Hammers were disappointingly eliminated.
Silva curls a shot wide then Fernandinho is booked for a rash foul on Valencia
Sterling has a shot come off of Winnie Reid for a corner.
The corner from De Bruyne is headed away
It hasn't been a good start for the Hammers, which is a shame as they're inaugurating their new stadium.
GOAL! Raheem Sterling gets going for the new season.
GOAL !!!! TOO EASY AS STERLING DISPATCHED A PASS FROM NOLITO. SILVA PLAYED A NICE GIVE AND GO THEN MADE A DIAGONAL RUN. HE FOUND NOLITO DOWN THE LEFT AND HIS PASS WAS EASILY TAPPED IN BY STERLING
Terrific team goal there - Silva threads a pass through to Nolito who crossed for Sterling to pass home. Easy.
1-0 Citeh!
One more goal and Citeh will be on top of the pops.
The Hammers come forward with their first attack of the match and Valencia has a shot blocked by Stones despite being more than a stone's throw from goal.
I think they're tied with Chelsea for top on gd and goals scored.
It looks as if Citeh's opponents are in for a hammering.
Stones gets away with one as Fletcher gets a toe to a pass inside the City area. Could be a lot of that this season.
Ashley Fletcher, a free transfer from Man Yoo, gets a long ball from Mark Noble, but shoots high and wide from a difficult angle as Stones was closing in.
Boom boom - I'm afraid so, mate. Works for me in the PPP.
Slaven did well to sign Ashley Fletcher for free as he was one of United's top players last season.
Cheers, mate. It appears that you will head into the break with a fair amount of points.
A corner from Tore is headed away then Mark Noble has a shot blocked.
The French defender Masuaku picks up an unnecessary yellow card.
Masuaku is booked for fouling De Bruyne on a Citeh break.,
Citeh players are getting a pep talk from their manager
More action in the first quarter of an hour of this match than the entire 90 minutes of the earlier match
Sterling wins a free kick
GOAL !!!FERNANDINHO , WITH A FREE HEADER HEADS CITEH TWO UP OFF A FREE KICK FROM DE BRUYNE.
GOAL! Terrific header by Fernandinho from a brilliant Ginger Winger cross.
2-0 Citeh are running rampant!
Citeh is now top of the pops , putting Bob top of the pops.
United are third as I predicted . I may pick up a few needed points for that
Citeh now perched on top of league.
Sterling wins another free kick. Will that result in another goal?
Another set piece chance - another great ball from the Ginger Winger. West Ham's defenders look as if they've taken the day off. Marriner let them off by blowing the whistle.
Aguero failed to make contact from another great free kick from De Bruyne . The Argie was flagged offside.
Did Slaven's lads get hammered last night?
Bob will be pleased that Lee Dixon is lobbying for Sam Byram to come on as a sub.
Nolito is fouled by Mickey Antonio just outside the box off a great pass from Silva
The free kick from De Bruyne is inches over.
Antonio dodged a bullet there with the high foot.
John Stones is down off a slide tackle on Masuaku. A but clumsy by the French defender, who is already on a yellow.
Stones is raked with studs on his knee and is off for treatment.
Kolorov warms up in case Stones can't continue.
Ashley Fletcher heads wide from a cross by Tore on a rare Hammers attack.
Great slide tackle by Otamendi on Antonio as Citeh were caught out. Corner to the Hammers. Willy punches away off the header from James Collins./
OH!!! Just wide from De Bruyne on a great team move. It's a corner as the goal kick was headed to Nolito , who found Silva down the left. Siva takes it short and Adrian was caught out by the cross from De Bruyne, but gets away with it.
Ginger Winger should have scored Citeh's third there. They're attacking for fun.
Talk about Joe Hart's future. All he can do at the present is fart in Pep's general direction for a Hart fart.
Nolito wins a corner off a possession that started in the Citeh box.
The fluency of City’s passing has been something else. It’s difficult to tell if West Ham have been bad, or that they just haven’t been allowed to be anything else by City.
The corner from Silva is headed away.
I agree - Hart has to hope that some lesser Prem side comes in for him. But his England career is surely over.
It's probably some of both. Even when the Hammers pressure the Citeh players on the ball, they can't get it back.
Fat Sam said that Hart will be in this England squad . I don't know if Hart will go to a lesser side that will not be able to afford his wages.A loan deal may be on in the next few days.
Sterling is running about three more kilometers a match this season than last season, representing the work rate required in a Pep side.
If Fat Sam is courageous, he'll drop him right away.
Two minutes of stoppage time./
Two minutes of stoppage time - Citeh will be happy to go in two goals to the good.
I agree. I don't think he's as brave as everyone makes him out to be. He could be a cowardly lion.
Citeh are two up at the half and it should be more.
A sight that will pleased to see Sam Byram on for Gokan Tore.
The second half is underway
I meant to say that Bob will be pleased to see Sam Byram on for the ineffective Tore.
Sterling wins a free kick off of Valencia.
Nolito scores off the free kick from De Bruyne , but it's disallowed because he was well offside. it deflected off of Winnie Reid,
Ashley Fletcher is booked for a foul on Willy. It was clumsy. Lee didn't think it was worthy of a booking.
Joe Hart was having a laugh about that with one of the assistants unless it was about something else.
Masuaku obstructs Sterling. That appears to be his final warning Mark Noble is called up with him. He's close to a second booking. Mark Noble talks himself into a booking.
Winnie Reid heads away the free kick from De Bruyne then Nolito has a shot come off the side netting.
Sterling is fouled by the Coyote.
Back for the second half with a turkey sandwich, courtesy of Kate. Looks like more one-way traffic from Citeh.
Masuaku is fouled by De Bruyne,
The free kick from Mark Noble is headed away then Citeh attack and Aguero curls a shot well wide.
Welcome back, mate. Well done, Kate and the Hammers players must be feeling like a bunch of turkeys.
You will be pleased to read that Sam Byram came on in place of the ineffective Tore. He moved to right back and Antonio moved into the position that was supposedly filled by Tore in the first half.
Aguero is flagged offside on a Citeh counter from a nice pass by Nolito, who won the ball deep in his own half. Such is the work rate of the Citeh players.
GOAL !!!! GAME ON AS ANTONIO HEADS IN AT THE FAR POST AFTER WILLY MISJUDGED A CROSS FROM MASUAKU
I wonder what Joe Hart must be thinking.
In the midst of the action, Kolorov came on for Stones.
Lanzini is on for Valencia. I'm surprised he didn't start as he played well last season. Arlo said he had a knee injury. That makes sense.
Antonio wins a corner after the Coyote won the ball in midfield and put him through down the left
The corner from Lanzini is headed away and a long range effort from Noble is over.
Aguero has a shot come off the side netting from a narrow angle.
That Antonio goal has the West Ham fans blowing bubbles and will set up the last twenty minutes nicely. I didn't see that one coming, honestly.
Sterling has a shot deflect off of Sam Byram, but it's easily saved by Adrain
Me either. I thought it was going to be a cricket score.
It's good to see Sam Byram getting a match for WH, even though I think this one will ultimately be a losing effort. I can see Citeh scoring one on the break and winning 3-1 or 4-1. Hope that Sergio scores one of them.
Nasri is on for Nolito. His career has declined the past few seasons.
Winnie Reid is down, probably feeling a lot like Harry Reid/.
